The paper describes the contribution of the famous Russian criminologist, Professor Valery Samuilovich Ustinov to the formation and development of Russian political criminology as a branch of criminological knowledge. His scientific works of different years related to the study of organized political crime, the ideas and proposals expressed in them, which influenced the formation and further development of Russian political criminology, are analyzed.
It is proved that the contribution of V. S. Ustinov to the development of domestic political criminology is associated not only with his studies of the phenomenon of political crime, but also with the scientific guidance of his students in such studies. The introduction of the political and criminological term “totalitarian crime” into scientific circulation led to the beginning of the formation of a new scientific direction of criminological totalitarianism in the post-Soviet space. He trained highly qualified specialists who are engaged in the development of domestic political criminology.
