Contribution of professor Oleg N. Trofimov to the concept of physical education development in the pharmaceutical education system

The biographical sketch is dedicated to Professor Oleg Nikolaevich Trofimov (1927–2013), PhD in Pedagogic Sciences, who headed the Department of Physical Education at the Leningrad Institute Chemical Pharmaceuticals from 1973 to 1995. The main stages of O. N. Trofimov’s professional activity corresponded to the general context of the development of priority areas of physical education in the system of secondary and higher education. O. N. Trofimov skillfully combined managerial activities with research and educational-methodological work. He made a significant contribution to the development of the health-improving direction of physical education at the university, to the organization and conduct of research aimed at solving the problems of improving health and increasing the physical fitness of students. The scientific activity of O. N. Trofimov was devoted to the theory and methods of physical education, issues of physical development, the development of comprehensive training programs in vocational-applied physical training and additional public specialty within the framework of the Faculty of Public Professions. The results of the research carried out at the department were widely introduced into the educational process of physical education and served as the basis for the development of innovative technologies for constructing the educational process in the discipline “Elective physical culture: recreational physical education”, as well as the program for the development of physical culture and sports, the formation of a healthy lifestyle at the Saint Petersburg Chemical and Pharmaceutical University. O. N. Trofimov was a war veteran, awarded government awards, including the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad”. The essay uses archival data, bibliographic publications, specialized journals and collections of materials from scientific and methodological conferences, materials from the department and the personal archives of O. N. Trofimov.

A Collision of Narratives: Archives of Ivan Kliun in the Collections of Nikolai Khardzhiev and George Costakis

Abstract The article explores the remarkable fate of the personal archive of Ivan Kliun (1873–1943), an important representative of experimental modern art from early twentieth-century Russia. His case presents a rare scenario where the artist’s archive fell into the hands of the era’s two most prominent collectors, who held starkly contrasting views on his art. While George Costakis (1913–1990) highly appreciated Kliun’s talent and built a comprehensive collection that included both his artworks and archival materials, Nikolai Khardzhiev (1903–1996) considered Kliun a mere epigone of Kazimir Malevich. By examining the collectors’ choices through the lens proposed by Jacques Derrida in his book “Archive Fever: A Freudian Impression,” the present article delves into the collision of the narratives that molded the historiography of Kliun’s work.

Evaluating Severe Therapy-Resistant Asthma in Children: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Strategies

Introduction: Worldwide, asthma is the most common non-communicable respiratory disease and causes considerable morbidity and mortality. Most people with asthma can be treated effectively with low-dose medications if these are taken correctly and regularly. Around 10% of people with asthma have an uncontrolled form of the disease or can only achieve control with high-dose medications, incurring disproportionately high health care costs. Areas Covered: PubMed and personal archives were searched for relevant articles on the definition, management and pharmacotherapy of severe asthma. The WHO classification of severe asthma and the treatment levels encompassed in the definition are discussed. Most children and young people referred for consideration of ‘beyond-guidelines therapy’ can in fact be managed on standard treatment after a multi-disciplinary team assessment focusing on ensuring correct basic management, and these steps are described in detail. Options for those with true therapy-resistant asthma are described. These include monoclonal antibodies, most of which target type 2 inflammation. Expert Opinion: Getting the basics right is still the most important aspect of asthma care. For those with severe, therapy-resistant asthma, an increasing number of life-transforming monoclonals have been developed, but there is still little understanding of, and a paucity of treatment options for, non-eosinophilic asthma.

“We Know Little About the Early Bryusov...”: The Work of the Poet-Symbolist as Reflected in the Scholarly Heritage of N. K. Gudziy

The article attempts to talk about that part of the scholarly heritage of the literary historian, textual critic, teacher N.K. Gudziy, which is dedicated to the work of the poet, prose writer, literary critic, translator, public figure V.Ya. Bryusov. Based on unpublished archival materials, printed works, materials from Gudziy’s personal archive and correspondence, the scholar’s contribution to the development of domestic “Bruce studies” is characterized, and the main circumstances that influenced the formation of his reading and research interest in this topic are identified. In addition, the background to the birth of Gudziy’s main scholarly works, dedicated to Bryusov and the early stage of the formation of Russian symbolism, is presented, and the scholar’s active work at the 2nd Moscow State University, the State Academy of Artistic Sciences, and the “Circle in Memory of Valery Bryusov” is considered from the point of view of the researcher’s movement towards chosen topic and object of critical interest. The presented materials allow us to trace the fate of several research subjects – the history of early Russian symbolism, Bryusov’s youthful creativity, the change of his creative and critical interests, the role of the literary environment in the poet's life – from their birth and systematization of archival materials to printed embodiment.

Enhancing Cancer Supportive Care: Integrating Psychosocial Support, Nutrition, and Physical Activity Using Telehealth Solutions.

This review explores current guidelines for integrating psychosocial support, nutrition, and physical activity into cancer care and examines the resources available to deliver comprehensive care effectively and equitably, with a focus on telehealth solutions. A review of current guidelines related to psychosocial support, nutrition, and exercise in oncology published between the years 2020 and 2024 was conducted. Additionally, relevant articles from the authors' personal archives were included. Current guidelines emphasize routine psychosocial distress screening, nutritional assessment, and tailored physical activity interventions for patients with cancer. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network and ASCO highlight the need for regular psychosocial evaluations and the management of common psychiatric disorders. The American Cancer Society and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommend nutritional screening, personalized counseling, and exercise to improve treatment tolerance and overall quality of life. Despite these recommendations, challenges such as resource limitations, time constraints, and financial barriers hinder their implementation. Integrating psychosocial support, medical nutrition therapy, and physical activity into cancer care is essential to enhancing patients' quality of life. Telehealth offers a viable solution to overcome barriers by providing remote access to supportive services, facilitating comprehensive care, and promoting patient engagement. The effectiveness of telehealth in delivering psychosocial, nutritional, and physical activity support highlights its potential to improve patient outcomes and overcome barriers to care. Telehealth technologies hold high potential to optimize cancer care delivery, ensuring personalized support for patients throughout their cancer journey.

A Foam of Blocks: Lawrence Halprin’s Architectural Language:A Crossing through the Venetian Wilderness: Architectures 1979-1999

This paper is part of a bigger study on Lawrence Halprin, conducted through the analysis of his personal archives present at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and the Seattle’s City archives, together with trips and dedicated surveys for some of his projects. Many of Halprin’s urban projects are culturally linked to the 60s and 70s: the assassination of Martin Luther king Jr in Memphis and of Robert Kennedy in Los Angeles, the student protests against the Vietnam War, and the subsequent occupying of university campuses, and the violent clashes between protesters and the police. Yet as public space became the stage for confrontation in many American cities, Halprin’s open space projects seemed to encourage a different type of use: joyful playfulness, performance, dace. Many of his designs in fact, were developed with the idea of performance in mind, not surprising, as Halprin’s wife, Anna Halprin, was an important contemporary dancer and choreographer with whom he collaborated often, as well as one of his collaborators, Angela Danadjieva, a former designer of constructivist-inspired sets for Bulgarian state films. Larger urban renewal interventions were also fueled by the Federal Housing Act of 1949 that encouraged “slum removal”, inner cities-neighborhoods deemed beyond repair, and the “Federal-Aid Highway Act” of 1968, that encouraged the construction of superhighways to increase connectivity between cities and states. What appeared simply radical, is the fundamentally traditional idea of designing public spaces within the city with the deliberate intention for them to be beautiful and pleasurably utilized by the surrounding communities. These ideas had simply been replaced by design principles developed for the car, like multi lane roads, parking lots, shopping centers, drive thrus, etc.... The significance of these spaces can be seen for example in the Portland sequence – “Lovejoy Fountain, Pettygrove Park, and Forecourt (later renamed Ira Keller) Fountain, along with the lesser-known Source Fountain – represented a new kind of urban plaza, a grandly sculptural, metaphorical experience of nature that welcomed an activity largely absent from the midcentury American downtown: play”. Skyline park in Denver, project that linked together three downtown blocks also encouraged play though the creation of metaphorical high-mountain cascades, canyons and open fields, designed through a series of fractured geometries of blocks and water basins for fountains. The presence of water features is a constant in Halprin’s designs, inspired by the wet and dry environments of the High Sierra. In fact, Halprin believed that only with flowing water can true beauty be achieved. This is very visible in all of his fountains but perhaps particularly in Seattle’s Freeway Park, where the water cascades, with their loud roaring manage to drown out the sounds of the adjacent freeway. His fountains are actual pieces of wilderness, geometrically mutated and transplanted into the city that with their glittering and static effects, without any type of barrier, effectively invite active participation, and encourage human activities like splashing, climbing, crawling, bathing, contemplating... In a cultural context that seemed to promote separation and isolation between different parts of established cities, Lawrence Halprin, with small or large commissions in Portland, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle attempted (and in many ways succeeded) to create connections on the small, urban, human scale. By the 1990s, Halprin’s blend of nature, theater and urbanism would be established in a growing collection of plazas, and parks that, in each case, set the stage for major new public spaces.

History of Educational Migration in Georgia: From Ancient Times to the Soviet Period

Aim. The problem of “brain drain” is currently very relevant for Georgia. It is a fact that, despite the country’s low economic development, the number of people wishing to obtain higher education abroad has grown rapidly. This process often leads to permanent migration thus reducing the intellectual and labour potential of the country. Our goal was to find out whether this event also took place in Georgia in the historical past and how our ancestors managed it. Methods. The present work is based on historical documents, some of which were found by the author in the personal archives of Georgian scientists. Results. The research has revealed that educational migration is not new to Georgia. For thousands of years it has been both organised and unorganised in nature. It has been established that still in early 1900s, educational migration was studied in Georgia under the leadership of Prof. Ivane Javakhishvili. This allowed us to identify the geographical area and professional interests of those who went to study abroad. Conclusion. It was also established that against the backdrop of incessant wars that continued for hundreds of years, educational migration has contributed to the preservation of a more or less stable regime of social and cultural development of the country.

Organizer of biological science: to the 100th anniversary of P. A. Lehr’s birth

2023 marks the 100th anniversary of Pavel Andreyevich Lehr’s birth (09.27.1923–09.15.2005). He was an outstanding Soviet scientist, a leading expert on dipteran insects, a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences, director of the Institute of Biology and Soil Science of the Far Eastern Scientifi c Center/Far Eastern Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences during 1981–1991. The article highlights the contribution of P. A. Lehr to the organization and development of biological research in the Far Eastern region between 1988 and 1991, when he was deputy chairman of the Presidium of the Far Eastern Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. At the same time, Lehr led a temporary creative team to develop the Environmental Program of Primorsky Krai, which he managed to bring to completion and offi cial approval during the collapse of the USSR. Unique documents from the Archive of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the personal archive of the author are presented.

USA CIA activity in the western part of USSR. Declissified archives and possibilities to research history of post war Lithuania

Since the beginning of the guerrilla fights, since the Atlantic Charter, there has been a general belief that ‘America supports us’. Although the operations of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) were classified as ‘secret’, the facts of cooperation with the secret services of Europe and the United States were well-known in the relevant circles of the diaspora. Although the CIA operations were a well-known fact from the very beginning, there is almost no information in Lithuanian historiography about their nature, specifics and details. The reconstruction of the resistance organisations’ links or cooperation with the Western secret services has so far mainly relied on two groups of sources: the personal archives of diaspora figures and, to some extent, the documents of Soviet repressive structures. There is almost nothing about US military plans or preparations for war, although there are various considerations of ‘war hopes’, ‘high’ or ‘futile’, sometimes equivalent to the terminology of the ‘war myth’.

Troubles and satisfactions of a valiant librarian: new documentation about Guerriera Guerrieri from her personal archival file preserved at the Central State Archive

Guerriera Guerrieri is a protagonist of the Italian cultural history of the last century, remembered for the intensity of her work and for the multiplicity of initiatives and actions that characterized her professional activity as a librarian and which still allow us today to remember her as a figure of absolute importance in Italy; among these, the development of cataloging rules, the cataloging of periodicals and the diffusion of books and reading, activities which he carried out with an awareness not only about librarianship, but also about cultural and bibliographical aspects. Guerrieri's professional and personal life, however, was not simply dotted with satisfactions and successes, but the war, some family deaths, the instability of a residence, and envy and slander exacerbated by the fact that she was a capable and esteemed woman in her own environment, forced her to resist tenaciously until she was discharged from service. To the analysis and contextualization of the information already known, this essay adds the critical presentation of others documents from the numerous documents contained in his personal file preserved in Rome at the Central State Archive.

The article discusses the friendship and creative connections between the famous representatives of Russian culture — painter Natalya Nesterova and composer David Krivitsky. The relevance of the topic is connected with Nesterova’s 80th birthday anniversary the world is celebrating. This is a reason to draw attention to the fact that at the moment there is an extremely limited number of scientific works devoted to her heritage. This article for the first time publishes some unknown facts from her artist’s biography and presents her pictures from the composer’s personal archive. The research perspective is to reveal the significance of musical art and performance for N.I. Nesterova and to show the originality of her approach to depicting musicians and the intended symbolic meaning in her paintings with musical subjects. As an exceptional case, the article describes her activities as an illustrator for the music editions of the composer D.I. Krivitsky. It can be concluded that communication between the two bright creative personalities had a mutual influence and served as an impetus for the emergence of interesting works of art.

An enlightened aristocrat at the crossroads of countries and languages

This paper focuses on the personality of an important aristocrat from the Age of Enlightenment, Ignác Dominik Chorynský, as a person living and acting on the border of countries and languages, creating an extensive network of social and intellectual contacts around him. The vast personal archive of this nobleman conserved in Opava still awaits closer examination. Ignác Dominik Chorynský, a member of an old Moravian family, settled after 1750 in Velké Hoštice under Prussian domination, due to his marriage to Countess Barbora Hodic, while also being active in Opava, on Austrian territory. This paper examines the “frontier” position of Ignác Dominik from several aspects. The first is from the political aspect: the count was a subject of the King of Prussia and, at the same time, a regional governor in the Prussian and Austrian parts of Opava, still subordinate to the House of Habsburg. Moreover, his brother Jan Nepomuk fell in the Seven Years’ War against Prussia. Obviously, the position on the border also played a role in the representation of the count, as evidenced by the “Banquet Hall of Three Lands”, which he had built in Velké Hoštice. In the following portion, this paper presents Ignác Dominik’s wide network of contacts: amongst the local nobility in Silesia, amongst actors on the Prussian side (Frederick II, the nobles and intellectuals of Wrocław), and in Moravia (his brothers Matyáš and František Jan, Count Mittrowsky, etc.). This paper then delves into the theme of artistic transfers, as Ignác Dominik contributed to the cultural development of his region with his activities (building the castle in Velké Hoštice, rebuilding the so-called “Blücher Palace” in Opava, collecting works of art, etc.). Finally, this paper focuses on the possible role of Silesian and Prussian milieu on Ignác Dominik’s cultural activities. This paper also demonstrates the unique position of the Opava and Hlučín regions after the Wars of Austrian Succession and the imminent role of Ignác Dominik and his close friends in the cultural development of the region.

Library and Bibliographic Classifications of Art Literature in the Documents of the M.I. Fabrikant Archive

The professional art history interests of professor M.I. Fabrikant (1887—1966) in the field of book studies, bibliography, library and museum studies are reflected in the documents of his personal archive in the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts of the Scientific Library of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. Based on his extensive experience, the scientist drafted in the 1920s a scientific classification of art literature. In addition, working in the 1930s in the scientific libraries of major Moscow museums (the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the State Tretyakov Gallery), he drafted the structures of branch catalogues. M.I. Fabrikant also participated as a consultant in the development of projects for the organisation of departments and catalogues in the new building of the Lenin State Library of the USSR in 1936.

Fragments of affinity: Photographic archives and the material performance of personhood in a zongo community of Ghana

In Accra's migrant neighbourhoods called zongos, personal photo archives are carefully kept in plastic bags or albums, revealing the migratory biographies of living and late family members and the various social activities in which they engage. This paper unpacks the archives of three women in the zongos, interweaving the indexical values of the photographs with an analysis of their material historicity of exchange and haptic encounters. I argue that in the collections, fragments of the zongo women's personhood are both materially and ontologically diffracted, as such performing personhood in line with gendered zongo grammars and values of extended networks of affiliation, affect, and generosity. Such performance is controlled by the owners of the collections, thus creating openings for self-representation and social mobility, but also for contesting gendered grammars.

Constitution of the "Kolo" Ensemble and Choreography of Traditional Dance – Anthropological Interpretation and Socio-Political Context

The Ensemble of Folk Dances and Songs of Serbia "Kolo" was founded in 1948 in Belgrade, on the initiative of the Committee for Culture and Art of the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia. The task of the Ensemble was to artistically interpret and present the so-called folk artistic creativity, which predominantly encompassed various folklore creations of the rural population, on stage, in the country and abroad. Although seemingly simple and folk-oriented, the art of traditional dance choreography has clear ideological and politically important messages of the then state leadership embedded in it foundations, intended to be spread among the Yugoslavs, but also beyond the state borders. The ensemble was supposed to present a desirable and appropriate image of Yugoslavia in its performances. The aim of this paper is to reconstruct the formation of the “Kolo” Ensemble and the process of constituting the art of traditional dance choreography, taking into account the socio-political and historical context of the Second Yugoslavia. In addition, the paper approaches the deconstruction of the intention of choreographers and artistic directors, in order to reveal the ideological messages embedded in the artistic expression. The basic assumption in this paper is that dance troupes and traditional dance choreographies are strongly connected to the ideology and cultural policy of the nation-state. In this regard, even when choreographers and artistic directors create programs without direct political-ideological objectives, their decisions always rely on the socio-political context and the dominant ideologies within the state. The theoretical framework of the work is based on contemporary anthropological discussions about the concepts crucial for the interpretation of the material, primarily referring to the concept of ideology, understood in the Althusserian sense, but also to the ideas of the combination of state ideology, cultural policy, and dance with the aim of presenting the dance troupe with a desirable image of the nation-state. The methodology of the work consists of a combination of two approaches: classical anthropological, qualitative and archival research. Qualitative research includes conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with 15 dancers who worked in "Kolo" in different time contexts, while archival research included reviewing the documentation of the "Kolo" Ensemble, the Archives of Yugoslavia and the personal and family archives of the dancers.

La transmission écrite de la pratique du « débriefing francophone » depuis sa naissance jusqu’à nos jours

BackgroundFor the very reason we are talking about it, there is such a thing as “French débriefing”. But what is, or are, its precise and consensual definition(s)? What are the origins of this form of débriefing and, more importantly, how has it evolved to the present day? How have the conceptual notions it covers developed? What are its practical processes and the therapeutic mechanisms used to specifically deal with trauma and its clinical consequences? And finally, are there any scientific studies that evaluate the effectiveness of this framework for treatment? Although the majority of psychologists and psychiatrists alike are not well-versed in the sciences of language, they never-the-less provide an unprecedented arena for reflection. In this article, we present a linguistic analysis of the body of scientific papers which, over three decades, inspired the inception and subsequent evolution of what we still call today “French débriefing”. Materials and methodsWe identified French-language articles published in medical and psychological journals between 1990 and 2019 by entering the keyword “débriefing” in five search engines (PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, PsycInfo, Ascodocpsy) as well as in the thesauri of the interuniversity library of medicine of Paris and the central library of the French army health service. This bibliography was supplemented by consulting the personal archives of two general medical officers, former heads of military psychiatric services, then further increased on the basis of the references cited in the primary works selected. After a complete reading, only those publications that contained a mention of “French débriefing” of more than 100 words were finally retained. The extracted data combines the number of papers per year of publication, journals, authors (research team, place of practice). The titles, abstracts and the full texts of the articles were converted to HTML format to allow examination by three discourse analysis software programs. ResultsOver three decades, 122 papers focus on French débriefing, or an average of just over four per year. Articles devoted to conceptualization account for almost a third of the total, equivalent to those dealing with practice in real-life situations ; generalist and organizational areas appear to be over-represented compared to scientific studies. We emphasize the presence of three articles dedicated to ethics (in 2004 and 2009). Only one work focuses on educational transmission using an original healthcare simulation method (2016). We have summarized the consensual organization of débriefing in French as well as its practical application. The number of papers dealing specifically with therapeutic mechanisms corresponds to less than 10 % of the selected references and can be summarized in fewer than twenty proposals that we cite. DiscussionThe question of transmission, whether verbal or written, takes on a singular meaning in the field of the treatment of psychological trauma, disorders that by their very nature are marked by indescribability. How can the practitioner demonstrate knowledge of the unrepresentable? Publications in specialized journals provide us with information about the evolution of the state of the art - or at least what the authors say about it - and the transmission of knowledge with the aim, ultimately, of being useful to field practice. But as we have highlighted, the theoretical language on trauma risks, in itself, in its lexico-semantic, syntactic and pragmatic structure, carrying the very traumatic symptoms that it wishes to treat! Perhaps this is the reason for the absence of sufficiently scientific studies that make it possible to precisely evaluate the practice of French débriefing and in particular to highlight its therapeutic mechanisms? ConclusionWriting remains a major vector for the transmission of knowledge, but this writing, like the study of it, necessarily evolves as a function of societal context, on the one hand, and must be confronted with other sources of knowledge, particularly oral, on the other hand. The literature corpus analysis methodology that we have carried out will soon be superseded by the possibilities of automatic language analysis developed by artificial intelligence. Beyond the analysis of theoretical corpora, contemporary psycholinguistics also offers us the possibility of identifying, in patients’ discourse, diagnostic linguomarkers that are more sensitive and specific than metric scales or structured interviews based on international classifications. New psycholinguistic entities are likely to emerge, such as the “Traumatic Psycholinguistic Syndrome”, which accounts for trauma by studying the lexico-semantic, syntactic and pragmatic dimensions of the language of mentally afflicted patients. In order to help diagnose and monitor the evolution of symptoms, software already exists that is capable of analyzing the patient's speech in real time during consultations! While confronting us with dizzying anthropological questions, this will lead us to better identify psychological suffering as well as to better understand effective psychotherapeutic mechanisms.

The Great Patriotic War in the Diary Entries of Siberians: the Analysis of Ego-Document Corpus

The purpose of the article is to characterize the documentary stream (DS) of front-line diaries publications of Siberians – participants in the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945). The article shows the place of diaries in source studies and the importance of diary entries for the study of anthropological content and “psychology of war”. It grounds the reasons for the paucity of front-line diaries in comparison with other types of egodocuments (memoirs, letters). For the first time, the documentary stream, consisting of 40 publications of diaries (and about diaries) of Siberians, was identified and completely studied: bibliometric indicators and content characteristics were presented; sites containing full texts of diaries (or their fragments) were identified and their significance was assessed; diaries storage locations were determined.The studied DS provided information about the diaries of 28 Siberians – the ordinary war participants who, for the most part, had civilian professions in the peacetime. An assessment was given to the site “Prozhito”, realizing the project to collect full texts; the need to preserve full texts of diaries was grounded: to identify diaries stored in personal or family archives and transfer them (or copies of them) to state museums and archives; the importance of studying ego-documents about the Great Patriotic War for the goals of education and ­patriotic training was emphasized.

Handwritten Materials in Japanese from O.O. Rosenberg’s Personal Archive Kept at the IOM, RAS

This article introduces several handwritten materials in Japanese from the personal archive of O.O. Rosenberg (1888–1919) now kept at the Archive of Orientalists, IOM, RAS. These handwritten texts reveal new details about O.O. Rosenberg’s interaction with Japanese Buddhist scholars and publishers before and after the publication of his two dictionaries in 1916 in Japan. In addition to academic activities, O.O. Rosenberg had to deal with financial and legal matters, maintained contacts with printing company staff, discussed various diplomatic procedures. He also had a wide network of contacts in Japan, including other foreigners. Relying on this network and his fluent knowledge of Japanese, handwritten Japanese in particular, O.O. Rosenberg was able to complete his publication projects successfully. This study presents O.O. Rosenberg’s dictionaries as an important component of the project led by Th.I. Stcherbatsky to restore the terminology of Sanskrit philosophical treatises. Future work plans outlined by the young scholar demonstrate his exceptional diligence and competence in matters of Oriental philology. All documents, translated from Japanese by A. Lushchenko, are published for the first time.
