Effectiveness Of Gardening Using 10% And 15% Lemon Solution On Reducing Dental Plaque Index (Grade 11 students at SMA Negeri 1 Porong)

Efforts to overcome dental and oral health problems and improve oral hygiene can be done by preventing and eliminating plaque accumulation. Efforts to prevent the appearance of plaque are called plaque control. The results of examining the PHP index in class 11 of SMA Negeri 1 Porong showed that 5 out of 10 respondents had a bad plaque index with a prevalence of 50% with an average PHP index of 3.54. High PHP index. The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of gargling using lemon solution with levels of 10% and 15% in reducing the dental plaque index in class 11 students of SMA Negeri 1 Porong in 2024. This type of research is Pre-Experimental research with One Group Pretest Posttest with a sample of students Class 11 of SMA Negeri 1 Porong, totaling 52 students. The data collection instrument used was an examination sheet to measure the PHP index. The analysis technique uses an unpaired T test (Independent T-Test). The test results from the research obtained a ρ value of 0.108 or a significant ρ score above α (0.05). The conclusion from this study is that there is no difference in the effectiveness of gargling using lemon solution with levels of 10% and 15%.

Efficacy of probiotics and coconut oil-based mouthrinses to improve oral health

Objectives: We analyzed the relative beneficial impacts of probiotics and coconut oil-based mouth rinses on oral health. Methods : A total of 33 subjects were enrolled and randomly assigned to three groups. Coconut oil and probiotics were given to the experimental group, and distilled water to the control group. We evaluated the possession site of Gingival index, CPITN index, BOP, Pocket depth, and PHP index. Results: In the coconut oil and probiotic groups, Gingival index significantly decreased on both days 15 and 30. CPITN significantly decreased on days 15 and 30 in the coconut oil group (p<0.01), and on day 30 in the probiotic group (p=0.002). There was a significant interaction between group and time for BOP and PHP index (p<0.001), and the coconut oil group was more effective in improving BOP and PHP index. Conclusions: The above results showed that the mediation effect of coconut oil and probiotics was more effective with coconut oil.

EVALUATION OF MAGIFRESH MOUTHWASH MANALAGI APPLE PEEL EXTRACT

Regular dental care and oral hygiene are important steps in maintaining overall body health. Plaque is one of the dental problems that can develop into diseases that are detrimental to oral health. One way to remove plaque is to use preventive dental products. Previous research shows MAGIfresh, which is a 25% manalagi apple peel extract mouthwash, shows good potential as a mouthwash for dental health. Therefore, it is important to conduct further research to test the effectiveness of the product. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in effectiveness of MAGIfresh mouthwash, mineral water, and mouthwash products on the market against plaque deposits. This type of research is a quasi-experiment. The sample amounted to 62 students majoring in dental health at Poltekkes Kemenkes Jakarta I. The sample was divided into 3 groups, namely A (MAGIfresh mouthwash), B (mineral water mouthwash), and C (market mouthwash). After gargling, the samples were examined for PHP index. Statistical analysis using one way ANOVA. The results showed a PHP index in groups A = 1.51, B = 1.94, and C = 2.37. The results of the analysis of differences between the 3 groups showed a ?-value of 0.034 <0.05. The conclusion of the study is that there is a significant difference in the average PHP Index between the 3 groups, gargling MAGIfresh mouthwash has the same effectiveness as gargling mineral water, and gargling MAGIfresh mouthwash is more effective when compared to gargling one of the mouthwash products from the market.

Assessment of Patient Hygiene Performance Index in concordance with postoperative scaling/root Planing Oral Hygiene Instructions

Aim: To assess the impact of oral hygiene instructions on the periodontal health of the patients by estimating patient hygiene performance index after scaling/ root planing. Materials and Methods: The study included 60 patients and was conducted over a private university setting. They were divided into three equal groups of 20 patients. Group-I included patients to whom oral hygiene instructions were not given, Group-II includes patients to whom instructions given through individual sessions, Group- III include patients to whom oral hygiene instructions given in group sessions. Patients were recalled after 15 days to assess the oral hygiene by calculating patient hygiene performance index. Results: Results of our study suggested that oral hygiene instructions given in individual sessions have shown a significant improvement in comparison to the other two groups. The mean PHP index score for a group with individual oral hygiene instructions baseline score is 3.03. The mean PHP index score for a group with individual oral hygiene instructions after 15 days is 1.21 which implies good oral hygiene status. Conclusion: From the above study, it can be concluded that providing oral hygiene instructions have a significant effect on maintaining periodontal health. The method of communicating oral hygiene instructions to the patient is proportional to good oral hygiene.

Effectiveness of Purple Sweet Potato Extract and Disclosing Substance for Plaque Identification

Oral hygiene is an indicator of oral and dental health which can be assessed based on the presence or absence of organic deposits, such as pellicle, materia alba (dental deposit), food residue, calculus, and dental plaque. Plaque is the cause of tooth decay among the world's population. Plaque on the tooth surface can be used as an indicator of oral hygiene. Poor cleaning can lead to stickier plaque and tartar after calcification. The thin plaque is almost the same as the color of the teeth, so that plaque cannot be seen with the naked eye. The presence of plaque that is formed from contact with oral fluids can be detected by using certain dye. This study aims to determine the Effectiveness of Purple Sweet Potato Extract and Disclosing substance for Plaque Identification among the children in Aisyah Orphanage, Tilatang Kamang Sub-District, Agam District. This was a quasi-experimental study with a post-test-only design. The samples of this study were 30 children at Aisyah Orphanage, Tilatang Kamang Sub-District, Agam District, with the inclusion criteria of children with permanent teeth and index teeth. The samples were selected through total sampling technique. The results showed that after applying purple sweet potato extract to the children at Aisyah Orphanage in Bukittinggi City, most of them had the Patient Hygiene Performance index (PHP) in the moderate criteria (50%). Furthermore, after applying disclosing substances to the children at Aisyah Orphanage in Bukittinggi City, most of them had the PHP index in the poor criteria (56.7%). The t-test independent statistical test results obtained a p-value of 0.000 (p <0.005), indicating a significant difference between sweet potato extract and disclosing substance. Disclosing substance was more effective than purple sweet potato extract in identifying plaque on the tooth surface. Further study is recommended to apply purple sweet potato extract with different concentrations as an alternative ingredient to identify plaque on the tooth surface.

Comparative analysis of individual oral hygiene during treatment with bracket systems and aligners

Relevance. Individual oral hygiene is the primary way to prevent major dental diseases. Fixed orthodontic appliances (braces) may become a barrier to good individual oral care. Aligners can provide an alternative to braces, allowing adequate toothbrushing when removed.Aim. To compare hygiene levels among patients undergoing orthodontic treatment with conventional bracket systems and aligners.Materials and methods. The study assessed oral hygiene levels at the baseline, two weeks and three months after the beginning of orthodontic treatment. The study used the PHP index to evaluate oral hygiene levels..Results. Three months later, the comparative analysis revealed that 10% of patients with braces had good oral hygiene, 30% had acceptable oral hygiene, and 60% had poor. Twenty per cent of patients with aligners had good oral hygiene, 60% had acceptable oral hygiene, and 20% had poor.Conclusions. Individual oral hygiene level in patients with fixed orthodontic appliances is significantly lower than in patients with removable appliances.

The analysis follows the waterfall method, requirements, design, coding, and testing in the local server, then uploads the .php index to the database server. This website application helps managers, owners, and other employees by facilitating the process of monitoring, reporting, and discussing even remotely. Using programs such as HTML, PHP, and MySQL, the author developed a website that speeds up the managerial process and creates a database server for storing digital documents. Users of this application were assessed a scale of 1 to 5: Interface design: 4.25, User-friendliness: 4.5, Facilities: 4, Access speed: 3.25, so it has an overall score of 4.25 out of 5.

Ischaemic stroke and oral inflammatory diseases

The aim of this study was to establish clinical significance of oral inflammatory diseases in ischaemic stroke (IS), how aware doctors and nurses are of this problem, and the safety and possibility of performing dental hygiene in patients with acute IS.
 Materials and methods. We examined 100 patients who had suffered an ischaemic stroke in the internal carotid artery territory within 6 to 48 hours. The efficacy of dental hygiene and the risk of developing chronic oral sepsis were evaluated using the Patient Hygiene Performance Index (PHP) and Chronic Oral Sepsis Risk index (COSR). Quality of life was assessed using the short version of the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14). The sociological study included 100 patients with ischaemic stroke, 38 nurses, and 18 neurologists.
 Results. The severity of IS at study inclusion was 8 (3; 15) points on the NIHSS, while the Barthel Index score was 70 (45; 90) points. The modified Rankin Scale score was 13 points. The PHP index was 2.28 0.05 and the COSR index was 20.13 0.50. The OHIP-14 results (a total score of 28.1 6.8 points) also indicated unsatisfactory quality of dental health. The results of sociological studies revealed low level of awareness regarding dental care during acute IS among doctors. After professional oral care, treatment of oral inflammatory diseases, and removal of significantly damaged teeth, patients with IS had a decrease in the PHP index to 1.17 0.05 and the COSR index to 7.36 0.50, which corresponds to a satisfactory level of dental hygiene by the end of the acute stroke period. The impact of dental health on quality of life parameters as measured by the OHIP-14 scale (22.4 7.2 points) was satisfactory.
 Conclusion. The most important aspect of early dental care in patients with IS is increasing the quality of oral health.

Plaque and pH saliva are factors that can cause dental caries. The prevalence of caries according to RISKESDAS (2018) reached 45.3% in Indonesia. WHO (2012) states that the prevalence of caries for school children at 60%-90%. They are fond of consuming cariogenic foods that can increase the risk of caries. The Royal Gala Apple contains antibacterial that can inhibit plaque formation and have a slight acid flavor that can stimulate saliva flow. Aim: To know the influence of chewing the Royal Gala Apples to plaque formation and pH saliva in grade VI students SDIT Assunnah Cirebon. Method: Quasi experiment with one group pretests posttest design. Samples of 33 students. The samples were instructed to chew the Royal Gala Apple 100 gr for 5 minutes. Plaque measured by PHP index and pH saliva is measured with universal indicator paper. Results: The normality test of Kolmogorov-Smirnov is obtained by the plaque and pH saliva results before and after chewing the royal Gala p-value of < 0.05 so, that distribution data is abnormal. Data analyzed using Wilcoxon test was obtained PHP plaque index and pH saliva before and after chewing Apple Royal Gala p-value: 0.000 (sig < 0.05) Conclusion: there is a chewing effect of the Royal Gala Apple Fruit against plaque formation and pH saliva in grade VI students SDIT Assunnah Cirebon.

Changes in PHP index following the use of waterpiks by orthodontic patients

Objectives: He study was conducted to examine the effects of the combined use of waterpik and hexamidine mouthwash by orthodontic patients on the decrease of oral periodontal bacteria pathogens and dental plaque index. Methods: In this study, oral health education was conducted for four weeks by dividing 30 orthodontic patients at Y dental clinic in Busan into a control group and an experimental group after which their PHP index was measured. Results: PHP index values decreased the most when the number of weeks of waterpik use was longer and when there was a combined use of waterpiks and hexamidine after the administation of oral health education. Conclusions: Oral health education hours must be extended so that dental hygienists can encourage patients to use the combination of Waterpik and hexamidine solution.

The influence of the degree of sanogenetic education of the population in a subsidized subject of the Russian Federation on dental health

To determine the effect of healthy lifestyle (HLS) on dental health (prevalence and intensity of dental diseases). The study was conducted in the standard age group 35-44 years. According to the results of a sociological survey, two groups were formed: leading HLS (1st group, 30 respondents) and those not leading HLS (2nd group, 34 respondents). The presence and prevalence of caries, its intensity (DMFT index), the hygienic state of the oral cavity (Green-Vermillion index (GRVI) and the effectiveness of oral hygiene (PHP), the state of periodontal tissues (CPITN)) were assessed. The prevalence of caries in group №1 was 77%, in 2nd group - 100%, the average value of the DMFT in group №1 was 8.9±0.2, in 2nd group - 17.1±0.3; the values of the GRVI index differed 5 times (1.1 and 5.2), the PHP index - 9 times (0.2 and 1.8, correspondently). In 2nd group, the high prevalence of dentition defects was revealed (40%), only 6% of patients had a normal periodontal condition, pathological periodontal pockets with a depth of 6 and more mm in patients were 3 times higher (9%) comparing to 1st group (3%). Periodontal care was required 94% of patients in the 2nd group (in 1st group - 72%). Patients in the 1st group took much better care of their teeth: the level of hygiene index was within 1.1 (in 2nd group - 5.2 - poor) Adequate oral hygiene regimen was found in 93% of patients in 1st group and only in 38% in 2nd group. The data obtained indicate not only poor dental health of the population, but also about significant shortcomings in the medical care and the low efficiency of preventive work on the part of the dental service.

Evaluation of the effectiveness of moisturizing toothpaste in patients with medical-induced dry mouth (pilot study)

The aim of the pilot study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of moisturizing toothpaste in patients with drug-induced dry mouth during therapy of the underlying disease. Materials and methods. According to the inclusion criteria, 80 people took part in the study, of whom 40 had dry mouth during treatment of the underlying disease and 40 people were healthy volunteers with episodic dry mouth. The effectiveness of oral hygiene was assessed using the PHP index, as well as the quality of life was assessed using the OHIP-14 questionnaire. All patients underwent professional oral hygiene using air-abrasive technology with a glycine-based powder with a particle size of 65 μm. The experimental group was prescribed for home oral hygiene using a moisturizing toothpaste with sodium PCA, betaine, mallow, xylitol. Results. Initially, an unsatisfactory level was determined both in the experimental group (2.1±0.3) and in the control group (1.8±0.1). On the 15th day of the study, the improvement in indicators was determined by 62% in the experimental group (1.3±0.2) and by 67% in the control group (1.2±0.1). A month later, in the experimental group, the index was 0.7±0.1, which is 54% in comparison with the intermediate situation, and in the control group, 0.6±0.2, accounting for 50% of the increase in efficiency. Plaque buildup on the tooth surface and a decrease in salivary pH can be a risk of dental caries. Children aged 10-11 years are an age that is prone to dental and oral health problems such as dental caries. The percentage of children who have caries at the age of 10-11 years is 82%. Red betel leaf is known to contain antibacterial compounds that can be used as natural ingredients in making mouthwash to inhibit plaque formation and increase salivary pH. The research objective: to determine the effect of red betel leaf decoction (Piper crocatum Ruiz Pav.) on oral hygiene and the degree of acidity of saliva in children aged 10-11 years. Research methods: using a quasi-experimental design with one group pre-test and post-test designs. Sampling by purposive sampling as many as 20 people. The research measuring instrument used the PHP index and saliva pH. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test. The results: after gargling red betel leaf stew, the average oral hygiene status increased from 2.90 to 1.98 and the degree of saliva acidity increased from 6.65 to 7.7, the Wilcoxon test results obtained p-value = 0.000 (0.05). Conclusion: there is an effect of gargling red betel leaf decoction on oral hygiene status and the degree of acidity of saliva in children aged 10-11 years.

THE REDUCTION EFFECT OF DENTAL PLAQUE BASED ON AN ORAL HYGIENE PROGRAM USING INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY

Dental plaque management is the most basic step of oral disease prevention. Patients need to be educated on how to manage dental plaque to help them develop the basic abilities and skills needed to manage their oral health for their lifetime. An oral hygiene management program that overcomes time and spatial limitations by providing comprehensive education on oral hygiene care, without requiring patients to visit a hospital, is urgently needed in the busy modern society, and by patients with chronic diseases who have limited mobility. Considering the increased incidence of oral diseases and continuous increase in dental costs, and the escalating implementation of ICT and U-healthcare, we here investigated the effect of a remote oral hygiene management program for reducing dental plaque, based on communication between a hospital and patients using information and communication technology (ICT). The mean PHP index, which was 2.75 points prior to program implementation, had decreased to 0.95 points after completing the 10 program sessions. The PHP index was measured at 2.75 points at the beginning of the program, but gradually decreased to 2.13 points by the 3rd session, 1.82 points by the 6th session, 0.97 points by the 8th session and 0.95 points by the 10th session. This indicated that the program improved the participants’ ability to manage their oral health and effectively removed dental plaque, thereby improving the participants’ oral health status. This study illustrates a new oral hygiene management model that may suit the changing dental field by verifying the effectiveness of an oral hygiene program using ICT.

The media presenters of counseling materials in learning dental and oral health are needed. One of the learning media in dental and oral health education is counseling using crossword media as an alternative that can be used as an extension media. Media crossword puzzle is a game media that can be used as an extension media in dental and oral health education and can attract the interest of counseling participants. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of counseling between lecture methods by filling in crossword puzzles on the knowledge and level of dental and oral hygiene in Class VIII and VII students of Mempawah District Arraudhatul Islamiyah MTs in 2018. The population in the study was 74 people. The research sample was taken purposively with certain criteria. Group I numbered 30 people and research subjects II amounted to 30 people. The research used was quasi-experimental research with Pre-Post observation research design, Wilcoxon Signed Rannks Test statistical test to measure knowledge before and after treatment and paired t-test, to measure the level of dental and oral hygiene before and after treatment, Effectiveness Test with percent to measure the effectiveness of counseling and filling in crossword puzzles. With a measuring instrument questionnaire to measure knowledge and PHP index checks to measure the level of dental and oral hygiene. The results of the study that knowledge and level of dental and oral hygiene were both counseling with refinement and filling in crossword puzzles between before and after there were significant differences p &lt;0.05. Counseling by filling in crosswords is more effective in increasing knowledge with an average difference of 22.0% while lecture counseling is 20.1%. The improvement of dental and oral hygiene of the crossword group was 68.2% while the lecture was 54.4%.

Caries is a problem that often occurs in school-age children. Special Region of Yogyakarta is a province that has a high DMF-T index by 5.9 and exceeds the national DMF-T index. One of the efforts to improve dental and oral health of school-age children is the health education method using simulation methods, as well as simple techniques that may attract children's attention and be understood. The aim of the current study is to knowing the influence of oral and dental hygiene education intervention on dental and oral hygiene level at SD Negeri 3 Sleman students. This research used a kind of quasi experimental research with one group pretest posttest design. The research was done in SD Negeri 3 Sleman, the sample used was the 3rd graders from 57 students in 2017. The intervention was done by dental and oral hygiene education. Respondents were examined related to their dental and oral hygiene levels. It was measured by the PHP Index (Patient Hygiene Perfomance) before and after the intervention. According to results, The average score of respondents’dental and oral hygine pre test was 0.0823 and the average post test score of respondents’dental and oral hygiene was 1.4830. There is the difference of 1.4007. This shows an increament in oral hygiene of the respondent before and after the education. The results of statistical analysis show that there is an influence of oral and dental hygiene which pvalue 0,000 &amp;lt;0.05. Thus, there is a need for dental and mouth hygiene education to be conducted regularly and delivered with an interesting method.

Differences in the oral health behaviour of the 12-years-old children in rural and urban areas

Introduction: The oral diseases have increased significantly in the past decade. The Health Service of Cimahi reports showed an increasing number of oral diseases. Behaviour plays an important role in preventing oral disease. The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in the oral health behavior of the 12-years-old children in the rural and urban area of the city of Cimahi. Methods: The research type was analytic with the cross-sectional design. The sample was determined using pathfinder survey method from oral health surveys basic methods. Data were collected through a questionnaire containing knowledge and attitudes, observations of practice assessed in the checklist and assessment of the health status of the teeth using the Patient Hygiene Performance Data Index and analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The results showed that children in both rural and urban areas were having a good knowledge and positive attitude. Both the rural and urban children were doing the improper tooth brushing methods, and the children in the rural area had a fair PHP index value whilst the children in the urban area had a poor value. There were significant differences in the knowledge (p = 0.017), there was no significant difference in the attitude (p = 0.312) and practice (p = 1.000) in children of both rural and urban areas. Conclusion: Difference only found in the oral health knowledge of the 12-years-old children in the rural and urban area of the city of Cimahi.
