Perinatal programming factors of deviations of physical development of premature infants

The analysis of obstetric anamnesis and indicators of heart rate variability in the neonatal period in prematurely born children who had deviations of somatometric parameters from reference values at the age of 12 months was carried out. Excessive due to various reasons, the level of adrenomimetics supplied with maternal blood caused an increase in the intensity of metabolism in the fetal body and inhibition of the activity of sympathoadrenal systems. The insufficient provision of the fetal and newborn organism with energy and plastic materials that arose under these conditions initiated perinatal metabolic programming of deviations in the physical development of prematurely born infants.

Effect of Multisensory Stimulation on the Physical Growth of Premature Infants

Introduction: Height and head circumference is one of the criteria for physical health of preterm infants and indicates their neuromuscular development. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of multisensory stimulation on height and head circumference of preterm infants.
 Methods: The present study was a clinical trial study; which was performed on premature infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit at Shahid Motahari Hospital in Jahrom City, Iran, in 2016. Initially, 80 infants with a gestational age of 32 to 36 weeks were randomly divided into two groups of multisensory stimulation and control. The intervention method in this study was that the intervention group had a multisensory stimulation program (auditory stimulation, tactile stimulation, visual stimulation and vestibular stimulation) by mothers for 12 minutes per day and 5 times a week until discharge and in the control group they only received the usual care ward. The height and head circumference were measured by the researcher with a meter until the day the infant was discharged from the ward. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 16.
 Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups of preterm infants in terms of fetal age, birth weight and sex. Based on the comparison between groups, a significant difference was observed in the two groups in terms of height and head circumference (P <0.001).
 Conclusion: The findings of this study show that multisensory stimulation affects the physical development of premature infants.

The effect of preventive use of hydrolyzed protein formula milk on gastrointestinal diseases and physical development of premature infants: A protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background:Because of the controversy in clinical nutritional support therapy of hydrolyzed protein formula milk and standard preterm infant formula (SPIF) in premature infants. In this study, the effectiveness and safety of preventive use of hydrolyzed protein formula milk in reducing gastrointestinal diseases and promoting physical development of premature infants are scientifically evaluated by systematic evaluation. To help find the suitable nutritional support for premature infants.Methods:To search the database of Chinese and English by computer: SinoMed, CNKI, WanFang Data, VIP, PubMed, EMbase and The Cochrane Library, and to collect randomized controlled trials on the application of hydrolyzed protein formula milk in nutritional support treatment of premature infants compared with SPIF. The retrieval time limit is from the establishment of each database to September 1, 2020. Two authors independently completed the paper search, and sorting out the main outcome indicator and secondary outcome indicator in the selected literature, and the data are statistically analyzed by Review Manager software (RevManV.5.3.0) and STATA 13.0.Results:This study will provide a high-quality evidence on the effects of hydrolyzed protein formula milk on gastrointestinal diseases and physical development of premature infants.Conclusion:At present, the clinicians are controversial about the safety and effectiveness of hydrolyzed protein formula milk and SPIF in the nutritional support therapy of premature infants. This study will compare the effectiveness and safety of these 2 nutritional support methods, and make a comprehensive analysis of the influence of hydrolyzed protein formula milk on gastrointestinal diseases and physical development of premature infants, and finally give a positive conclusion.OSF registration number:DOI 10.17605/OSF.IO/UQD92
