Experimental study on the cyclic behaviors of an innovative lead-viscoelastic coupling beam damper (LVCBD)

Previous researches showed that the replaceable coupling beam damper (RCBD) can effectively enhance the seismic performance of shear wall structures. However, the extensively studied metallic-type RCBD has poor fatigue performance, while the viscoelastic-type RCBD is sensitive to the loading frequency. To overcome the drawbacks of the RCBD mentioned above, this paper proposes a novel RCBD, i.e., the lead-viscoelastic coupling beam damper (LVCBD), which is not only independent of the loading frequency, but also has better fatigue performance with good energy dissipation capacity. The proposed LVCBD mainly consists of three components, i.e., the lead rods, composite viscoelastic layers and steel plates. Taking advantages of the hyper-elasticity property of rubber and the dynamic recrystallization capability of lead, the combined effects from the rubber and lead make the LVCBD reusable after a severe earthquake, and facilitate the post-earthquake recovery with less or without replacement of the RCBD. To examine the performance of the proposed novel damper, three specimens were manufactured and cyclic loading tests were carried out. The influences of the loading amplitude, loading frequency and fatigue loading on the mechanical properties of the specimen were systematically investigated and discussed. Experimental results indicated that the LVCBD showed a favorable deformation capability, frequency-independent performance, fatigue resistance and stable energy dissipation capacity under cyclic loading.

In order to overcome the problem that the seismic analysis of shear wall is not comprehensive enough and the method efficiency is low, this paper proposes a new method to study the seismic performance of prefabricated shear wall structure. This method selects the technical problems in the construction process of a project for detailed analysis, including the construction process of shear wall structure of prefabricated residential buildings, vertical components and other processes. At the same time, BIM technology is applied to the prefabricated residential buildings, and Tekla software is used to model the project, and the model is imported into Naviswork for the simulation analysis of four-dimensional construction. The experimental results show that, in the longitudinal seismic resistance test, the wall side of specimens PW1 and PW2 moved within 20 mm, and the maximum bearing capacity of the wall was about 320 KN. In the horizontal seismic resistance test, the maximum lateral displacement value of specimens PW3 and PW4 was 30mm. The two specimens in the same group obtained the same data, which verified the feasibility of the proposed method.

Shaking Table Test Study of Reinforced Concrete Shear Wall Structure

A reduced-scale model of 7-story reinforced concrete shear wall structure is made. Shaking-table test of the model is carried out. Two test conditions are considered. In the first condition, fixed base is used. In another condition, soil structure interaction is considered. According to the experimental results, the dynamic characteristic and seismic performance of shear wall structure is studied. The acceleration time history response of model structure is obtained. Based on the time-history response, the dynamic characteristics of model structure are studied by spectrum analysis. The Finite Element Model of actural structure is established by ANSYS. The dynamic characteristics and seismic performance of actural structure are studied. By comparing the experiment results and numerical analysis results under the fixed-base condition, the rationality of the ANSYS model and numerical analysis method of are verified.

Study on the Seismic Performance of Shear Wall Structure with Unidirectional Wall Frames Based on Pushover Analysis

In the paper, the equation of stiff characteristic coefficient of shear wall structure with unidirectional wall frames was derived, the deformation characteristics of structure with different wall frames ratio and height were analyzed. Through pushover analysis, the seismic performance of structures were evaluated by interlayer displacement angle and plastic hinge development process. Under earthquake action, increase of wall frames ratio will make plastic deformation increase and maximum interlayer displacement floor move down.The bottom of structure is the weak region, the short wall limbs of wall frames are the weak structural vertical members. The research results show that the wall frames bring adverse effects on the structural seismic performance, so the different design meathods should be carried out according to the overturning moment proportion of wall frames.

Based on the needs of housing industrialization, prefabricated experimental study on performance of shear wall structure is essential. This article describes the specific steps 、experimental data processing method and finite element analysis of prefabricated shear walls and cast shear wall under the low cyclic reversed loading. It is to solve the error of the measurement results from error experimental methods of operation. Finally, we also look forward to the expected results of the comparative test of the shear wall structure.

Study on Improvement for Seismic Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls

Shear walls are commonly used as structural elements to resist earthquake. The seismic performance of shear wall can be guaranteed under small earthquakes, but problems exist when it is subjected to large earthquakes. To improve the ductility and energy dissipation capacity of shear walls in large earthquakes, shear failure must be avoided and the performance of plastic hinge region must be improved. The adaptive-slit shear walls (ASSW) is proposed in this paper The mechanical characteristics of ASSW satisfy the requirements of structures under different seismic level. Therefore the damage process of ASSW can be controlled and the ductile shear failure can be realized, which obviously improve the seismic performance of shear wall structures.

Experimental Investigation on Seismic Behaviors of High-Performance Concrete Shear Walls of Rectangular Section

The paper explores the failure mode, failure mechanism and deformation capacity of medium-high and low-rise shear walls. The experimental results from load-tests of 5 high-performance concrete shear walls with 1.5 and 1.0 shear span ratio indicate that the shear walls deformation capacity benefits from several bar rings like a chain along boundary element in plastic hinge zone, showing that shear wall deformation capacity design is reliable to a certain extent, in that the plastic hinge zone often influences the damage level of shear walls. With the damage at different stages, the paper divides the performance of shear wall structure into three kinds: serviceability, life-safety and collapse-prevention. Accordingly, it is proposed that the performance controlling indicators for shear wall structures is composed of storey drift ratio and the rotation of plastic hinge zone, and also provides consult values for each performance level.
