Study the performance characteristics of CI engine with hemp oil methyl Ester, ethanol and diesel blends

Fossil fuel is an important tool for the development of any country. The rapid depletion of fossil fuels is a result of rising demand. Additionally, the use of fossil fuels contributes to climate change by emitting greenhouse gases. Energy security can be increased by creating alternative renewable fuels. The current study assesses whether hemp oil (cannabis sativa) combined with ethanol (C2H5OH) and diesel could be used as an alternative fuel for diesel engines. Hemp oil is transformed into biodiesel by a process called transesterification. Hemp biodiesel is mixed with base diesel and ethanol (C2H5OH) in a different of ratios, including B10, B10E10, B10E20, B20, B20E10, and B20E20, which are then evaluated in a single cylinder, four-stroke diesel engine under various loading situations. Because braking power and brake load are inversely related, BTE rises as brake load does. Due to the presence of additional oxygen, B20E10 & B20E20 fuel blend were discovered to be the ideal proportions for improved engine performance. Due to the higher brake power generated at higher loads, BSFC decreases as brake load increases for all test fuels.

Critical insights into the effects of plastic pyrolysis oil on emission and performance characteristics of CI engine.

Pyrolysis is an encouraging solution considering the facts of energy demand and waste plastic management as it produces liquid fuel for compression ignition engine application. This study provides critical insights into the effects of waste plastic oil on the emission and performance characteristics of compression ignition engines. Though most of the studies have shown a negative influence, promising outcomes have been noticed in a few specific cases. A maximum of 71%, 80%, 76%, 71%, 21%, and 13% decrease in nitrogen oxide emission, carbon monoxide emission, unburnt hydrocarbon emission, smoke emission, exhaust gas temperature, and brake-specific fuel consumption, respectively, have been noticed with waste plastic oil or its blends at certain operating conditions. Nevertheless, the presence of long carbon chains, higher aromatic content, and non-homogeneous air-fuel mixture owing to the wide product distribution in plastic oil are the few reasons which affected the emission and performance characteristics of the engines. More rigorous investigations are needed to improve the quality of the fuel and to establish correlations between the fuel properties and pyrolysis parameters. In addition, the effects of incorporating exhaust gas recirculation, emulsification process, and use of additives with waste plastic oil need to be explored more for reducing the emissions with satisfactory engine performance, and in this regard, the use of bio-additives with waste plastic oil can provide a new direction to this research field. Further, studies on the economic feasibility and the impact of waste plastic oil on engine materials are also required.

A critical review of emission and performance characteristics of CI engine using bio-additives

The situation of the current era demands reduction of exhaust emissions from the transportation sector. In spite of substantial contributions to environmental pollution, compression ignition engine is considered to be the backbone of the transportation sector. Amongst various techniques available for mitigating engine emissions, the most feasible one is to improve fuel properties using additives. In this regard, bio-additives are getting attention due to the added advantages of being degradable and non-toxic in nature. Therefore, an attempt has been taken in this study to review the emission and performance characteristics of compression ignition engine using bio-additives. From this study, it is seen that more than 80% reduction in carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxide emissions can be achieved using certain bio-additives at particular operating conditions. In the case of unburnt hydrocarbon, smoke emission and exhaust gas temperature, the maximum reduction is more than 50%, 65% and 14%, respectively, in comparison with the base fuels without additives. However, the added advantage of using bio-additives for reducing life-threatening harmful emissions from compression ignition engines is indistinguishable from the fact of their negative impacts on brake-specific fuel consumption. Limited available studies in the context of brake power have shown that except quantum dot nanoparticle, almost all of the bio-additives have a negative or insignificant influence on brake power. Furthermore, strength, weakness, opportunity and threat analysis for the application of bio-additives has been also conducted.

Experimental investigation of performance and emissions of CI engine fuelled with mahua oil blended camphor fuel

Rapid increment in the energy sector is forcing all countries to look forward to find an alternate solution for their improvements. Biofuel is best alternative which can be easily used in the CI engines. This paper deals with emissions and performance characteristics of CI engine fuelled with Mahua oil blended Camphor Biofuel blend (M70C30, M50C50 and M30C70). Blending the Camphor oil with mahua oil will increase the Brake thermal efficiency. BSFC for M70C30 was found higher than other blended Fuel. Increasing the percentage of camphor in blended fuel will escalate the NOx emissions and will lower the CO, HC and Smoke emissions. M30C70 has higher Thermal efficiency and lower BSFC and which also supports for lowering the HC, CO, Smoke Emissions and high NOx emissions

Experimental investigations on the performance characteristics of CI engine fuelled with cerium oxide nanoparticle added biodiesel-diesel blends

The biodiesel as a substitute to fossil fuel is able to reduce the dependence on petroleum products as well as increase the engine performance. These biofuel produced from the different sources and also it is directly used for the engine it will not fully burn and it produces increased exhaust emission level. In this research, 20% of neochloris oleoabundans algae oil (B20) blended with neat diesel fuel along with cerium oxide (CeO2) nanoparticle was used in the dosage of 25 ppm, 50 ppm, 75 ppm and 100 ppm. The experimental outcomes obtained indicated that the brake thermal efficiency had been improved and also the exhaust engine emission was decreased. And also the brake specific fuel consumption had been decreased. This research was performed in a single cylinder air cooled engine connected with electrical dynamometer without having engine alteration and also the injection pressure and timings are maintained at the original standard suitable for the engine. The energy of cerium oxide blend with the biodiesel increased the performance of the diesel engines.

Performance characteristics of CI engine using Chlorella Vulgaris microalgae oil as a pilot dual fuel blends

Ever growing requirement for energy results in the growth of addiction over fossil fuels. The depleting nature of these sources of energy and improving the nature of energy needs are causing serious energy problems with the long term energy protection. An important objective of current research is by using the blend of microalgae oil to lower emissions and also to enhance fuel performance of dual-fuelled diesel engines by high viscosity neat Chlorella Vulgaris oil and low viscosity Turpentine oil. This particular research article reveals the outcomes of investigation performed to measure the advancement in combustion, the character of the diesel engine operated with Chlorella Vulgaris oil and Turpentine oil blends were used as fuels. Outcomes revealed that usage of pilot fuel could provide adequate performance within a standard diesel engine without having any twisting within the engine. As a result of all the used fuel blends, the outcome shows that a blend of 50% Chlorella Vulgaris oil − 50% Turpentine oil used fuel blend had been seen to be an optimum blend for the diesel engine. The combustion characteristics for the engine-powered with pilot fuel were revealed virtually consistent with diesel.

Performance characteristics of CI engine using blends of waste cooking oil methyl ester, ethanol and diesel

ABSTRACTThe main emphasis of this work is to explore the biodiesel obtained from waste cooking oil and its utilisation in CI engine blended with ethanol and conventional diesel. Waste cooking oil methyl esters (WCOME) was prepared by transesterification with a heterogeneous catalyst such as CaO. Diesel and WCOME blends of five different proportions with 5% of ethanol uniformly added to them were used as a fuel in a variable compression ratio, constant speed, compression ignition engine. The performance, emission and combustion characteristics of the engine at part and full load conditions were compared with that of neat diesel, varying the compression ratio from 18 to 22. From the experimental results, the blend comprising 20% waste cooking oil, 5% ethanol and 75% mineral diesel showed ameliorated performance and emission characteristics, compared with all the other fuel blends at an optimum compression ratio of 21.

CI engine performance characteristics and exhaust emissions with enzymatic degummed linseed methyl esters and their diesel blends

ABSTRACTThis research paper deals with the comparative study of enzymatic degummed linseed methyl ester (EDLME), water degummed linseed methyl ester and non-degummed linseed methyl ester with their different diesel blends on performances parameters such as brake power and brake specific fuel consumption. Emissions characterization such as unburned hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide, nitric oxide, nitrogen dioxide and smoke opacity were also measured. It was found that the 25% blend of EDLME with diesel is the best alternative for the diesel fuel based on overall performance in terms of engine performance and emissions. Therefore, EDLME25 (25% blend of EDLME with 75% diesel) can be considered as an alternative fuel for diesel engines.
