Events Management Practices and Performance of Selected HEIs in National Capital Region: Inputs for Sustainable Business Generating Projects

Events management practices played a crucial role in the success and performance of higher education institutions (HEIs) in implementing sustainable business generating projects. This study examined the inputs related to events management practices and their impact on the performance of selected HEIs in the context of sustainable business generating projects. The research aimed to provide insights into effective strategies and best practices that could enhance the success of these projects within HEIs. The study adopted a quantitative research approach, utilizing surveys to gather data from a sample of selected HEIs. The study identified key success factors and challenges faced by HEIs in managing events and sustaining their business generating initiatives. It also provided practical recommendations and guidelines for HEIs to optimize their events management practices and improve project performance. The research outcomes were valuable for HEI administrators, event managers, and other stakeholders involved in sustainable business generating projects within the higher education sector. By identifying effective strategies and practices, this study aimed to enhance the ability of HEIs to generate sustainable business opportunities through events and contribute to the overall development and reputation of these institutions. In conclusion, this study sought to bridge the gap in knowledge regarding events management practices and their impact on the performance of HEIs in sustainable business generating projects. The findings informed decision-making processes and enabled HEIs to implement effective and sustainable events management strategies, ultimately leading to enhanced project performance and long-term success.

Influence of Human Resource Management on Work Performance at Vietnam Higher Education Institutions

The purpose of the paper is to examine the impact of human resource management on employee performance in Vietnam universities. In addition to empirically testing the hypotheses in the context of university autonomy in Vietnam, the research has attempted to further examine the achieved results and challenges for human resource management in Vietnam's higher education institutions through the variable regulating University autonomy. The findings in the research have provided empirical support for the correlation between human resource management and employee performance in higher education institutions. The author asked for the opinions of several experts on the questionnaire. Then send the test questionnaire to 10 agencies in higher education institutions. The author has adjusted the questionnaire to make it easier to understand to get the most accurate and reliable answers. The author sent the questionnaire during the period from April 2023 to June 2023, the total number of survey questionnaires distributed was 370 questionnaires, of which 350 votes are eligible for analysis.

Examining the impact of sustainable leadership on green knowledge sharing and green learning: Understanding the roles of green innovation and green organisational performance

Despite the enhanced significance of leadership in the effectual transformation of universities towards sustainability, literature on the role and practices of sustainable leadership (SL) in higher education institutions (HEIs) remains scarce. To address this gap, this study investigated the direct effect of SL on teachers' green learning outcomes (green cognitive, social, self-growth, and satisfaction with university green experiences) in Chinese HEIs, guided by stakeholder theory. Green knowledge sharing was examined as a mediator between SL and green learning outcomes. The direct impact of teachers' green learning outcomes on green innovation (green speed and quality) and green organisational performance (customer green satisfaction, green curriculum development, green responsiveness, green research productivity, and green research ranking) were also analysed. This study also investigated whether green innovation fosters green performance in Chinese HEIs. A quantitative and cross-sectional research method was employed to analyse the data (N = 393). Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was applied to execute hypothetical relationships. The results showed that SL directly and positively affected green learning outcomes; however, green knowledge sharing enacted direct-only non-mediation between SL and green learning outcomes. Additionally, green learning outcomes endorsed a direct and positive relationship between green innovation and organisational performance. Similarly, a direct and positive association was found between green innovation and green organisational performance. This study focused on abandoned research, that is, the direct effect of SL on teachers' green learning outcomes in HEIs, revealing that teachers' green knowledge sharing, learning outcomes, and innovation are vital to their green organisational learning and performance. This study examined the direct effects of SL on teachers’ green learning outcomes in HEIs, which is unique to the sector. Further, the investigation of green knowledge sharing between SL and green learning outcomes is a novel contribution. Similarly, the combination of green learning outcomes, green innovation, and green performance in HEIs is original.

Appraisal System and Employee Performance: A Qualitative Study in The Education Sector

Higher education institutions offer the advanced training required for a wide range of professions, including educators, physicians, nurses, engineers, humanists, business owners, and social scientists. In addition, HEIs also provide the high-level skills required for every labor market. Faculty members in HEIs are the source of delivering better education. Hence, the study aims to increase faculty members' performance in HEIs. This study uses the qualitative research approach to investigate the relationship between performance appraisal and faculty members' performance in higher education institutions (HEIs). The research data is collected from the faculty members of the HEIs, and the content analysis of the interviews is utilized as the primary data analysis method. The study's findings indicate the positive effects of the performance appraisal system in universities on the performance of faculty members and universities. The research highlights the importance of implementing an effective performance appraisal system that promotes faculty members' professional growth and contributes to the institution's overall success.

In recent years, various stakeholders, including researchers, policymakers, and students, have displayed a growing interest in assessing the effectiveness and performance of higher education institutions. Although no single indicator is sufficient to describe the organizational quality of the university, student satisfaction is one of the most often used indicators. Extensive prior research has consistently demonstrated that high levels of student satisfaction positively influence crucial performance measures such as student retention and institutional graduation rates. Although student satisfaction has been extensively studied, particularly among undergraduate students, much less research has been done among adult learners returning to college. This paper aims to identify the key institutional factors that significantly impact the satisfaction of part-time postgraduate students. We hope that the insights of the study can help universities to allocate their limited resources and ultimately to enhance the well-being of the students.

Importance and Performance Analysis of Lecturers Intellectual Capital of Indonesian University with Diagonal Regression Approach and Standard Error of Estimation (SEE)

Purpose: This study aims to explain the use of Importance and Importance Analysis (IPA) with a diagonal regression approach and standard error of estimation (SEE) in the case of lecturers in intellectual capital universities in Indonesia. Theoretical framework: The Lecturer Study of Intellectual Capital University is closely related to the excellence of Human Resources, individually and collectively as a key factor for higher education excellence. Science analysis can produce strategic considerations to improve the overall performance of higher education institutions. Method/design/approach: The research design uses a quantitative approach; the population is all university lecturers in Indonesia. Scale data is in the form of semantic differential, questionnaires are made in Google forms which are shared using social media: email, WhatsApp’s and telegrams. There were 225 answers worthy of analysis, coming from 65 universities spread across 14 provinces in Indonesia. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using Importance and Importance Analysis with a diagonal regression approach and standard error of estimation. Results and conclusion: The study results show that a high difference in the mean importance and importance does not necessarily indicate irrelevant performance, because the spread of the data must be checked from the estimated standard error according to the considered level of accuracy. It is concluded that lecturers at intellectual capital universities in Indonesia currently need improvement in the fields of academic position, learning skills, and relationships between lecturers. Besides that, the indicators that need improvement are innovation, relativity, and lecturer involvement in method-making. Research implications: University lecturers are one of the key factors in the development of universities today. With the presence of lecturers, the university can carry out its business processes as a higher education institution. It seems that this research has not been responded well by all lecturers in Indonesia, it is evident that only 225 respondents want to be involved in this research, even though the benefits are considered very strategic for fostering the role of lecturers in improving the quality of universities as a whole, then the use of semantic differential scales is very suitable for analysis IPA because the data can be implemented directly in the analysis, there is no need for data transformation. Originality/value: Science studies in the field of Intellectual Capital are still new, as well as the use of semantic differential scales and diagonal regression approaches with standard error estimation that have not been found in previous literature.

The positive role of the employee cannot be underestimated in the organization's success because employees are the main asset of any organization; these unique assets must be fascinated through an organizational learning culture (OLC). They must also adapt to the changes in the organization to accept the challenges of the current era. Subsequently, this study expects to evaluate the impact of transformational leadership (TL) on faculty performance in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). In addition, it examines the mediating role of organizational learning culture (OLC) between transformational leadership and employee performance (EP). Data is collected from HEIs in Pakistan. The questionnaire was adopted from past studies and distributed to 400 faculty members of business schools in Pakistan. The result of the study indicates that transformational leadership significantly impacts employee performance (EP) in the presence of a learning culture (mediating variable). The study's findings can be used in other organizations in Pakistan rather than only in academic institutions.

A machine learning approach feature to forecast the future performance of the universities in Canada

University ranking is a technique of measuring the performance of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) by evaluating them on various criteria like student satisfaction, expenditure, research and teaching quality, citation count, grants, and enrolment. Ranking has been determined as a vital factor that helps students decide which institution to attend. Hence, universities seek to increase their overall rank and use these measures of success in their marketing communications and prominently place their ranked status on their institution's websites. Despite decades of research on ranking methods, a limited number of studies have leveraged predictive analytics and machine learning to rank universities. In this article, we collected 49 Canadian universities’ data for 2017–2021 and divided them based on Maclean's categories into Primarily Undergraduate, Comprehensive, and Medical/Doctoral Universities. After identifying the input and output components, we leveraged various feature engineering and machine learning techniques to predict the universities’ ranks. We used Pearson Correlation, Feature Importance, and Chi-Square as the feature engineering methods, and the results show that “student to faculty ratio,” “total number of citations”, and “total number of Grants” are the most important factors in ranking Canadian universities. Also, the Random Forest machine learning model for the “primarily undergraduate category,” the Voting classifier model for the “comprehensive category” and the Gradient Boosting model for the “medical/doctoral category” performed the best. The selected machine learning models were evaluated based on accuracy, precision, F1 score, and recall.

A systematic review of key success factors in postgraduate studies

Background: Massification of higher education and growth in undergraduate students has propelled a wave of students seeking advanced degrees. Increasing numbers of postgraduate students reflect the performance of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and highlight the need to study key elements affecting postgraduate academic success. Purpose: This systematic literature review (SLR) aims to identify key success factors related to postgraduate studies. Research approach: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines were used to guide the reporting of this review. Articles in ScienceDirect, Jestp.com, Ed.gv, Tandfonline.com, Oup.com, Springer.com, Researchgate.net, Sagepub.com, Wiley.com, Alt.ac.uk, and Stor.org were searched between January 2013 and January 2023. Results: A final 28 studies from 14 countries were reviewed to provide a holistic assessment of major factors affecting postgraduate academic success. The most common success factors in postgraduate studies are teaching and learning methods, quality research supervision, research capacity building, library services, Postgraduate Student Office workshops, and student characteristics. Limitations within some factors were also reported. Conclusion and implication: The study concluded that postgraduate students’ ability to function effectively depends on adequately implementing and managing critical and complex factors. The results of the study will inform postgraduate programme practitioners.

Influencers of academic staff performance in higher education: the role of motivation, transformational leadership and involvement in strategic planning

PurposeThis study empirically examines the impact of motivation, transformational leadership and involvement in strategic planning (SP) on academic staff performance at higher education institutions (HEIs). It also examines how academics' involvement in SP mediates the associations between motivation, transformational leadership and performance.Design/methodology/approachThis article conducted a quantitative approach based on a self-administered survey. Partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was applied to analyze the data gathered from 192 faculty members at governmental HEIs in Oman.FindingsThe results indicated that academic staff motivation has a significant and positive impact on their involvement in SP and performance in HEIs. It is also revealed that employee involvement in SP activities is significantly affected by transformational leadership, while the latter does not affect academic staff performance. There is also a significant association between academic staff involvement in SP and their performance. Moreover, the relationships between motivation, transformational leadership and performance are fully mediated by academic staff involvement in SP at HEIs.Originality/valueThe current empirical work is one of the few endeavors to develop an integrated structural model to investigate how faculty members' performance could be affected by motivation, transformational leadership and involvement in SP. Furthermore, it is considered one of the first attempts to explore the intervening role of academic staff involvement in the SP process in the connections between motivation, transformational leadership and performance within the HEI realm.

Methods and technologies for evaluating the quality of higher education in the context of international standards: A comparison of the Ukrainian and Polish experience of creating ratings

The need to study the methods and technologies used to assess the level of educational services is primarily due to constant transformations in educational processes, improvement of the system of criteria used to rank higher education institutions. The purpose of this study was to analyse the tools used to assess the performance of higher education institutions in the context of international standardization of educational processes. The main methods used in the study were statistical analysis, comparative and contrastive and analytical and synthetic methods. The comparative and contrastive analysis revealed that research activities were among the main indicators that influenced the creation of the rankings: Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings (60%), TOP-200 Ukraine (42%), Perspektywy (42%), and prestige and reputation: QS World University Rankings (40%), Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings (30%), TOP-200 Ukraine (12%). The methods used to create the rankings included statistical, pedagogical analysis, analytical and synthetic methods, and surveys. To create the Ukrainian ranking, 6 international (Webometrics, Scopus, Times Higher Education World University Rankings, Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings, UniRank, QS World University Rankings) and 4 national (participation in research project competitions, number of patents received, awards for young scientists, the ratio between the number of applications and the competition score) indicators were used. The Polish ranking was based on 29 indicators divided into groups: prestige, scientific effectiveness, scientific strength, scientific and educational potential, internationalization, graduates on the labour market, innovation, study conditions, and economic cooperation. In Poland, there was a balance between international and national criteria, while in Ukraine, about 70% of international criteria and 30% of national criteria were used. This work can be used in the future to improve national and international systems for assessing the quality of higher education, and to develop a unified mechanism for creating ratings

This research investigates the impact of organizational culture and communication skills on administrative performance in higher education institutions in East Java. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a sample of 250 administrative staff, the study employs Structural Equation Modeling with Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to analyze the relationships among these key variables. The measurement model assessment confirms the reliability and validity of the constructs, while the structural model reveals significant and positive effects of both organizational culture and communication skills on administrative performance. The findings highlight the importance of fostering a positive organizational culture and enhancing communication skills to optimize administrative efficiency. The study contributes valuable insights to the field of higher education administration and offers practical recommendations for institutions seeking to improve their administrative practices.

Are Intellectual Assets Management Important for University Performance Achievement??

The purpose of this study is to explore how universities extract the value of knowledge assets to be able to survive and be competitive. This study wants to find the governance of knowledge assets embedded in Indonesian state universities’ human capital, structural capital, and relational and innovation capital. In addition, the questionnaire survey results will show the relationship between knowledge assets and university performance. This research will provide an understanding of the measurement of knowledge assets and the performance of higher education institutions. The results of this study indicate that knowledge assets, as measured by human capital, relational capital, and structural capital, positively influence the performance of universities in Indonesia. Therefore, it is proper for universities in Indonesia to be able to manage knowledge assets optimally.

Benchmarking performance through efficiency analysis trees: Improvement strategies for colombian higher education institutions

We introduce benchmarking analysis based on state-of-the-art machine learning techniques applied to the measurement of efficiency to assess the performance of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). We rely on Efficiency Analysis Trees (EAT) and its Convexified frontier counterpart (CEAT) to assess the efficiency of 144 private HEIs in Colombia and compare the results with those achieved with classical Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). Both EAT and CEAT show a higher discriminatory power than DEA when determining efficiency scores. Our results identify the different splits of the production frontier, corresponding to each node of the efficiency tree, which groups HEIs according to specific management models. By identifying relevant peers for inefficient observations at the node level, we show which strategic guidelines can be adopted to improve the performance of each HEI. This process encourages mutual learning and suggests potential changes within each node leading to efficiency improvements.

Nonparametric efficiency measurement of undergraduate teaching by university size

Conventional data envelopment analysis (DEA) models assume that all decision-making units (DMUs) are homogenous. While higher education institutions (HEIs) of very different sizes challenge the homogeneity of DMUs, DEA studies have paid relatively little attention to university size when assessing the performance of HEIs. This article proposes novel, effective methods for evaluating university performance and identifying useful benchmarks for improving the operations of inefficient performers. Specifically, DEA and cluster analysis (CA) are applied for the evaluation of the performance of traditional Spanish public universities. DEA is utilized to examine the relative performance of these universities in terms of undergraduate teaching output. CA is applied to find similar-in-scale universities prior to the DEA to facilitate peer-groupings. The advantage of this method is that when DMUs are clustered based on their size, one can obtain homogenous groups of units with comparable operating environments. Furthermore, using the meta-frontier framework, this research finds significant evidence that there is an efficiency advantage for medium- and large-sized universities over small ones in providing undergraduate teaching. A bootstrapped, non-parametric meta-frontier approach also verifies this latter result. Some of the factors that contribute to the differences in the relative efficiencies are identified as well.

Exploring the Impact of Proactive Personality on Organizational Innovative Performance in Higher Education: The Mediating Role of Innovative Work Behavior

One of the challenges in improving the innovative performance of higher education institutions is the proactive attitude and innovative work behavior of lecturer. This research aims to analyze the influence of proactive personality and innovative work behavior on increasing organizational innovative performance. The data analysis process uses AMOS version 22 with the SEM (Structural Equation Model) application. There are 216 lecturers as the unit of analysis from 17 private universities accredited as superior and A in Jakarta, Indonesia. Research findings show that proactive personality (PP) and innovative work behavior (IWB) have a positive and significant effect on the innovative performance of higher education. In addition, IWB plays a positive and significant role as a mediator in increasing the influence of PP on organizational innovative performance. Therefore, universities need to create a work atmosphere that supports the proactive attitude of lecturers and allows the emergence of innovative work behavior.

Information technology and higher education institutions (HEI) performance: the mediating role of organizational capability

Research aims: This study aims to examine the effect of Information Technology (IT) on the performance of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Indonesia. Also, this study investigates organizational capability as a mediating variable.Design/Methodology/Approach: This research was conducted at HEIs covering all regions in Indonesia, namely Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusra, and Bali, as well as Papua. The research sample was 368 HEIs. The data were obtained by distributing questionnaires, and hypothesis testing was conducted using the Partial Least Square (PLS) method. Research findings: The study revealed that IT positively affected organizational capability and HEI performance. Organizational capability yielded a positive effect on HEI performance. Furthermore, organizational capability mediated the effect of IT on HEI performance.Theoretical contribution/ Originality: This study contributes to the research area dealing with IT, HEIs performance, and organizational capability as a mediating variable. Practitioner/Policy implication: HEI managers should improve their IT resources to enhance organizational capability, thereby improving organizational performance.Limitation/Implication: The limitation of the study is that the data collection only used questionnaires, so the information obtained was not in-depth.

Unravelling of moderating effect of progressive education between job demand and burnout

PurposeThis study aims to provide a causal framework for teacher burnout (BO) and work engagement (WE) by examining the factors that contribute to it and evaluating how progressive education (PE) affects teachers' performance in Higher education institutions (HEIs).Design/methodology/approachThis study uses a multi-stage sampling technique with the help of computer random generation data from a selected list of teachers. The survey has two sections; the first consisted of a questionnaire of PE, BO, WE and organizational outcomes and the second contained four items to measure the demographic variables. The researcher contacted 745 teachers and asked them to fill up the questionnaire but the authors received only 498 useable responses.FindingsThe results of the study confirmed that moderating role PE reduces the BO of the teachers of HEIs and increases WE. The job demand-resource (JD-R) model was also validated in the Indian context and the model was found suitable for the Indian sample.Research limitations/implicationsThe study has been conducted to manage BO and teachers' engagement in HEIs and the result suggests that the Management of HEIs should value PE characteristics as a crucial component of the educational process. PE encourages academic engagement among professors and students in HEIs.Originality/valueThe study tests the moderating role of PE with the JD-R and the JD-R model in the higher education system in India, which is rarely tested. The study's integrated approach to BO and WE, which provide insight into both viewpoints and aids in employees' poor health.
