The Article is an introductory exploration of loneliness experience of persons with mental disorders. The essential part of the essay are open interviews with persons which psychiatric diagnoses was defined as, paranoid schizophrenia. From the interviews result that the loneliness and isolation sense is universal attribute of persons which are struggling and coping with psychical disorders. The article also includes information pertinent to quantitative extent of the mental disorder problems in contemporary populations, terminology, and functions of a family and social environment not only in healing process but also individual daily life of disabled person. The Essay touch upon a problem of planned changes in the mental health care act and rights of patients. In the article also was included desirable policies worthy of implementation in the polish health service.

Wellbeing and older adults in primary health care in Poland.

The Polish health service is in need of improvement because of the increasing number of geriatric patients. Identifying the resources available to patients is important for ameliorating deficits. The goal of this research was to measure the health and wellbeing of seniors and to investigate to what extent health services meet their needs. Differences in access and scope of received services between patients from different localities (i.e villages, small towns and big cities) were analysed. Questionnaires (Satisfaction with Life Scale; VAS Numeric Pain Distress Scale) and a structured interview assessing the quality of healthcare were carried out in 2015 on a sample of 459 seniors. Each candidate gave consent for participation in the study. Statistica 12.5 software was used for analyses. The overall measure of satisfaction with life of the respondents (M=22.34 SD=5.78) was good. Inhabitants of small towns had a significantly lower sense of quality of life than seniors from big cities (Tukey HSD = 0.047, p<.05). Multimorbidity and polypharmacy were present to a limited extent. The issue of discrimination of older individuals by medical personnel affected a fifth of seniors living in villages, and one- third of those living in big cities. Geriatric patients did not have equal opportunities for access to medical services. State-provided geriatric care is insufficient and does not meet the real needs of patients. A holistic care approach and/or individualized care for older adults are often indicated but are only theoretical constructs in Poland. This inefficient system places the burden of caregiving on the family of the ageing patient. Anxiety among geriatric patients is growing regarding exclusion and lack of care.

Providing help to multicultural patients in the context of contemporary population migrations in Europe

Abstract Introduction. The population migration to the countries of the European Union (EU) of the conflict of war has grown substantially in recent years. According to the Office for Foreigners in Poland are staying 586 thousand foreigners. 279 refugees from Syria arrived in Poland in 2015. The economic development of Poland means that the number of foreigners settling in or crossing Poland and using the services of the Polish health service is constantly growing. Foreigners from outside Europe (the largest groups are Vietnamese – 8.8 thousand and Chinese – 6.2 thousand) were brought up in a different culture, but also people from European countries (the largest group are immigrants from Ukraine – 513 thousand) may differ from Poles perceive health and illness. Health Personnel may encounter difficulties in providing medical assistance and taking care of a culturally different patient. They may result from the language barrier, lack of knowledge about the differences in patients’ expectations or lack of skills in communication with the patient. The result may be improper assistance, violation of patients’ rights and avoiding the use of medical services. Aim. Presentation of the migration of population in EU countries, analysis of problems arising during the provision of assistance to culturally different patients and an indication of the possibility of developing cultural competences of paramedics, nurses and doctors through education in this area.

Prevalence of intestinal parasites in Afghan community on the example of patients treated in Ghazni Provincial Hospital.

This study concerns parasitological investigations estimating the prevalence of intestinal parasites in the Afghan community based on the example of patients, both children and adults, treated in the Ghazni Provincial Hospital, in the eastern part of the country. In total, 201 admitted patients with internal health problems were examined in the Afghan hospital in March 2012, including 164 children (1-17 years old) and 37 adults aged 18-80. Stool samples were tested in the Department of Epidemiology and Tropical Medicine at the Military Institute of Medicine in Gdynia, Poland using 3 parasitological methods: direct smear, decantation, flotation (light microscopy). Intestinal parasitic infections caused mainly by Ascaris lumbricoides, Giardia intestinalis and Hymenolepis nana were confirmed in 81/164 (49.4%) children examined. Among adults, 9/37 (24.3%) patients were infected with intestinal parasites including Ascaris lumbricoides and Giardia intestinalis. The Afghan community, living in poor sanitary conditions with limited access to health services, is one of the most infected populations in the world. The parasitological investigation focused on intestinal parasites performed by the Polish health service among the eastern Afghan inhabitants is still one of the few screening studies in this country.

Health care in Poland: from crisis to crisis.

During its first twenty years the Polish health service represented a neglected sector of government activity, as the development of heavy industry remained the predominant economic goal, with social policy regarded as a "nonproductive" sphere. When Edward Gierek came to power in 1970, the promise of reform extended throughout society to include health. However, despite a fundamental organizational reform, the health service has remained in a state of crisis, currently worsening as a result of mounting economic dislocation and political tension. Inadequate access to treatment, lack of continuity of care, poor quality of care, profound shortages of drugs and supplies, and the absence of preventive medicine are some of the manifestations of this crisis. Its main causes lie in the political weakness of the Ministry of Health, with consequent underfunding and the nonfulfillment of its plans. This situation is exacerbated by continuing organizational fragmentation, the neglect of primary care, the existence of conflicting aims in health policy, and the dominance of an ideology of clinical specialism.
