It is no secret that the grocery retail industry has played a critical role in food security, nutrition and sustainability, but what happens if these practices result in food waste? Recent reports suggest that supermarkets may contribute to this global issue by using unethical promotion strategies that lead to consumers buying more food than they need. This not only affects the environment but also has the potential to damage brand loyalty. To address these issues, this study aims to determine whether the three dimensions of consumer Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) perceptions create more positive outcomes, such as brand trust, image and loyalty, in the Malaysian grocery retail sector. Grounded in stakeholder and resource-based view theories, scholars support the notion that brands need to embrace purpose and sustainability to fulfil their responsibility to stakeholders and enhance their competitive advantage. A multistage sampling technique was used with 536 Malaysian grocery retail consumers. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) results revealed that consumer CSR perception matters to brand loyalty, with the mediating effects of brand trust and image. These findings have theoretical and practical implications for supermarkets and policymakers seeking to improve the effectiveness of CSR activities and brand loyalty.

Can the consumer perception of corporate social responsibility be saved? An examination into the effects of corporate greenwashing on the consumer and financial market

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence that the occurrence of greenwashing has on the consumer perception of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Design/methodology/approach This paper observed the market indication that a consistent undermining of authentic commitment to CSR taints consumer perception. Investigating how the motivations behind greenwashing contribute to the presentation of CSR was the first means of examining the market forces. Consumer orientation was used as a guiding principle to consider the short- and long-term perspective of a greenwasher. Findings Individual instances of greenwashing contribute to a collective deterioration of marketplace trust in the promises of CSR. The negative influence on CSR is not isolated to the greenwashing perpetrator but casts a wider effect. The consequences of greenwashing are not isolated but widely dispersed. Originality/value Whilst much of the literature focuses on the stigmatisation of individual firms, it is crucial to note how marketplace trust is eroded. In addition, the perception of CSR-related regulations is for example influenced but rarely recognised as a consequence of greenwashing behaviour.

Impact of corporate social responsibility on employee loyalty: Mediating role of person-organization fit and employee trust.

The study explores the impact of employee perceptions of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in improving employee loyalty by examining the direct and indirect role of person-organization fit and employee trust. A convenient sampling technique was employed to collect the data sample. A total of 338 questionnaires were collected at three different China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in Pakistan. The SmartPLS-3 was used to test the study hypotheses. The results revealed that CSR positively and significantly influenced employee loyalty. The findings indicated a partial mediating impact of P-O fit and employee trust in the relationship between CSR and employee loyalty. Discussions, implications, limitations, and future research direction are also given.

This study aims to determine the effect of Job Satisfaction, Perception Corporate Social Responsibility, Organizational Trust, Artificial Intelligence on employees of An-Nisa Group Hospital Tangerang. The independent variables in this study are Job Satisfaction, Perception Corporate Social Responsibility, Organizational Trust, Artificial Intelligence and for the dependent variable in this study is Employee Performance. The method used in this research is quantitative method and the data used is primary data obtained directly from the results of distributing questionnaires and measured using a Likert Scale. This research was conducted at An-Nisa Group Hospital Tangerang with a total of 150 respondents. The data analysis technique uses SPSS. The data in this study were collected using a questionnaire and then processed using the SPSS program. The results showed that the variable Job Satisfaction (X1), Perception of Corporate Social Responsibility (X2), Artificial Intelligence (X4) had a positive influence on the variable Employee Performance (Y). While the Organizational Trust (X3) variable does not have a positive influence on the Employee Performance (Y) variable.

Firms’ corporate social irresponsibility behaviors during interplay with consumers in evolutionary game models

We employ an evolutionary game model to investigate the interaction between firms’ engagement in corporate social irresponsibility (CSI) behaviors (without violating laws) and consumers’ perception of corporate social responsibility (CSR) within a consumer market. The core paradox revolves around the trade-off between firms benefiting from pursuing economic performance without adhering to social responsibility and the maximization of social welfare achieved when firms are socially responsible, and consumers possess strong CSR perception. Through an asymmetric two-population evolutionary game model, we identify two distinct scenarios of evolutionary stable strategies based on different industrial environments. Additionally, the evolution of a healthy market is contingent upon an increase in consumers’ bargaining power, although it is also influenced by the initial states of the two-group system, resulting in path dependence as a significant feature of the system’s evolutionary equilibrium. Furthermore, we observe that the added willingness to pay for CSR, while not impacting the evolutionary outcomes, could increase the likelihood of a healthy market when consumers’ bargaining power is high. These findings underscore the diverse dynamics of firms’ CSI behaviors, which depend on transaction costs, industrial structure, and consumers’ willingness to pay, offering valuable insights from a micro perspective.

Employees' positive perceptions of corporate social responsibility create beneficial outcomes for firms and their employees: Organizational pride as a mediator

AbstractWe studied employees' responses to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program implemented within the Canadian headquarters of a global consumer goods company. Our study is timely since recent studies indicate that employees place more importance on CSR activities when evaluating current or prospective employers. A novel theoretical contribution of our study is that we combine social identity theory and the theory of appraisal of emotions to better understand employee responses. We developed and tested a model that indicates that employees' evaluation and perceptions of the authenticity of their company's CSR efforts can create both firm‐beneficial (loyalty, trust in management, positive word‐of‐mouth) and employee‐beneficial outcomes (job satisfaction, emotional well‐being). The impact of CSR does not result directly—it is mediated by organizational pride. We also collected qualitative data that suggested that the company's CSR initiatives can contribute to employees' sense of meaning of their work. We discuss implications for researchers and managers, as well as limitations of the study.

Examining Employee Perceptions of External Corporate Social Responsibility Initiatives in the Nepalese Banking Sector: A Descriptive Analysis

The study aimed to explore employee perceptions of external corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in the Nepalese banking sector. The study used a descriptive research design and collected primary data using questionnaires distributed to employees of commercial banks in Nepal. A real sample was used, and the sample size was 40 participants. The study results show that employees have a positive perception of their company's external CSR efforts, including charitable contributions and environmental initiatives. Importantly, demographic factors like gender, marital status, age, years of service, and education do not significantly influence these perceptions. Thus, the organization’s commitment to external CSR appears consistent across diverse employee demographics. Future researchers can explore the relationship between employees' active involvement in CSR activities, such as volunteering, and their perceptions of the company's CSR commitment.

Corporate social responsibility is getting more and more attention from academia and managers, particularly in terms of how consumers perceive and react to corporate social responsibility or CSR. Nonetheless, the majority of this research was carried out from the perspective of advanced nations. It demonstrates the need for more research on how consumers in emerging nations perceive corporate social responsibility. This study will look at the perception of consumers of Pakistan being a developing country. The study's contradictory findings imply that CSR is still an idea that has to be implemented in underdeveloped nations. Consumers often have little knowledge of and are unsupportive of CSR. This finding is contrary to consumers’ perception in developed nations, who are willing to support corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives launched by organizations.

Lessons learned in medical students’ remote social responsibility experiences during COVID-19 pandemic

Background: With the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, face-to-face medical education was interrupted. To make first-year students a part of the fight against the pandemic, “We, as well, are in the Fight Against Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)!” remote social responsibility project was implemented in May 2020. Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the perceptions and opinions of medical students regarding their remote social responsibility experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Thematic content analysis of short-written reflection data collected to provide a deep insight into the experiences of the medical students was carried out. Results: The meaning and achievements of the remote social responsibility project revealed seven themes: “perception of social responsibility”, “perception of being medical students”, “perception of being a physician”, “fight against the pandemic”, “affective achievements”, “acquisition of generic skills” and “corporate commitment”. The findings draw attention to understanding the meaning of social responsibility, medical students’ and physicians’ role and responsibility in protecting health during the pandemic. Conclusion: Medical students providing social responsibility opportunities for their students during the pandemic enables them to be a part of the fight against the pandemic and ensure important gains. These gains also valuable in preparing them for pandemics and similar emergencies in their future professional lives. In addition, competencies such as communication in crisis environment, access to evidence-based information, informing the society that will prepare for crisis situations should be gained in the medical education.

This study delves into the unfamiliar territory of employees' views on CSR, recognizing that corporate culture and competencies contribute to competitive advantages. Employee perceptions of CSR activities are identified as pivotal in fostering the degree of employee commitment to their organization and its impact on the general efficiency of the corporation. An in-depth analysis of employees' perceptions of corporate social responsibility (CSR) encompasses crucial elements, particularly the perceived alignment between company culture and CSR capacity. This investigation provides insights into the diverse effects of CSR perceptions on overall corporate performance. The present study aims to evaluate the impact of perceived cultural fit and corporate social responsibility (CSR) competence on employee attachment and performance. This relationship is expected to be mediated by employees' views of CSR activities. The results highlight the significant impact of perceived cultural fit and CSR capabilities on the perception of corporate social responsibility (CSR), which in turn affects employee attachment and accomplishments positively. Consequently, companies are urged to take into account employees' perceptions of CSR, aligning them with feelings of attachment and long-term performance. These results hold significant implications for marketing theory and practice.

Social responsibility and green practices in organizational performance: Corporate image as mediating mechanism

Sustainability-related endeavors are progressively employed to cultivate a favorable business reputation that enhances consumer loyalty and, as a result, enhances organizational performance. This study is situated within a specific research issue and seeks to examine the mediating function of corporate image in the association between social and moral responsibility, green practices in the workplace, and organizational performance. The study sample consisted of 223 individuals who were employed as workers, ranging in age from 18 to 64 years. The study was operationalized using a quantitative methodology. Data were collected through four questionnaires assessing employees' perceptions of social and moral responsibility, green practices in the workplace, corporate image, and the performance of the organization where they work. The results revealed that social and moral responsibility, green practices in the workplace, and corporate image have a significant positive influence on organizational performance. It was also found that when corporate image enters the model with the status of a mediating variable, the effect of social and moral responsibility on organizational performance decreases but remains significant. These results suggest that when organizational performance is evaluated, the importance attributed to corporate image overlaps with social and moral responsibility. This research highlights the importance of cultivating a positive corporate image. It also helps to increase perceptions of the organization's social and environmental responsibility and to strengthen customer loyalty by improving its reputation and fostering higher levels of trust. These improvements can subsequently increase sales, boost profits, and expand the organization's market share.

This study investigated factors influencing individuals' preference for Voluntary Non-Remunerated Blood Donation(VNRD) to promote its adoption. Motivational factors, social responsibility perception, and blood donation frequency were identified as determinants of VNRD choice. A survey involving 378 public officials and 1,646 individuals from the general public was analyzed using a structural equation model. The results showed that self-satisfaction, altruism, profit pursuit, and blood donation drive positively influenced the choice of VNRD. Moreover, heightened awareness of social responsibility among local governments was associated with increased VNRD preference. The study advocates active engagement with local governments through a local community-centric public-private partnership system to boost blood donation. Regarding the influence of the frequency of blood donation participation on the choice of VNRD, it was found that, in the case of public officials, the frequency of blood donation participation did not significantly impact the motivation for choosing VNRD.

Do Perceptions of Destination Social Responsibility Contribute to Environmentally Responsible Behavior? A Case Study in Phu Quoc, Vietnam

This study examined the direct and indirect relationships between perceptions of destination social responsibility and environmentally responsible behavior. This paper uses the Stimulus–Organism–Response theory to evaluate the mediating roles of identification, reputation, and satisfaction of the destination for visitors. With a sample size of 371 Vietnamese tourists, PLS-SEM was used to assess the model and test the hypothesis. The findings indicate that the perception of destination social responsibility positively impacts Vietnamese tourists’ commitment to environmentally responsible behavior. The results also support the concept that the degree of tourists’ environmentally responsible behavior is indirectly influenced by the perceived social responsibility of the destination through its identification, reputation, and satisfaction. This study offers theoretical and practical insights into how to enhance the efficiency of destination social responsibility programs and improve Vietnamese tourist’s impressions of Phu Quoc.

First-year nursing students' perceptions of health activism and social responsibility — A cross sectional study

BackgroundSocial responsibility and health activism both represent key concepts and professional values in nursing practice. Nevertheless, definitions in the nursing literature remain inconsistent, and little is known regarding nursing students' perceptions of these concepts or about the associations between these perceptions. ObjectivesThis research explores: a) the associations between nursing students' perceptions of social responsibility and health activism; and b) the differences in nursing students' perceptions of social responsibility and health activism according to their personal characteristics. Design and methodsAcross-sectional survey design was conducted with a sample of 173 Israeli first-year undergraduate nursing students. Questions were uploaded in the format provided by a commercial Internet survey provider (Qualtrics.com) and distributed through social media groups. ResultsPositive correlations were found between health activism and social responsibility and between health activism and philanthropic and environmental responsibility. Significant differences were found in the research variables according to the students' cultural group and voluntary service. Cultural group and social responsibility explained 25 % of students' variance in health activism. ConclusionsFaculty and nurse educators should promote and develop nursing students' knowledge acquisition in health activism and social responsibility throughout all their years of study. It is recommended that nursing students be given meaningful opportunities to discuss, integrate, and apply health activism, guided by role models in clinical practice. Academic settings should also promote the value of social responsibility and support nursing students in taking active roles in social organizations in order to further develop and integrate the social component of their professional role.

Customer perception of corporate social responsibility and its impact on customer engagement: critical significance of corporate reputation

PurposeThe primary goal of this research is to examine how corporate social responsibility (CSR) affects customer engagement (CE) and how corporate reputation (CR) serves as a mediator of this relationship.Design/methodology/approachThe data for this paper were gathered from the customers who were actively engaging with the banks. A total of 445 questionnaires were circulated among the respondents, 397 were selected after removing the faulty ones, which estimates around 90% of the total questionnaire distributed. Customers were asked to record their perceptions regarding CSR, CR and CE. The data were collected from both the regions of Jammu and Kashmir simultaneously.FindingsThe findings reinforced the hypothesized associations, indicating that CR successfully and positively mediates the association between CSR and CE.Practical implicationsThe outcomes of this study will assist top managers in the organization in understanding the significant impact of CSR and CR, as well as how they both positively impact the CE.Originality/valueThis research introduces a fresh dimension by exploring the influence of cognitive biases in shaping the relationship between CSR efforts, reputation-building and customer engagement. Through this innovative approach, the study establishes a more intricate and comprehensive link between theories, shedding light on the underlying mechanisms that drive these dynamics within the realm of corporate behavior and consumer perceptions.

Purpose: This paper explores the evolution of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and focuses on how banks have expanded their CSR activities beyond traditional banking roles, particularly during the pandemic. It highlights the critical role CSR plays in addressing challenges and fostering a socially responsible corporate landscape. With a special emphasis on the diverse aspects of CSR practices, this paper will explore how company responsibilities and social obligations have advanced over time. It includes the compiled report of CSR expenditures of selected public sector banks in India. And encompasses the challenges faced by the banking sector and the significance of CSR in addressing them. The research also throws light on potential criticisms or shortcomings in the selected banks' approaches. Lastly, this paper will talk about how some banks have come forward with diverse aspects of social obligation and shored up an important position during the pandemic. Design/Methodology/Approach: This paper is conceptually written, involving a cross-sectional study entailing the qualitative analysis of various CSR activities taken up by banks in India during the pandemic. To analyze the spending and CSR activities, data was collected from the bank's annual reports and their websites Findings: This article discusses how Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is transforming into a "self-regulating business approach." considering both performance and the influence of stakeholders. This suggests that a certain perception of social responsibility largely stems from an organization's interactions with its stakeholders and the public. As for the pandemic, CSR initiatives have shifted their focus towards combating COVID-19, with the potential for indirect benefits to the organization.
