Evaluation of Strategic Planning Practices of Managers in Primary Education Institutions

Purpose. Rapid changes that have affected the world from past to present have caused educational institutions to change in order to keep up with the times and raise people for the future. It has become important for educational institutions to turn to new approaches in order to keep up with the changes taking place, to overcome the problems they will encounter and to chart their future. What strategic planning, one of these approaches, can do in educational institutions has become more and more important day by day. One of the important factors in the applicability of strategic planning in educational institutions is the closeness of school administration and teachers to this concept. In this study, the strategic planning practices of administrators and teachers in primary education institutions in the Mesarya rural area, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will be aimed and evaluated in order to shed light on the knowledge level of administrators and teachers in the country's educational institutions about strategic planning, whether they carry out these plans in their schools, and similar questions. Methodology. In this regard, in order to achieve the intended goal, semi-structured interview questions were prepared, and the collected data was finalized based on expert opinions and a pilot application. As a sample, 5 administrators and 5 teachers in the Meserya rural area of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus were selected, and content analysis was conducted based on the data collected through face-to-face interviews. Result. As a result of the research, it was underlined that the administrators and teachers mostly did not make strategic planning in the schools where they worked. In light of the results, it is recommended that administrators and teachers who lack knowledge on this subject receive in-service training. Conclusion. This study afforded us the opportunity to assess the perspectives, knowledge, and experiences of principals and teachers working in primary schools in the rural Mesarya region of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus regarding strategic planning in education.

Who is the next leader? Understanding women leadership development and succession planning in Saudi Arabian higher educational institutions

Leadership development and succession planning is a valuable strategy for closing the gender gap and providing an equal chance for males and females to be trained and involved in leadership roles. This strategy is an incredibly effective tool in higher education, where there is a significant disparity between male and female academic leaders. Despite its effectiveness, succession planning remained an overlooked component of the higher education system. Further research studies enhance our understanding of the current state of succession planning and the factors that affect the recruitment and selection of future academic leaders. Hence, this study aims to identify the current women’s leadership development and succession planning practices in public and private universities in Saudi Arabia. A qualitative study was conducted in a Saudi Arabian higher education setting. The interest in Saudi Arabia stems from the fact that succession planning is less likely to be practiced since gender discrimination is apparent when assigning leadership positions. Results indicate that top powers typically select leaders since succession planning is absent in Saudi Arabia’s higher education institutions. In this circumstance, networking and relationships play a significant role, as these institutions have no formalized succession planning process. In a highly gender-segregated society like Saudi Arabia, women are deprived of expanding their networks and showcasing capabilities to male decision-makers. The results of this study further identified the underlying components of the women’s leadership and succession planning process in the Saudi Arabian setting. This study contributes to leadership and succession planning knowledge and its implications, which may extend opportunities for practitioners, consultants, and policymakers to include women in higher education succession planning.

Strategic Financial Planning for Long-Term Sustainability in Madrasah Aliyah

This study investigates strategic financial planning for long-term sustainability in Madrasah Aliyah Siti Mariam Banjarmasin. The objective is to analyze the institution's financial challenges, explore strategies for enhancing financial sustainability, and propose recommendations for effective financial management. The research employs qualitative methods, including interviews and observations, to gather data on financial practices, challenges, and strategies within the institution. The findings reveal significant challenges in allocating financial resources effectively, including dependence on Government funding and limited investment in critical areas such as infrastructure and staff development. However, the study also identifies promising strategies for improving financial sustainability, such as diversifying revenue streams through fundraising events and partnerships, optimizing resource utilization, and implementing prudent financial management practices. Based on these findings, recommendations are proposed to prioritize investments in key areas, enhance revenue diversification efforts, and foster a culture of financial responsibility within the institution. Overall, the study contributes to understanding strategic financial planning in educational institutions and provides practical insights for enhancing long-term sustainability in Madrasah Aliyah Siti Mariam Banjarmasin.

Cost accounting and financial planning in healthcare institutions

Financial planning in healthcare institutions is becoming one of the most important areas of improving the management of this sphere today and is associated with the implementation of result-oriented budgeting. This article is devoted to topical issues that reveal the features of cost accounting and financial planning in healthcare institutions. The following methods were used in the study: analysis and synthesis, comparison, logical and systemic approaches. As a result of the study, this article presents information that, unlike many other institutions operating in the field of goods and services, medical institutions provide vital services that directly affect the health and well-being of citizens. Improving the economic efficiency of healthcare institutions is an urgent task today, which can be solved by organizing competent cost accounting. It is concluded that in the context of increasing medical costs and the possibility of unforeseen emergencies, reliable financial planning is of particular importance. The results of the study will be of interest to practicing specialists in the field of accounting of budgetary institutions, as well as the scientific community engaged in research in the field of healthcare. The results reflected in this article can be used in the educational process of higher educational institutions and in the practical work of accounting departments of modern organizations (including healthcare).

Quality of transition services provided to students with intellectual disabilities in Saudi Arabia

ABSTRACT This study assesses the quality of transition services provided to students with intellectual disabilities in Saudi Arabia from the perspective of their teachers. To achieve the study's objectives, a questionnaire was designed consisting of 30 items distributed across six dimensions related to transition: transition planning, family participation, student participation, transition-focused curricula, social institution cooperation, and transition assessment. The questionnaire was completed by 95 teachers of students with intellectual disabilities. The findings showed that the level of quality achieved in the transition services provided to students with intellectual disabilities was generally very high, as the dimensions were arranged in descending order as follows: transition-focused curricula, student participation, family participation, transition assessment, transition planning, and social institution cooperation. The results also indicated that there were no statistically significant differences attributed to the gender variable, the educational qualification variable, or the years of experience variable.

Towards Sustainable Environment in Somalia: The Role of Urbanisation and Energy Consumption

In this study, we investigated the role of the urban population and energy consumption on environmental degradation in Somalia. The study used the ARDL model and Granger causality test with time-series data from 1989 to 2021. The study found that increasing the urban population and domestic investment positively influenced environmental degradation in the short and long run. If the urban population increases, environmental damage will increase as they use more carbon dioxide emissions. Similarly, increasing domestic investment also contributes to environmental degradation. The study also found a causal effect between the urban population and domestic investment, while the urban population and energy consumption caused domestic investment. Moreover, there was a bidirectional causal effect between urbanization and energy consumption. Based on these results, policymakers are recommended to prioritize the development of urban planning and regulatory institutions that focus on environmental consciousness to guide sustainable urban growth. This should include measures to control pollution, preserve green spaces, and promote energy-efficient practices. Furthermore, targeted policies are needed to support domestic investment while ensuring it aligns with environmental preservation goals. Incentives for adopting eco-friendly industries and technologies can be explored to balance economic growth with environmental protection.

URBAN PLANNING AND THE URBANISATION PROCESS IN SERBIA IN THE EARLY 1950s

After suffering extensive damage caused by the Second World War, Serbia went through a reconstruction period. Between 1944 and the mid1950s, the government prioritised economic growth and worked on rebuilding and modernising the infrastructure, urban structures, and systems. Urban planning was seen as crucial in creating the conditions for state development. Societal and five-year plans, supported by urban plans, enabled accelerated economic progress and growth. The urban planning profession was institutionalised, with planning theory and practice introduced alongside social, economic, and political changes. Through an examination of the activities of the Urban Planning Institute of the People’s Republic of Serbia, established in 1946, this paper rethinks the link between urban planning and the social aspect of the planned economy in response to the rapid urbanisation and industrialisation of cities.

Anticipating the near future of teaching

The ways in which digital and networked higher education futures are imagined are rarely built around the values of universities, students and staff. Too often they are projected according to the values of ‘ed-tech’ industry and aligned policy discourses in which technological determinism, the interests of profit and the instrumentalisation of higher education are taken for granted as the inevitable drivers of change. This paper describes a methodology designed to enable universities to define and ‘own’ their own digital future, and to base it in the values of their communities. Such future visioning can be used as the basis for institutional strategy and planning, enabling us to advocate for resource and institutional policy change from a collectively-defined position. Equally importantly, it can be used to push back on other kinds of ‘inevitable’ futures described for us by agencies whose values are radically different. The paper describes the methods developed at the University of Edinburgh to achieve this future vision. It details the process we devised for defining a set of shared values and how we defined a preferred future for our own university. For the future of digital and networked education to be one that works in the interests of faculty and students, we argue that universities need to develop new, creative and values-based ways to envision and build it.

CMOS-Compatible Single-Gated Memtransistor Having 3-D Bulk Channel Embedded with Quantum Well Memory Nodes for Fast Training of Deep Neural Network

Recently, three-terminal synaptic devices having gate, source, and drain electrodes have been actively researched to compensate for the poor reliability of two-terminal synaptic devices such as resistive random access memory (ReRAM) and phase change random access memory (PCRAM)1. Two-terminal devices inherently suffer from read disturbance problems, where the stored resistance state changes gradually during the read process of the artificial neural network2. In addition, two-terminal devices essentially require selection devices for performing the write (program or erase) and read process, which is limited to commercialization because matching of the electrical characteristics between the selection device and the synaptic device was extremely difficult3. Moreover, the training speed of artificial neural networks would degrade due to the constant on/off ratio of conductance of two-terminal synaptic devices.To solve this problem, the memtransistors that can change the conductance range of the channel with gate bias have been reported. However, most of the reported memtransistors employed 2-D materials such as MoS2, WSe2, and SnS2 as a channel layer, which is a limitation for uniform large-area thin film growth4–6. In other words, the memtransistors with a 2-D channel layer do not have CMOS compatibility.In this study, for the first time, we designed a CMOS-compatible single-gated memtransistor having an indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (IGZO) channel embedded with quantum well memory nodes via Au nanoparticles. The quantum well memory nodes were obtained by precisely designing the diameter of Au nanoparticles in the IGZO 3-D bulk channel and SiO2 gate oxide interfaces. In addition, the quantum well memory nodes using Au nanoparticles were investigated by an energy band diagram obtained from ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) analysis of Au, IGZO, and Al source/drain electrodes. Thereby, the gate-tunable pinched hysteresis loops in the output curve of the designed memtransistor were achieved ranging from -30 to 30 V, which present channel conductance tuning by controlling the amplitude of gate bias. In addition, the gate-tunable synaptic plasticities (i.e., long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD)) were obtained by changing the amplitude of gate bias from 10.0 to 13.5 V at an incremental of 0.5 V, exhibiting exponential growth of maximum channel conductance depending on the amplitude of gate bias. Finally, we demonstrated the fast training of the hardware-based deep neural network simulation using the gate-tunable synaptic plasticity of the designed memtransistor. The mechanism of single-gated memtransistor having quantum well memory nodes via Au nanoparticles and its application will be presented in detail. Multi-Level Synaptic Device Having Perpendicular Magnetic-Tunnel-Junction Spin-Valve Sensor Via Skyrmion Generated By Nano-Scale Current Emitter

Recently, with the expansion of deep learning-based artificial intelligence into various fields, high integration density and recognition accuracy are essentially necessary for neuromorphic devices. In particular, skyrmion-based artificial synaptic devices have been actively researched due to complete linearity, topological stability, and small nanoscale size. This device can emulate the synaptic plasticity (i.e., long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD)) depending on the number of generated skyrmions. Magnetic skyrmions have been characterized by various methods such as perpendicular magnetic-tunnel-junction (p-MTJ) spin-valve structure, Hall bar measurements [3], and non-collinear magnetoresistance [4]: However, in the previous study using a p-MTJ spin-valve, they only measured the resistance of a single skyrmion and did not demonstrate synaptic behavior (i.e., multi-level characteristics) [5]. In addition, they essentially require an additional external magnetic field to generate skyrmions. Moreover, the reported device has low resistance margins, indicating it is extremely difficult to sense in bit-lines.In this study, for the first time, we introduced a novel multi-level synaptic device having a p-MTJ spin-valve sensor via skyrmion generated by a nano-scale current emitter. To generate skyrmion, we employed nano-scale oxygen vacancy filaments as a current emitter on the p-MTJ spin-valve sensor, and interface reducing W layer between the free layer and MgO layer, as shown in Fig.1(a). In addition, we performed a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) analysis to measure the PMA characteristics (i.e., squareness, saturation magnetization) of the SyAF layer and the free layer, as shown in Fig.1(b). Moreover, the generation of skyrmions depending on the thickness of the interface reducing W layer was investigated using VSM and magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) analyses, as shown in Fig.1(c-f). Furthermore, MOKE analysis was conducted to analyze the mechanism of skyrmion generation in the synaptic device having the p-MTJ spin-valve sensor patterned by 5μm diameter, as shown in Fig. 1(g). Finally, we have directly observed the generation of skyrmions using a nano-scale current emitter and demonstrated synaptic plasticity via the skyrmion-based synaptic device having the p-MTJ spin-valve sensor into a 300 nm diameter cell. In our presentation, we will review in detail the synaptic behavior and generation mechanism of the skyrmions. Activated Migration of Hydroxide Ion in Anolyte for Enhancing Performance of Scaled-up Non-Noble Catalysts in Pure Water-Fed Anion Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis

The continuous advancement in water electrolysis technologies has illuminated the potential of sustainable energy sources, particularly in the realm of green hydrogen production. Anion exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) stands out as a promising technology capable of theoretically yielding high-purity hydrogen. However, the commercialization of AEMWE faces challenges arising from the inherent discord between high performance and the elevated costs associated with noble metal catalysts, such as platinum and iridium. Moreover, prevalent studies often focus on a limited electrode area of less than 4 cm2, thereby restricting the exploitation of the high purity hydrogen production capabilities inherent in AEMWE. This research prioritizes the enhancement of performance through a meticulously crafted membrane-electrode assembly (MEA) employing a 25 cm2 Ni-frame caged NiMoO4 catalyst for cathode synthesis. The observed performance improvement is attributed to the augmented active site of the catalyst, consisting of NiMoO4 entrapped in the Ni substrate during the compression process of the electrode. Additionally, the increase in local pH at the interfacial between electrode and bulk electrolyte is facilitated by the capillary phenomenon resulting from the space between the Ni substrate and the NiMoO4 catalyst layer, leading to enhanced migration of the electrolyte containing hydroxide ions. Ultra-Low-Power Hybrid Synaptic Memristor via Simultaneous-Controlled Mechanism of Cations and Anions for Hyper-Scale Synaptic Cores

Recently, memristive devices such as phase change random access memory (PCRAM), resistive random access memory (ReRAM), and ferroelectric random access memory (FeRAM) have been actively researched to implement hyper-scale synaptic cores of various ANNs, i.e., deep neural networks (DNNs), spiking neural networks (SNNs), convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and binarized neural networks (BNNs). In particular, ReRAM is currently being highlighted as an artificial synaptic device because of its multilevel capability (> 11 bits)1, high switching speed (< 100 ps)2, high endurance (> 1012 cycles)3, high scalability, and complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) compatibility4. ReRAM is generally divided into two types: valence change memory (VCM) cells having oxygen vacancy filaments and electrochemical metallization (ECM) cells having conductive metal filaments. VCM cells have great retention but exhibit high switching current (~ 100 μA). In contrast, ECM cells exhibit relatively lower switching current (~10 uA) than VCM cells but have poor retention due to diffusion phenomena at high external temperatures5. Due to their high switching current and poor reliability, VCM and ECM cells have limitations in their application as synaptic devices in next-generation neuromorphic systems for energy consumption similar to that of the human brain (~20 W). In this study, for the first time, we developed a Ru-based ultra-low-power (< 1μA) hybrid synaptic memristor having a simultaneous-controlled mechanism of Ru cations and oxygen anions in a resistive switching layer. To elucidate the simultaneous-controlled mechanism of Ru cations and oxygen anions, we fabricated the VCM, ECM, and Ru-based hybrid memristor and performed x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) analysis depending on the resistance states (i.e., pristine, set, and reset). In addition, the mobility of mobile species in VCM, ECM, and Ru-based hybrid memristors was calculated indirectly via electrical properties (switching speed, operating voltage) and ToF-SIMS depth profiles, revealing the mechanism by which Ru-based hybrid memristor has low switching currents (< 1μA). Finally, the power consumption of active synaptic cores in the training and inference process of the designed DNN was evaluated for VCM, ECM, and Ru-based hybrid memristor. The simultaneous-controlled mechanism of Ru cations and oxygen anions of the Ru-based hybrid memristor and its application to DNN will be presented in detail. Consideration of water policies in the urban development plans of Delhi: A collaborative planning perspective

AbstractThis paper discusses collaborative planning principles as a means to improve water supply systems in the case of Delhi, India, through primary and secondary data analysis. The theory of collaborative planning is a well‐established concept applied to obtain effective policies in planning through the collaboration of actors in a shared space. We use this framework to discuss strengths, weaknesses, and scope for collaboration in the current urban development plan formulation process of the city. Some of the principles of collaborative planning we use include communication, collective decision‐making processes, and network power in a shared institutional environment. Our findings indicate a lack of consideration of water policies in the urban development plans. This underlines a major gap in the current process of plan formulation and provides evidence that the absence of collaboration between institutions in both sectors contributes to poor water supply for the population in Delhi. At the same time, it emphasizes the importance of collaborative practices between urban development and water institutions for better planning of water service provision in Indian cities.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion in Canadian colleges: examining definitions and unveiling perceptions

ABSTRACT Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) through strategic policy development has been at the forefront of institutional change, especially within the higher education sector. Canadian colleges have a large equity-seeking student population due to their open admission structure, but despite this, there are implicit biases and actions that impede students’ learning experience. Limited literature exists around how Canadian colleges have approached EDI policy development; thus, this paper initiates the unpacking of the evident policy – practice disconnect by asking: ‘How do colleges understand equity, diversity, and inclusion as articulated in policy documents?’ To address this, the study employs Critical Policy Analysis (CPA) as its main research method to deconstruct the narratives found within purposefully sampled documents including: 1) EDI policies and procedure; 2) institutional multi-year strategic plans; and 3) EDI-based plans and performance reports. Results indicate that colleges tend to be selective in their usage of EDI definitions. There is also a tendency to use ambiguous language around EDI, which makes it difficult to mobilise knowledge effectively and approach equity directly. Policies often fail to address the privileges held by certain positionalities, reinforcing existing power structures rather than challenging them. The significance of this research is in its contribution to enhancing a theoretical understanding of how knowledge supports policy, as well as informing the future development of constructive EDI policies in higher educational institutions.

CUPID: An efficient spatio-temporal data engine

In the IoT era, abundant spatio-temporal data is generated from various devices thanks to the prevalence of positioning techniques. Due to a lack of effective systems to manipulate the data, advanced scalable and efficient data management systems are necessary to support more and more urban applications.We propose Cupid, which is powered by scholars from Chongqing University and Guangzhou Urban Planning and Design Survey Research Institute, an efficient spatio-temporal Data engine. It extends JUST by introducing many functionalities to make it more applicable to deployment, and can efficiently manage large-scale spatio-temporal data. In Cupid, Apache HBase is utilized as the storage, GeoMesa serves as the spatio-temporal data indexing tool, and Apache Spark acts as the execution engine. We introduce many optimizations to ensure usability and reduce computational overhead. To make Cupid easy to use, we design and implement a SQL-like query language. Furthermore, to deploy the system as a PaaS while speeding up the execution, we leverage Apache Livy, a service that enables easy interaction with a Spark cluster over REST interfaces, together with gRPC to effectively collect results. Extensive experiments illustrate that Cupid outperforms other state-of-the-art spatio-temporal big data management systems in terms of efficiency and scalability.

Multispecialty resident physicians’ perceived preparedness for mass casualty events (MCEs) at an urban level I trauma center prior to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) era

PurposeCoronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has underscored how ill-prepared healthcare systems are for mass casualty events (MCEs,) especially as MCEs increase worldwide. We hypothesized that resident physicians (RPs) across multiple specialties are underprepared for MCE.MethodsTwo similar surveys were conducted to assess awareness of disaster plans (DPs) and individual’s roles and responsibilities therein. Initially, we surveyed exclusively trainees who are trauma team members (TTMs,) including physician assistants (PAs), residents from emergency medicine (EMRs) and general surgery (GSRs.) Subsequently, we surveyed multi-specialty RPs, except GSRs and EMRs, and their program directors/associate program directors (PDs/APDs.) RPs’ awareness, knowledge of, and confidence in hospital MCE response plans were assessed, and barriers encountered were queried. Data were consolidated except with respect to PDs/APDs, who were queried only in the second survey. The Fisher exact test for multiple-group comparisons was used. Alpha = 0.05.ResultsFor the first survey, the response rate was 74% (123/166), whereas 34% (129/380) responded to the second survey. Combined, the response rate was 46% (252/546.) Considering the RPs only for the two surveys combined, 103 (53%) respondents reported no awareness of institutional MCE response plans, 73% (n = 143) did not know/were unsure whether they were expected to contact someone, and 68% (n = 134) reported no formal MCE/disaster management (DM) training over the prior year. Additionally, the median response reported for level of knowledge of the MCE response plan among all RPs was “not at all,” with a significant difference observed between those aware of the plan and those who were not (p < 0.001). The median response reported for confidence level of RPs in MCE/DM training, excluding GSRs and EMRs (TTMs,) was “not at all,” with significant differences between surgical and non-surgical specialty RPs (p = 0.031), and between junior and senior RPs (p = 0.027). PDs/APDs (n = 12) reported “time” as the main barrier to implementation.ConclusionsRPs across all surveyed specialties reported low levels of knowledge and minimal training regarding MCE/DM. Incorporation of MCE/DM preparedness into residency training in all specialties involving direct patient care is essential. Curricular restructuring will be required for meaningful participation of RPs in MCEs.

Faculty’s Role in Creating a (Remote) Sense of Community Among Faculty and Facilitating Contexts of Care for Students

Objectives: This qualitative study employed a sensemaking approach to understand faculty members’ sensemaking of their roles during the COVID-19 pandemic and the emergency transition to remote teaching and learning. Methods: An email invitation to participate in the study was sent to faculty who taught in an MBA program during both the 2019–2020 and 2020–2021 academic school years. Data were collected through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with 14 faculty members who self-selected to participate in the study. Results: Two salient themes emerged from the research: &lt;em&gt;creating a (remote) sense of community among faculty&lt;/em&gt; and &lt;em&gt;facilitating contexts of care for students&lt;/em&gt;. These findings highlight the mission-central importance of faculty, the role of teaching, and the need to support faculty as they support students in higher education. Conclusions: As a result of the emergency transition to remote teaching and learning, faculty gained an increased awareness of the importance of human connection and interaction, which made them develop a whole-person approach both to colleagues and students. Implications: How well institutions plan for and support their faculty during times of crises will influence the institution’s capacity for student support and the personal impact of the crisis on faculty.

Shaping shores: An exploration of the interplay between law, spatial ontologies and the power to plan at Milnerton, Cape Town

The landscape of coastal planning is being transformed by the emergence of new scales of informal planning both alongside and between established statutory planning frameworks. As informal planning arrangements seldom operate within an institutional vacuum, they are frequently confronted by the path-dependent influence of pre-existing statutory planning institutions. However, there remains a marked dearth of knowledge surrounding the interplay between formal legal planning frameworks and informal planning arrangements at the coast. In response to this lacuna, the current paper endeavours to expand the existing comprehension of the influence of formal legal planning frameworks on informal planning processes at the coast by amalgamating legal geographical insights with the expanding discourse surrounding the function of actors' ontological understandings of space in structuring power relations and discursive interaction within planning processes. These insights are applied to a focussed case study of the operation of an informal planning process, the Milnerton Erosion Forum, at Milnerton, a coastal suburb of Cape Town, South Africa. The empirical findings presented in this article demonstrate the involvement of legal planning frameworks in constituting space and structuring power dynamics among actors at Milnerton, as well as the ways in which spatialised legal power is mobilised to influence socio-spatial decision-making within informal planning processes through actors’ ontological understandings and representations of places-to-be-planned. Through visibilisng the dialectical relationship between law, space and the power to plan at Milnerton, this article offers nuanced insights into the complex interplay between legal planning frameworks and informal planning practices at the coast.

Evaluation of the Protection of Historical Buildings in Universities Based on RCM-AHP-FCE

The accumulation of years imbues historical buildings within universities with a profound sense of heritage, evident not only in the temporal imprints within their internal spaces but also in the evolution of their external surroundings. This cultural legacy subtly enriches students’ spatial awareness of history and fosters a collective memory of campus context. Current scholarly inquiry into university historical buildings primarily revolves around comprehensive considerations encompassing the preservation of these edifices, the overarching planning of academic institutions, and the safeguarding of the distinctive features inherent to historical structures. However, the predominant focus lies on qualitative analyses, leaving a pressing need for quantitative assessments and the establishment of an evaluation framework to gauge the efficacy of historical building preservation in academia. Addressing this gap, this study employs the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation (FCE) to formulate the University Historical Building Protection Evaluation Framework (UHBPEF). Drawing from the examination and categorization of the primary instructional edifices within the Yujiatou campus of Wuhan University of Technology through the Research Classification Method (RCM), along with the consolidation of insights from experts and academic stakeholders, this study underscores the imperative of enhancing the scientific precision and pertinence of the university’s strategy for preserving historical buildings. By employing both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, this study offers innovative insights into the challenges facing historical building preservation in university settings, therefore propounding effective preservation strategies and offering a roadmap for future endeavors in this domain.

The Significance of Cultural Capital in Enhancing the Efficiency and Long-Term Viability of Village Credit Institutions in Bali

The objective of this study was to examine the impact of cultural capital on financial performance, marketing performance, and financial sustainability. Additionally, it investigated the influence of financial performance and marketing performance on financial sustainability. The study focused on Village Credit Institutions in Bali, specifically those categorised as healthy or fairly healthy, totalling 1,145 units. Using the Slovin formula, a sample size of 100 units was determined. Stratified proportional random sampling, based on the number of units in each district/city in Bali, was employed to collect the sample. The analysis technique used was the Smart-PLS. The findings indicated that cultural capital had a favourable impact on financial performance, marketing performance, and financial sustainability. Moreover, both financial performance and marketing performance positively influenced financial sustainability. Additionally, financial performance mediated the influence of cultural capital on financial sustainability. The scientific novelty of this study lies in its comprehensive analysis of the interplay between cultural capital and various performance metrics within Village Credit Institutions, an area that has been underexplored in existing literature. The practical significance is evident in its implications for policymakers and managers within these institutions, suggesting that the enhancement of the cultural capital can lead to improved financial and marketing outcomes, ultimately supporting long-term financial sustainability. This study provided valuable insights for strategic planning and resource allocation in similar financial institutions globally. The findings underscored the critical role of cultural capital in driving institutional performance and sustainability. This combination of theoretical exploration and methodological rigor enhanced the scholarly contribution of the study, offering insights that can inform both academic research and practical strategies for sustainable development in microfinance institutions.
