The Effect of Information Technology Perceptions and Complaint Handling on Customer Interests in Using BMM Mobile at PT. Bank Maluku Malut KC Ternate

This study aims to determine and analyze the influence of information technology perceptions and complaint handling on customer interest in using mobile BMM at PT Bank Maluku Malut KC Ternate. The method used in this study is multiple regression analysis using an instrument test consisting of a validity and reliability test, then the classical assumption test, namely the normality test, multicollinearity test, and heteroscedasticity test, and the hypothesis test, namely the t test and F test. The results of this study show that perceptions of information technology have a positive and significant effect on customer interest in using BMM Mobile at PT Bank Maluku Malut KC Ternate, and that handling complaints has a positive and significant effect on customer interest in using BMM Mobile at PT Bank Maluku Malut KC Ternate. And the results of the simultaneous test of information technology perceptions and complaint handling have a positive and significant effect on customer interest in using BMM Mobile at PT Bank Maluku Malut KC Ternate.

ANALYSIS OF THE FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE CUSTOMER INTEREST IN USING MOBILE BANKING AT PT. BANK NTB SYARIAH ALAS SUB-BRANCH

Many customers prefer ATMs or come directly to bank offices to do banking transactions. It can lead to crowds considering that the pandemic is not over yet. It is one of the considerations of PT. Bank NTB Syariah launched a mobile banking application as a service facility to facilitate customers' transacting. The use of mobile banking is still relatively new to the public. Currently, the number of mobile banking users of Bank NTB Syariah Alas Sub-Branch has not met the number of targets achieved in several quarters. This study aimed to analyze the factors influencing customer interest in mobile banking. The sample in this study amounted to 100, which are customers who are users of mobile banking users of PT. Bank NTB Syariah Alas Sub-Branch. The statistical tool used in this research is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with LISREL 8.80 statistical software approach. The results of this study indicate that the factors that influence customer interest are Perception of Information Technology (X1), Ease of Use (X2), Risk (X3), and Service Features (X4). These factors have a significant simultaneous effect. The coefficient of determination obtained is 84%, which means that customer interest in using mobile banking is influenced by elements of information technology perception, risk, trust, and service features, while the remaining 16% is influenced by other variables not discussed in this study.

Exploring students’ literacy of information technology in higher education: Platforms and usage

At present time, information technology (IT) is widely used in society. At any level of school, students use them for a variety of reasons to find, share, and discuss specific topics. By using technology, integrating IT into the basic professional learning curriculum course has not been created into a new format of instructional design. The purpose of this study is to find out how students feel about the platform and how they use technology in a basic professional learning curriculum course. It is a quantitative descriptive research that assesses students' perceptions of information technology in relation to specific topics. According to the findings of the study, the majority of students in the age range of 20–21 years stated that the most appropriate platform to be integrated in the basic professional learning curriculum course and learning efficiency was achieved for the majority of them by the age range of the respondents from 17 to 19 years. IT has infiltrated virtually every facet of society, including education. It is envisaged that the findings of this study would be used as a foundation for the development of IT integration in basic professional learning curriculum courses in order to maximize student learning outcomes.

Classification and Prediction of Software Incidents Using Machine Learning Techniques

An incident, in the perception of information technology, is an event that is not part of a normal process and disrupts operational procedure. This research work particularly focuses on software failure incidents. In any operational environment, software failure can put the quality and performance of services at risk. Many efforts are made to overcome this incident of software failure and to restore normal service as soon as possible. The main contribution of this study is software failure incidents classification and prediction using machine learning. In this study, an active learning approach is used to selectively label those data which is considered to be more informative to build models. Firstly, the sample with the highest randomness (entropy) is selected for labeling. Secondly, to classify the labeled observation into either failure or no failure classes, a binary classifier is used that predicts the target class label as failure or not. For classification, Support Vector Machine is used as a main classifier to classify the data. We derived our prediction models from the failure log files collected from the ECLIPSE software repository.

Diagnostic of Data Processing by Brazilian Organizations—A Low Compliance Issue

In order to guarantee the privacy of users’ data, the Brazilian government created the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD). This article made a diagnostic of Brazilian organizations in relation to their suitability for LGPD, based on the perception of Information Technology (IT) practitioners who work in these organizations. We used a survey with 41 questions to diagnose different Brazilian organizations, both public and private. The diagnostic questionnaire was answered by 105 IT practitioners. The results show that 27% of organizations process personal data of public access based on good faith and LGPD principles. In addition, our findings also revealed that 16.3% of organizations have not established a procedure or methodology to verify that the LGPD principles are being respected during the development of services that will handle personal data from the product or service design phase to its execution and 20% of the organizations did not establish a communication process to the personal data holders, regarding the possible data breaches. The result of the diagnostic allows organizations and data users to have an overview of how the treatment of personal data of their customers is being treated and which points of attention are in relation to the principles of LGPD.

Technology symbolization: political mechanism of local e-government adoption and implementation

Why did some local e-government projects start off with a bang but end with a whimper? Using the case study of an online administrative approval system in Jiangmen, China, this study explores the political mechanism behind the adoption and implementation of local e-government projects. We propose a framework for analyzing the adoption and implementation of e-government projects that encompasses three aspects: environment (political institutions); process (perceptions of information technology, power relations, and strategic interaction); and performance. The political environment shapes people’s perceptions of information technology and provides motivations and constraints for relevant stakeholders. Stakeholders choose different strategies and actions based on their positions in the power structure, which finally influences the performance of the project. In this study, due to local government leaders’ motivation to seek political achievement and subordinate agencies’ strategic responses in the Chinese political system, the online system finally turned into a symbolic tool that did very little to improve government performance. Points for practitioners • A framework is proposed for analyzing the adoption and implementation of e-government projects that encompasses three aspects: environment (political institutions); process (perceptions of information technology, power relations, and strategic interaction); and performance. • A concept—technology symbolization—is emphasized by exploring the ways in which e-government can be used as a promotion tool for local officials. • With the advent of the new generations of information technology, e-government practitioners cannot ignore the political environment and the impact of political institutions on information technology implementation.

ANALYSIS OF MARKETING TOURISM FACTORS IN BANDUNG CITY’S LEADING TOURISM OBJECTS

Based on measurements made by Frontier Consulting Group and Tempo Media Group, the tourism index of Bandung City is one of the highest in Indonesia, reaching 95.30 or higher than Denpasar City with Tourism Index 87.65 and City of Yogyakarta with Tourism Index 85.68.
 Bandung has many excellent tourist objects that have their attraction. Bandung, as a creative city, always tries to create a different tourism concept. It is done as a marketing tourism strategy to increase the number of tourists who come to visit the city of Bandung. This research examines how much these factors influence marketing tourism, and which factors are the most dominant in affecting marketing tourism. Based on the result of the six tourism marketing factors, namely economic factors, social factors, cultural factors, tourist attraction factors, perceptions of information technology, and environmental perception factors, which were previously formed by 31 manifest variables. The dominant new factor found in representing the factors of tourism marketing, namely the environmental attractiveness factor.

The social representation of success in IT projects

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to unveil the perception of information technology (IT) professionals in Brazil regarding the success of IT projects. Design/methodology/approach By using the social representation theory and the words evocation technique, data were collected from IT professionals in Brazil, being subsequently processed so as to identify the central nucleus of the social representation of the success of IT projects for IT professionals in Brazil. Findings IT professionals in Brazil perceive the central core of the social representation of the success of IT projects as formed by “satisfaction” and “scope.” Furthermore, while a considerable amount of IT professionals in Brazil still consider cost, quality and time as relevant factors for the success of IT projects, they do not consider them the most important factors. Moreover, these professionals overlook the financial dimension of the success of IT projects. Research limitations/implications Errors of inference may have been made during the categorization of the words evoked. Furthermore, the sample adopted refers exclusively to IT professionals in Brazil, which limits the universality of the work. Practical implications Organizations and project management associations must take into account the utmost importance of customer satisfaction for the success of IT projects. Besides, these associations must develop IT project success criteria that account for the financial, business and strategic impact of the success of IT projects in organizations. Originality/value IT project success is perceived by IT professionals in Brazil merely from the adherence to scope and customer satisfaction dimensions, leaving aside the importance of project profitability and the strategic impacts of same in the performance of organizations, as well as their future.

Virtual team experiences in an emerging economy: a qualitative study

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to document the experiences of team members in order to map the kinds of experiential outcomes that they report while working in virtual teams. The study will help to expand the understanding of various issues related to virtual work arrangements from the perceptions of information technology (IT) professionals in India.Design/methodology/approachThe study was conducted by adopting an exploratory approach with the use of qualitative methodology. The method of sampling adopted was purposive cum snowball sampling. Semi-structured interviews (face-to-face and telephonic) were conducted by taking a sample of 52 respondents, who are employed by IT organisations. The interviews were recorded digitally, transcribed and analysed by using the content-coding approach followed by a thematic analysis.FindingsThe foremost contribution of the study is that it has considered the various motivators and the skills required to be a successful virtual team player. Significant challenges encountered in virtual teams have also been identified.Practical implicationsVirtual teams in the contemporary business environment are evolving with an unparalleled velocity. The findings of the paper have implications for managers, team leaders and change agents regarding how to transform and sustain in the rapidly changing business context of emerging economies.Originality/valueIn the extant literature on virtual teams very little is known about how individual members perceive this new form of teamwork. The findings of the study advance research on the topic of virtual teams by lending empirical support with respect to the interaction effects between IT and human beings. Recommendations have been provided for individual team members and organisations.

Employers’ perspectives on new information technology technicians’ employability in North Florida

PurposeIn response to recent calls for research relating to employers’ perceptions of the workplace readiness of new graduates in a variety of fields, the purpose of this paper is to report North Florida employers’ perceptions of information technology (IT) program graduates’ workplace readiness. These findings are relevant to stakeholders in growing technology regions.Design/methodology/approachResearchers conducted 18 semi-structured interviews with IT employers in North Florida. Data were deductively coded with codes derived from national standards. Interviewee verbatim was also inductively coded by theme.FindingsWhile employers valued a blend of technical and general skills and hands-on experience, they also sought new professionals who possessed fundamental understandings of business and computer programming to tailor their problem-solving skills to the specific company environment.Research limitations/implicationsThis research represents a limited number of employer viewpoints in one representative community.Practical implicationsOngoing industry input into curricula and expanded experiential opportunities may ensure that graduates are prepared to address current and future IT developments. Because the region under study was typical of many regions with growing technology sectors, these findings may inform partnerships, curriculum, and program design.Originality/valueGiven the rapid growth and constant advances of the IT sector, institutions with IT degree programs are challenged to ensure that their curricula are current and meeting the needs of employers. This study’s findings may offer timely insight into elements of workforce preparedness.

From Bhutan, with Love : Exploring the Perceptions of Bhutanese Students Studying Tourism and Hospitality in an Indian University

The paper explored the perceptions of Bhutanese students studying tourism and hospitality in a private Indian university. Interviews with 21 students enrolled in 'Airlines, Tourism and Hospitality' degree program were conducted followed by focus group. The study explored the participants' perceptions about India, motivation to study tourism, viewpoints on the way of teaching, use of information technology in academics, and language at the place of study. The findings revealed that participants mostly held unfavourable pre-departure (prior) perceptions about the country, which eventually transformed to more favourable as the interface with the place of study grew. Participants' interest in the program could be attributed to the appeal towards tourism, especially in the hopes of a career in airlines. They also perceived the program to be more theoretical than practical and more inclined towards hospitality learning rather than tourism. Perceptions of information technology used in the university were positive and participants acknowledged challenges related to the language in the place of study.

The Holistic Perception of Information Technology and The Importance on the Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Management (SCM) includes management of materials, products, services, information and financial flows which network of consisting suppliers, manufacturers, logistics service companies, and clients. The individual elements of this chain with coordination and integration of each element to perform themselves ensure successful of SCM. Information technology has a very important role in activities for coordination and integration of supply chain. Acceleration of sharing information, simplification and increasing of reliability provide effective use of time in logistics companies, cost savings like effective management ways. In this prepared study which taking into account the positive impact on supply chain of information technologies, it was investigated on the effectiveness of sharing information of supply chain by examining infrastructure of the information technology, ranging from the production of raw materials to the end user in SCM. The results of the analyses by using the structural equation model indicate that the use of information technology in supply chain management enhances the relationship between buyer-supplier; the enhancement of such relationship improves the quality, safety, and flexibility of products and reduces the cost of products; as a result, it increases firm performance.

Information technology skills and training needs of health information management professionals in Nigeria: a nationwide study.

There is a lack of effective health information management systems in Nigeria due to the prevalence of cumbersome paper-based and disjointed health data management systems. This can make informed healthcare decision making difficult. This study examined the information technology (IT) skills, utilisation and training needs of Nigerian health information management professionals. We deployed a cross-sectional structured questionnaire to determine the IT skills and training needs of health information management professionals who have leadership roles in the nation's healthcare information systems (n=374). It was found that ownership of a computer, level of education and age were associated with knowledge and perception of IT. The vast majority of participants (98.8%) acknowledged the importance and relevance of IT in healthcare information systems and many expressed a desire for further IT training, especially in statistical analysis. Despite this, few (8.1 %) worked in settings where such systems operate and there exists an IT skill gap among these professionals which is not compatible with their roles in healthcare information systems. To rectify this anomaly they require continuing professional development education, especially in the areas of health IT. Government intervention in the provision of IT infrastructure in order to put into practice a computerised healthcare information system would therefore be a worthwhile undertaking.

Role of lifestyle orientation and perceived organizational functioning in psychological empowerment of IT professionals

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to explore the role of lifestyle orientation and perceived organizational functioning in psychological empowerment perceptions of information technology (IT) professionals.Design/methodology/approachThis study is a cross‐sectional survey of 242 IT professionals across ten software product and services companies based in India. Established scales of the research instruments were used for data collection.FindingsFindings indicate that professionals with aggressive, individualistic and resistive lifestyle orientation are likely to feel more psychologically empowered. Organizational functioning is also found to have a strong effect on psychological empowerment perceptions of IT professionals.Research limitations/implicationsUse of self‐reported measures for all the variables may cause desirability bias on the part of participants. Future studies may explore demographic differences and incorporate empowerment climate as well.Practical implicationsInsights from the study would help organizations facilitate employee performance using the empowerment tool and consequently gain competitive advantage by retaining skills and experience within the organization rather than outside it.Originality/valueStudies of such nature being few in the Indian IT context, findings present both opportunities and challenges for IT human resource managers and can also be taken up for future research work.

Managerial Perceptions of Information Technology and their Impact from a Transaction Cost Perspective

ABSTRACT This article addresses the questions of how hotel managers perceive the impact of information technology (IT) on hotel service operations, particularly transaction costs, and whether its impact on these costs affects the decision-making framework. A multiple case study approach using a two-stage interview process was adopted. This comprised a closed, fixed-response questionnaire administered to a group of managers followed by a standardized, open-ended interview intended to capture both objective and subjective views. Although the managers objectively identified a positive impact for IT, their subjective views indicated that this impact is only superficial. This gap points to the existence of bounded rationality in managerial decision making about state-of-the-art IT systems.

How employees' perception of information technology application and their knowledge management capacity influence organisational performance

This study investigates how workers' gender, work experience, designated division, and appointment affect (i) their perception of information technology (IT) within the organisation, (ii) their self-perceived capacity in knowledge management (KM), and (iii) their perception of organisational performance (OP). Furthermore, the study also examines the correlation among the above three dimensions by using t-test, one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Pearson correlation and stepwise regression analysis. These results show a positive correlation among IT application, KM capacity, and OP. In addition, the study discovers that (i) adequate IT investment and acceptance will improve employees' KM capacity, (ii) appropriate IT investment and training and employees' knowledge replication ability can better predict organisational outcomes, and (iii) employees' KM capacity is a better predictor of OP than IT application. Results also show that personal factors do affect workers' perception of the organisation's IT application, their KM capacity, and overall OP.

Information technology in Chile: How perceptions and use are related to age, gender, and social class

A survey was conducted in two cities in Chile to determine the perceptions and use of information technology (IT) by people of different ages and genders, and from different social classes. The survey results show that the main variable influencing IT use and perception is social class: the higher a user's social class, the more positive their perception of IT and the more frequent their use. In contrast, age is generally inversely correlated to the perception and use of IT. In the case of gender, the data indicates that it has the least importance when explaining differences in use and perception of IT. Finally, the study found a “social halo effect” regarding people's perception of IT usefulness. In general, individuals perceive IT to be more useful for society at large than it is useful for them.

Graduate Accounting Students' Perception of IT Forensics: A Multi-Dimensional Analysis

Forensics and information technology (IT) have become increasingly important to accountants and auditors. Undergraduate accounting students are introduced to general IT topics but discussion of forensic knowledge is limited. A few schools have introduced an undergraduate major in forensic accounting. Some graduate schools offer accounting students an emphasis in forensic or fraud accounting that includes instruction in forensics and information technology. When students do not view the IT topics as being equally important to their careers as traditional accounting topics, these attitudes may reduce the quality of the course. In an effort to assess student attitudes, a survey of 46 graduate accounting students was conducted to measure two dimensions − knowledge and skills and interest and enjoyment − along nine common topics found in a forensics IT course. The association of the two dimensions was then measured. Also, the relationship between IT attitudes and the nine topics was measured along both dimensions. Fifteen hypotheses are presented and tested. Results are discussed to posit what instructors can do in order to increase the quality of the class and the positive perception of IT for accounting students.
