Knowledge and awareness among dental and life science students towards research: A questionnaire based cross-sectional study

The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge and attitudes towards research and explore career interests among dental and life science students following their participation in an internship training program in bioresearch. The materials and methods involved a questionnaire-based survey conducted among CRI (Compulsory rotatory internship) dental students, postgraduate MDS students, and life science students who took part in the internship program organized by the Central Research Laboratory. Prior to the internship, participants were administered the questionnaire. The results revealed an overall research knowledge rate of 66% among participants, with CRI dental students demonstrating a higher rate at 72%. Additionally, 72% of the participants expressed positive views regarding research as a viable career option in their respective fields. This study primarily aimed to analyse research knowledge and attitudes among dental and life science students. Findings indicated a strong interest in research among students, highlighting the importance of targeted training in biomedicine and statistics. In conclusion, the study suggests that tailored training programs focusing on research methodology and statistics would be beneficial for medical and dental students entering the field.

Home-based tele-exercise training and physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic in chronic kidney disease patients.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and lockdown reduced physical activity levels in hemodialysis (HD) patients and kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). This study aimed to describe physical activity levels during lockdown and assess the effects of an online home-based exercise training program on physical activity levels in HD patients and KTRs. Forty-five HD patients and thirty-five KTRs were divided into four groups: exercise groups 1 (ΕΧ-HD) and 2 (EX-KTR) followed a 4-month tele-exercise training program, while control groups received usual care. All participants at baseline and at the end of the study completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), while their daily physical activity levels were recorded via a step counting application. At the end of the study, the repeated measures analysis revealed a significant effect of time, group, and time-by-group interaction in the average steps per day, walking, and moderate activity for the exercise-HD group (p < 0.05). Similarly, the analysis revealed a notable effect of time, group, and time-by-group interaction in the exercise-KTR group in average daily steps, vigorous and walking activity (p < 0.05). Multiple regression analysis showed that the level of physical activity at the end of the study was related to the urban place of residence and theparticipation in the 4-month exercise program of both HD patients and KTRs. Participation in a tele-exercise training program led to favorable effects on physical activity levels both in HD patients and KTRsduring lockdown.

Developing university students’ personal skills: the role of business–university partnership programmes

Purpose This study aims to explore the influence of Mutqen programmes on university students’ personality and skills development. It evaluates the cognitive attitudes of university student participants in Mutqen training programmes. The research was analysed thematically, and this paper reports on the roles businesses and universities play in enhancing students’ personality and skills and the importance of knowledge acquisition to develop students’ career prospects. Design/methodology/approach Using a quantitative research approach, the study used a descriptive survey design. A total of 1,039 respondents based in Saudi Arabia participated voluntarily in the survey. Findings The results revealed a positive impact from Mutqen programmes on students’ personality and skills development. Moreover, the outcomes demonstrated that the Mutqen programmes promote knowledge acquisition, which enhances future career readiness by enabling students to positively develop their awareness of potential future career requirements. Originality/value The critical contribution of this paper is that it empirically evaluates the perceived impact of social corporate training programmes on students’ personality and skills development from the perspective of the students themselves.

A STUDY ON INVESTIGATING THE IMPACT OF TRAINING PROGRAMS ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE AND ORGANIZATIONAL SUCCESS

In today's dynamic business environment, organizations are continually seeking strategies to enhance employee performance and achieve organizational success. Training programs have emerged as a pivotal tool in this pursuit, aiming to equip employees with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their roles. This study investigates the multifaceted impact of training programs on both employee performance and organizational success. the study reveals significant correlations between participation in training programs and various indicators of employee performance, including job satisfaction, productivity, and adaptability to change. Moreover, the research identifies a positive relationship between effective training initiatives and organizational success metrics such as profitability, innovation, and employee retention. Ultimately, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of the critical linkages between training, employee performance, and organizational success in contemporary workplaces. A Study on Employees Satisfaction at Sai Sudarshan Security and Vigilance

This study examines employee satisfaction at Sai Sudarshan Security and Vigilance Pvt Ltd, focusing on key factors contributing to a positive work environment. Utilizing a purposive sampling technique, we collected primary responses from employees with at least one year of service and participation in training programs. A sample size of 100 was selected from over 130 employees. Data was meticulously organized and analyzed using graphical methods, with responses categorized under various subheadings. The findings reveal high levels of job satisfaction driven by effective communication, regular recognition, and ample career growth opportunities. While significant contentment was reported, areas needing improvement include proactive career development discussions and fostering a balanced, inclusive company culture. These insights underscore the importance of both tangible benefits and intangible factors, such as relationships with colleagues and supervisors. Rasch analysis of the self efficacy (SE-12) questionnaire measuring clinical communication skills

ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to examine the construct validity and reliability of the Self Efficacy (SE-12) questionnaire using Rasch analysis. MethodsThe SE-12 was administered to Danish health care professionals prior to their participation in a communication skills training program. Analysis of fit to the Rasch model, ordering of response categories, dimensionality-testing, test for differential item functioning, test for local dependency, and calculation of reliability were used to evaluate the psychometric characteristics of the SE-12. ResultsIn this study, 1057 respondents were analyzed. Overall, the SE-12 demonstrated an acceptable fit to the Rasch model. Response categories were appropriately ordered for all twelve items. However, items 6 (structure) and item 8 (empathy) demonstrated differential item functioning, with men being more likely to affirm the first and women the last item. Local dependency was observed between five item groups but adjusting for these improved fit indices significantly. The SE-12 exhibited high reliability with PSI ranging from 0.92 to 0.94. A transformation table converting ordinal scores to interval scores is provided. ConclusionThe SE-12 demonstrates good construct validity and excellent reliability. Minor issues regarding local dependency and differential functioning require attention.Innovation: A 5-item version could be explored without compromising validity and reliability.

Development of two questionnaires for the assessment of knowledge and self-management in patients with chronic-obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

As with other chronic diseases, the course of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) can be expected to be positively influenced if patients are well informed about their disease and undertake appropriate self-management. Assessments of the level of knowledge and management that are comparable should benefit from structured, systematically developed questionnaires. These, however, have not been published in Germany. A total of 310 patients with COPD were recruited from three pneumological practices and one hospital to develop the questionnaires. Based on statistical criteria and content assessments by medical specialists, two questionnaires on knowledge (17 questions) and self-management (25 questions) were developed by selecting and modifying questions from published studies and training programs. In addition, two short versions with 5 and 3 questions were created to enable a quick assessment of the patients' knowledge and self-management. All questionnaires also included a visual analogue scale for self-assessment of knowledge and self-management. The statistical procedures for systematically guided selection comprised correlation and regression analyses. The questionnaires revealed considerable knowledge deficits in many patients and remarkably unsystematic, incoherent knowledge. The extent of this knowledge was negatively correlated with higher age and positively correlated with participation in training programs; this also applied to self-management. Correlations between the answers to the knowledge questions were higher in patients who had participated in training programs. The visual analogue scales for self-assessment of knowledge and management always correlated with the total number of correct answers. The questionnaires on knowledge and self-management in patients with COPD could be used in outpatient settings, including by non-medical staff, in order to quickly identify and correct deficits or as a reason to recommend training programs. The short versions and the analogue scales for self-assessment can give at least first hints. Potentially, training programs should focus more on promoting the coherence of knowledge through better understanding, as this presumably favors long-term knowledge. Older patients and those with a low level of education appear to be particularly in need of specially adapted training programs.

Effectiveness of a Sustainable Training Program Combining Supervised Outdoor Exercise with Telecoaching on Physical Performance in Elderly People

The decrease in functional abilities can negatively influence quality of life and autonomy in elderly people, and physical exercise plays a crucial role regardless of the type. Among the latter, also due to the COVID-19 pandemic, outdoor exercise and telecoaching are settings that have been widely implemented. Hence, the aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of a sustainable training program combining supervised outdoor exercise with telecoaching on physical performance in elderly people. A total of 60 participants were recruited and divided into two groups: a trained group (TG) and an untrained group (UG), based on their participation in an 8-week sustainable training program consisted of five sessions/week, which included two sessions/week of supervised outdoor exercise and three sessions/week of telecoaching. Participants were evaluated before and at the end of the training program using the handgrip test, Timed Up and Go (TUG) test, short physical performance battery (SPPB), and Tinetti scale. In the TG, we found a significant improvement in the following tests: right handgrip (p &lt; 0.001); left handgrip (p &lt; 0.001); TUG (p &lt; 0.001); SPPB (p = 0.01); and Tinetti scale (p = 0.006). A detailed analysis of the SPPB and Tinetti scale showed the lack of significant changes in walking ability: gait speed (p &gt; 0.05) and walking parameters in the Tinetti scale (p &gt; 0.05). Based on our results, we suggest that a sustainable training program combining supervised outdoor exercise with telecoaching could be effective in the elderly population for improving balance capacity and strength.

Climatic events and disease occurrence in intensive Litopenaeus vannamei shrimp farming in the Mekong area of Vietnam

As recurrent disease outbreaks impart economic adversity across the global shrimp farming sector in general, and in Asia in particular, clarifying determinants of outbreak susceptibility carries significance for sustainability in economic growth and social and environmental prospects. This study employs logistic regression to assess the probability of disease occurrence in intensive white leg shrimp (WLS) (Litopenaeus vannamei) aquaculture under the impact of explanatory factors grouped in (1) farmers' perceptions of climatic events, (2) adaptation measures (3) farmer biodata, (4) farm site characteristics, (5) biosecurity measures, and (6) culture method. The analysis was performed using a survey of 267 Vietnamese small-scale intensive shrimp farms in the Mekong region. Significant contributors to lowering the chance of shrimp disease occurrence include (1) regularly carrying out feed conversion ratio calculations, (2) increasing participation in training programs and extension services, (3) implementing adaptive measures related to changes in feeding schedules, and (4) increasing stocking density. The main risk factors increasing the chance of shrimp disease are the duration of the crop and more years in operation. This quantitative evidence contributes to identifying important focal points for policymakers and intensive shrimp farmers in monitoring and managing the shrimp industry under the potential impacts of climate change.

Contribution of the veterinary profession to the Australian animal health surveillance system and opportunities for future contributions

Animal health surveillance is crucial for early detection of emergency animal diseases and effective responses. However, surveillance systems are complex and rely on the contributions of many animal health stakeholders. Veterinarians are key stakeholders in this system, given their role and skills in investigating, diagnosing, and reporting notifiable diseases. This study investigated the contribution of the veterinary workforce to the Australian animal health surveillance system and opportunities for future involvement. To achieve the aims of the study, an online cross-sectional survey among the veterinary profession was conducted. Descriptive statistics and regression analyses were used to provide an overview and investigate drivers of attitudes and practices of veterinarians in relation to animal health surveillance. A total of 311 usable responses were obtained, with 191 being from veterinarians who worked in private practice in the previous 12 months. Among private practitioners, 58.6% worked with companion animals, 34.0% were mixed practice veterinarians and 7.3% were equine veterinarians. Over half (56.6%) of all participants considered themselves active participants in the local animal disease management system. The level of confidence in understanding the reporting system and knowing and identifying signs of endemic and exotic diseases was moderate among those working in private practice, with companion animal veterinarians reporting the lowest levels of confidence (p < 0.05). Approximately 40% of veterinarians had taken samples for diagnosis for notifiable diseases in the last year, with just over 20% reporting a notifiable disease. Awareness of and participation in training and surveillance programs for animal diseases by veterinarians was low, with those working in private practice having lower levels of both awareness and participation for most programs. In relation to potential future contribution to the surveillance system, over half of participants reported being interested and available to undertake surveillance work on behalf of the government, with those in mixed practice reporting higher levels of interest (69.6%) compared to those in companion (49.5%) and equine practice (30.8%). However, key challenges identified were related to perceived conflict of interest, and tensions between client needs and government agenda, followed by profitability and suitability of the business. This study provides evidence of a significant existing contribution by the veterinary profession to the surveillance system, and the capacity and willingness to increase this contribution. However, there are gaps in awareness, confidence and participation, as well as financial and veterinary-client relationship challenges that should be considered in any future planning to strengthen the Australian surveillance system.

Developing Global Leader: The Key to Enhance Japanese University Studentsʼ Participation in Overseas Programmes

Prompted by a shortage of global talent, Japan is making efforts to nurture the necessary human resources. The role of any university education cannot be ignored; however, various hurdles associated with several training programmes must be overcome, in particular the implementation of overseas programmes. If any overseas programmes are able to execute successfully, they can provide significant contributions to developing global minds of university students. This study empirically examines the degree of Japanese university students’ participation in overseas training programmes with teaching staff as companions. A total of 91 students from a national university in Japan were asked to complete a questionnaire and an independent sample t-test was used for data analysis. This study’s findings suggest that female students and students who had experience abroad prefer to have a teaching staff companion during their participation in overseas programmes. Japanese universities should consider increasing their support by using teaching staff to enhance the development of global talent through overseas education programmes.

The Effects of Resilience Training on Mental Health Among Students

Background: Research indicates that certain demographic groups, including girls, often experience lower-than-average levels of mental well-being. Therefore, it appears that one approach to enhancing mental health is by teaching resilience skills. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effects of resilience training on the mental health dimensions of sixth-grade female students in Qaynat city during the academic year 2021 - 2022. Methods: The study employed an experimental design with a control group, conducting pre- and post-tests. The statistical population comprised female sixth-grade students from an elementary school in Qaynat City. Thirty female students exhibiting high scores on measures of depression, anxiety, and stress were selected and randomly divided into two experimental groups, with 15 participants in each group. The experimental group underwent resilience training consisting of 8 sessions. The desired variables were measured using Lovibond and Lovibond's Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS). The data were analyzed using SPSS 25 software through independent samples t-tests and paired t-tests. Results: The findings revealed that the resilience training intervention significantly reduced symptoms of depression (F = 11.542), anxiety (F = 13.67), and stress (F = 6.01) in the experimental group (P = 0.001). Conclusions: The results suggest that participation in a resilience training program can improve students' mental health. Therefore, implementing such intervention programs in the form of workshops and establishing counseling and support groups may be beneficial for enhancing students' mental well-being.

Didge you sleep: a feasibility study of didgeridoo training for obstructive sleep apnea

Intolerance of positive airway pressure therapy for obstructive sleep apnea is common. Upper airway muscle therapies show promise as alternative treatments. The didgeridoo, which is a musical instrument, can be used for upper airway muscle training. Our goal was to develop a group-based didgeridoo training program for obstructive sleep apnea. We conducted a proof-of-concept single-arm study consisting of a structured didgeridoo training regimen. We surveyed patients at a large medical facility about their interest in the program. We developed and tested a manual of procedures for conducting a 4-session group program conducted over 8 weeks that instructed participants on use of the Medical Didgeridoo. We also refined procedures for baseline and 4-month follow-up assessments, which included measures of daytime sleepiness and apnea–hypopnea index. Interviews were conducted at follow-up to obtain feedback about the program. Of the 56 survey respondents, 67% reported difficulty with positive airway pressure, expressed interest in participating in a structured upper airway muscle training program, and indicated that they would be willing to practice exercises for 30 min per day. After in-depth screening of 15 patients, we recruited five patients to participate in the structured training program; all five completed the program and were able to learn to play basic sounds on the provided instrument, and four stated they would continue to play the Medical Didgeridoo after completion of the program. Given the significant level of interest and excellent participation in the didgeridoo training program, it may be feasible to conduct a large-scale study to assess treatment response.

The article analyzes the relevance of arts education and teachers’ professional development while implementing inclusive education. The background for this article is an evaluation of an international in-service teachers’ training program focusing on inclusive arts education. This study aims to investigate what inclusive education means to arts teachers and reveal their learning experiences in the international training program “Inclusive Arts Education”. The qualitative research was conducted using the focus group method with international training program participants from three different European countries (Finland, Austria and Lithuania). The study involved 25 participants: 7 from Finland, 7 from Austria and 11 from Lithuania. The research has shown that in each country arts teachers work in different national and educational contexts but face quite similar challenges of inclusive education. The success of inclusive art education mainly depends on the teacher’s professional abilities and attitude towards inclusion, as well as the creation of a favourable educational atmosphere and positive relationships with students in the educational process. The experience of the research participants highlighted their attitudes to the content and organization of international training, which will help to develop continuing education programs for arts teachers’ preparation for inclusive arts education.

Operation STICK: A vascular access specialty program for the generalist emergency medicine clinician.

Comprehensive education and training programs are urgently needed to improve vascular access outcomes in the emergency department (ED). This study aimed to demonstrate the success of a formalized vascular access program in developing competent ED clinicians in traditional and ultrasound-guided insertion methods. This was a retrospective observational study exploring the success of trainees in obtaining competency in peripheral vascular access at an academic suburban ED with 120,000 annual visits. Eligible participants included healthcare workers that enrolled in the Operation STICK vascular access program and perform vascular access procedures as an aspect of their clinical practice. Competency in vascular access included both traditional and ultrasound-guided (US) peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) insertions. Competency was defined as demonstration of successful insertion of one traditional and one US PIVC in compliance with checklist. The primary objective was competency. Secondary objectives included trainee time to competency, trainee number of line encounters, and changes in program competency achievements over time. From October 15, 2021, to April 15, 2023, 141 clinicians participated in peripheral vascular access training via the Operation STICK model, which included 72 (51.1%) nurses, 52 (36.9%) ED technicians, and 17 (12.0%) healthcare personnel with other medical training. Clinicians overall reported an average of 5.6 years of experience inserting peripheral intravenous catheters (PIVCs) and 23 (16.3%) had experience with using ultrasound. About 122 (86.5%) clinicians successfully completed the program and demonstrated competency in traditional and ultrasound-guided techniques. Time to competency varied over time, with a median of 124 days in the early phase, 32.5 days middle phase, and 10.6 h over 9.5 days in the later phase of the program (p < 0.001). Achieving competency in PIVC insertion necessitates a focused effort on refining and systematizing education and training approaches. Recognizing the inherent challenges present in ED settings, it is feasible to effectively and efficiently train emergency clinicians to be expert in both basic and advanced PIVC placement techniques through participation in a well-organized vascular access training program.

European Mobility Programs and Skills Development

This specific study follows the quantitative methodology approach and seeks to investigate primary education teachers’ perceptions of the skills developed through participation in European mobility programs. It examines whether there is a correlation between the perceptions of the following professional characteristics: knowledge of a foreign language, knowledge of information and communications technology (ICT), and participation in training programs for mobility. The research was conducted in the prefecture of Achaia in May 2023. The convenient sampling technique was applied, and 360 teachers finally completed the electronic questionnaire. Regarding data analysis, descriptive and inductive statistics were applied with the application of IBM SPSS v28 software. The internal consistency reliability for skills development from the European mobility programs is very satisfactory (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.904 &gt; 0.70). Based on the findings of this study, it is shown that teachers recognize, to a very high extent, that they develop precious skills while participating in European mobility programs. Finally, their perceptions are reinforced by specific vocational traits.

DEVELOPMENT OF MOBILE EDUCATIONAL MATERIAL FOR NURSES: A PROCESS IMPROVEMENT STUDY

In the nursing profession, post-graduate in-service trainings are scheduled to increase efficiency and improve the quality of service. There are barriers to participation in training programs due to some reasons such as the intense work pace, incompatible shifts, a lack of personnel, the training program is not being at the knowledge and skill level of the personnel to be trained, the poor physical environment of the training environment. The purpose of this methodological study is to develop mobile training material to provide nurses working in university hospital with professional literature and also, to evaluate its visual design, reliability and the quality of information in the developed training material. The information quality, reliability, readability and visual design of the mobile training material developed for use on Android and IOS smartphones was assessed by 10 experts, twice, by means of the Discern Measurement Questionnaire and Visual Design Control Scale. After the first expert evaluation, the content was updated and a second evaluation completed. Content validity index (CVI) analyzes were performed. The Discern Measurement Questionnaire's total score for the training material configured for smartphones was calculated at 70.80 ±2.57 out of 75. CVI analysis results of the Discern Measurement Questionnaire and Visual Design Control Scale scales of the training material were found to be 0.75 and 0.78, respectively. According to Gagne's events of instructions, the information quality and the reliability of the training material configured for smartphones is high and this training material is validated.

This study collected data from 30 students in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades of K University in J, K-do to determine the effect of online employment adaptation practice training programs on grit, career decision-making self-efficacy, and practical integration ability in the COVID-19 pandemic. An online employment adaptation practice training program was developed for nursing students based on the ADDIE model and the validity of the program was verified through expert validation, and it applied online education 10 times in real time for 4 hours a day and 5 days, using guidance from hospital education nurses and online video participation by nursing students. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were used for the collected data. Study Results Grit (F=17.79, p&lt;.001), practical integration capability (F=19.47, p&lt;.001) showed a significant difference over time, with the average value of the subjects before, immediately after, and four weeks after participation in the online employment adaptation practical training program. Based on the results of this study, it is suggested the feasibility of nursing students' practice in limited remote education environment and proposed the development and application of various online employment adaptation practice training programs linked with industry collaborations for nursing students.

TRIBAL FARMING DYNAMICS: INVESTIGATING THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIO ECONOMIC AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ATTRIBUTES ON AGRICULTURAL INFORMATION MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

Agriculture is the cornerstone of many rural communities worldwide. Tribal farmers play a vital role in preserving agricultural customs and ensuring regional food security. The efficient management of agricultural information is critical in modern farming operations, as it allows farmers to enhance production, make informed decisions, and adapt to changing environmental conditions. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in agriculture include networks, mobile devices, services, and applications that aid in the processing, management, and exchange of data, information, or knowledge within the farming ecosystem. ICTs assist farmers through educational procedures in improving farming methods and techniques, increasing production efficiency and income, bettering their levels of living, and lifting the social and educational standards of rural life. The study was conducted in the Keonjhar district of Odisha. An ex-post facto research design was followed for carrying out the study. The research study was followed by both purposive and non-probability random sampling methods for the selection of district, block, gram panchayat, village, and respondents. 120 respondents were selected through disproportionate random sampling. The study revealed the relationship between some socio—economic and psychological variables and Agricultural information management behavior. From this correlation, it was observed that age is negatively correlated and other variables such as gender, education, income, family size, outward orientation, training program, and social participation are positively correlated with information-seeking sources. These variables are directly proportional to the information-seeking sources.

Networking and training for IMPROVEMENT of farm income: A case of lifelong learning (L3F) approach in West Africa

The lifelong learning for farmers program of the Commonwealth of Learning relies heavily on innovation platforms to address the critical information gap left by agricultural research and development, which often fails to reach the intended rural farmers. The fundamental tenet is that these activities require a space for stakeholders to collaborate, overcome obstacles, and seize opportunities for agricultural development. Therefore, this study investigated the impact of networking and training on farm income in West Africa. A multistage sampling technique was employed to select 1800 households from the study site which cuts through the Kano-Katsina axis in Nigeria and the Maradi axis in the Niger Republic. The probit and mediation models were used to analyse the data. The probit model suggested that the decision to join innovation platforms is significantly influenced by factors such as married status, education, household size, farming experience, and the proportion of males and females in the working class, and young dependents. Furthermore, the probit model shows that the decision of farmers to take part in the training offered by innovation platforms is significantly influenced by factors such as gender, age, years of education, household size, and the proportion of males and females in the working class as well as elderly dependents. The mediation analysis results showed a positive and significant correlation between farm income and membership in innovation platforms (IPs). The direct effect suggested that farm incomes rise by 77.5 % upon joining IPs. Upon breaking down the overall impact into direct and indirect effects, it became evident that participation in IP training mediated nearly 86 % of the total impact of IP membership on farm income. The study concludes that participation in innovation platforms has a positive effect on farm income when they take part in educational programs hosted on the platforms, even after adjusting for observed and unobserved covariates. Consequently, the study suggests that any policy aimed at the welfare of farmers should take participation in lifelong training programs of IPs into account.
