The Impact of Innovative Activities in the Innovative Pharmaceutical Industry on Corporate Market Value

Innovative drugs refer to drugs with independent intellectual property patents. With the gradual improvement of China's intellectual property status, research on innovative drugs will bring high profits to enterprises. The innovative drug industry has always been in the eyes of investors in today's social conditions. At the same time, as an emerging investment option, what indicators will affect the changes in the market value of innovative drug companies is available for everyone to discuss. In this article, through the collection of Chinese innovation Companies in the pharmaceutical industry conducted linear regression analysis and found that the impact of corporate market value is closely related to innovation activities. At the same time, it was found that patent activities related to innovation activities will have a marginal effect and have a certain negative correlation. This article aims to help companies in the innovative drug industry find ways to increase their market value and help investors see the good news brought about by innovative activities in the stock market.

Repercussions on Innovation in Education for Sustainable Development: A Theoretical Reflection

The preservation of our planet’s resources while promoting the wealth and well-being of a growing population is a crucial issue of our time. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) was launched in response to the goals of sustainable development to address the demands of sustainability. The aim of our study was to investigate the impact of education for sustainable development on innovation and the social dimension. We examined the variables of educational expenditure, intellectual property patents, and the human development index, comparing two groups of countries: the first with the highest educational ranking in the world, and the second with the highest educational ranking in Africa. Our findings indicate that the first group of countries had a positive educational impact on innovation and human development index, while the second group did not experience the same effects. In this context, we propose a new line of reflection, outlining the necessary steps for a country to adopt a responsible approach in education and to achieve positive results in terms of sustainable development, specifically on the social side.

Patent Landscape of Social Media in Education: A Review

This study aims to identify global trends in intellectual property patents and the patent landscape related to social media in education. Researchers applied a patent landscape analysis using data on 17,471 patent intellectual property documents from the Lens database. The study results show that every year, in general, the number of patents about social media in education is rising. There are entrepreneurial opportunities without paying royalties using 3,623 patent discontinues related to social media in education. Patent intellectual property related to social media in education is dominated by company ownership and inventors from the United States. Patents related to social media in education are dominated by the physics (G) and electricity (H) sections. There are 8,260 simple family social media patents in education in 7 jurisdictions of countries or regions and the highest in the United States.

Innovations in Social Informatic: A Patent Landscape Review

Patent intellectual property in social informatics with entrepreneurship support creates greater opportunities to improve human life. It has the potential to open enormous innovation opportunities in various fields, such as technology, health, services, and society. This research was conducted to review the patent landscape and the main trends of patents on social informatics in all countries. Researchers applied a patent landscape analysis using data on 487 patent documents over 16 years from the Lens.org database. The study results show yearly patented development patterns related to social informatics. There is a royalty-free opportunity by using 15 patent discontinued. Patent related to social informatics was dominated by company ownership and inventors from the United States. The patent physics (G) section overwhelmed patents related to social informatics. There were 334 simple family patents on social informatics in nine jurisdictions; the United States was the highest.

Business Analytics: A Patent Landscape Retrospective Mapping

Knowledge of patents relevant to business analytics (business analytics) is very important for entrepreneurs and companies in developing environmentally friendly business and innovation strategies. This study aims to find out the patent landscape and the main trends in patent intellectual property on the topic of business analytics around the world by using bibliometric analysis. Researchers applied an analysis of the patent landscape using data on 4,731 patent intellectual property documents from the Lens database. The results of the study show that every year in general there is an increasing trend in the number of patents related to the field of business analytics. Patents related to business analytics are dominated by the physics (G) and electricity (H) patent sections. There is an entrepreneurial opportunity without paying royalties by using 234 patent discontinues related to business analytics. Intellectual property patents related to business analytics are dominated by company ownership and inventors from the United States. There are 2,143 simple family patent business analytics in 12 jurisdictions of countries or regions and the highest is the United States.

Differentiating artificial intelligence activity clusters in Australia

We demonstrate how cluster analysis underpinned by analysis of revealed technology advantage can be used to differentiate geographic regions by activity in artificial intelligence (AI). Our analysis uses novel datasets on Australian AI businesses, intellectual property patents and labour markets to explore location, concentration and intensity of AI activities across 333 geographical regions. We find that Australia's AI business and innovation activity is clustered in geographic locations with higher investment in research and development. Through cluster analysis we identify three tiers of AI capability regions that are developing across the economy: ‘AI hotspots’ (10 regions), ‘Emerging AI regions’ (85 regions) and ‘Nascent AI regions’ (238 regions). While the AI hotspots are mainly concentrated in central business district (CBD) locations, there are examples when they also appear outside CBD in areas where there has been significant investment in innovation and technology hubs. Policy makers and investors can use these results to learn about the current landscape of AI business and innovation activities in Australia, identify potential growth opportunities in AI capabilities and to guide future policy and business decisions.

ALFIE: AIRWAY LOW FIDELITY INCLUDING ENDOBRONCHIAL ULTRASOUND BIO-SIMULATOR

TOPIC: Education, Research, and Quality Improvement TYPE: Original Investigations PURPOSE: The COVID pandemic has prioritised the role of simulation-based training. Both high and low fidelity simulators in bronchoscopy including endobronchial guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) are costly.To develop a low fidelity bio-simulator from predominately recyclable household materials or materials available in a hardware store, and, to demonstrate its utility in EBUS-TBNA skills training. METHODS: ALFIE (Airway Low Fidelity Including EBUS) bio-simulator was developed and various organic materials were tested as pseudo-peri-bronchial lymph nodes. Residents (novices) and fellows (advanced trainees) were tested using a modified validated EBUS-TBNA scoring tool before and after training on ALFIE bio-simulator. RESULTS: 19 trainees were includes (11 residents and 8 fellows). Pre-training assessment of scope handling differentiated novices from experienced bronchoscopists ((p=0.0004 (95% confidence intervals 1.09-3.11). Training of novices was associated with an improvement in scope handling (p=0.0352 (95% confidence intervals 0.07-1.75)). Significant improvements in EBUS-TBNA performance were identified in fellows after ALFIE Bio-simulator training (p=0.0472 (95% confidence intervals 0.03-1.4.65)). CONCLUSIONS: Assessment of scope handling on ALFIE, a cheap home-made bio-simulator differentiated novices form more experienced trainees and all trainees bronchoscopy skills improved with training on ALFIE bio-simulator. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: ALFIE is a cheap bio-simulator that can be positioned in trainees office allowing continuous bronchoscopy including EBUS-TBNA training. There is no Intellectual Property Patent and ALFIE assembly instructions will be sent to any physician or surgeon who seeks a cheap low fideliity bronchoscopy including EBUS-TBNA bio-simulator. Enhancements of ’Competition Culture’ in Pharmaceutical Sector: Anti-Competitive Infringements and Consumer Welfare

Indeed, it is the economic regulation that shaped present ‘competitive market structure’ in Malaysia. This market structure hence generated the ‘competition culture’ in many industries. The structural changes contributed to transition of a regulated market-based to open market- based economy. The transition saw competitive market structure illustrated by the involvement of private and public enterprise as market players in the main and sub sectors. The first sectors were telecommunication and energy. These sectors have shown stable and robust competitiveness in the market whereby private entities and independents telecommunication companies compete in the Malaysian tele-communication market. The competitive culture saw a liberalised and deregulated market based that brought about efficiencies in services, prices and innovations. Secure and continuous pharmaceutical supplies are structural responsibilities shared by all stakeholders in the market. Pharmaceutical industry generated and garnered extensive intellectual rights in terms of drugs, services and medical supplies. Manufacturers in pharmaceutical sectors invests massive funding to develop new creations, this is evident by the COVID-19 vaccines, patent and trademarks rights are thus awarded to the creators of the innovation.The ‘competition culture’ illustrated through stable and extensive electricity, internet coverage, lower prices, choices of products and services for customers. Amidst the post pandemic crisis, pharmaceutical supply chain has become one of the important sector that require attention in sustainability and accessibility. Documentary examination shows, to date, present pharmaceutical market structure divided between levels 1, 2 and 3 represent monopolistic and oligopolistic structural framework. Summative assessments revealed there are ant –competitive behaviour’s concerns in the sector. Instituting ‘competition culture’ and enhance competition regulatory measures are pivotal in advocating a level playing fields in all three levels. Comparative method examination from other jurisdiction experiences and lessons are the parameters of this article. This studies hope to examine and discuss existing constraints in structural framework and competitive culture in pharmaceutical drugs market.The structure of this Article is the following. In Part 1, explain the relationship of patents rights and competition policy and law, industry market structure, market players and relationship between intellectual property patent laws and competition laws. Part 2, explain anti-competitive behaviours from patent holders and challenges and implications on the violations of competition law. Part 3 recapitulates the constraints, issues and structural suggestions for workable ‘competitive culture’ in the pharmaceutical market. We hope this studies will provide further research gap for future research.

A crisis in US drug pricing: Consequences for patients with neuromuscular diseases, physicians and society, part 1.

Drug prices in the United States have reached astounding heights, negatively impacting patients and society. The vast majority of prescription drug spending is on brand name drugs, which are protected from typical market pressures by FDA exclusivity and intellectual property patents. Drugs to treat "orphan" diseases, of particular relevance to neuromuscular clinicians, are some of the most expensive in all of medicine. The Orphan Drug Act's original intent was to incentivize the creation of drugs that would otherwise provide little economic payoff. While it has facilitated incredible, life-changing drugs for our patients, it has also become a source of abuse. Many expensive drugs approved under the Orphan Drug Act were previously available for compassionate use or for another indication at much lower prices. As patients increasingly face high drug prices, it is important for clinicians to understand a drug's risk for inducing financial toxicity, as the financial and emotional consequences of an overpriced low-value drug may outweigh its intended benefit.

Twenty one years of HIV/AIDS medicines in the newspaper: patents, protest, and philanthropy

In 1996, highly active antiretrovirals (ARVs) were released to the public, radically altering the health prospects of people living with HIV and AIDS. In the two decades since, ARVs have become the subject of intense political debate and social justice mobilization. In particular, ARV intellectual property patent protections have become a high-profile trade and diplomacy issue, while major philanthropic organizations have entered the fray to support large-scale treatment programs. This article maps 21 years of HIV/AIDS medicines coverage in mainstream newspapers to illustrate these developments and contestations. It demonstrates two main processes: first, where civil society mobilization successfully promoted ARVs onto the media and policy agenda, and second, where issue fragmentation and a changing political and media context saw ARVs dramatically exit the news coverage, despite the continuing catastrophic scale of the global HIV/AIDS medicines crisis.

Exclusive or open? An economic analysis of university intellectual property patenting and licensing strategies

This paper examines the determinants and compares the welfare implications of university intellectual property patenting and licensing strategies. A licensing strategy may be based on varying degrees of exclusivity granted to firms, from open, non-exclusive to exclusive licensing. We thus analyze how the nature of technology invented by the university might affect the choice of patenting (or publishing) and the licensing strategy as well as the performance of the transfer. We consider a model with one university and four firms in two different sectors. We show that if the invention is embryonic and specific, exclusive licensing is the only strategy allowing transferring it to industry. Further, if the invention is generic and embryonic exclusive licensing per field of use is the best way of transferring the invention. Finally, when the invention is mature, publishing is the optimal strategy. An important result is that at the equilibrium of the game, universities may not always automatically choose the strategy which maximizes social surplus.JEL Codes: O32, O33, O34

In today's environment, timing is a critical part of business strategy. Nowhere is this truer than as regards managing intellectual property in an increasingly global marketplace. The creation and protection of intellectual property assets often depends on consistently taking the right legal action at the right time. The consequences of failing to do so can be disastrous but may only be felt at a later time or in other markets. The difficulty for business people lies in the fact that the time-sensitive aspects of intellectual property cannot be managed effectively by relying on intuition or resolving to see a lawyer when the need arises. This article provides a basic primer on the critical role of timing in identifying, creating, and protecting intellectual property assets. It discusses the most common types of intellectual property—patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets—and compares the role of timing in the creation and protection of each asset type. Most importantly, it summarizes the key issues of timing in the creation and protection of intellectual property.

Ten Years After Managed Professionals: Who Owns Intellectual Property Now?

Between 1998 and 2008, the number of collective bargaining agreements at colleges and universities that covered ownership of intellectual property—patents and copyrights—increased dramatically. In Managed Professionals: Unionized Faculty and Restructuring Academic Labor, Gary Rhoades (1998) wrote that only about 33% of the collective bargaining agreements in the Higher Education Contract Analysis System (HECAS) maintained by the National Education Association had provisions that covered ownership of intellectual property (71 out of 212 contracts). In the 2008 HECAS, 55% (290 out of 525) of contracts covering faculty at two-year and four-year institutions had provisions covering intellectual-property ownership.

Understanding the technology market for patents: New insights from a licensing survey of Japanese firms

This paper provides an empirical analysis of the technology market for patents in Japan, by using a novel firm-level dataset that combines a Japanese Patent Office survey titled Survey of Intellectual Property Activities, the Institute of Intellectual Property patent database, and the Licensing Activity Survey conducted by the University of Tokyo. In this paper, we use a two-step model to estimate a firm's licensing propensities; the first step estimates the determinants of potential licensors (willingness to license) and the second step identifies the factors of the actual licensing out of technology (licensing propensity). We found that a significant number of patents held by firms are not licensed out, although the owners are willing to do so. Our econometric analysis reveals that a major factor behind this technology market imperfection is the potential licensors’ difficulty in finding licensing partners.

Employment growth from the Small Business Innovation Research program

This paper investigates employment growth in small firms funded by the U.S. Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. Using data collected by the National Research Council for each of five federal agencies, our analysis shows that on average over two-fifths of all projects retained zero employees after completion and over one-third retained only one or two employees. Thus, on average, the direct impact of SBIR funded projects on employment is small, especially when compared to the mean number of employees in the firms. However, there are substantial cross-project differences in the number of retained employees that are explained by differences in the firms and their SBIR projects. We find across funding agencies that projects with intellectual property—patents, copyrights, trademarks, or publications—retained more employees after completion of the project. Also, we find that the public funding of research by the SBIR program is more likely to stimulate employment when the government created a market for the products, processes, or services developed by the research projects.

Using AHP in patent valuation

As the knowledge economy rapidly increases, intangible assets are more valuable to businesses and valuing them attracts much research from the field of technology management. Intangible assets include intellectual capital and intellectual property. Intellectual property is often protected by patents. Since the enterprise is willing to pay the patent costs to guarantee a sustainable competence, it would be useful to be able to determine when it is worthwhile. We propose an objective scoring system for intellectual property patents from the licensor side in this study using the AHP. We used it to value the patents for new products being developed by an actual enterprise.
