Methods of Formation of Socio-Cultural Competence in Teaching English

In today's globalized world, the ability to effectively communicate and interact with people from different cultural backgrounds is an important skill. The ways to develop this socio-cultural competence are participation in cultural events and meetings with native speakers, the use of authentic materials, project activities and the exchange of international programs. Discusses the importance of these activities for improving the socio-cultural competence of students.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate and examine the operation of shared childcare spaces, a form of infant and toddler care in Seoul, with the goal of providing foundational data for proposing childcare policies.
 Methods The research methodology involved the collection and analysis of data through open-ended surveys, in-depth interviews, observations of childcare spaces, and examination of relevant documents.
 Results First, as for the environment of the center, the operators changed playing stuff quarterly and proper for the development of the children. Parents perceived the environment as clean and warm, respecting individual attention to children, and considering it a comfortable environment for playing together with their parents. Second, the challenges of the shared childcare center, operators claim that it is difficult to satisfy users’requests. They also claim that parents are not cooperative with keeping the center’s rules and regulations. The operators experienced limitations due to the diverse tasks they performed. Parents emphasize that the easy access to the center and the availability of the center without making reservations are most necessary. The reservation to use the center is very competitive. Third, as the demands and support methods of shared childcare center, the operators advocated for the provision of dedicated personnel. Parents requested program diversification, extension of weekend hours, and expansion of participation in cultural events.
 Conclusions Considering all these results, the author’s suggestion for the policy of sharing childcare center is that we need to expand rhdehddbrdkqksharing child care and we need to obtain more manpower with specialty and weekend operation and relaxation of reservation system.

Correlates of mental disorder and harmful substance use in an indigenous Australian urban sample: an analysis of data from the Queensland Urban Indigenous Mental Health Survey.

Limited data exists on the relationship between sociodemographic and cultural variables and the prevalence of specific mental and substance use disorders (MSDs) among Indigenous Australians, using diagnostic prevalence data. This paper utilises data from the Queensland Urban Indigenous Mental Health Survey (QUIMHS), a population-level diagnostic mental health survey, to identify socioeconomic and cultural correlates of psychological distress and specific MSDs in an urban Indigenous Australian sample. Using a mixture of household sampling (door-knocking) and snowball sampling (promotion of the survey in the community), 406 participants aged 18 to 89 were recruited across key locations in Southeast Queensland. The study investigated various demographic, socioeconomic, and cultural factors as predictors of psychological distress (measured by the Kessler-5) and MSD diagnoses (utilising the Composite International Diagnostic Interview, CIDI 3.0) using a series of univariate logistic regressions. Individuals in unstable housing (homeless, sleeping rough) and those reporting financial distress were more likely to experience an MSD in the past 12 months and throughout their lifetime. Individuals reporting lower levels of connection and belonging, limited participation in cultural events, and lower empowerment were more likely to have a lifetime mental disorder. This data emphasises the importance of addressing systemic and social determinants of health when designing and delivering community mental health services and underscores the need for holistic approaches when working with Indigenous communities.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the scope of local cultural policies through an empirical study on the cultural enjoyment gap. For this purpose, the cultural enjoyment status of culturally marginalized groups derived from the review of previous studies was compared and analyzed within the same basic local government. In addition, the experience level of each cultural genre was investigated and analyzed by dividing cultural enjoyment into viewing, participation, and education stages. The results of the analysis showed that, first, when it comes to leisure time for cultural enjoyment, those in their 60s and older, those with lower income levels, and those living in towns and villages have more leisure time on an average weekday. Second, 25% of all respondents have experienced veiwing cultural events. Movies and museums were found to be universal cultural enjoyment genres, and in most genres, the underrepresented groups were found to be real. Third, direct participation in cultural events was lower among those under the age of 50, those with lower median income, and those living in the urban. Fourth, the experience of cultural education was also low, with significant mean differences by class.

Social Inclusion of Adults with a Light Intellectual Disability

Problem: How do adults with a light intellectual disability manifest social inclusion? Method: qualitative research conducted by means od in-depth interview. The empirical material was interpreted by using the assumptions of the hermeneutical-phenomenological perspective. The research involved 15 adults with a light intellectual disability aged 23-37 from Poland. Results: The subjects have acces to health care, use public transport when needed and are familiar with digital technology and electronic banking services. Those, who are not well acquainted with electronic media use debit card. Participation in cultural events is not always well accessed by people with intellectual disability. The respondents are not exposed to social exclusion due to their economic standing. Those, who are not professionally active are offered institutional support when it is necessary. Conlusion: Light intellectual disability, in case of the group of people subject to the tests performed, does not constitute a factor limiting social incusion. Adequate cognitive resources possessed by the respondents as well as social roles they play supports their blending into the community of people without disabilities.

An Empirical Investigation of Engineering Students' Attitute Towards Sports and Physical Education, Cultural Activities and Stress Management

Abstract: This study gives an empirical perspective regarding engineering students towards sports and physical education, cultural activities and stress management. This research examines various motives for participation and non-participation in various activities. College students involved in lot of stress due to academic work, competition, daily hassles, parental expectations etc. Total sample of 270 respondents who were pursuing Bachelor of Engineering was selected. The students chosen for the study were from departments of Electronics and Telecommunication (E&TC), Computer Science (CSE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Information Technology (IT) and Electrical Engineering (EE). Chi-square testing was used to taste the stated hypothesis in Research Methodology. This research concludes that students perusing engineering are actively involved in various activities because they are aware of benefit of active participation in sports, physical education and cultural events. At the same time they are also aware about stress management and what are most important causing factors of stress. Result of Hypothesis testing proves that Stress Management is directly proportional to EducationalPerformance & Parental Expectation. Sports activities found significant impact on Physical Fitness whereas participation in cultural events if directly related to Stress Management. The Power of Places in Building Cultural and Arts Education Networks and Cooperation in Rural Areas

Volunteering plays a central role in cultural and arts education in rural areas in Germany. However, a decrease in the number of volunteers in structurally weak regions can be observed in recent years. This poses existential challenges for cultural and arts education. The promotion of social networks and regional cooperation, as well as a sense of place, can counteract this decline. This article aims to explore how sense of place influence cooperation and thus social networks between actors of different institutions in the context of cultural and arts education in rural areas. A total of 34 interviews and egocentric network maps were conducted with different local actors (e.g., volunteers in the theatre association, mayors, etc.) in four municipalities. The data were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Our results show that, through active participation in cultural events and associations, new cooperation is created and maintained, which also expands the social network. This active participation can be positively influenced by the existing attachment to the region and cultural places.

WW‐FINGERS‐SARS‐CoV2 in Finland: Changes in lifestyle and risk factors for cognitive impairment during the pandemic in the FINGER study

BackgroundRestrictions enforced in many counties during the COVID‐19 pandemic may have both short‐ and long‐term effects on the risk factors relevant for cognitive impairment and dementia. The COVID‐19 pandemic occurred during the post‐intervention follow‐up phase of the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER) postponing the planned follow‐up visits of the participants. We investigated how the first phase of the COVID‐19 pandemic affected lifestyles and other risk factors among the FINGER participants using a postal survey.MethodA survey was sent in June 2020 to 859 eligible FINGER participants. The survey was developed to assess the effects of the COVID‐19 pandemic and related infection‐control measures on lifestyles, daily life, commitment to distancing measures, access to healthcare and social services, and changes in cognitive and social activities, as well as emotional health and wellbeing.ResultA total of 735 participants responded to the survey (85% of the eligible participants). They were on average 78 years old at the time of the survey. Majority of the participants adopted some distancing practices during the first months of the pandemic. Older participants were more likely to practice total isolation than younger ones. Pandemic‐related changes were reported in social engagement, including less contact with friends and family, and less frequent participation in cultural events or associations, but on the other hand the frequency of remote contacts with others was increased. About a third of the participants reported that their physical activity was reduced, and this was more common among those who had been less active earlier. Pandemic‐related changes in lifestyle and activities were more evident among those living alone.ConclusionFinnish older persons were mainly reporting that they coped in the pandemic situation quite well. Older participants seemed to be more susceptible to negative changes. Also persons with less physical activity previously were likely to reduce their activities even more. This may have long‐term consequences on the cognitive health of older adults, and it may also impact the longer‐term effects of the FINGER intervention.

МУЗИЧНА ОСВІТА В ЗАГАЛЬНООСВІТНІХ ЗАКЛАДАХ ЗАПОРІЗЬКОГО КРАЮ (КІНЕЦЬ ХІХ – ПОЧАТОК ХХ СТ.)

У статті проаналізовано становлення музичної освіти у Бердянському, Мелітопольському й Олександрівському повітах, що відповідають нинішньому уявленню про Запорізький край. Виокремлено один із освітніх сегментів регіону – загальноосвітні заклади, що становили вагому складову сукупного музично-освітнього “продукту”. Виявлено особливості музичної освіти в цих закладах. Встановлено аналогію певних типів концертів за участю учнів з концертами у столичних містах. Зроблено висновок про домінування у музично-освітньому процесі повітових середніх шкіл хорової форми з епізодичним вкрапленням інструментально-виконавської форми.

Family and cultural resources that affect an applicant’s acceptance at university

In this article were discussed the influence of family and cultural resources on the applicant admission to a higher educational institution. The relevance of the topic is based on the need to study and improve human capital quality. The main research questions are the family and cultural resources structure, and a person’s family resource relationship with other assets, as well as the conditions for students’ academic achievement. The project is based on a modern resource approach and a theoretical human resources model, proposed by the Russian sociologist Natalia Aleksandrovna Yakovleva to study starting inequality in the student environment. At the empirical part of the study, a survey of St. Petersburg State Institute of Cinema and Television first-year students was performed. Additional project modules were secondary analysis of available sociological results and use of statistical data. The author presents an applicant’s family resources analysis based on such empirical referents as education and professional parents activities, family income, parental attitudes towards higher education for children, family value orientations. Students’ cultural resource was studied according to the activity of visited cultural events, participation in workshops, as well as a set of the most important life attitudes. It was found that the family economic resource, the parents’ education level, family motivation for providing children with higher education, and the creative profession of the father had the greatest impact on admission to the university. Applicants’ cultural capital increased the success of passing the creative test and interview. The main factors in the students’ academic performance are their educational capital, participation in cultural events, and the family cultural capital. The study prospect is to expand the empirical project base for a comparative analysis of the applicants’ and their families’ universities choice with different ratings.

A probabilistic model of the impact of cultural participation on social capital

ABSTRACT This study attempts to construct a computer-based probabilistic model of the social impact of cultural events, which may be useful for simulating and measuring social impact in a community context. Changes in social capital as a result of actors’ participation in cultural events are modeled, assuming that links exist between cultural participation and social capital measured using the methodology of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. The computer-based probabilistic model for simulation of the social impact of a cultural event flow is developed, and the model for a social impact assessment using statistical socio-cultural data is given. Finally, verification of the developed model is carried out by Monte Carlo-based computer-simulated case study, and the example of application to statistical cultural participation data is presented.

Attitudes of Polish Nurses Toward Selected National Groups.

Introduction: Opening up to global migration processes has contributed to increasing the cultural diversity of Polish society. The diagnosis of nurses' attitudes toward cultural differences is important in the assessment of training needs and in providing professional care. Method: Cross-sectional studies, was carried out in 2018 among 1,271 nurses. In the research, the following scales and questionnaire were used: Bogardus Social Distance and Social Dominance Orientation Scales; Social Approbation Questionnaire and author's questionnaire. Results: The respondents showed the highest social distance toward Russians, Vietnamese, and Chechens. There was a significant dependence of the level of social distance of respondents from age, job seniority, place of residence, education, frequency of contact with representatives of other nationalities, living abroad, care for a person of other nationality, training on transcultural nursing, participation in cultural events regarding representatives of other nationalities. Conclusions: The results of the research indicate the need to train nurses in the field of transcultural nursing.

Mistaken Identities: The Media and Parental Ethno-Religious Socialization in a Midwestern Sikh Community

Strong anti-Islamic sentiments increased dramatically after the 9/11 terror attacks on the United States, leading to an uptick in prejudice and the perpetration of hate crimes targeting Muslims. Sikh men and boys, often mistaken for Muslims, suffered as collateral damage. The overall health of both communities has been adversely affected by these experiences. Faced with such realities, communities and parents often adopt adaptive behaviors to foster healthy development in their children. In this paper, drawing on interviews with 23 Sikh parents from 12 families, we examine Sikh parents’ ethno-religious socialization of their children. The confluence of media stereotyping and mistaken identities has shaped Sikh parents’ beliefs regarding their children’s retention/relinquishment of outward identity markers. Sikh parents, in general, are concerned about the safety of their boys, due to the distinctive appearance of their religious markers, such as the turban. They are engaged in a constant struggle to ensure that their children are not identified as Muslims and to protect them from potential harm. In most of the families in our study, boys were raised to give up wearing the indicators of their ethno-religious group. In addition, many parents took responsibility for educating the wider community about their ethno-religious practices through direct communication, participation in cultural events, and support of other ethno-religious minorities. Policy implications are discussed.

Factors of Demand for Cultural Events in Tourism: the Case of the Czech Republic

The main purpose of the research is to examine selected demand factors for cultural events in tourism in the Czech Republic. Eight hypotheses are formulated. The primary research was carried out in the form of a questionnaire. There were 1666 respondents interviewed in various tourist destinations in the Czech Republic. While testing the hypotheses the Friedman test, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, the Mann-Whitney U test, and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient are used. We confirm the hypotheses that the residents of the Czech Republic think that cultural events are organized more frequently than sports events, shopping events (e.g. markets, trades), exhibitions and fairs, and religious events in the Czech Republic, the motives for participation in cultural events are mainly experience and entertainment, women more often participate in cultural events than men, men more often attend sports events than women, and people take the greatest pleasure to participate in cultural events and not in the other events (sports events, shopping events, exhibitions and fairs, and religious events). We reject the hypotheses that summer is the best season for organizing events, that families are more likely to participate in cultural events than single people or people with friends, and that advertising in mass media has the greatest influence on the decision to visit cultural events. The benefit of the paper is to focus the research on a new area of tourism development in the Czech Republic – organizing events at tourist destinations and trying to reveal the impact of various factors on demand for cultural events. Organization of events in tourism is a relatively large area, therefore, it opens further possibilities of exploring this issue in terms of the organized events' impact on tourist destinations, the offering of organized events, managing organized events. Fataluku Labor Migration and Transnational Care in Timor-Leste

The emergence of a vibrant remittance economy in East Timor, generated by growing numbers of labor migrants working overseas, has been an unexpected feature of Timor-Leste’s post-Independence years. Formal and informal labor-migration schemes are part of this new economic landscape, and the remittance dollars that flow back to Timor-Leste are having profound, positive effects on communities there. Some of the striking impacts of this trend include funding house construction, renovations, and upgrades; subsidizing everyday expenses (energy, clothing, food); underwriting education costs; and intensifying expenditures on and participation in cultural events (celebrations, ceremonies, and rituals). Drawing on Stephen Gudeman’s (2001) conceptual dialectic between the interactive realms of community and market economies, this article reflects on the impacts and implications of the growing flow of financial assistance. The focus here is on Fataluku-speaking households, whose members have been particularly likely to work overseas and send remittances home.

Акцентрировано на становлениии деятельности УПО, которыеудовлетворяли профессиональные,национальные, культурные, социально-экономические интересы в поликультурнойи инонациональной среде. Установлено, чтокультурно-просветительская деятельностьчленов УПО включала созданиепрофессиональных курсов для подготовкиквалифицированных педагогов и повышенияконкурентоспособности украинскихэмигрантов на ехослочвацкомобразовательном рынке труда и украинскихэтнических территориях; издательскуюдеятельность; организацию и участиев культурно-массовых мероприятиях.

Establishing a creative identity: Rebranding a creative space

Strategies on audience development have become central to cultural debates in Malta. Such interest stems partly from Malta's current low rate of participation in cultural events. While there has been a rising interest in analysing cultural consumption and audiences quantitatively, the modes of agency of cultural participants, who reflexively make sense of events differently, have received inadequate attention. This article tackles this gap by presenting empirical results of a recent qualitative study on audiences' reflexivity for the National Centre for Creativity in Valletta, Malta. The contribution of this article lies in the fact that it provides an epistemological understanding of the meanings and feelings of audiences for engagement, or lack of it, in cultural participation at the National Centre for Creativity in Malta. Results presented in this article were used as guiding frame in the process of rebranding this national Centre as a creative space in the capital city of Malta.

Cultural events provided by employer and occupational wellbeing of employees: A cross-sectional study among hospital nurses.

Occupational well-being in health care is essential for the quality of care and productivity. Some of the major challenges facing hospital nurses are the personnel turnover, emotional loading and health care reforms. After primary occupational safety and risk management, complementary positive health promotion approaches with cultural interventions can be experimented. To examine the association between well-being indicators of hospital nurses and their participation in cultural events provided by the employer (theater, concerts, exhibitions, museums, sight-seeing, and musicals) during past 6 months. Subjective well-being was measured by work engagement, workplace support for new ideas, work satisfaction and experienced stress. A dose-dependent association was found between participation in cultural events and positive psychology parameters of occupational well-being (support for new ideas and work engagement), but the experience of stress was unrelated to participation in cultural events. Collective participation has a positive covariant effect on work engagement and seems to mediate the innovative work climate measured by workplace support for new ideas. Collective cultural events for employees may promote positive aspects of occupational wellbeing.
