Knowledge Dissemination and Social Functions: The Multiple Roles of Shanghai Libraries in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China

This study focuses on the multi-dimensional function of Shanghai libraries in academic exchange and social functions from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China. Through the analysis of the social dynamic changes of Shanghai in this historical period, the first thing is to outline the social evolution of the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, and reveal the role of Shanghai as an important city in China. Then, the paper reviews the development of Shanghai Libraries since its establishment in detail, and emphasizes its cornerstone position in the collection, storage and cataloguing of document resources, especially its effectiveness in promoting the popularization of national education and promoting international cultural communication. In addition, the paper further discusses its function as a public place for leisure study, as well as its role in promoting social enlightenment and urban historical and cultural inheritance. By reflecting on the function and limitation of Shanghai Libraries in the historical moment and evaluating it from a fair and impartial perspective, this can provide historical reference for the construction and forward-looking planning of modern libraries. To sum up, Shanghai Libraries plays a key role in the central zone of knowledge circulation. In fact, it is a cultural institution that drives social innovation. In the long river from the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, its historical position is irreplaceable.

Implementasi Manajemen Perpustakaan untuk Meningkatkan Minat Baca Siswa

This research aims to analyze the implementation of library management in increasing students' reading interest. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. The research results show that library management includes several strategic steps. First, library planning focuses on creating an environment that supports learning and is fun for students. Second, organizing involves librarians and technical teams working synergistically to ensure library services run efficiently and effectively. Third, regular evaluations are carried out to ensure the library functions optimally as a learning resource center. This evaluation aims to identify areas that require improvement and innovation, so that the library continues to develop according to user needs. Library services to increase interest in reading include providing interesting reading materials, active promotions, book lending competitions, study tours, awards for active borrowers, reading records, and receiving suggestions for improvement.

PurposeThe purpose of this column is to interrogate what it means for photographs as practical storehouses of data, how that interacts with society’s understanding of photography and what all of this may mean for the role of libraries as they relate to photographs.Design/methodology/approachA new generation of camera technology, integrated into phones, is being released. This column examines the implications for society at large, adding libraries in particular.FindingsOnce it is easy to do dramatic photo manipulation on the device that takes the photos, it will change how users think about photos. This has implications for how libraries plan information literacy, advocate for their users in the creation of standards and manage their collections.Originality/valueThis column will help information professionals think through the implications of this change for the future of the profession.

The Current use of Adaptive Strategies for External Beam Radiotherapy in Cervical Cancer: A Systematic Review

AimsVariability in the target and organs at risk (OARs) in cervical cancer treatment presents challenges for precise radiotherapy. Adaptive radiotherapy (ART) offers the potential to enhance treatment precision and outcomes. However, the increased workload and a lack of consensus on the most suitable ART approach hinder its clinical adoption. This systematic review aims to assess the current use of adaptive strategies for cervical cancer and define the optimal approach. Materials and methodsA systematic review of current literature published between January 2012 and May 2023 was conducted. Searches used PubMed/Medline, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases, supplemented with the University of Manchester, Google Scholar, and papers retrieved from reference lists. The review assessed workflows, compared dosimetric benefits, and examined resources for each identified strategy. Excluded were abstracts, conference abstracts, reviews, articles unrelated to ART management, proton therapy, brachytherapy, or qualitative studies. A narrative synthesis involved data tabulation, summarizing selected studies detailing workflow for cervical cancer and dosimetric outcomes for targets and OARs. ResultsSixteen articles met the inclusion criteria; these were mostly retrospective simulation planning studies, except four studies that had been clinically implemented. We identified five approaches for ART radiotherapy for cervical cancer: reactive and scheduled adaptation, internal target volume (ITV)-based approach using library of plans (LOP), fixed-margin approach using LOP, and real-time adaptation, with each approach reducing irradiated volumes without compromising target coverage compared to the non-ART approach. The LOP-based ITV approach is the most used and clinically assessed. ConclusionIdentifying the optimal strategy is challenging due to dosimetric assessment limitations. Implementing cervical cancer ART necessitates strategic optimization of clinical benefits and resources through research, including studies to identify the optimal frequency, and prospective evaluations of toxicity.

Junior high schools are required to have adequate library facilities and infrastructure, because according to the saying the library is a window to the world, therefore based on researcher observations data on student visitors to the library shows that student enthusiasm is quite high, therefore to optimize the library in junior high schools in Kerawang In this case, it is necessary to plan library facilities and infrastructure well. Therefore, the researcher wanted to deepen this issue because he wanted to know the extent to which the school library was planned to fulfill students' interest in reading and learning. The research method used in this research uses a qualitative approach with the type of library research. The research results show that the planning of library facilities and infrastructure in schools is carried out well by providing complete library facilities and materials so that visitors will feel comfortable in the library and it will be much easier to find the books they are looking for. In terms of planning library facilities and infrastructure, this includes budget planning and collection development planning. Apart from that, you also need to pay attention to what facilities and infrastructure are needed by the library. The implications of this research are: 1) developing more effective learning strategies, 2) strengthening learning discipline, 3) improving reward and legal systems, 4) the role of teachers as motivators and managers, 5) increasing collaboration between schools and stakeholders and the community.

Thermoradiotherapy Optimization Strategies Accounting for Hyperthermia Delivery Uncertainties

IntroductionThe combined effect of hyperthermia and radiotherapy can be quantified by an enhanced equivalent radiation dose (EQDRT). Uncertainties in hyperthermia treatment planning and adjustments during treatment can impact achieved EQDRT. We developed and compared strategies for EQDRT optimization of radiotherapy plans, focusing on robustness against common adjustments. MethodsUsing Plan2Heat, we computed pre-planning hyperthermia plans and treatment adjustment scenarios for three cervical cancer patients. We imported these scenarios into RayStation 12A for optimization with four different strategies: (1) Conventional radiotherapy optimization prescribing 46 Gy to the planning target volume (PTV), (2) Nominal EQDRT optimization using the pre-planning scenario, targeting uniform 58 Gy in the gross tumor volume (GTV), keeping organs at risk (OAR) doses as in plan (1), (3) Robust EQDRT optimization, as (2) but adding adjusted scenarios for optimization, (4) Library of Plans (four plans), with strategy (2) criteria but optimizing on one adjusted scenario per plan. We calculated for each radiotherapy plan EQDRT distributions for pre-planning and adjusted scenarios, evaluating for each combination GTV coverage and homogeneity objectives. ResultsEQDRT95% increased from 49.9-50.9 Gy in strategy (1) to 56.1-57.4 Gy in strategy (2) with the pre-planning scenario, improving homogeneity in ∼10%. Strategy (2) demonstrated the best overall robustness, with 62% of all GTV objectives within tolerance. Strategy (3) had higher percentage of coverage objectives within tolerance than strategy (2) (68% vs 54%), but lower percentage for uniformity (44% vs 71%). Strategy (4) showed similar EQDRT95% and homogeneity for adjusted scenarios than strategy (2) for pre-planning scenario. D0.1% for OARs was increased by strategies (2-4) by up to ∼6 Gy. ConclusionsEQDRT optimization enhances EQDRT levels and uniformity compared to conventional optimization. Better overall robustness is achieved optimizing on the pre-planning hyperthermia plan. Robust optimization improves coverage but reduces homogeneity. A library of plans ensures coverage and uniformity when dealing with adjusted hyperthermia scenarios.

Implementing Plan of the Day for Cervical Cancer: A Comparison of Target Volume Generation Methods

Background and purposeDue to substantial interfraction motion in cervix cancer, Plan-of-the-Day (PotD) adaptive radiotherapy may be of benefit to patients. Implementation is limited by uncertainty over how to generate the planning target volumes (PTVs). We compared published methods on our own patients. Materials and methodsForty patients each had three planning scans with variable bladder filling and daily cone beam CTs (CBCTs) during radiotherapy; 5-11 CBCTs were selected to represent interfraction motion. Clinical target volumes (CTVs) and organs at risk (OARs) were contoured following EMBRACE-II guidelines. A literature search identified 30 adaptive and non-adaptive solutions to PTV generation, which we applied to our patients. PTV sizes and mean coverage of the daily CTV were determined. For 11 patients, the clinically-implemented subjectively-edited plan library was also investigated. ResultsEleven studies assessed 15 PotD strategies against non-adaptive comparators on median 14 patients (range 9-23). Some PotD approaches applied margin recipes to the CTV on each planning scan, some modelled the CTV against bladder volume, and others applied incremental isotropic margins to the CTV with a single planning scan. Generally, coverage improved as PTV size increased. The fixed isotropic margin required to provide 100% coverage of all patients was 44mm, with mean PTV size 3316cc. The PotD strategy with the best coverage was a two-plan library formed by modelling the CTV against bladder volume with extrapolation; it provided 98% mean coverage with 1419cc mean PTV size. A three-plan library consisting of the CTV on each planning scan with 10mm margin provided 96% mean coverage with 1346cc mean PTV size. The clinically-implemented solution which employed subjective extrapolation, had mean 100% coverage and 1282cc PTV size on the 11-patient subset. Coverage provided by the best non-adaptive strategies was not statistically superior to the best PotD strategy (p = 0.13) but PTVs were larger (p = 0.02). ConclusionWe identified a modelled two-plan method, and a simple three-plan method, which both provided excellent coverage with small PTVs compared to non-adaptive strategies.

Role of Strategic Human Resource Management and the Development of Information Systems for the Enhancement of Libraries

Human Resource Management (HRM) plays a significant role in incorporating HRM into the library planning procedure, which enhances Human Resource (HR)'s capacity to foresee the requirements of its users. Efficiently managing the HR of a library is crucial for achieving the library's objectives. The synchronization of HRM refers to the integration of choices about employees with decisions regarding the desired goals of a business. The primary fields of concentration should be diversity, hiring, preservation, personnel growth, and workers' quality. When these tasks are effectively organized and executed, they contribute to achieving the library's objective by using individuals with appropriate expertise in suitable roles. The study's primary goals were to evaluate the current state of HRM, its impact on strategic leadership, and the growth of library Information Systems (IS) projects and services. To achieve these goals, the researcher used the case study. The sample only consisted of Libraries with abundant resources, encompassed a minimum of 0.1 million bound quantities, offered access to digital Databases, and employed at least four qualified librarians throughout the data collecting period. Some libraries had already begun the planning procedure, while others were on the verge of starting it. This research included a combination of qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The data collection tools used were self-administered and semi-structured surveys. The findings indicate a robust correlation between HRM and the advancement of strategic planning in libraries. The growth of workers, staff inspiration, and work happiness should be considered.

From SOFT approach to SWOT analysis, a historical reconstruction

Purpose The purpose of this study is to revisit the conventional wisdom about a key contribution [i.e. strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats (SWOT) analysis] in the field of strategic management. The societal context and the role of academics, consultants and executives is taken into account in the emergence of SWOT analysis during the 1960–1980 period as a pivotal development within the broader context of the satisfactory, opportunities, faults, threats (SOFT) approach. The authors report on both the content and the approach, so that other scholars seeking to invigorate indigenous theories and/or underreported strategy practices will thrive. Design/methodology/approach Applying a historiographic approach, the authors introduce an evidence-based methodology for interpreting historical sources. This methodology incorporates source criticism, triangulation and hermeneutical interpretation, drawing upon insights from robust evidence through three iterative stages. Findings The underreporting of the SOFT approach/SWOT analysis can be attributed to several factors, including strategy tools being integrated into planning frameworks rather than being published as standalone materials; restricted circulation of crucial long-range planning service/theory and practice of planning reports due to copyright limitations; restricted access to the Stanford Research Institute Planning Library in California; and the enduring popularity of SOFT and SWOT variations, driven in part by their memorable acronyms. Originality In the spirit of a renaissance in strategic planning research, the authors unveil novel theoretical and social connections in the emergence of SWOT analysis by combining evidence from both theory and practice and delving into previously unexplored areas. Research implications Caution is advised for scholars who examine the discrete time frame of 1960–1980 through mere bibliometric techniques. This study underscores the risks associated with gathering incomplete and/or inaccurate data, emphasizing the importance of triangulating evidence beyond scholarly databases. The paradigm shift of strategic management research due to the advent of large language models poses new challenges and the risk of conserving and perpetuating academic urban legends, myths and lies if training data is not adequately curated.

On the necessity of specialized knowledge-based models for SBRT prostate treatments plans

PurposeTest whether a well-grounded KBP model trained on moderately hypo-fractionated prostate treatments can be used to satisfactorily drive the optimization of SBRT prostate treatments. Materials and methodsA KBP model (SBRT-model) was developed, trained and validated using the first forty-seven clinically treated VMAT SBRT prostate plans (42.7 Gy/7fx or 36.25 Gy/5fx). The performance and robustness of this model were compared against a high-quality KBP-model (ST-model) that was already clinically adopted for hypo-fractionated (70 Gy/28fx and 60 Gy/20fx) prostate treatments. The two models were compared in terms of their predictions robustness, and the quality of their outcomes were evaluated against a set of reference clinical SBRT plans. Plan quality was assessed using DVH metrics, blinded clinical ranking, and a dedicated Plan Quality Metric algorithm. ResultsThe plan libraries of the two models were found to share a high degree of anatomical similarity. The overall quality (APQM%) of the plans obtained both with the ST- and SBRT-models was compatible with that of the original clinical plans, namely (93.7 ± 4.1)% and (91.6 ± 3.9)% vs (92.8.9 ± 3.6)%. Plans obtained with the ST-model showed significantly higher target coverage (PTV V95%): (97.9 ± 0.8)% vs (97.1 ± 0.9)% (p < 0.05). Conversely, plans optimized following the SBRT-model showed a small but not-clinically relevant increase in OAR sparing. ST-model generally provided more reliable predictions than SBRT-model. Two radiation oncologists judged as equivalent the plans based on the KBP prediction, which was also judged better that reference clinical plans. ConclusionA KBP model trained on moderately fractionated prostate treatment plans provided optimal SBRT prostate plans, with similar or larger plan quality than an embryonic SBRT-model based on a limited number of cases.

Determining the library size for the optimal output plan in the RapidPlan knowledge-based planning system using multicriteria optimization.

The aim of this study was to determine the number of trade-off explored (TO) library plans required for building a RapidPlan (RP) library that would generate the optimal clinical treatment plan. We developed 2 RP models, 1 each for the 2 clinical sites, head and neck (HN) and cervix. The models were created using 100 plans and were validated using 70 plans (VP) for each site respectively. Each of the 2 libraries comprising 100 TO plans was divided into 5 different subsets of library plans comprising 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 plans, leading to 5 different RP models for each site. For every validation patient, a TO plan (TO_VP) was created. For every patient, 5 RP plans were automatically generated using RP models. The dosimetric parameters of the 6 plans (TO_VP + 5 RP plans) were compared using Pearson correlation and Greenhouse-Geisser analysis. Planning target volume (PTV) dose volume parameters PTVD95% in 6 competing plans varied between 97.6 ± 0.7% and 98.1 ± 0.6% in HN cases and 98.8 ± 0.3% and 99.0 ± 0.4% in cervix cases. Overall, for both sites, the mean variations in organ at risk (OAR) doses or volumes were within 50 cGy, 0.5%, and 0.2 cc between library plans, and if TO_VP was included the variations deteriorated to 180 cGy, 0.4%, and 15 cc. All OARs in both sites, except D0.1 ccspine, showed a statistically insignificant variation between all plans. Dosimetric variation among various output plans generated from 5 RP libraries is minimal and clinically insignificant. The optimal output plan can be derived from the least-weighted library consisting of 20 plans. This article shows that, when the constituent plans are subjected to trade-off exploration, the number of constituent plans for a knowledge-based planning module is not relevant in terms of its dosimetric output.

As library is a very important source of learning, and every school must own and organize a library that meets national library standards. In this study, the main problem is how to implement library management at Al Kautsar Middle School, Bandar Lampung. This study aims to to describe the planning, organizing, leadership, and supervision of the Al Kautsar Middle School library in Bandar Lampung. This type of research uses a qualitative research method with a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection was done through interviews, observation, and documentation. While data analysis included data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The results of the research were as follows: 1) library planning consists of determining the vision, mission, and objectives, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and understanding the opportunities and threats of the library. 2) The organization of the library comprises the division of labor, the division of authority, the unity of command, and the formation of structures has been going well. 3) The leadership of the SMP Al Kautsar Bandar Lampung library was carried out by measuring national standards. 4) Library supervision was carried out by measuring indicators of library supervision. Strategies to mitigate the cannibalization effect between subscription video-on-demand and transactional video-on-demand

Video-on-demand (VOD) service providers face the challenge of making strategic decisions regarding the allocation of movies to specific pricing plan libraries. This study delves into the cannibalization effect that occurs when a movie transitions from the transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) library to the subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) library. We conducted a comprehensive analysis using user purchasing and viewing data for 1541 movies offered by SK Broadband, South Korea's leading VOD service provider. Our analysis employed propensity score matching and difference-in-difference methodologies. The results of our initial analysis reveal that allocating movies to SVOD leads to an 192% increase in the number of views while simultaneously 52% decreasing TVOD sales. Additionally, we investigate the characteristics of movies that are particularly effective for SVOD servicing. To accomplish this, we scrutinized 236 movies available in SK Broadband's SVOD service using a cost-effectiveness analysis. Our second analysis demonstrates that certain categories of movies, including foreign films, non-G-rated movies, animations, and films not allowed as Download-To-Own (DTO), are more suitable for allocation to SVOD libraries. Furthermore, movies with lower box office viewership numbers exhibit greater success when allocated to SVOD. This study offers insights into the strategic considerations that VOD service providers should embrace, emphasizing a content feature-driven approach to managing pricing plan combinations.

An Intelligent Obstacle Avoidance Method for Six Degree of Freedom Robotic Arm Based on Assembly Sequence Planning

Abstract Autonomous operation planning of robotic arms under complex task constraints is still a difficult problem in the current research in this direction, and the existing operation planning methods are facing challenges and urgently need to break through the technical bottleneck. This paper proposes an improved RRT algorithm for six-degree-of-freedom robotic arms, which can be used for obstacle avoidance path planning. Based on the assembly sequence planning method, combining the advantages of RRT and RRT-connect algorithm, applying the idea of target sampling to strengthen the convergence of the algorithm to the target point search, introducing the greedy algorithm to improve the efficiency of the algorithm, combining with the five times of the B-spline interpolation on the path of the smoothing optimization, to shorten the planning path time and length. The Robotics Toolbox toolkit in MATLAB is used to count the time, number of samples, and path length required for the planning of RRT and the improved RRT algorithm, and the dynamic planning library is used to configure the algorithm and verify the path planning effect of the improved algorithm. Compared with the traditional RRT algorithm, using the proposed SDPS-RRT Connect algorithm for six-degree-of-freedom robotic arm path planning, the minimum distance of the connecting rod from the obstacle is 51.4948cm, which is greater than the standard safety distance of 45cm, which verifies the feasibility of the algorithm in practical applications.

This study aims to determine the role of libraries, namely librarians, collections, management and increase the interest in reading students and female students of the Islamic University Tribakti Lirboyo Kediri. This research is aims to determine and describe the planning, procurement, use, inventory, inhibiting factors and supporting the library at the Islamic University tribakti. This study is a qualitative research using descriptive methods. Data collection was conducted by interviews, observations, and documentation studies. Data analysis techniques are carried out through descriptive interpretation, data validity test, participation extension, and auditing. Library planning is carried out by musyarawah, organizing is done by election and mutually agreed, implementation is carried out in accordance with the plan and according to their respective duties and supervision is carried out every day such as supervision of circulation and cleanliness, neatness and discipline services. The development of the collection is done by deliberation and submission from the user, the supporting factor is adequate facilities, the inhibiting factor is that the librarians available are not graduates from their fields.

This study delved into the realm of reading interest and library activities at MI Salafiyah Duwet Pekalongan City, seeking to unravel the intricate connections between these factors and their impact on student learning. The findings revealed that reading interest plays a pivotal role in enabling students to attain their educational objectives and refine their reading proficiency. Furthermore, the study underscored the library's transformative influence on fostering a passion for reading. Students who actively engage with library resources expand their knowledge base, cultivate a deeper appreciation for the written word, and develop a lifelong love of reading. Effective library management encompasses a three-pronged approach: organizing, mobilizing, and building. Organizing involves meticulously crafting a comprehensive library plan that encompasses the collection, staffing, and physical space. Mobilizing entails actively promoting the library's resources and services to the student body and the wider community. Building centers on maintaining the library's infrastructure, ensuring its continued functionality, and implementing necessary improvements to optimize its effectiveness.

Evolution of strategic issues: a 20-year analysis of public library planning in South Korea

This study delves into the strategic issues faced by public libraries in South Korea spanning the period from 2003 to 2022. An extensive examination of 176 strategic planning documents from 17 local governments resulted in the selection and analysis of 75 documents using a strategic planning analysis model. The findings reveal that issues such as staff/training, collaboration/networks, information literacy, digital libraries, physical space, and collection emerged as major concerns in the strategic planning of public libraries in Korea. An analysis of the top issues' distribution over five-year intervals showed that staff/training issues consistently held a high rank over the 20-year period, underscoring their enduring strategic importance. Conversely, collection-related issues started with a low rank between 2003 and 2007 but consistently rose in significance from 2008 to 2022, becoming crucial strategic considerations for public libraries. Notably, these trends align closely with the direction set by the Comprehensive Library Advancement Plan at the national level for each period. The study underscores how the national-level development plan for libraries significantly influences the detailed strategic planning directions of local public libraries.
