Fullerene derivatives barrier layer for efficient and stable perovskite solar cells through interfacial modification and removal of superoxide radicals

Superoxide radicals(O2•–)-induced decomposition of perovskite, which seriously impairs the photovoltaic performance and stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Both TiO2 and perovskite produce O2•– that accelerates the rate of catalytic degradation at the interface and inherently poor interfacial contact, exacerbating charge recombination and efficiency loss. Adding fullerene phenol derivative (C60HTB) to the perovskite/TiO2 interface absorbs O2•– and improves poor interfacial communication. The PSCs' power conversion efficiency (PCE) is improved from 20.54 % to 21.63 %. The target devices retained 91.20 %, 94.86 %, and 89.36 % of their initial power conversion efficiencies after 48 h of aging under full-spectrum illumination, 240 h of aging under ultraviolet illumination, and dark storage in air for 500 h, respectively. In this work, efficient and stable TiO2-based-PSCs were realized by scavenging O2•–, which opens a new way to enhance the stability of PSCs in light and O2 environments (light/oxygen).

Sustainable coatings for green solar photovoltaic cells: performance and environmental impact of recyclable biomass digestate polymers

The underutilization of digestate-derived polymers presents a pressing environmental concern as these valuable materials, derived from anaerobic digestion processes, remain largely unused, contributing to pollution and environmental degradation when left unutilized. This study explores the recovery and utilization of biodegradable polymers from biomass anaerobic digestate to enhance the performance of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells while promoting environmental sustainability. The anaerobic digestion process generates organic residues rich in biodegradable materials, often considered waste. However, this research investigates the potential of repurposing these materials by recovering and transforming them into high-quality coatings or encapsulants for PV cells. The recovered biodegradable polymers not only improve the efficiency and lifespan of PV cells but also align with sustainability objectives by reducing the carbon footprint associated with PV cell production and mitigating environmental harm. The study involves a comprehensive experimental design, varying coating thickness, direct normal irradiance (DNI) (A), dry bulb temperature (DBT) (B), and relative humidity (C) levels to analyze how different types of recovered biodegradable polymers interact with diverse environmental conditions. Optimization showed that better result was achieved at A = 8 W/m2, B = 40 °C and C = 70% for both the coated material studied. Comparative study showed that for enhanced cell efficiency and cost effectiveness, EcoPolyBlend coated material is more suited however for improving durability and reducing environmental impact NanoBioCelluSynth coated material is preferable choice. Results show that these materials offer promising improvements in PV cell performance and significantly lower environmental impact, providing a sustainable solution for renewable energy production. This research contributes to advancing both the utilization of biomass waste and the development of eco-friendly PV cell technologies, with implications for a more sustainable and greener energy future. Interface Defects Dependent on Perovskite Annealing Temperature for NiOX-Based Inverted CsPbI2Br Perovskite Solar Cells.

Nickel oxide (NiOX) is an ideal inorganic hole transport material for the fabrication of inverted perovskite solar cells owing to its excellent optical and semiconductor properties. Currently, the main research on developing the performance of NiOX-based perovskite solar cells focuses on improving the conductivity of NiOX thin films and preventing the redox reactions between metal cations (Ni3+ on the surface of NiOX) and organic cations (FA+ or MA+ in the perovskite precursors) at the NiOX/perovskite interface. In this study, a new type of interface defects in NiOX-based CsPbI2Br solar cells is reported. That is the Pb2+ from CsPbI2Br perovskites can diffuse into the lattice of NiOX surface as the annealing temperature of perovskites changes. The diffusion of Pb2+ increases the ratio of Ni3+/Ni2+ on the surface of NiOX, leading to an increase in the density of trap state at the interface between NiOX and perovskites, which eventually results in a serious decline in the photovoltaic performance of solar cells.

Design tungsten oxides hole transport layers (HTLs) to modify the back interface in all-inorganic carbon-based CsPbBr3 solar cells

To enhance the inferior photovoltaic performance of all-inorganic carbon-based perovskite solar cells (C-PSCs) caused by inefficient charge extraction and transport processes of the CsPbBr3/carbon back interface, three types of tungsten oxides (WO3, WO2.72, WO2) are synthesized as low cost and stable hole transport layers (HTLs) to modify the back interface by tunning the energy level alignment. Among the three kinds of tungsten oxides, WO3 shows the best hole extraction and transport capability and the C-PSCs using WO3 HTL generates a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 7.90% with a high open circuit voltage (Voc) of 1.307 V, indicating a great PCE enhancement of 43.9%, as compared with the device without HTL (5.49%). Meanwhile, WO2.72 and WO2 also are also proved to be qualified HTLs and the devices show PCE values of 7.57% and 6.24%, respectively. Importantly, WO3 and WO2.72 based device show excellent stabilities with PCE retention over 90% of the initial PCE values under ambient conditions for 60 days.

Enhanced mechanical endurance and power conversion efficiency in flexible Cu2ZnSnS4 solar cells using ZnO/Ag-Ag2O/ZnO film

Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) solar cells occupy an important direction in the field of clean energy research due to their environmental friendliness, low cost, and industrial technology compatibility. The complex and variable usage environment also accelerates the development of flexible CZTS solar cells. However, the inferior flexibility of ITO films limited their development. ZnO/Ag/ZnO (ZAZ) films are potential choices for transparent conductive layers of CZTS solar cells due to their high transmittance, conductivity, and flexibility. To further enhance the photovoltaic performance and mechanical durability of ZAZ films and solar cells, Ag2O was introduced into ZAZ film by magnetron sputtering. An ultra-high average transmittance of 96.6% in 400-800nm was achieved for ZnO/Ag-Ag2O/ZnO (ZAAZ) films at Ag2O sputtering power of 40W, which was attributed to the fact that Ag2O effectively inhibited the growth of 3D islands of Ag film, and formed a more uniform Ag film. ZAAZ films offered a superior figure of merit value of 0.1041 Ω-1. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of ZAAZ solar cells was 6.94%, higher than that of ZAZ solar cells (6.69%). Remarkably, the PCE of ZAAZ solar cells was 7.9% higher than that of ZAZ solar cells after 1,000 bending cycles. Therefore, Therefore, this approach may provide a promising way to improve the photovoltaic performance and mechanical durability of flexible solar cells.

Maximizing photovoltaic performance of all-inorganic perovskite CsSnI3-xBrx solar cells through bandgap grading and material design

In the modern era of technology, worldwide paradigms have been shifted toward the utilization of green energy. Sun energy is the most astonishing eco-friendly resource of energy and can be harnessed with the help of photovoltaic cells. Hybrid (Organic-Inorganic) perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are emerged with incredible photovoltaic (PV) performance. Nevertheless, a significant challenge lies in their lower stability under diverse environmental conditions. To deal with this challenge, all inorganic cesium-based PSC has been studied and analyzed, results improved stability in comparison to hybrid PSC. However, the noxious nature of lead is deleterious to the environment. So, this work primarily aimed, to study lead-free all inorganic tin-based perovskite compound CsSnI3-xBrx, as the main light absorber layer. Further, to elevate the PV performance of PSC, bandgap grading is performed on CsSnI3-xBrx by varying bromide concentration x from 0 to 3. Bandgap grading encourages the absorption of a wide range of the light spectrum, by modulating bandgap (Eg) / affinity(χ) through the distance of the CsSnI3-xBrx layer. Additionally, it enhances light-generated charge carrier separation and collection by end electrodes. In this work, two different strategies have been adopted, linear and parabolic. During linear grading, the impact of variation in x (0 to 3) has been analyzed over the thickness 50–––500 nm in 10 linear steps for CsSnI3-xBrx. The highest PCE fetched from linearly graded layered FTO / CeO2 / CsSnI3-xBrx / CFTS / Gold PSC is 21.68 %. Similarly, in the parabolic graded absorber layer, the influence of change in the bowing factor (0 to 1), has been analyzed relative to different values of x (0 to 3). With improvement in PV performance, the maximum PCE delivered by parabolic-graded PSC is 23.61 %. Additionally, this work extends to check the compatibility of distinct electron transport layers (ETLs) and hole transport layers (HTLs). Upon analysis, it has been found that the best PV performance was obtained while selecting SnO2 / PEDOT as ETL / HTL respectively.

Improving the photovoltaic performance of CIGS solar cells with the modified 3-stage co-evaporation process

The 3-stage co-evaporation process has been adopted as one of the standard deposition techniques for developing high efficiency CuIn1-xGaxSe2 (CIGS) thin film solar cells. This method often results in a double-graded [Ga]/([Ga] + [In]) or x value, leading to a double-graded bandgap in the CIGS films. The main challenge is to increase open-circuit voltage (Voc) without losing short-circuit current density (Jsc) of the devices. To achieve this goal without extra elemental sources or processes during fabrication, the standard 3-stage co-evaporation process could be modified by adjusting the deposition rate of Ga in the 1st and 3rd stages to enhance the double-graded profile of x. In the 1st stage, x1 is varied in the range of 0.37–0.60, whereas x3 is varied in the range of 0.15–0.37 in the 3rd stage. This is to be compared with our reference 3-stage process using constant x1 = x3 = 0.37. The effects of the x values on the photovoltaic properties of the CIGS devices and the elemental depth profiles of the CIGS absorber have been examined. In this work, the champion device has a maximum efficiency of 17.61 %, a Voc of 698.4 mV, a Jsc of 33.81 mA/cm2 and a fill factor (FF) of 76.12 %. This was achieved by using x1 = 0.55 and x3 = 0.25. These parameters demonstrate a significant beneficial improvement over reference 3-stage process and result in the notch position (the minimum of the x value) being approximately 500–800 nm below the surface of the CIGS films.

Synchronous effect of coordination and hydrogen bonds boosting the photovoltaic performance of perovskite solar cells

Superior quality of perovskite film with perfect crystalline and low defect density is crucial for achieving excellent photovoltaic performance and durability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), and regulation of growth of perovskite crystal and defects passivation by additive is remain challenge. Herein, two acyl molecules (Succinimide: SCI, and Hydantoin: HDT) were incorporated into perovskite precursor solution as additive. It can be found that the HDT molecule can not only passivate undercoordinated Pb2+ defects in perovskite films by the -C=O groups with coordination bonds, but also formed hydrogen bonds with I− by -NH- group, which effectively inhibited the formation of iodine vacancy defects and regulated growth rate of perovskite crystals, and the quality of perovskite films was optimized with enlarging grain size and reduced trap-density. Consequently, power conversion efficiency of HDT-based device was enhanced from 19.47 % to 21.00 %, with an enhancement of JSC and VOC. Moreover, the HDT-based device without encapsulation retained 83.7 % of its initial PCE after being aged at 10–20 % RH for 60 days. Obviously, such a study could provide a new strategy to optimize quality of perovskite film for boosting performance of PSCs.

Dye-sensitized solar cell: Effect of light on N3 dye/BMII electrolyte based architecture

This study evaluates the photovoltaic performance of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) for various light conditions. This work focuses on exploring the experimental characteristics of a thin-film solar cell composed of an ITO/TiO2/N3-Dye and BMII electrolyte molecules/Pt/ITO. A meticulous investigation is conducted to understand the impact of different illumination intensities on the efficiency of these solar cells. In the experiments, the power conversion efficiencies (PCE) of the device reached 7.61 % with a maximum open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.67 V under 100 mW/cm2 AM 1.5 solar irradiance. The morphology of the TiO2 nanoparticles that have been synthesized for the DSSC were analyzed by Ultraviolet–Visible Spectrometry, X-Ray Diffractometry, as well as Scanning Electron Microscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) parameters and Nyquist plot results showed that a systematic understanding of charge transfer within the DSSC is essential to extract an equivalent circuit model. The results of this study allow optimizing the performance of future DSSCs for sustainable energy systems.

Promoting effect of lanthanum doping on photovoltaic performance of CZTSSe solar cells.

A large open-circuit voltage (VOC) deficit is the major challenge hindering the efficiency improvement of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 (CZTSSe) solar cells. Cation substitution, or doping, is usually an effective strategy to achieve carrier regulation and improve efficiency. In this work, we developed a rare-earth element lanthanum (La) doped CZTSSe thin-film solar cell by directly introducing La3+ ions into the CZTS precursor solution. Such a proposed La doping approach could effectively enhance light harvesting, adjust the bandgap, and increase the electron diffusion length. Furthermore, appropriate concentrations of La doping can reduce harmful defect cluster. Benefiting from the La doping, the VOC significantly increases from 431 to 497 mV. Consequently, the power conversion efficiency is enhanced significantly from 6.54% (VOC = 431 mV, JSC = 25.50 mA/cm2, FF = 58.28%) for the reference cell to 10.21% (VOC = 497 mV, JSC = 35.20 mA/cm2, FF = 58.41%) for the optimized La-doped cell. This research provides a new direction for enhancing the performance of CZTSSe cells, offering promising prospects for the future of CZTSSe thin-film solar cells.

Wide bandgap polymer donors with an acceptor1-π-acceptor2-π configuration for efficient polymer solar cells

To maximize the photovoltaic performance of polymer solar cells (PSCs), polymer donors and nonfullerene acceptors (NFAs) should be designed with complementarily optical and electronic properties as well as desirable morphological features. Currently, high-performance polymer donors are mainly constructed by alternating copolymerization of electron-rich (D) and electron-deficient (A) units. Here, we demonstrate that acceptor1-π-acceptor2-π (A1-π-A2-π)-type polymer donors constructed by copolymerization of two different A units can achieve comparable photovoltaic properties with those of D-π-A-π-type counterparts. By using the ladder-type 4,10-bis(2-hexyldecyl)-thieno[2ˊ,3ˊ:5,6]pyrido[3,4-g]thieno-[3,2-c]isoquinoline-5,11-dione as A1 unit, difluorobenzotriazole or benzodithiophene-4,8-dione as A2 unit, and thiophene unit as the π bridge, two A1-π-A2-π-type copolymers, P03 and P07, are successfully synthesized. Due to the weakened intramolecular charge-transfer effect, P03 and P07 exhibit wide bandgaps of 1.88 and 1.74 eV, respectively. In combination with the NFA of L8-BO, the P03:L8-BO-based blend shows superior crystallinity and uniform phase-separated morphology thereby leading to a higher power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 15.03 % in comparison with the P07:L8-BO-based blend which shows a PCE of 9.84 %. Notably, the 15.03 % efficiency is by far the highest value for PSCs based on A1-π-A2-π-type polymer donors. These results provide useful guidance for the future design of high-performance donor copolymers for PSCs.

Natural extracts from Rhus microphylla and Opuntia joconostle as mono and co-sensitizers for efficiency enhancement of nano-TiO2 based dye-sensitized solar cells

In this work, six plants are presented to obtain different molecules with distinct properties to be used in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC). Cells have been assembled using Opuntia joconostle (xoconostle), Rhus microphylla (limilla), Tagetes erecta (marigold flower), Euphorbia pulcherrima (poinsettia flower), Bougainvillea spectabilis (bougainvillea) and Camellia sinensis (green tea) as individual and mixed pigments. In the case of xoconostle and limilla this is the first time that their extracts have been used as sensitizers in DSSC. Having these natural dyes, the co-sensitization technique was adopted to improve the photovoltaic performance of the solar cells. The best performance with the individual extracts was from the poinsettia flower having a conversion efficiency of 0.0022 % with Voc of 0.29 V, Jsc of 0.014 mA/cm2 and FF of 48.56, in the case of co-pigmentation, the best mixture was poinsettia flower with xoconostle and green tea (NXT) having a conversion efficiency of 0.0044 % with Voc of 0.34 V, Jsc of 0.035 mA/cm2 and FF of 44.50, using irradiation of 1000 W/m2 at 25°C. The purpose of mixed dyes is to absorb a wider interval of the electromagnetic spectra. Computational calculations based on the Density Functional Theory were used to calculate each molecule’s HOMO and LUMO levels.

Synergistic strategies to unveil the dual influence of additive and annealing treatment on the morphology of isatin-derived low bandgap small molecule donor in solution-processed organic solar cells

A novel organic small molecule, 5-(4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)-1-octylindoline-2,3-dione (TPI) containing an alkyl chain substituted electron accepting isatin (indoline-2,3-dione) and strong electron withdrawing N, N-diphenylaniline units have been synthesized through Suzuki coupling reaction. The molecular structure of TPI is confirmed by NMR, FT-IR, and Mass spectroscopy techniques. The TPI molecule exhibits a low band gap of approximately ∼ 2.03 eV which is also supported by the DFT results. The influence of additive and heat treatment on the electronic, morphological, and photovoltaic performance of organic solar cells was investigated meticulously. The TPI donor exhibits complementary light absorption with fullerene acceptor in combination with DIO and TA which efficiently absorb the photon in the 300–730 nm range. The TPI was later used as an electron donor material for the fabrication of organic solar cells. Remarkably, the morphology-dependent optimized TPI:PC71BM (1:3.0) exposed excellent power conversion efficiency (PCE) of about ∼ 5.56 % with enhanced VOC of ∼ 0.811 V, JSC of 11.81 mA cm−2 and FF of 55.3 % fabricated in addition with DIO and thermal annealing treatment. Most importantly, the unencapsulated devices maintained > 96 % of the initial PCE value after 240 h under ambient temperature. Our findings indicate that isatin-derived small molecules with simple architecture propose great potential for promising BHJ-OSCs material.

Boosting the efficiency up to 33 % for chalcogenide tin mono-sulfide-based heterojunction solar cell using SCAPS simulation technique

In the present article, an FTO/n-ZnO/SnS/Sb2S3/Au heterojunction photovoltaic cell structure was modeled and the cell performance in terms of output parameters viz. open circuit voltage (Voc), short-circuit current density (Jsc), efficiency (η) and fill factor (FF) by varying carrier concentration, and thickness of different layers involved, was studied at ambient conditions. The overall theoretical performance of the designed photovoltaic cell was examined using SCAPS 1-D simulation programme. The simulation programme operates by resolving semiconductor equations such as the Poisson equation, drift-diffusion equation, and continuity equation for both electrons and holes. The equations are generally solved in one-dimension (1D) in a steady state condition. The role of Sb2S3 HTL on the performance study of tin sulfide chalcogenide-based heterojunction photovoltaic cell (HPVC) was also analyzed. Moreover, the impact of functioning temperature between 273 K and 350 K on the performance of photovoltaic cell was observed, and an increase in temperature resulted in poor performance. The impact of different metal back contact work functions and some more electrical parameters viz. series-shunt resistances, defect concentration of layers and interfaces, and radiative recombination coefficients were also observed on HPVC. The simulation results revealed that the HTL Sb2S3 forms proper band alignment with the SnS chalcogenide absorber layer and enhanced the efficiency, η of HPVC by lessening the carrier recombination at the rear contact side. The dislocation and interface defect reduced significantly which leads to the smooth conduction of hole carriers, therefore, preventing of minority carriers to recombine within the absorber. A significant increase in the efficiency ∼33.24 % together with performance cell parameters Jsc ∼34.38 mA/cm2, Voc ∼1.09 V, and FF ∼88.49 % was observed.

Performance analysis of PVSyst based grid connected photovoltaic systems in Pakistan compared to SAARC countries

Electricity demand increasing day by day with the passage of time, fossil fuels and traditional electricity sources are becoming obsolete. The possibility of dealing with a power deficit and importing oil and gas for electricity generation exists for developing nations like Pakistan. One of the most accessible and affordable sources of renewable energy in the world is solar power generating. Photovoltaic (PV) cell performance is influenced by the environment and the technology used to capture the available energy. The Islamabad region of Pakistan is blessed with an average of 300 days of sunshine a year due to its location in the solar band at 33.7215°N latitude and 73.0433°E longitude. The current study compares and contrasts how Pakistan and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries generate electricity using solar systems. Choosing one geographical place from all SAARC nations, PVSyst software is used to develop and estimate the performance study for solar model cell Panasonic 320Wp, 48V and 1.5 kW Inverter Fronius for a 9.6 kWp load. Energy supplied into the grid is studied together with various losses that occur in the system, with the choice of PV arrays and other factors remaining the same for comparison study of all SAARC countries. The approach to minimize losses through the utilization of an adjustable tilt angle has been implemented. This study will be useful in estimating and planning the solar energy output in all SAARC nations for the same photovoltaic system, and it will be simple to trade all PV system components in the region.

Combined experimental and DFT investigation on photovoltaic performance of low-cost metal-free organic dye-sensitized solar cells

Metal-free organic dyes, viz. eosin yellow (eosin-Y), fluorescein and curcumin were used as sensitizers in zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles thin film photoanode based dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) and also investigated by density functional theory (DFT). UV–vis spectrophotometer was employed to determine absorption feature of dyes in solar spectrum, adsorption tendency towards ZnO photoanode surface, molar-extinction coefficient and desorbed dye molecules from the photoanode surface. The photovoltaic performance of metal-free organic DSSCs employing imidazole based liquid electrolyte and platinum counter electrode was evaluated under standard light exposure of 85 mW/cm2. Among the dyes, eosin-Y DSSC delivered overall energy conversion efficiency (η) of 0.95 % with short-circuit photocurrent density (Jsc) of 2.98 mA cm−2, open-circuit photovoltage (Voc) of 0.54 V and fill factor (FF) of 0.50, which was about 20 % and 40 % higher than that of the energy conversion efficiency of DSSCs sensitized with fluorescein and curcumin dyes, respectively. The better photovoltaic performance exhibited by the eosin-Y DSSC is credited to its high molar extinction coefficient, intense light absorption in the solar spectrum and good adsorption on ZnO thin film photoanode surface. The maximum driving force for dye molecules regeneration and electron injection value of eosin-Y dye attached on the surface of ZnO cluster (eosin-Y + ZnO) resulted in higher Voc. The outcomes of this experimental data are in well agreement with DFT results.

Halogenated 9H-Indeno[1,2-b]Pyrazine-2,3-Dicarbonitrile End Groups Based Asymmetric Non-Fullerene Acceptors for Green Solvent-Processable, Additive-Free, and Stable Organic Solar Cells.

Non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) significantly enhance photovoltaic performance in organic solar cells (OSCs) using halogenated solvents and additives. However, these solvents are environmentally detrimental and unsuitable for industrial-scale production, and the issue of OSCs' poor long-term stability persists. This report introduces eight asymmetric NFAs (IPCnF-BBO-IC2F, IPCnF-BBO-IC2Cl, IPCnCl-BBO-IC2F, and IPCnCl-BBO-IC2Cl, where n = 1 and 2). These NFAs comprise a 12,13-bis(2-butyloctyl)-3,9-diundecyl-12,13-dihydro-[1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-e]thieno[2'',3'':4',5']thieno[2',3':4,5]pyrrolo[3,2-g]thieno[2',3':4,5]thieno-[3,2-b]indole (BBO) core. One end of the core attaches to a mono- or di-halogenated 9H-indeno[1,2-b]pyrazine-2,3-dicarbonitrile (IPC) end group (IPC1F, IPC1Cl, IPC2F, or IPC2Cl), while the other end connects to a 2-(5,6-dihalo-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ylidene)malononitrile (IC) end group (IC2F or IC2Cl). The optical and electronic properties of these NFAs can be finely tuned by controlling the number of halogen atoms. Crucially, these NFAs demonstrate excellent compatibility with PM6 even in o-xylene, facilitating the production of additive-free OSCs. The di-halogenated IPC-based NFAs outperform their mono-halogenated counterparts in photovoltaic performance within OSCs. Remarkably, the di-halogenated IPC-based NFAs maintain 94‒98% of their initial PCEs over 2000 h in air without encapsulation, indicating superior long-term device stability. These findings imply that the integration of di-halogenated IPCs in asymmetric NFA design offers a promising route to efficient, stable OSCs manufactured through environmentally friendly processes.

Influence of Supplementary Oxide Layer on Solar Cell Performance

The increasing use of solar energy for electricity production has led to a directly proportional growth in the production of solar cells. Photovoltaic (PV) performance of silicon solar cells can be improved by using more efficient technologies, optimizing processes, and changing behavior in order to reduce operational costs and greenhouse gas emissions. In order to propose solutions for commercial solar cell production with better performance, this article presents an experimental assessment on Supplementary Oxide Layers (SOLs) that are deposited on the surface of a solar cell absorber layer. SOLs are typically used to improve the performance of solar cells by passivating surface defects, reducing recombination losses, and improving the electrical contact between the absorber layer and the metal electrodes. The obtained solar cells are tested under natural sunlight conditions, following a variable dynamic electronic charge profile. The experimental results along with the corresponding I-V and P-V curves, are assessed according to the process parameters, the lighting parameters, and the dynamic load scenario. SOLs have been shown to improve the Power Conversion Efficiency (PCE) of solar cells considerably. The proposed method for increasing the energy efficiency of solar cells can be applied to any type of commercial solar cell and it is easy to implement at the industrial or research level by controlling process parameters. The integration of the whole process, i.e. development of precursor solutions, deposition of thin films, and testing of electrical properties is another contribution of the current study, along with its interdisciplinary character, which involves materials science, electronics, and software programming.
