A compressive assessment of patient satisfaction with ophthalmology with ophthalmology clinic services: A study at a tertiary care academic institution amidst and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The study aims to systematically assess patient satisfaction concerning eye care services provided during and after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic at a tertiary care academic institution. This work seeks to analyze the various dimensions influencing the holistic measure of overall patient contentment. A cohort of 2485 patients seeking physical consultation for ocular conditions at a tertiary care academic institution between April 2020 and December 2022 were recruited in a cross-sectional study. They were divided into two groups, viz. during the COVID period and post-COVID period. The primary focus was on evaluating overall satisfaction, measured through a validated patient satisfaction questionnaire (PSQ-18). The study encompassed a total of 2485 participants, with 1242 individuals in the cohort during the COVID period and 1243 in the post-COVID phase. Within the COVID period subgroup, the mean age of male and female patients was 39.46 ± 19.31 and 39.58 ± 19.07 years, respectively. In the post-COVID subgroup, the mean age of male and female patients was 45.26 ± 19.38 and 45.36 ± 19.22 years, respectively. Examining the COVID subgroup, the highest satisfaction scores were observed in the domain of time spent with the doctor (3.3453 ± 0.59), followed by financial aspects (3.0816 ± 0.47), interpersonal manner (3.0589 ± 0.37), and accessibility and convenience (3.0585 ± 0.37). Notably, technical quality received the lowest satisfaction score (2.4763 ± 0.42). A statistically significant difference (P < 0.0001) was noted in the PSQ-18 scores between the two groups. In the post-COVID subgroup, patients expressed higher satisfaction with the technical quality of treatment, irrespective of the mode of management. However, financial satisfaction was better in the COVID group. Our study using the PSQ-18 questionnaire highlights significant variations in patient satisfaction with ophthalmology clinic services during and after the COVID era. Notably, time spent with the doctor scored the highest, emphasizing its positive impact. However, addressing concerns related to technical quality is crucial for overall improvement.

Comparison of Fat Transfer Combined with Plasma Energy and Only Fat Transfer Methods for Genital Rejuvenation.

To compare the fat transfer combined with plasma energy and only fat transfer methods for genital rejuvenation and to investigate the efficacy enhancing properties of plasma energy. Forty-six patients were equally divided into two groups according to the surgical method as the group A (n = 23) and the group B (n = 23). The patients in the group A received only fat transfer, while the patients in the group B received fat transfer combined with plasma energy. Both groups were scheduled for postoperative follow-up at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months. The lifting effect on the labia majora after the procedure was evaluated with photographs and patient satisfaction questionnaires including the female genital self-image scale (FGSIS). The mean age of all participants was 32.8 ± 5.1 years, and the mean body mass index (BMI) was 24.7 ± 3.4kg/m2. The mean preoperative FGSIS scores were similar between the groups (p = 0.542). The mean total FGSIS score was 18.8 ± 1.4 in the group A and 18.3 ± 1.5 in the group B in the preoperative period. However, the mean FGSIS scores at 1, 3, and 6 months were significantly higher in the group B than the group A (p = 0.032, p = 0.012, and p = 0.009, respectively). At 6 months of follow-up, the mean total FGSIS score was 20.7 ± 1.4 in the group A and 22.3 ± 1.5 in the group B, indicating a statistically significant difference (p = 0.028). This novel technique is a more minimally invasive technique compared to other energy modalities with lower lateral and vertical energy dissipation than other conventional methods, and labia majora fat filling augmentation application can be performed with more permanent and longer-lasting outcomes than fat transfer only. OUTCOMES OF REVISION TOTAL ANKLE ARTHROPLASTY: A MINIMUM OF TWO-YEAR FOLLOW-UP

IntroductionTotal ankle replacement as a valid treatment for end stage ankle arthritis, is gaining popularity and every year there is an increasing number of procedures. With revision rates as high as 21% at 5 years and 43% at 10 years there is a need for understanding and reporting the outcome of revision ankle replacement. Our aim was to study the patient reported outcomes following revision TAR with a minimum of 2 year follow up.MethodsAll patients that underwent a revision total ankle replacement between 2012 and 2016 were included in the study. All patients received a post-operative questionnaire comprising of MOX-FQ score, EQ-5D (UK) and Foot and Ankle outcomes scores (FAOS) and patients satisfaction questionnaire with a minimum of 2 years follow up.Results33 patients had a revision total ankle replacement between 2012 and 2016. 2 patients were deceased therefore 31 patients were included in the study. 4 patients declined participation for completing questionnaires. We received 15/27 (55.5%) completed questionnaires. The mean MOX-FQ average domain score for pain was (50.6 ± 26.9), walking/standing (62.4 ± 36.5) and social function was (43.7± 31.0). The mean FAOS scores were (52.5 ± 30.6; pain), (54.5 ± 29.2; symptoms), (62.1 ± 30.5; ADL) and (35.5 ± 28.2; for quality of life). The mean overall health score today for EQ-5D was 73.9/100. 50% of patients were satisfied with the pain relief and return to sports and recreation obtained following the operation, 57% were satisfied with the improved in daily activities. 78.5% were overall satisfied with the results from surgery.ConclusionRevision total ankle replacement gives overall satisfactory results demonstrated from patients reported outcomes at a minimum of 2 years following surgery.

Development and validation of a tool to assess patient and caregiver satisfaction for minor pediatric surgical procedures

Introduction: Patient satisfaction questionnaires offer valuable perspectives on patient experiences and the quality of healthcare received. Despite their importance, a gold standard for measuring patient satisfaction in pediatric surgery remains elusive. This study introduces a patient satisfaction questionnaire designed to fill the gap in evaluating patient experiences specifically in pediatric surgical settings, aiming to create a standardized measure for assessing patient satisfaction. Methods: The think-aloud method was used with patient advisors and an expert panel of hospital stakeholders to refine a novel patient and caregiver satisfaction tool. Through an iterative process, data was gathered, analyzed and the survey progressively revised. The final survey was then pilot tested. Results: Three patient advisors and seven hospital stakeholders participated in the study. The think-aloud method was used to establish cognitive, content, and face validity. There were five distinct satisfaction domains established. Pilot testing included 30 participants and was used to establish construct validity and test-retest reliability. Conclusions: This study addresses the existing gap in measuring patient satisfaction in pediatric surgery settings. The think-aloud method was used to ensure cognitive, content, and face validity ensuring multiple domains are addressed. Pilot testing of the tool showed feasibility in both the operating room and minor procedure room setting while also demonstrating test re-test validity. These results indicate that this questionnaire holds promise for use in a variety of pediatric surgical settings. Further research is necessary to confirm these findings in larger, more diverse populations and to assess its impact on improving patient care and experiences.

The efficiency of total endoscopic surgery with preferential incision of the tendon sheath and traditional open surgery for the treatment of peroneal tendondislocation

Objective: To compare the outcomes between the patients of peroneal tendon dislocation treated by either total endoscopic surgery with preferential incision of the tendon sheath or traditional open surgery. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. The clinical data of 45 patients with peroneal tendon dislocation were operated on Department of Sports Medicine and Joint Surgery, Nanjing First Hospital from July 2016 to June 2020. There were 26 males and 19 females,aged (31.2±9.3) years (range: 17 to 45 years). Among them,23 patients underwent open peroneal tendon groove deepening followed by tendon sheath repair(traditional open group), and the other 22 patients underwent similar operations but all-endoscopically with preferential incision of peroneal tendon sheath(total endoscopic group). The perioperative data of patients were collected, and pain visual analogue score (VAS) was used to evaluate the pain changes before and after surgery and during the follow-up period, and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society anklehindfoot scale (AOFAS-AH), range of motion (ROM), the MOS item short form health survey (SF)-36, and the homemade questionnaire of patient satisfaction were used to evaluate the patients' outcomes after the operation, and CT scan was carried out to observe the deepening of the fibular groove and MRI to observe the status of the peroneal tendon and sheath during the follow-up. Independent sample t test, Wilcoxon rank sum test and repeated measure ANOVA were used for comparison of quantitative data between groups. Chi-square test,Mann-whitney U or Fisher exact test was used for comparison of classified data, respectively;and paired sample t test was used for comparison of quantitative data before and after surgery in groups. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups of patients in terms of gender, age, disease duration, side of injury, and injury typing (all P>0.05). There was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of operation time((47.9±5.4)minutes vs. (47.2±6.3)minutes;t=0.402, P=0.690), but the incision length ((2.17±0.35)cm vs. 5.97±0.42)cm;t=32.892,P<0.01)and hospitalization time ((4.0±1.7)days vs. (7.6±3.6)days;t=4.249,P<0.01) were significantly shorter in the total endoscopic group than those in the traditional open group. All patients were followed up for more than 12 months, and the follow-up time was (19.2±3.9) months (range: 12 to 24 months). The total endoscopic group showed a significant increase in VAS, AOFAS scores, SF-36 scores and patient satisfaction rate at 3 months postoperatively and the last follow-up (all P<0.05). Three months after surgery, the ROM in the total endoscope group was higher than that in the traditional group ((62.14±1.46) ° vs. (53.13±1.52) °;t=20.315, P<0.01), and there was no significant difference between the two groups at the last follow-up ((63.18±1.10) ° vs. (63.48±2.43) °;t=0.531, P=0.599). Conclusion: Total endoscopic surgery with preferential incision of the tendon sheath has the advantages of minimally invasivenessas compared with traditional open surgery with faster recovery and better outcome.

Feasibility of Computerized Visuomotor Integration System for Visual Field Defects and Spatial Neglect in Poststroke Patients.

To develop a computerized visuomotor integration system for assessment and training of visual perception impairments and evaluate its safety and feasibility in patients with a stroke. Visual field defects and spatial neglect lead to substantial poststroke impairment. Most diagnostic assessments are anchored in traditional methods, and clinical effects of rehabilitation treatments are limited. The CoTras Vision system included two evaluations and four training modules. The evaluation modules were based on the Albert's test and Star cancellation test, and training modules were based on visual tracking, central-peripheral integration, and visuomotor perception techniques. Bland-Altman plots for agreement with the traditional paper-and-pencil test were performed, and the modified Intrinsic Motivation Inventory, Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire, and Simulator Sickness Questionnaire were conducted. Ten patients with acute stroke completed the study. Bland-Altman plots revealed good agreements for Albert's test (mean difference, -0.3±4.5) and Star cancellation test (mean difference, 0.3±0.7). The mean±standard deviation scores of the modified Intrinsic Motivation Inventory, Patient Satisfaction Survey, and Simulator Sickness Questionnaire were 84.7±30.6, 40.5±7.9, and 34.0±34.5 respectively. The CoTras Vision system is feasible and safe in patients with stroke. Most patients had a high degree of motivation to use the system and did not experience severe adverse events. Further studies are needed to confirm its usefulness in stroke patients with visual field defects and hemineglect symptoms. Furthermore, a large, well-designed, randomized controlled trial will be needed to confirm the treatment effect of the CoTras Vision system.

Understanding Perspectives on Presbyopia and Use of Pilocarpine HCl 1.25% Twice Daily from Participants of the Phase 3 VIRGO Study.

The phase 3, randomized, vehicle-controlled, 14-day VIRGO study evaluated the efficacy and safety of twice-daily dosing of pilocarpine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution 1.25% (Pilo) in presbyopia. On VIRGO exit, a companion study was conducted to assess the patient experience with presbyopia and satisfaction with Pilo. Recruited individuals completed the Presbyopia Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PPSQ) plus a three-part exit survey, or a live interview. The PPSQ evaluated respondents' experience with Pilo. Survey parts 1 and 2 evaluated experience managing presbyopia before and during VIRGO, respectively; part 3 assessed future possibilities of using Pilo in real-world situations. The interview further informed the interviewees' experience with presbyopia and Pilo. The primary endpoint was responders (%) in each rating category of the PPSQ items 1-7; the secondary endpoints were summary of categorical (survey) and qualitative (interviews) responses. The PPSQ and survey included 62 participants who received Pilo (N = 28) or vehicle (N = 34) in VIRGO; the interview included ten participants (Pilo, N = 4; vehicle, N = 6). Per the PPSQ, 64.3% of Pilo users reported vision improvement, including 17.9% with complete improvement; ≥ 46.4% were satisfied/very satisfied with their ability to perform daily activities, see up close unaided, and read in dim light. Among vehicle users, these percentages were 35.3%, 0%, and ≤ 23.5%, respectively. In both subgroups, ≥ 67.9% were interested in using Pilo or Pilo and eyeglasses/contact lenses in the future. Per the interview, vehicle users (n = 6/6) found the eyedrop easy to use but none experienced meaningful near-vision improvements, stopped using other correction method(s) part of the day, were satisfied with the eyedrop, preferred it over their previous correction method(s), or would continue using it if prescribed. Conversely, 75% (n = 3/4) of Pilo users responded positively to each of these six criteria. Findings validate the VIRGO results and improve our understanding of the patient experience, demonstrating improved vision and satisfaction with Pilo (vs. vehicle) when performing daily activities.

Orthodontic patient satisfaction: Validation of an Arabic patient satisfaction questionnaire

Objectives: Orthodontic patient satisfaction is a primary aim of orthodontic treatment. Satisfaction is a multidimensional concept, requiring multi-item questionnaires for it to be adequately assessed. A 58-item, orthodontic patient satisfaction questionnaire (PSQ) was developed to assess orthodontic patient satisfaction. Appropriately adapted assessment tools are needed to assess orthodontics patient satisfaction in different populations. The validity and reliability of such tools should be demonstrated before their use for each target population. The PSQ was yet to be validated in Arabic. Therefore, the objective of this study was to translate, adapt, and validate an Arabic orthodontic PSQ. Material and Methods: The 58-item English PSQ was translated to Arabic through translation and back-translation. An expert panel examined the relevance of PSQ items. The questionnaire was circulated through social media to recruit responses from Arabic-speaking orthodontic patients who completed orthodontic treatment. Cronbach’s alpha, item-total correlation (I-TC), and kappa reliability coefficient were calculated. The analysis of variance test was used to compare satisfaction scores between genders and different orthodontic treatment appliances. Results: Ten items were removed based on expert ratings. The questionnaire was filled by 327 patients (55.6% females, mean age = 28.5 ± 7.2, 59.8% on metal braces, 35.3% on clear aligners, and 5.2% on tooth-colored braces). Nine questionnaire items were removed because of low I-TC (&lt;0.3). The resulting 39-item questionnaire had a Cronbach alpha of 0.79 and a kappa coefficient of 0.82. The mean total PSQ score of the sample was 167.61 ± 21.45. Items with the top ten highest I-TC correlations had a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.90. Patients on metal braces had a highest mean total PSQ score (P = 0.004). Among these patients, satisfaction with situational aspects was lower but satisfaction with dentofacial, psychosocial, and dental improvements were all higher compared to other orthodontic treatments (P &lt; 0.001). Conclusion: The 39-item Arabic PSQ is valid and reliable. A shorter collection of 10 items with high validity were identified. Patients on metal braces had better outcomes, driving higher satisfaction. Studies collecting satisfaction data using the PSQ from orthodontic clinics are needed.

Midterm outcomes of autogenous mature third molars transplantation into surgically created sockets: A retrospective cohort study.

The purpose of this study was to observe the outcome of mature third molars transplantation into surgically created sockets with the assistance of computer designed three dimensional (3-D) printed replicas and compare its outcome with the conventional fresh socket autotransplantation. This study included total of 96 mature third molars autotransplanted in 96 cases with the guidance of computer designed 3-D printed replicas. Forty-eight teeth autotransplanted into surgically created sockets were enrolled into the surgically created socket group and 48 teeth conventionally autotransplanted into fresh sockets were enrolled into the fresh socket group. In the surgically created socket group, mature third molars were autotransplanted into surgically prepared sockets at the site of previously missed or extracted molars in the alveolar bone and in the fresh socket group, autotransplantation of mature third molars were performed in fresh sockets of extracted diseased molars simultaneously. After transplantation, the visual analogue scale (VAS) score, Landry Wound Healing Index (LWHI), mobility and probing depth (PD) of the transplanted teeth were measured and the patient satisfaction questionnaire were held in both group. All patients underwent clinical and radiographic examinations during the follow-up. During the mean follow-up period of 47.63 ± 16.78 months (range 18-78 months), 92 out of 96 teeth remained insitu without clinical or radiographic complications with overall success rate of 95.83%. No statistically significant differences were found in success and survival rates between the two group. The average extra-oral time of the donor teeth were 60.76 ± 22.41 s and mean positioning trials of the donor teeth were 2.43 ± 1.19. The VAS score at Day 1 in the surgically created socket group was higher than the fresh socket group (p < .05). LWHI scores in the surgically created group were lower than the fresh socket group during the first 2 weeks (p < .05). The degree of mobility of the transplanted teeth in both group showed no statistically significant difference during the first 3 months. PD in the surgically created group were higher than the fresh socket group in the first month but there were no statistically significant difference after 1 month. Twenty-six out of 48 cases in the surgically created group needed crown restoration while only 10 cases went through crown restoration in the fresh socket group. Most patients in both group were satisfied with the treatment. Autogenous mature third molars transplantation into surgically created sockets is as effective as conventional fresh socket transplantation. This technique is worth recommending in carefully selected cases and optimistic results can be achieved.

Patient satisfaction and patient accessibility in a small fiber neuropathy diagnostic service in the Netherlands: A single-center, prospective, survey-based cohort study.

Small fiber neuropathy (SFN) is a common cause of neuropathic pain in peripheral neuropathies. Good accessibility of diagnostics and treatment is necessary for an accurate diagnosis and treatment of SFN. Evidence is lacking on the quality performance of the diagnostic SFN service in the Netherlands. Our aim was to determine the patient satisfaction and -accessibility of the diagnostic SFN service, and to identify areas for improvement. In a single-center, prospective, survey-based cohort study, 100 visiting patients were asked to fill in the SFN patient satisfaction questionnaire (SFN-PSQ), with 10 domains and 51 items. Cut-off point for improvement was defined as ≥ 25% dissatisfaction on an item. A chi-square test and linear regression analyses was used for significant differences and associations of patient satisfaction. From November 2020 to May 2021, 98 patients with SFN-related complaints filled in the online SFN-PSQ within 20 minutes. In 84% of the patients SFN was confirmed, average age was 55.1 (52.5-57.8) years and 67% was female. High satisfaction was seen in the domains 'Waiting List Period', Chest X-ray', 'Consultation with the Doctor or Nurse Practitioner (NP)', 'Separate Consultation with the Doctor or NP about Psychological Symptoms', and 'General' of the SFN service. Overall average patient satisfaction score was 8.7 (IQR 8-10) on a 1-to-10 rating scale. Main area for improvement was shortening the 8-week period for receiving the results of the diagnostic testing (p < 0.05). General health status was statistically significant associated with patient satisfaction (p < 0.05). A good reflection of the high patient satisfaction and -accessibility of the SFN-service is shown, with important points for improvement. These results could help hospitals widely to optimize the logistic and diagnostic pathway of SFN analysis, benchmarking patient satisfaction results among the hospitals, and to improve the quality of care of comparable SFN services.

Comparative study of laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy versus perineal stapler resection for external full-thickness rectal prolapse in elderly patients: enhanced outcomes and reduced recurrence rates—a retrospective cohort study

BackgroundIn elderly patients with external full-thickness rectal prolapse (EFTRP), the exact differences in postoperative recurrence and functional outcomes between laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy (LVMR) and perineal stapler resection (PSR) have not yet been investigated.MethodsWe conducted a retrospective multicenter study on 330 elderly patients divided into LVMR group (n = 250) and PSR (n = 80) from April 2012 to April 2019. Patients were evaluated before and after surgery by Wexner incontinence scale, Altomare constipation scale, and patient satisfaction questionnaire. The primary outcomes were incidence and risk factors for EFTRP recurrence. Secondary outcomes were postoperative incontinence, constipation, and patient satisfaction.ResultsLVMR was associated with fewer postoperative complications (p < 0.001), lower prolapse recurrence (p < 0.001), lower Wexner incontinence score (p = 0.03), and lower Altomare’s score (p = 0.047). Furthermore, LVMR demonstrated a significantly higher surgery–recurrence interval (p < 0.001), incontinence improvement (p = 0.019), and patient satisfaction (p < 0.001) than PSR. Three and 13 patients developed new symptoms in LVMR and PSR, respectively. The predictors for prolapse recurrence were LVMR (associated with 93% risk reduction of recurrence, OR 0.067, 95% CI 0.03–0.347, p = 0.001), symptom duration (prolonged duration was associated with an increased risk of recurrence, OR 1.131, 95% CI 1.036–1.236, p = 0.006), and length of prolapse (increased length was associated with a high recurrence risk (OR = 1.407, 95% CI = 1.197–1.655, p < 0.001).ConclusionsLVMR is safe for EFTRP treatment in elderly patients with low recurrence, and improved postoperative functional outcomes.Trial registrationClinical Trial.gov (NCT05915936), retrospectively registered on June 14, 2023.

Outpatient hysteroscopy: Suitable for all? A retrospective cohort study of safety, success and acceptability in Australia.

In Australia, gynaecologists continue to assess and investigate abnormal uterine bleeding with inpatient hysteroscopy despite evidence validating outpatient hysteroscopy services. This retrospective cohort study assessed the safety, success and acceptability of office hysteroscopy in a gynae-oncology rapid-access clinic over six years in Sydney, Australia, and included all women without an age or body mass index (BMI) cut-off using a 'see and treat' concept. A database was created and analysed retrospectively for patients who attended office hysteroscopy service between January 2016 and March 2021 (63 months, 481 eligible). An anonymous modified PAT-32 patient satisfaction questionnaire was also offered to an initial cohort after their procedure to gauge insightful feedback about acceptability. A total of 92% of patients had successful outpatient hysteroscopic access; 24% of cases required hysteroscopy under general anaesthesia (GA) despite pathology in over 50% of cases; 68% of the total were able to be managed with outpatient hysteroscopy and did not require a follow-up GA hysteroscopy. This paper is also the first of its kind to our knowledge to incorporate patients >65 years, those with a BMI >35 and those with a history of cervical stenosis. This study suggests that age and BMI do not impact the success rate of the procedure. This study demonstrates that outpatient hysteroscopy is an acceptable, safe procedure that is well tolerated by patients. Considering our rapid-access hysteroscopy service allowed 68% of the patient cohort to avoid hysteroscopy under GA, we estimate conservatively ~$63 million per year in Australia could be saved by performing office hysteroscopies.

IJCM_417A: Internet health information seeking and its effect on patient-doctor relationship and satisfaction among patients attending a tertiary care hospital in Mangalore

Background: The doctor-patient relationship is a fundamental and essential component of healthcare that plays a critical role in patient outcomes, trust, and overall quality of care. Internet-based health information has been found to have both positive and negative effects on patients. Objectives: To assess the internet health-seeking behaviour among patients, and its effect on the doctor-patient relationship Methodology: In this facility-based cross-sectional study, 110 patients were assessed regarding their internet health-seeking behaviour and its effect on the doctor-patient relationship. Patient-Doctor Depth-of-Relationship Scale and Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire – Short form (PSQ-18) was used to assess the relationship. A comparison of patient satisfaction scores and doctor-patient relationship scores among those who use the internet for seeking health-related information with those who do not was done by independent t-test and P &lt; 0.05 will be considered to be a statistically significant difference. Results: Sixty-seven-point three per cent use the internet for health-related information. Most of the patients felt satisfied with their medical care but there was still some scope of improvement in the domains of communication and the time devoted by the doctor to the patient. The overall level of patient satisfaction was above average. Our study also showed that 77.2% of the study participants had a good relationship with their doctor. Conclusion: In our study, we found that the internet using study participants were found to have an above average satisfaction with their doctors.

Is CONNECTDROP®, a Medication Event Monitoring System Add-On Paired with a Smartphone Application, acceptable to Patients with Glaucoma for taking their daily medication? The CONDORE Pilot Study.

ObjectiveThis pilot study tested the feasibility of a future efficacy trial examining the effect of CONNECTDROP®, a novel Medication Event Monitoring System (MEMS) paired with a mHealth application, on medication adherence in patients with glaucoma. DesignA single-center, single-arm, prospective interventional pilot study (NCT04552964) ParticipantsAdults with glaucoma managed with at least a fixed combination timolol/dorzolamide who are adherent to treatment. MethodsParticipants (n=31) were provided with the MEMS device and a smartphone with the Application installed. They were required to use the MEMS with their usual timolol/dorzolamide prescription for nine weeks. The study endpoint was at the end of week nine, when all study materials were returned, and participants completed a 17-item patient satisfaction questionnaire. Data collected continuously by each MEMS for the nine weeks was analyzed for its suitability to quantify adherence of the individual participant and characterize adherence trends within the study cohort. Clinical data were collected at baseline, week eight and week nine for the safety evaluation. Main outcome measuresThe primary outcome was global patient satisfaction after nine weeks. Secondary outcome measures included participant feedback on handling the MEMS and its usability, along with that of the connected Application. Objective data was used to determine participant medication adherence. The proportion of participants who successfully changed the MEMS to a new bottle at week eight was reported. ResultsThe MEMS-connected device achieved a global satisfaction score of 74.1% from study participants after nine weeks. Furthermore, 70.4 % of participants found the MEMS easy to use. However, only 59.2% reported feedback from the mHealth Application useful in reminding them to take their treatment. MEMS-derived data showed that 70.4% of participants achieved an "adherence score" of 80% or above after eight weeks and that 40.7% who completed the study had not changed the bottle correctly. No adverse events were reported. ConclusionIn this pilot study, the MEMS device had high satisfaction amongst this cohort of patients and was easy to use. The user satisfaction score for the Application was lower. The objective adherence data obtained appears reliable but must be validated for use in an efficacy trial.

Background: Health literacy is crucial for understanding health information and making informed decisions. It encompasses the ability to obtain, process, and understand basic health information. Factors like education, income, and age influence health literacy, impacting health outcomes negatively when low. E Health literacy extends to navigating electronic health resources. Patient-doctor communication suffers when doctors overestimate patient literacy. Poor health literacy leads to misunderstandings, medication errors, and poorer health outcomes. In today’s healthcare landscape, patient satisfaction is key. Understanding the link between eHealth literacy, communication, compliance, and satisfaction is vital. The study aims to evaluate patients’ e-health literacy levels, evaluate the degree of patient satisfaction with healthcare services, to ascertain the relationship between patient satisfaction and eHealth literacy. Methodology: The study involved 234 patients who visited the hospitals affiliated to Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore. eHealth literacy was assessed using eHEALS, patient satisfaction was assessed using Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire Short Form (PSQ-18). The correlation between eHealth literacy scores and patient satisfaction scores was tested using Pearson correlation coefficient where P is less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant correlation. Results: Preliminary findings suggest that majority of the participants found the Internet to be useful in making decisions about health. The results of our study show that 65% of our participants have good eHealth literacy and 27.8% have moderate literacy. The comparison of patient satisfaction based on eHealth literacy showed that there was no significant difference in patient satisfaction between participants who had good literacy or poor literacy. Conclusion: Both eHealth Literacy and Patient Satisfaction among our study participants were good, however there was no correlation found between eHealth Literacy and Patient Satisfaction.

Advanced Facial Rejuvenation: Synergistic Effects of Lower Blepharoplasty and Ultrasound Guided Mid-Face Lift Using Polydioxanone (PDO) Threads

BackgroundTraditional facial aging surgeries have risks and extended recovery times, leading to a demand for minimally invasive alternatives. PDO (polydioxanone) threads, which are absorbable sutures that stimulate collagen production and tissue contraction, offer improved aesthetic outcomes. This paper evaluates the combined use of PDO thread mid-cheek lift and lower blepharoplasty for facial rejuvenation.MethodsThis retrospective study compared outcomes in patients undergoing lower blepharoplasty combined with a mid-face lift using PDO threads versus those undergoing only lower blepharoplasty. Focused on individuals with baggy lower eyelids and pronounced nasolabial folds, outcome measures included the Modified Fitzpatrick wrinkle scale, Allergan® midface volume deficit scale, Width of inter zygomatic distance, Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale, and patient satisfaction questionnaires, assessed at baseline, 3 months, and 1 year postoperatively.ResultsThe combined procedure demonstrated superior aesthetic outcomes and higher patient satisfaction compared to lower blepharoplasty alone. Improvements were more significant in wrinkle reduction, midface volume, and inter-zygomatic distance in the combined procedure group. Although the combined procedure had a longer mean operation time, scar assessment scores were similar between both groups, with no complications reported.ConclusionThe combination of lower blepharoplasty and mid-face lift using PDO threads is a comprehensive and effective approach for facial rejuvenation. It significantly enhances wrinkle reduction, mid-face lifting, and patient satisfaction. Ultrasound-guided thread lifting, a method of assessing and performing mid-face lifting, proves to be safe and efficient. This approach holds promise as a future option in cosmetic anti-aging surgery, presenting a minimally invasive alternative with natural-looking results and reduced downtime.Level of Evidence IIThis journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each article. Development, validation and feasibility of a Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire for evaluating the quality performance of a diagnostic small fibre neuropathy service: A qualitative study.

Small fibre neuropathy (SFN) is a peripheral neuropathy, leading to neuropathic pain and autonomic dysfunction. An evidence-based standardized patient diagnostic SFN service has been implemented in the Netherlands for improving patient-centred SFN care. However, the quality of care of this diagnostic SFN service has never been assessed from a patient perspective. The aim of this study was to develop and validate an SFN-Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (SFN-PSQ) to measure the quality performance of a standardized diagnostic SFN service. A descriptive qualitative study to create the SFN-PSQ was performed using the (COREQ(Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research) checklist. For item generation and content development, domains and/or items from validated PSQs were selected. The content development and content validity were performed using a Delphi method with SFN expert caregivers with different backgrounds. By using the three-step-test method in individual cognitive interviews, the content validity by patients was finalized. In one online Delphi panel round, the content of the first concept of the SFN-PSQ was validated, which resulted in the second concept of the SFN-PSQ. From July 2019 till March 2020, nine patients consented to participate in the individual cognitive interviews. The most significant changes of the new questionnaire were adding domains and items concerning the waiting list, the diagnostic services and consultation by the hospital psychiatrist. Also, a differentiation was made for both an inpatient and outpatient diagnostic SFN service. Furthermore, the clarity and intelligibility of the domains/items were improved, resulting in an increased comprehension of the SFN-PSQ. Ultimately, the new developed SFN-PSQ consisted of 10 domains and 51 items, suitable for measuring patient satisfaction of the neurological analysis in patients with SFN. Through item generation, expert opinions and interviews with patients, the SFN-PSQ was developed and validated, and feasibility was confirmed. The structure of the questionnaire, based on the logistic and diagnostic SFN pathway, could be used as a model in other hospitals to improve the quality, continuity and access of SFN care and other chronic diseases taking into account potential cross-cultural differences. Caregivers were involved in the item generation and content development of the questionnaire. Patients were directly involved in testing the content validity and feasibility of the SFN-PSQ. Tapinarof Cream 1% Once Daily Improves Patient-Reported Outcomes in the Treatment of Mild to Severe Plaque Psoriasis in the Head and Neck Region

Introduction: Tapinarof cream 1% (VTAMA®, Dermavant Sciences, Inc.) is a non-steroidal, topical aryl hydrocarbon receptor agonist approved for the treatment of plaque psoriasis in adults with no restrictions on location, extent, or duration of use. In the phase 3 PSOARING trial program, tapinarof cream 1% once daily (QD) for the treatment of plaque psoriasis was efficacious and well tolerated. Plaque psoriasis affecting the head and neck region occurs commonly, with a high impact on patients’ health-related quality of life, through pruritus and psychological distress. Patients may consider topicals unacceptable for scalp/facial use due to poor cosmetic properties (e.g., greasiness), leading to low medication adherence. There is a need for efficacious, cosmetically elegant, non-steroidal topicals that can be used without restrictions.Objective: To assess patient-reported outcomes (PROs) with tapinarof cream for adults with mild to severe plaque psoriasis in the head and neck region, including the scalp, in a phase 4, open-label trial.Methods: Adults with head and neck region target lesion Physician Global Assessment (tPGA) score of 2 (mild), 3 (moderate), or 4 (severe) received tapinarof for 12 weeks. PROs included Peak Pruritus Numerical Rating Scale (PP-NRS) score for the head and neck region; achievement of ≥4-point reduction in PP-NRS score; Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score by visit; and responses to a Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire© (PSQ) at Week 12.Results: 31 patients received tapinarof; 58.1% (18/31) had the target lesion on the scalp. Baseline mean PP-NRS (head and neck region) and total DLQI scores were 5.8 and 9.7, respectively, demonstrating significant pruritus and disease impact. Improvement in mean PP-NRS score was demonstrated at Week 1 (–1.6), the earliest assessment, surpassing the minimal clinically important ≥4-point improvement by Week 12 (−4.2). At Week 12, 70.0% (n=14/20) achieved ≥4-point reduction in PP-NRS score. Mean DLQI minimal clinically important difference of −4.0 was demonstrated as early as Week 1 (−4.0), improving to −7.2 at Week 12. Most patients strongly agreed or agreed with PSQ questions assessing satisfaction with cosmetic elegance (93.3%), quick absorption (96.7%), application ease (86.7%), efficacy (83.3%), and confidence in tapinarof (83.3%). Compared with topicals used previously for plaque psoriasis, most strongly agreed or agreed that tapinarof was more effective (76.9%) and easier to use (76.9%).Conclusions: In patients with plaque psoriasis affecting the head and neck region, tapinarof cream 1% QD demonstrated rapid and clinically meaningful improvements in patient-reported pruritus and disease impact as early as Week 1, the first assessment, with continued improvement through Week 12. Development of a patient satisfaction questionnaire (PSQ) for diabetes management in Thailand and Lao PDR.

In a cross-sectional analytical study, a Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ) for diabetes management was developed and tested in Thailand and Lao PDR. A systematic review of qualitative studies was conducted to formulate themes of the PSQ. The 20-item PSQ was prepared in Thai and translated to Lao, with subsequent backward translation. Both versions were tested for reliability and construct validity using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The study was performed at a university hospital in Thailand and two central hospitals in Vientiane, Lao PDR. There were 300 diabetic patients from Thailand (n = 150) and Lao PDR (n = 150). The 5-factor Thai version showed 74.52% of total explained variance with good internal consistency and satisfactory goodness-of-fit indices (χ2/df = 1.91, GFI = 0.83, CFI = 0.98, SRMR = 0.063, RMSEA = 0.078). The five factors were 1) Standard of Service, 2) Diabetic Service, 3) Competency of Providers, 4) Competency of Pharmacists, and 5) Communication with Providers. For the Lao version, 20 items showed a 3-factor structure with a total explained variance of 71.09%. Goodness-of-fit indices for the Lao model were satisfactory (χ2/df = 2.45, GFI = 0.78, CFI = 0.95, SRMR = 0.075 and RMSEA = 0.095). The results showed the PSQ Thai and Lao versions were valid and reliable for assessing patient satisfaction with diabetes management, however more testing of the questionnaire is appropriate.

Customer Satisfaction with Community Pharmacy Services and Its Determinant in Indonesia: A Cross-sectional Survey

Background: Assessing customer satisfaction and its determinants are important for evaluating the quality of pharmaceutical services and identifying areas for improvement.Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the level of customer satisfaction and identify key factors associated with it.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 10 pharmacies located in Yogyakarta, Surakarta, and Magelang cities, involving a total of 1,200 customers. Data was collected using a validated patient satisfaction questionnaire from previous study and analyzed using SPSS 20 software. It was interviewed questionnaire that consists of three domains: sociodemographic characteristics, patient satisfaction, and opinions on service improvement in the community pharmacies. The inclusion criteria were customer who received services at community pharmacies between July and August 2021. Customers who were sick and unable to participate in an interview were eliminated from the study. Results: The average overall satisfaction score obtained was 3.46 (SD ±0.34). The average customer satisfaction scores were as follows: facilities (3.92 ± 0.45), waiting time (3.76 ± 0.59), medicine stocks (3.54 ± 0.61), staff availability (3.25 ± 0.53), and counseling hours (3.18 ± 0.54).Conclusion: Overall, customers are quite satisfied with the community pharmacy services. There is a relationship between age, residence, education level, type of medicine, payment method, and experience in using pharmacy with customer satisfaction level. Community pharmacists should prioritize improving service quality by focusing on enhancing customer counseling and pharmacists’ skills in communication.
