Revealing the Role of Organic Ligands in Deep-Blue-Emitting Colloidal Europium Bromide Perovskite Nanocrystals.

Europium halide perovskites are promising candidates for environmentally benign blue-light emitters with their narrow emission line width. However, the development of high-photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) colloidal europium halide perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) is hindered by limited synthetic methods and elusive reaction mechanisms. Here, we provide an effective synthetic route for achieving high-PLQY deep-blue-emitting colloidal CsEuBr3 PNCs. Using two Br-organic ligand precursors, oleylammonium bromide (OLAMHBr) and trioctylphosphine dibromide (TOPBr2), we identified distinct phase evolution routes involving Eu2+:CsBr, Cs4EuBr6, and CsEuBr3. The OLAMHBr precursor initially promotes the formation of the Eu2+:CsBr phase, which reorganizes into the CsEuBr3 perovskite phase via proton transfer. In contrast, the TOPBr2 precursor induces the formation of core/shell Cs4EuBr6/CsBr PNCs, which subsequently transform into CsEuBr3 through nucleophilic addition. The TOPBr2 route exhibited enhanced CsEuBr3 phase homogeneity, resulting in a significantly higher PLQY (40.5%; full width at half-maximum (fwhm) = 24 at 430 nm), compared to the OLAMHBr route (16.5% at 418 nm). Notably, the phase-pure CsEuBr3 PNCs demonstrated a world-record PLQY among the reported blue-emitting lead-free PNCs that exhibit a narrow emission line width (fwhm <25 nm). This work highlights the significant role of organic ligands in the colloidal synthesis of CsEuBr3 PNCs and their potential as nontoxic, solution-processable blue-light emitters.

Surface-binding molecular multipods strengthen the halide perovskite lattice and boost luminescence

Reducing the size of perovskite crystals to confine excitons and passivating surface defects has fueled a significant advance in the luminescence efficiency of perovskite light-emitting diodes (LEDs). However, the persistent gap between the optical limit of electroluminescence efficiency and the photoluminescence efficiency of colloidal perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs) suggests that defect passivation alone is not sufficient to achieve highly efficient colloidal PeNC-LEDs. Here, we present a materials approach to controlling the dynamic nature of the perovskite surface. Our experimental and theoretical studies reveal that conjugated molecular multipods (CMMs) adsorb onto the perovskite surface by multipodal hydrogen bonding and van der Waals interactions, strengthening the near-surface perovskite lattice and reducing ionic fluctuations which are related to nonradiative recombination. The CMM treatment strengthens the perovskite lattice and suppresses its dynamic disorder, resulting in a near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield of PeNC films and a high external quantum efficiency (26.1%) of PeNC-LED with pure green emission that matches the Rec.2020 color standard for next-generation vivid displays.

The future of quantum technologies: superfluorescence from solution-processed, tunable materials

Abstract One of the most significant and surprising recent developments in nanocrystal studies was the observation of superfluorescence from a system of self-assembled, colloidal perovskite nanocrystals [G. Rainò, M. A. Becker, M. I. Bodnarchuk, R. F. Mahrt, M. V. Kovalenko, and T. Stöferle, “Superfluorescence from lead halide perovskite quantum dot superlattices,” Nature, vol. 563, no. 7733, pp. 671–675, 2018]. Superfluorescence is a quantum-light property in which many dipoles spontaneously synchronize in phase to create a collective, synergistic photon emission with a much faster lifetime. Thus, it is surprising to observe this in more inhomogenous systems as solution-processed and colloidal structures typically suffer from high optical decoherence and non-homogeneous size distributions. Here we outline recent developments in the demonstration of superfluorescence in colloidal and solution-processed systems and explore the chemical and materials science opportunities allowed by such systems. The ability to create bright and tunable superfluorescent sources could enable transformative developments in quantum information applications and advance our understanding of quantum phenomena.

Nondestructive Direct Optical Patterning of Perovskite Nanocrystals with Carbene-Based Ligand Cross-Linkers.

Microscale patterning of colloidal perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) is essential for their integration in advanced device platforms, such as high-definition displays. However, perovskite NCs usually show degraded optical and/or electrical properties after patterning with existing approaches, posing a critical challenge for their optoelectronic applications. Here we achieve nondestructive, direct optical patterning of perovskite NCs with rationally designed carbene-based cross-linkers and demonstrate their applications in high-performance light-emitting diodes. We reveal that both the photochemical properties and the electronic structures of cross-linkers need to be carefully tailored to the material properties of perovskite NCs. This method produces high-resolution (∼4000 ppi) NC patterns with preserved photoluminescent quantum efficiencies and charge transport properties. Prototype light-emitting diodes with patterned/cross-linked NC layers show a maximum luminance of over 60000 cd m-2 and a peak external quantum efficiency of 16%, among the highest for patterned perovskite electroluminescent devices. Such a material-adapted patterning method enabled by designs from a photochemistry perspective could foster the applications of perovskite NCs in system-level electronic and optoelectronic devices.

Long live(d) CsPbBr3 superlattices: colloidal atomic layer deposition for structural stability.

Superlattice formation afforded by metal halide perovskite nanocrystals has been a phenomenon of interest due to the high structural order induced in these self-assemblies, an order that is influenced by the surface chemistry and particle morphology of the starting building block material. In this work, we report on the formation of superlattices from aluminum oxide shelled CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals where the oxide shell is grown by colloidal atomic layer deposition. We demonstrate that the structural stability of these superlattices is preserved over 25 days in an inert atmosphere and that colloidal atomic layer deposition on colloidal perovskite nanocrystals yields structural protection and an enhancement in photoluminescence quantum yields and radiative lifetimes as opposed to gas phase atomic layer deposition on pre-assembled superlattices or excess capping group addition. Structural analyses found that shelling resulted in smaller nanocrystals that form uniform supercrystals. These effects are in addition to the increasingly static capping group chemistry initiated where oleic acid is installed as a capping ligand directly on aluminum oxide. Together, these factors lead to fundamental observations that may influence future superlattice assembly design.

Controlled Synthesis of Lead-Free Double Perovskite Colloidal Nanocrystals for Nonvolatile Resistive Memory Devices.

Although lead-free double perovskites such as Cs2AgBiBr6 have been widely explored, they still remain a daunting challenge for the controlled synthesis of lead-free double perovskite nanocrystals with highly tunable morphology and band structure. Here, we report the controlled synthesis of lead-free double perovskite colloidal nanocrystals including Cs2AgBiBr6 and Cs2AgInxBi1-xBr6 via a facile wet-chemical synthesis method for the fabrication of high-performance nonvolatile resistive memory devices. Cs2AgBiBr6 colloidal nanocrystals with well-defined cuboidal, hexagonal, and triangular morphologies are synthesized through a facile wet-chemical approach by tuning the reaction temperature from 150 to 190 °C. Further incorporating indium into Cs2AgBiBr6 to synthesize alloyed Cs2AgInxBi1-xBr6 nanocrystals not only can induce the indirect-to-direct bandgap transition with enhanced photoluminescence but also can improve its structural stability. After optimizing the active layers and device structure, the fabricated Ag/polymethylene acrylate@Cs2AgIn0.25Bi0.75Br6/ITO resistive memory device exhibits a low power consumption (the operating voltage is ∼0.17 V), excellent cycling stability (>10 000 cycles), and good synaptic property. Our study would enable the facile wet-chemical synthesis of lead-free double perovskite colloidal nanocrystals in a highly controllable manner for the development of high-performance resistive memory devices.

Achieving Enhanced Visible-Near-Infrared Light Absorption in Stable Lead-Free Vanadium-Based Perovskite Nanocrystals via Structural Regulation.

Lead-free halide perovskites are promising materials for solar energy applications. However, their efficiency is hindered by poor light absorption in the visible-near-infrared region. Herein, we introduce vanadium (V) with low-lying ground/excited-state energy levels to form two types of stable lead-free V-based perovskite (Cs2NaVCl6 and Cs3V2Cl9) colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) with strong light absorption covering the ultraviolet to near-infrared region. We find the absorption can be further enhanced by structural regulation, in which the zero-dimensional (0D) Cs3V2Cl9 NCs show stronger and red-shifted (up to 1400 nm) light absorption compared to the three-dimensional Cs2NaVCl6 NCs. In 0D Cs3V2Cl9 NCs, [V2Cl9]3- dimers play a vital role in governing strong visible-near-infrared light absorption. We demonstrated their application for photocatalytic CO2 reduction. Our work sheds light on the structure-property relationship governing the absorption behavior, providing a novel route for tuning the light absorption ability of lead-free halide perovskites.

Halide Ion Mixing across Colloidal 2D Ruddlesden-Popper Perovskites: Implication of Spacer Ligand on Mixing Kinetics.

Halide ion exchange seen in metal halide perovskites provide a substantial opportunity to control their halide composition and corresponding optoelectronic properties. Halide ion mixing across colloidal 3D perovskite nanocrystals have been extensively studied while the mixing within colloidal 2D counterparts remain underexplored. In this study, the halide ion exchange kinetics across colloidally stable 2D Ruddlesden-Popper layered bromide (Br) and iodide (I) perovskites using two different spacer ligands such as aromatic phenethylammonium (PEA) versus linear butyammonium (BA) is demonstrated. The halide exchange kinetic rate constant (k), as determined by tracking time-dependent absorbance changes, indicates that Br/I halide mixing in 2D PEA-based perovskites (2.7 × 10-3 min-1 ) occurs at an order of magnitude slower than in 2D BA-based perovskites (3.3 × 10-2 min-1 ). Concentration (≈1mM to 100mM) and temperature-dependent (50 to 80 °C) kinetic studies further allow for the determination of activation barrier for halide ion mixing across the 2D layered perovskites with 75.2 ± 4.4kJ mol-1 (2D PEA) and 57.8 ± 7.8kJ mol-1 (2D BA), respectively. The activation energy reveals that the type of spacer cations plays a crucial role in controlling the halide ion mobility and halide stability due mainly to the internal ligand chemical interaction within 2D structures.

Synthesis of Layered Lead-Free Perovskite Nanocrystals with Precise Size and Shape Control and Their Photocatalytic Activity.

Halide perovskites have attracted enormous attention due to their potential applications in optoelectronics and photocatalysis. However, concerns over their instability, toxicity, and unsatisfactory efficiency have necessitated the development of lead-free all-inorganic halide perovskites. A major challenge in designing efficient halide perovskites for practical applications is the lack of effective methods for producing nanocrystals with precise size and shape control. In this work, a layered perovskite, Cs4ZnSb2Cl12 (CZS), is found from calculations to exhibit size- and facet-dependent optoelectronic properties in the nanoscale, and thus, a colloidal method is used to synthesize the CZS nanoparticles with size-tunable morphologies: zero- (nanodots), one- (nanowires and nanorods), two- (nanoplates), and three-dimensional (nanopolyhedra). The growth kinetics of the CZS nanostructures, along with the effects of surface ligands, reaction temperature, and time were investigated. The optoelectronic properties of the nanocrystals varied with size due to quantum confinement effects and with shape due to anisotropy within the crystals and the exposure of specific facets. These properties could be modulated to enhance the visible-light photocatalytic performance for toluene oxidation. In particular, the 9.7 nm CZS nanoplates displayed a toluene to benzaldehyde conversion rate of 1893 μmol g-1 h-1 (95% selectivity), 500 times higher than the bulk synthesized CZS, and comparable with the reported photocatalysts. This study demonstrates the integration of theoretical calculations and synthesis, revealing an approach to the design and fabrication of novel, high-performance colloidal perovskite nanocrystals for optoelectronic and photocatalytic applications.

Exceeding 100 µs Charge Carrier Separation in Perovskite Mediated by Rhodamine 6G

AbstractHalide perovskite colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) have enabled considerable progress in light conversion applications. However, the presence of unavoidable defect states and phase transition effects can accelerate undesirable rapid charge recombination of the photogenerated charge carriers. To address this issue, chromophores with an anchoring moiety are often used to modify the surface of the NCs, promoting prolonged charge separation through electron or energy transfer processes for optoelectronic applications. Here, steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopy methods are combined with density functional theory (DFT) calculations to explore and decipher the excited‐state interaction in colloidal CsPbX3 (X = Br, I) NCs with a rhodamine 6G (Rh6G) hybrid assembly. The results show that Rh6G dimerizes even at low concentrations, as evidenced by DFT calculations. The binding of Rh6G on the NC surface is confirmed by FTIR and NMR spectroscopy techniques. In addition, transient absorption spectroscopy reveals directional sub‐ps electron transfer from Rh6G to CsPbI3 NCs, whereas energy transfer occurs from CsPbBr3 to Rh6G, which ultimately recombines in the µs time regime. The findings highlight the simplest and most practical approaches for studying and tailoring the excited‐state interaction in colloidal perovskite NCs and chromophore assembly.

Overcoming Charge Confinement in Perovskite Nanocrystal Solar Cells.

The small nanoparticle size and long-chain ligands in colloidal metal halide perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) cause charge confinement, which impedes exciton dissociation and carrier extraction in PeQD solar cells, so they have low short-circuit current density Jsc , which impedes further increases in their power conversion efficiency (PCE). Here, a re-assembling process (RP) is developed for perovskite nanocrystalline (PeNC) films made of colloidal perovskite nanocrystals to increase Jsc in PeNC solar cells. The RP of PeNC films increases their crystallite size and eliminates long-chain ligands, and thereby overcomes the charge confinement in PeNC films. These changes facilitate exciton dissociation and increase carrier extraction in PeNC solar cells. By use of this method, the gradient-bandgap PeNC solar cells achieve a Jsc = 19.30mA cm-2 without compromising the photovoltage, and yield a high PCE of 16.46% with negligible hysteresis and good stability. This work provides a new strategy to process PeNC films and pave the way for high performance PeNC optoelectronic devices.

Separating Crystal Growth from Nucleation Enables the in-situ-controllable Synthesis of Nanocrystals for Efficient Perovskite Light-emitting Diodes.

Colloidal perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) display bright luminescence for light-emitting diode (LED) applications; however, they require post-synthesis ligand exchange that may cause surface degradation and defect formation. In-situ-formed PNCs achieve improved surface passivation using a straightforward synthetic approach, but their LED performance in the green wavelength is not yet comparable with that of colloidal PNC devices. Here we find that the limitations of in-situ-formed PNCs stem from uncontrolled formation kinetics: conventional surface ligands confine perovskite nuclei but fail to delay crystal growth. We introduce a bifunctional carboxylic-acid-containing ammonium hydrobromide ligand that separates crystal growth from nucleation, leading to the formation of quantum-confined PNC solids exhibiting a narrow size distribution. Controlled crystallization is further coupled with defect passivation using deprotonated phosphinates, enabling improvements in photoluminescence quantum yield to near unity. We fabricate green LEDs with a maximum current efficiency of 109cd A-1 and average external quantum efficiency of 22.5% across 25 devices - exceeding the performance of colloidal PNC-based counterparts; We further document a 45.6-hour operating half-time for an unencapsulated device in N2 with an initial brightness of 100cd m-2 . Mechanistic Insight into the Precursor Chemistry of Cesium Tin Iodide Perovskite Nanocrystals

Colloidal tin halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) are of interest as an alternative to their lead-based counterparts. While some advancements have been achieved in their synthetic development, the reaction mechanism, especially the precursor chemistry, of tin halide perovskite NCs remains poorly understood. Here, using cesium tin iodide (CsSnI3) perovskite NCs as a model system, we report on the mechanistic insight into the precursor chemistry of tin-based perovskite NCs through a combination of infrared, mass spectrometry, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. We identify that the active intermediate complexes, polymeric alkanoate iodides that form via the reaction of the iodide source with oligomers present in the tin(II) carboxylates, play a key role in governing the reactivity of the tin iodide precursor, which leads to the variation in the size, size uniformity, and photoluminescence quantum yield of CsSnI3 NCs. Our work underscores the importance of understanding the precursor chemistry as a key parameter to design and synthesize tin halide perovskite NCs, which not only aids in their syntheses by design but also might benefit the fabrication of high-quality polycrystalline tin-based films.

Overcoming the Ambient Manufacturability-Performance Bottleneck in Perovskite Nanocrystal Emitters for Efficient Light-Emitting Diodes.

Colloidal perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have risen rapidly in luminescence efficiency and color purity. However, their high performance requires careful and complex pre-treatment of precursors and precise regulation of the reaction atmosphere; otherwise, their emission will be weak and broad. To overcome these limitations, we develop a facile ligand exchange method using a new type of bidentate ligand, which is obtained by reacting cheap sulfur with tributylphosphine (S-TBP). During ligand exchange, the double bond between P and S atoms breaks and a single bond is formed between them, after which S-TBP switches into a bidentate ligand and binds to a perovskite NC at two points. With short-chain S-TBP ligands that have high spatial position resistance, both NC spacing and surface ligand density can be reduced, thereby improving carrier injection and transport. On the NC surface after ligand exchange, halogen vacancies were substantially filled, leading to a PbSP (Pb, S, and P elements) component-dominated shell that greatly decreases trap density and enhances material stability. The resulting perovskite NCs are stable and bright with a photoluminescence quantum yield of ~96%, and an external quantumefficiency of 22%. Note that our ligand-exchange strategy remains effective even when scaling up, which should accelerate commercialization.

Controllable Anion Exchange on Perovskite Nanocrystal Solid-State Thin Films

Colloidal mixed-halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) with a tunable emission color possess great potential for optoelectronic applications. However, their emission color and wavelength often change after purification and thin film deposition steps. In this work, to circumvent the emission shift issue, we report a novel method to directly tune the emission wavelength through a controllable anion exchange process on perovskite NC solid-state thin films. Specifically, it is realized by using hydrofluoroethers as the chemically benign reaction media with an organic halogen reagent. Our study also demonstrates that the phenylphosphonic halide reagent-related hydrolysis reaction is the dominant mechanism of anion exchange. Based on the diversity of the halogen reagent, our anion-exchange approach shows good universality. Finally, as a proof of concept, colorful RGB light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are fabricated, which shows the promising potential of our controllable anion-exchange strategy on perovskite NC solid-state thin films and the compatibility with optoelectronic device applications.

Investigating the interfacial properties of halide perovskite/TiOx heterostructures for versatile photocatalytic reactions under sunlight.

Heterostructures of metal halide perovskites and TiOx are efficient photocatalytic materials owing to the combination of the advantages of each compound, specifically the high absorption coefficients and long charge-carrier lifetimes of perovskites, and efficient photocatalytic activity of TiOx. However, chemical reduction of CO2 using PNC/TiOx heterostructures without organic solvents has not been reported yet. Here, we report the first solvent-free reduction of CO2 using amorphous TiOx with embedded colloidal perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs). The combination was obtained by carrying out hydrolysis of titanium butoxide (TBOT) on the PNC surface without high-temperature calcination. We proposed a mechanism involving photoexcited electrons being transferred from PNCs to TBOT, enabling photocatalytic reactions using TiOx under visible-light excitation. We demonstrated efficient visible-light-driven photocatalytic reactions at PNC/TiOx interfaces, specifically with a CO production rate of 30.43 μmol g-1 h-1 and accelerated degradation of organic pollutants under natural sunlight. Our work has provided a simple path toward both efficient CO2 reduction and photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes.

Weakening Ligand–Liquid Affinity to Suppress the Desorption of Surface-Passivated Ligands from Perovskite Nanocrystals

The interfacial migration of surface-bound ligands highly affects the colloidal stability and optical quality of semiconductor nanocrystals, of which the underlying mechanism is not fully understood. Herein, colloidal CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) with fragile dynamic equilibrium of ligands are taken as the examples to reveal the important role of balancing ligand-solid/solvent affinity in suppressing the desorption of ligands. As a micellar surfactant, glycyrrhizic acid (GA) with bulky hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups exhibits a relatively smaller diffusion coefficient (∼440 μm2/s in methanol) and weaker ligand-liquid affinity than that of conventional alkyl amine and carboxy ligands. Consequently, hydrophilic GA-passivated PNCs (PNCs-GA) show excellent colloidal stability in various polar solvents with dielectric constant ranging from 2.2 to 32.6 and efficient photoluminescence with a quantum yield of 85.3%. Due to the suppressed desorption of GA, the morphological and optical properties of PNCs-GA are well maintained after five rounds purification and two months long-term storage. At last, hydrophilic PNCs-GA are successfully patterned through inkjet- and screen-printing technology. These findings offer deep insights into the interfacial chemistry of colloidal NCs and provide a universal strategy for preparing high-quality hydrophilic PNCs.

Sensitization of ZnO Photoconductivity in the Visible Range by Colloidal Cesium Lead Halide Nanocrystals

In this work, colloidal perovskite nanocrystals (PNCs) are used to sensitize the photoconductivity of nanocrystalline ZnO films in the visible range. Nanocrystalline ZnO with a crystallite size of 12-16 nm was synthesized by precipitation of a zinc basic carbonate from an aqueous solution, followed by annealing at 300 °C. Perovskite oleic acid- and oleylamine-capped CsPbBr3, CsPb(Cl/Br)3 and CsPb(Br/I)3 PNCs with a size of 6-13 nm were synthesized by a hot injection method at 170 °C in 1-octadecene. Photoconductive nanocomposites were prepared by applying a hexane sol of PNCs to a thick (100 μm) polycrystalline conductive ZnO layer. The spectral dependence of the photoconductivity, the dependence of the photoconductivity on irradiation, and the relaxation of the photoconductivity of the obtained nanocomposites have been studied. Sensitization of ZnO by CsPbBr3 and CsPb(Cl/Br)3 PNCs leads to enhanced photoconductivity in the visible range, the maximum of which is observed at 460 and 500 nm, respectively; close to the absorption maximum of PNCs. Nanocomposites ZnO/CsPb(Br/I)3 turned out to be practically not photosensitive when irradiated with light in the visible range. The data obtained are discussed in terms of the position of the energy levels of ZnO and PNCs and the probable PNCs photodegradation. The structure, morphology, composition, and optical properties of the synthesized nanocrystals have also been studied by XRD, TEM, and XPS. The results can be applied to the creation of artificial neuromorphic systems in the visible optical range.

Red Perovskite Light‐Emitting Diodes: Recent Advances and Perspectives

AbstractMetal halide perovskite (MHP) materials have shown great advantages for the next‐generation optoelectronic devices, especially for light‐emitting diodes (LEDs), on account of their outstanding photoelectric properties and facile solution processability. However, the performances of red perovskite LEDs (PeLEDs) are not ready for commercialization, presumably due to the instability both of the emission spectra and operation conditions, and the toxicity of lead ions. In this review, the structures, physical properties, and preparation approaches of red emissive perovskite materials are first introduced, including 3D bulk perovskites, 2D and quasi‐2D perovskites, and colloidal perovskite nanocrystals (NCs). In addition, several strategies that contribute to the recent development and achievement of red PeLEDs are summarized in detail, mainly involving component engineering, dimension, and phase distribution modulation, ligand engineering, additive engineering, interfacial engineering, and strategies for the light out‐coupling device structure. Moreover, the challenges and corresponding solutions are discussed from three aspects of spectral stability, operational stability, and lead‐free red PeLEDs. Finally, the conclusion and outlook on the promising future of the red PeLEDs are raised.

Tunable photoluminescence and enhanced stability in two-dimensional (C3H7NH3)2(MA)n-1PbnBr3n+1 perovskite colloidal nanocrystals

In contrast with three-dimensional perovskites, their two-dimensional (2D) analogues have been demonstrated to effectively improve the moisture tolerance due to the hydrophobicity of the long-chain organic layers. However, the insulating property of the long-chain organic layers will deteriorate the charge transport properties of the materials, limiting their applications in photovoltaics and optoelectronics. Short-chain organic cation with less carbon atoms may be a good substitution for the preparation of 2D perovskites with superior environmental stability and optoelectronic properties. In this research, quasi-2D (C3H7NH3)2(MA)n-1PbnBr3n+1 perovskite nanocrystals with an average size smaller than 10 nm were synthesized by a one-pot method, showing tunable emissions in the range of 406–524 nm for n = 1∼∞, with corresponding band-gaps of 3.63–2.30 eV. Time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) decays show that (C3H7NH3)2PbBr4 has the shortest average PL lifetime of 4.4 ns with the fast decay process occupying weighting proportion of 87.3%. When the nominal perovskite layers increases up to 2–4, the average PL lifetime raises up to 10.1–41.7 ns, with the slow decay process taking up most weighting percentage of >70%. MAPbBr3 possesses the longest PL lifetime of 151.2 ns. The perovskite nanocrystals were then attempted to modify with oleic acid or to embed in PMMA matrix in order to improve their environmental stability. Results show that the stability of oleic acid and PMMA encapsulated nanocrystals improves greatly in comparison with bare nanocrystals.
