Examining the impact of stress and coping strategies on the performance of women entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs have important part in economic growth. Today, majority of the women have begun their own venture for reasons through the support of government subsidiaries and their own offering toward the business. Therefore, it is obvious that the entrepreneurs should do multidimensional task and significantly in a creative way so that they can operate their business for long time in the society. When operating business, women entrepreneurs experience many issues since they should balance business and family activities at the same time. In addition to current reviews, the present paper provides better knowledge about the issues undergone by them, which results in stress among the women entrepreneurs, how they are overcome with the stressful situation by adopting coping techniques. As per convenience sampling technique, the researcher had selected samples of the total women entrepreneurs in Tamil Nadu for achieving validity and reliability of the information collected. In each category various stressors chase them in their personal and professional life. Given that many of the respondents in their study have limited entrepreneurial experience, it is understandable that these gaps can lead to entrepreneurial stress. The authors also recommend that the high levels of stress associated with interpersonal relationships be addressed by identifying the causes of these stressors in the workplace. Women entrepreneurs adapt their coping strategies to the level of role conflict they experience, and these changes have different impacts on their success.

Performance of Women Entrepreneurs: Does Financial Literacy Really Matter?

Purpose: The aim of the research is to investigate the impact of financial literacy and its dimensions on the women entrepreneurial success. The focus of the study is on the women entrepreneurs of Pakistan and examines the relationship between the dimensions of financial literacy like financial management, saving, debt, insurance and investment literacy and the performance of the women run enterprise. The inclusion and participation of the women is a key indicator for the progress and development of a country.
 Design/Methodology/Approach: The study employs a quantitative approach where survey questionnaires were the primary research method employed to collect the data. Data was collected from 284 women entrepreneurs form the major metropolitan cities in Pakistan. These women were selected using purposive sampling and the data was then analysed using the partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) technique.
 Findings: The finding of the study suggests that the overall financial literacy level of women entrepreneurs is impacting the success and growth of their ventures. Moreover, all the dimensions of the financial literacy were positively and significantly related to the success.
 Implications/Originality/Value: This research advances the argument that the financial literacy is a contributing factor in the entrepreneurial success of the business.

Performance of Women Entrepreneurs in Birgunj, Nepal: A Comparative Study

This study is an empirical research of women entrepreneurs involved in the various industries in Birgunj, Nepal. Women Entrepreneurs of both registered and unregistered units are considered as respondents. Three entrepreneurial activities had considered as the study area of this research viz. manufacturing, trading and services. It concentrates only in micro and small enterprises run by women. In order to draw comparisons, researchers included a control group of male business owners. The criteria established by Lalitha Rani (1996) based on ratio of profit to total investment were used to measure the preference of entrepreneurs. Performance was classified as "Less than average," "Average," and "very successful." Comparative study and chi- squire test were carried out to see the association between performance and other independent variables. Exploratory and descriptive research had done through judgmental sampling; information was collected from 72 women entrepreneurs and 29 male entrepreneurs. This study applied cross sectional design under quantitative research methods. Result of performance analysis shows that performance and gender, training, and experience did not have any significant relationships; but, there were significant relationships between performance and activities and legal ownership.

The Role of Human Resource Competence and Entrepreneurial Motivation on the Performance of Women Entrepreneurs

This research aims to investigate the impact of human resource competence and entrepreneurial motivation on the performance of women entrepreneurs in the fashion industry of Klungkung Regency, Bali, Indonesia, specifically within micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). The study draws upon management theory, middle-range human resource theory, and applied theories related to human resource competence, motivation, and entrepreneurship. The research methodology employed is quantitative, using questionnaires as the primary data collection tool. The study involves a sample of 54 SME businesses, and data analysis is conducted using SPSS software version 24. Three hypotheses were tested in this research. The results indicate that the variable of human resource competence has a significant positive influence on entrepreneurial performance. Furthermore, human resource competence also has a significant positive effect on entrepreneurial motivation. The variable of entrepreneurial motivation also significantly influences entrepreneurial performance. However, it is noteworthy that the impact of human resource competence and entrepreneurial motivation on entrepreneurial performance is considered relatively modest.

 ABSTRAK
 Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki dampak kompetensi sumber daya manusia dan motivasi berwirausaha terhadap kinerja para pengusaha wanita di industri fashion Kabupaten Klungkung, Bali, Indonesia, khususnya dalam usaha mikro, kecil, dan menengah (UMKM). Studi ini mengacu pada teori manajemen, teori sumber daya manusia tingkat menengah, dan teori terapan terkait kompetensi sumber daya manusia, motivasi, dan kewirausahaan. Metodologi penelitian yang digunakan bersifat kuantitatif, dengan menggunakan kuesioner sebagai alat pengumpulan data utama. Studi ini melibatkan sampel dari 54 usaha UMKM, dan analisis data dilakukan menggunakan perangkat lunak SPSS versi 24. Tiga hipotesis diuji dalam penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa variabel kompetensi sumber daya manusia memiliki pengaruh positif yang signifikan terhadap kinerja berwirausaha. Selain itu, kompetensi sumber daya manusia juga memiliki pengaruh positif yang signifikan terhadap motivasi berwirausaha. Variabel motivasi berwirausaha juga berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja berwirausaha. Namun, perlu dicatat bahwa dampak kompetensi sumber daya manusia dan motivasi berwirausaha terhadap kinerja berwirausaha dianggap relatif sederhana

Women Entrepreneurship in Pakistan; Motivations, Success and Barriers a study on Sindh, Pakistan. An entrepreneur is someone who explores new opportunities, business, products/ services, or ideas (Kuratko 2016). During the early 1980s, the Women Entrepreneurship has elicited suitable recognition, especially as a driver of economic growth and development. According to Roomi and Parrott (2008), the women position throughout Pakistan is not homogenous. Cultural practices and norms related to role and status of women and religious prescriptions vary widely in the Pakistani society. Pakistani researchers have also critically examined existing literature on women entrepreneurship in Pakistan. Primary focus of this research study is about the very less work or no research evidence found in the province of Sindh, Pakistan on women entrepreneurship (Ashique, Najia, Ali, and Rajjar, 2012; Saad and Rajjar 2015). The data in this study is Primary, and involve gathering of research figures straight from the respondents using a structured 5-point Likert scale with the help of questionnaire based on women entrepreneurship. The population of the study consist of female entrepreneurs running businesses or involved in entrepreneurial activities from both urban and rural areas of Sindh. In this study, to ensure an adequate sample, data is collected from 150 respondents (female entrepreneurs). Regression method was used to analyze the data. This analysis is performed with the help of SPSS software. The current study uses the dependence model for testing the data because each hypothesis measures the impact of one independent variable on three dependent variables that is motivation, success and barriers women entrepreneurs face while becoming entrepreneurs. Result of this study suggests that 71% of the female are of age group 15-25 years, are energetic and most willing to start their own business, among all motivational factors including to be their own boss is having strongly positive impact to peruse entrepreneurship rather than regular job, among all success factors female entrepreneurs believed that having good managerial skills lead to successful business. Week economy and lack of laws regulations in the country is causing a huge barrier to begin their own business according to the responses of entrepreneurs belonging to female group. Furthermore, the study suggests that Government of Pakistan should propose business laws and ensure its practice in the small and medium size enterprises. Also, there are many programs offered by the Pakistani Government to promote entrepreneurship but female and nascent entrepreneurs are not aware of these programs at large. So, these programs should be introduced in all educational institutes and universities so that female entrepreneurs should get most of it.

The Economic and Socio-Cultural Factors Affecting Performance of Women Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh: An Exploratory Study on Cumilla City

This study was designed to assess the economic and socio-cultural factors that affect the performance of women entrepreneurs of Cumilla city as well as Bangladesh. It also addressed the characteristics of women entrepreneurs and the supports they acquire from the surroundings. A sample of 60 women entrepreneurs engaged in different sectors was taken for the study using stratified and simple random sampling. In the process of answering the basic questions, a questionnaire that include demographic profiles, characteristics of women entrepreneurs and their enterprises, factors that affect the performance of women entrepreneurs was designed in both open and closed ended questions. After the data has been collected, it was analyzed using simple statistical techniques (tables and percentages) and descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviations) and F-Test Two-Sample for Variances. In F-Test Two-Sample for Variances, P value is 0.035433248; which is less than 0.05 (P<0.05); which means that there is difference between variance of two factors in women entrepreneurship. The difference between the two variances is statistically significant. This condition indicates that the sample provides strong enough evidence to conclude that the variability in the two factors is different. F-Test Two-Sample for Variances analysis reveals that there is significant impact of economic and socio-cultural factors on women entrepreneurship The results of the study indicates the personal characteristics of women entrepreneurs which affect their performance .It also shows that lack of financial access, stiff competition, inadequate access to training, access to technology and access to raw materials are the key economic factors that affect the performance of women entrepreneurs. Based on the major findings, recommendations were suggested to existing and potential entrepreneurs, Micro finances and other institutions. Both the government organizations and private sector have a major responsibility to promote entrepreneurship development for women. Without their interventions the advancement of women and women entrepreneurship cannot be achieved.

Dual Role Conflict and Social Support on the Performance of Women Entrepreneurs with Disabilities During the Covid-19 Pandemic (An Initial Research)

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many female entrepreneurs are trying to maintain their household financial cycles from the businesses they own. Therefore, they need social support from their family and environment to maintain the business performance that they had built before the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is the initial research of a large umbrella of research with the topic of Analysis of the Effect of Multiple Role Conflicts on Performance Women Entrepreneurs During the COVID-19 Pandemic with Social Support as Moderating Variable. This study examines the picture of dual role conflict and social support on the performance of women entrepreneurs with disabilities during the Covid-19 pandemic. The outputs are expected to help women entrepreneurs with disabilities maintain their business performance by reducing dual role conflicts and getting social support from the surrounding environment. Data collection was carried out with a qualitative approach with snowball sampling which was taken through interviews with six selected respondents. The characteristics of the sample are: 1) Female: married and (was) married, has at least 1 child, 2) Have a business/entrepreneurship for at least the last 6 months, 3) People with hearing disabilities, and 4) Domiciled on the island of Java. Based on the results of the study, the effect of multiple roles on the performance of women entrepreneurs was slightly felt in families with children aged over 12 years, while housewives who had children under 12 years had a considerable influence. The performance of women entrepreneurs during the Covid-19 pandemic has increased, this is due to declining economic conditions. While forms of social support that help women entrepreneurs to maintain their performance as entrepreneurs during the Covid-19 pandemic are instrumental support, informational support, emotional support, and positive assessments obtained from family and friends. Social support is the main thing for women entrepreneurs to overcome dual role conflicts in their families, the social support they get comes from the family so that dual role conflicts in the family do not occur in women entrepreneurs.

Factors influencing Financial Performance of Rural Women Entrepreneurs in Northern Sri Lanka

The study is to determine and explore the factors which influence the Financial Performance of Rural Women Entrepreneurs in Kilinochchi District, Northern Province. Independent factors such as Family factors, Physiological factors, Managerial factors, learning factors, and Financial factors were considered. Performance of the Women Entrepreneurs is evaluated by the Financial Return (sales) of their businesses. Secondary objective of this Research Study is to measure the correlation between dependent variables and independent variables considered in every factor. Furthermore, Final data for the research were collected from 60 rural women entrepreneurs using systematic random methods. through questionnaires and by face-to-face interviews. The collected data were initially cleansed and coded, and then recorded quantitative data were analyzed by the software tool Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The results of the univariate analysis revealed how factors influence rural women entrepreneurs’ performance. Family factor, Physiological factor, Managerial factor, learning factor, and Financial factor mean values were 4.36, 3.91, 3.87, 4.00 and 3.75 respectively, it means factors are influencing the rural women entrepreneurs’ performance significantly. According to the correlation analysis, the relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variable is positive, but the strength between them has been different. Between family factors, it has a moderate relationship. While Physiological factors, Managerial factors, and Learning factors have a weak relationship, Financial factors have a strong relationship with the financial performance. So, the hypotheses were accepted based on the correlation analysis. Multiple regression analysis revealed that all the 05 factors have influenced 73% of the Performance (Financial Return) of rural women entrepreneurs. This study evaluates the women entrepreneur’s performance by financial return only.

Reasons for low patronage of microfinance banks by women entrepreneurs in nigeria

That microfinance banks are established to improve the socio-economic conditions of women especially in rural areas is a well-known fact, however in recent times, women entrepreneurs in Nigeria are no longer patronizing Microfinance banks like before. This calls for a research into factors responsible for low patronage of Microfinance banks by women entrepreneurs in South West Nigeria. The study employed Average Gross Turnover, Factor Analysis, Goodman and Kruskal’s gamma statistics to evaluate the effect of Microfinance banks on performance of women entrepreneurs and to determine the reasons for low patronage of Microfinance banks by women entrepreneurs. The result showed that weak but positive relationship exist between Microfinance banks and performance of women entrepreneurs. It was also observed that harsh loan recovery methods, high interest rates, short repayment periods and high charges imposed on customers are major reasons for low patronage of Microfinance banks by women entrepreneurs in Nigeria. It is recommended that Microfinance banks should reduce their interest rates drastically and lengthen the repayment periods so as to encourage women to patronize them more and to improve their performances.

The Effect of Social Capital on the Performance of Women Entrepreneurs

This study investigates the effect of social capital on the performance of women entrepreneurs. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire which was administered on women entrepreneurs. Data was analyzed using Pearson moment correlation and linear regression analyses. Findings revealed a strong and positive relationship between social capital and the performance of women entrepreneurs. Put in another way, every unit or 100% increase in social capital will lead to an increase of .315 or 31.5% increase in business performance. This implies that enterprise performance is not restricted to availability of human and financial capital, but the valuable information on markets, suppliers, and methods of operation availed by social capital creates an avenue for improved performance. It was recommended that financial institutions should create avenues through which women would interact and learn diverse business practices. Factors affecting the performance of women entrepreneurs in SMEs: a case study of Punjab, Pakistan

Women entrepreneurs play a vital role in the economic development of any country. However, certain factors that affect the performance of women entrepreneurs vary from culture to culture. The present study is an effort to examine and highlight those factors that have significant impact on the performance of women entrepreneurs and their characteristics in SMEs. Data is collected from 307 women entrepreneurs with response rate of approximately 83% using survey questionnaires. Data analysis is conducted through SPSS21.0 and AMOS 22. Results show that economic, social, and legal and administrative factors significantly affect the performance of women entrepreneurs. The present study will help women entrepreneurs to get knowledge about factors that may affect their performance. This study may help the government to increase the number of women entrepreneurs and encourage them to play their role in sustainable growth of economy by removing their economic, social and legal obstacles.

Performance of Women Entrepreneurs: Does Access to Finance Really Matter?

Bangladesh adopts labor intensive industrialization and inclusive finance strategy to fight against poverty. The strategies help the disadvantaged women empower and encourage doing something independently. But most of women entrepreneurs concentrated on major four types of businesses: parlor, boutique, clothing and fashion, which limit access to finance. The lack of access to finance was suspected to hamper their business growth. To understand such relationship, the descriptive as well as econometric tools and techniques were used. Durbin-Wu-Hausman test was used to test the endogeneity of the loan size. The test statistics suggest that the loan size is exogenous. Therefore, using the simple OLS method with various forms of error variances the regression results are estimated. Finally, the Feasible GLS method has been used to correct the heteroscedasticity problem. The result shows that the credit constraints and the credit size affect the monthly turnover of women entrepreneurs. The relaxation of credit constraint increases 6 percent monthly turnovers holding other things remaining same and so, it can be concluded that relaxing credit constraints improves business performance of women entrepreneurs.

Business-family interface and the performance of women entrepreneurs

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships between women entrepreneurs’ firm performance and two dimensions (enrichment and interference) of the business-family interface (BFI) in the moderating context of the level of economic development in two emerging countries – Morocco and Turkey. The enrichment perspective was operationalized as family instrumental (financial) and affective (moral) support, while interference was operationalized as gender-related personal problems.Design/methodology/approachThe study drew upon the work-family interface (WFI) theory from the family embeddedness perspective in the context of institutional economics. In Morocco, a purposive sample of 116 women entrepreneurs completed a self-administered questionnaire using field collection, mail, and phone surveying methods. In Turkey, 147 women entrepreneurs completed the questionnaire online and through personal contacts in business organizations.FindingsThe findings indicated a positive relationship of family financial support with business performance of female entrepreneurs in Morocco, a less economically advanced country. However, family moral support is related to better firm performance in Turkey, a more advanced economy. Gender-related personal problems of women entrepreneurs appear to hamper their business performance in Turkey; while in Morocco, the performance of women entrepreneurs seems to improve in the face of such impediments.Practical implicationsThe results provide initial evidence that female entrepreneurs benefit from the linkages of family-to-business enrichment in different ways, depending on the country’s level of economic development. In less economically developed countries, women entrepreneurs benefit more from instrumental rather than affective components of the enrichment dimension of the BFI. Conversely, in more economically advanced countries, female entrepreneurs benefit more from affective rather than the instrumental elements of this dimension. Likewise, the components of the interference dimension of the BFI affect female entrepreneurs differently depending on the economic development of the countries. Women in the less-developed country of Morocco are less impeded by their personal problems compared to their counterparts in Turkey, a more developed economy. Actually, Moroccan women entrepreneurs improved their business performance when facing obstacles, most likely due to their increased inner strength and resilience acquired when battling adversarial institutional conditions.Originality/valueThe present study makes three unique contributions to the entrepreneurship literature. First, the study links the two BFI dimensions (enrichment and interference) to firm performance with an exclusive focus on female business owners. Second, within the construct of enrichment, the study employs both family instrumental and emotional support. Third, the study shows that the country’s level of economic development moderates the relationships between the BFI dimensions and firm performance.
