Survey of King Khalid University EFL Staff’s Perceptions of Professional Ethics: A Broad Islamic Ethical and Educational Perspective

Professional ethics in teaching and training has commonly a unique honor between faculty members and students. This study was conducted to explore King Khalid University EFL staff members' perceptions of professional ethics from a broad Islamic ethical and educational perspective. To achieve the objectives of the study the two researchers adopted the descriptive survey method because of its suitability. For the data collection, a 15-item questionnaire was distributed to a purposive sample comprising 100 male and female EFL staff members who were randomly selected from all colleges of King Khalid University during semester three 2023 (A.D.) The findings of this study revealed that both male and female participants had a greater number of positive responses regarding the professional ethics components of teaching and training. There are many elements associated with the professional ethics of male and female EFL staff because of the significant influence of university settings in general, and of King Khalid University in particular. These elements are related to the future of university students and to teachers’ responsibility to ensure that students are educated appropriately so that they can contribute to making societies more civilized, refined and educated. The results of the present study indicate that the following are the most important elements of professional ethics in teaching and training: educating students, maintaining high standards of morals and work ethics, and organizing a relevant and appropriate incentive scheme to encourage students to behave appropriately in terms of academic performance as well as conduct.

Exploring Pre-Service Teachers' Perceptions about Professional Ethics in Teaching: Do Gender, Major, and Academic Achievement Matter?

This study aims to explore whether there is a statistically significant difference in pre-service teachers’ perceptions of professional ethics in teaching according to gender, major and academic achievement. The data was collected from 541 conveniently sampled pre-service teachers from seven different majors and four state universities using a 43-item scale developed by the researchers. The data was analyzed using Linear Regression Analysis in R. The results indicated that gender was a significant predictor of pre-service teachers’ perceptions of professional ethics in teaching, and that females held significantly more ethical perceptions about the teaching profession compared to the males. The results also indicated that pre-service teachers’ majors did not seem to have a significant effect on their ethical perceptions about the teaching profession with the sole exception of classroom teaching. The results further revealed that academic achievement was not a significant predictor of pre-service teachers’ perceptions about their profession. However, when gender was used as a covariate, the analysis indicated that teachers’ majors were a significant predictor of pre-service teachers’ perceptions of professional ethics in teaching. The results further indicated that academic achievement was not a significant predictor of pre-service teachers’ perceptions about their profession even when the pre-service teachers’ gender and major were controlled.

Teachers’ Perception of Professional Ethics and Its Impact on Their Professionalism

This study was aimed at investigating teachers’ perception of professional ethics and its impact on their professionalism. Four districts from each of two zones, namely, Gamo and South Omo were selected using lottery methods. One primary school and one secondary school were selected using lottery method and further, teachers from the selected schools were taken totally using convenient sampling. To get as dependable data as possible, the study involved a mix of qualitative and quantitative approach. A questionnaire, which was developed by the investigators, was used after carrying out pilot study. To see how teachers perceive their codes of professional ethics, qualitatively gathered data was analyzed through description, frequency tables and histograms. To see the role teachers’ perception of their code of professional ethics in their professionalism, linear regressions was used. To investigate whether teachers’ sex modify the relationship between their perception of professional ethics and professionalism, an independent sample t-test was used. The result has indicated that many teachers perceive that they are fully compliant to the professional ethics, and they thought that their obedience to professional ethics has resulted from their conscience. Besides, the result has given us that for teachers’ who attribute the source of their professional ethical stand to moral responsibility, their professionalism was found to be significantly affected by their perception. An independent sample t-test has shown us that teachers’ there was no significant gender difference in professional ethical stand. Similarly, it has been revealed that there is no significant difference in perception of professional ethics between teachers of primary and secondary schools.

Analysis of Accounting Student Perceptions on the Professional Ethics of Accounting: Case Study at Higher Education in Medan

The purpose of this study is to identify the tendency of accounting students' perceptions in Medan to professional ethics. Understanding of students' perceptions of professional ethics is very important to be used as a basis for the preparation of teaching materials in lectures. By understanding students' perceptions of ethics, lecturers can give emphasis to certain subjects, adjusted to the dynamics that exist. The expected contribution of the results of this study is primarily in the field of professional ethics studies, where this field of study has become one of the fields of study that stands alone, bearing in mind that ethical issues in practice are still ongoing. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires to 374 accounting students in four tertiary institutions which were selected based on the highest number of active students based on the Dikti forlap data. The tertiary institution that is the place of research is a college that has an employee class. Hypothesis testing is done by a different test. The university teachers’ professional ethics from the students’ perspective

The article’s purpose is to describe some results of the research of students’ representations about the professional ethics of University teachers. The sample includes full-time and part-time students of psychological and pedagogical education. The diagnostic instrument was questionnaire “Customer Perceptions of professional ethics of the specialist”. It was revealed that students mainly note the orientation of the teachers’ professional ethics standards to their own professional interests, note the compliance of teachers’ personal characteristics with ethical requirements, and consider the job instructions to be the basis for the content of ethical standards in the teacher’s activity. Differences in the views of full-time and part-time students were found. Full-time students pay more attention to teachers’ personal characteristics as proof of compliance with ethical standards. Part-time students give a higher evaluation of teachers’ orientation to the professional community interests and needs of other ethic application objects (not only professional and client), as well as give a higher evaluation of law and universal values and culture as origins of teachers’ professional ethics.

Development and validation of a professional ethics scale for pre-service teachers

The purpose of this study was to develop a scale to investigate Turkish pre-service teachers' perceptions of professional ethics in teaching. This survey research consisted of two studies. In study 1, an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed in SPSS 23 in order to investigate the scale’s factorial structure. Study 1 involved a convenience sample of 220 senior pre-service teachers studying at two Turkish public universities. The EFA yielded a single factor structure which accounted for 39.36% of the total variance and included 43 items. In study 2, a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted in LISREL 9.30 to test and confirm the uni-dimensional structure of the 43-item scale obtained in study 1 on a data set of 724 participants from four public universities. Overall, the results prove that this 43-item scale is a valid and reliable tool to test pre-service teachers’ perceptions of professional ethics.

Factors in Ethical Decision Making By Tax Consultants: Individual and Situational. The purpose of this research is to find the effect of professional ethics, machiavellianism, and risk preferences on ethical decision making by tax consultants. The independent variable in this study is the Perception of Professional Ethics, Machiavellianism and Risk Preference, while Ethical Decision Making is the dependent variable. The research used a quantitative approach with data collection methods through questionnaires. The sample used was 100 tax consultants registered at the IKPI Bali Branch. Data analysis using multiple linear regression. The results showed that the Perception of Professional Ethics, Machiavellianism, and Risk Preference together had a significant effect on Ethical Decision Making. The Perception of Professional Ethics partially has a positive and significant effect on Ethical Decision Making. Machiavellianism partially has a negative and significant effect on Ethical Decision Making. While the Risk Preference partially has a negative and significant effect on Ethical Decision Making. An Exploratory Study on Pre-service Teachers’ Subjective Perception of Professional Ethics in Teaching

Interrogating absence: the lawyer in science fiction

This article argues that whilst concepts of law and justice can be seen as prominent in much science fiction, the role of lawyer is mostly absent. This article interrogates these absences and asks whether they can be traced back to contemporary concerns around professional ethics. Three potential absences are noted; firstly, justice is considered as immanent. In these fictional futures lawyers have become unnecessary due to the immediacy of the legal system. The second conceptualisation portrays lawyers as intertwined with corporate interests. In these speculative moments lawyers have become culturally indistinguishable from other types of corporate entities. The final science fictive texts highlight a desire for the lawyer-hero. In these texts justice is overwhelmingly absent and shows a continuing need for legal professionals. Each of these cultural moments presents important questions for current understandings of professional ethics and the regulatory systems in which they are based. A removal of lawyers from our shared understandings of the future is indicative of potential problems with perceptions of professional ethics in the present.

Professional Integrity in Higher Education: A Study of Administrative Staff Ethics in Student Affairs

This study examined administrative staff perceptions of professional ethics in a student affairs division at one university. Indepth interviews were conducted with 12 staff members (six assistant/associate vice presidents and six directors) and analyzed using the constant comparative method. Participants described three dimensions of professional ethicality: regulatory, situated, and collective. Discussion focuses on the inadequacy of personal or professional values alone to guide complex ethical reasoning in higher education, as well as the need for creating and sustaining ethical environments in student affairs through ethical modeling and relational leadership.

Ethical standards appear to change with age and ideology: a survey of practitioners

The purpose of this paper is to investigate public relations practitioners’ different perceptions of professional ethics by cohort and personal ethical ideology. The results showed that both age and personal ethical ideology (idealism and relativism) had significant effects on the ethical judgment of professional ethics. Older respondents showed high idealism and low relativism, and a higher level of agreement with professional ethics. Absolutists, who are practitioners with high idealism and low relativism, showed stricter judgment of professional ethics than practitioners with other ethical ideologies. This study found that cohort and individuals’ ethical ideology can be important variables in explaining the outcomes of an individual’s ethical decision-making.

Effect of professional socialization on quantity surveyors' ethical perceptions in Hong Kong

This paper proposes conducting extensive cross‐profession comparison regarding perceptions of various professionals towards professional ethics as the first step in professional ethics inquiry. The authors argue that concepts and perceptions of professional ethics result from the prolonged professional socialization process during both college/university and industry training. Differences in professional ethics conceptions both within and between professions can be ascribed to differences in training. For college/university training these differences may lie in varying professional course contents and arrangements, diverse educational professional development (CPD) courses offered by various professional institutions, codes of conduct drafted by professional institutions and corporations, personal work experience may account for these differences. However, this pluralist explanation of these differences is not the end of the inquiry, but rather explicitly points to the difficulty of resolving the conceptual array in professional ethics inquiry.

Agency practitioners' perceptions of professional ethics in Taiwan

A survey was conducted on the advertising practitioners in Taiwan concerning their experiences of ethical challenges at work. Among 120 respondents, while 32.5 percent responded that ethical problems did not exist, 67.5 percent admitted that ethical problem was a commonplace at work. According to these respondents, the most frequently mentioned ethical problems area representing unethical products or services, the message of advertisements, agency-client relationship, the creditability of research, undertable rebate, and the quality of service. Suggestions for international advertising managers were also provided by comparing the finding from the present study with earlier studies in the United States. However, due to its preliminary nature, the present study should be considered exploratory and descriptive rather than conclusive, with the hope to inspire more research on advertising ethics in Taiwan as well as in other countries in the world.
