Understanding the User-Generated Geographic Information by Utilizing Big Data Analytics for Health Care.

There are two main ways to achieve an active lifestyle, the first is to make an effort to exercise and second is to have the activity as part of your daily routine. The study's major purpose is to examine the influence of various kinds of physical engagements on density dispersion of participants in Shanghai, China, and even prototype check-in data from a Location-Based Social Network (LBSN) utilizing a mix of spatial, temporal, and visualization methodologies. This paper evaluates Weibo used for big data evaluation and its dependability in some types rather than physically collected proofs by investigating the relationship between time, class, place, frequency, and place of check-in built on geographic features and related consequences. Kernel density estimation has been used for geographical assessment. Physical activities and frequency allocation are formed as a result of hour-to-day consumption habits. Our observations are based on customer check-in activities in physical venues such as gyms, parks, and playing fields, the prevalence of check-ins, peak times for visiting fun parks, and gender disparities, and we applied relative difference formulation to reveal the gender difference in a much better way. The purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of physical activity and health-related standard of living on well-being in a selection of Shanghai inhabitants.

"Non-Invasive Quantification of Human Throat Analysis in Endoscopy Scanning Method"

An upper GI endoscopy or EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) is a procedure to diagnose and treat problems in your upper GI (gastrointestinal) tract. The upper GI tract includes your food pipe (esophagus), stomach, and the first part of your small intestine (the duodenum). This procedure is done using a long, flexible tube called an endoscope. The tube has a tiny light and video camera on one end. The tube is put into your mouth and throat. Then it is slowly pushed through your esophagus and stomach, and into your duodenum. Video images from the tube are seen on a monitor. You may have an upper GI endoscopy as an outpatient or as part of your stay in a hospital. After the procedure, you will be taken to the recovery room to be watched. Once your blood pressure, pulse, and breathing are stable and you are awake and alert, you will be taken to your hospital room. Or you may be discharged to your home. If you are going home, someone must drive you. You will not be allowed to eat or drink anything until your gag reflex returns. This is to prevent you from choking. You may have a sore throat and pain for a few days when you swallow. This is normal. You may go back to your normal diet and activities, unless you have other instructions.Call your healthcare provider if you have any of the following:Fever or chillsRedness, swelling, or bleeding or other drainage from the IV siteBelly pain, nausea, or vomitingBlack, tarry, or bloody stoolsTroubleswallowingThroat or chest pain that gets worseyour healthcare provider may give you other instructions, depending on your situation.

Tips for Parents of Adolescents: Common Concerns

Adolescence is the time between childhood and adulthood that children go through many physical and emotional changes. Here is information from the American Academy of Pediatrics about common concerns during adolescence. Teen is used in this publication to refer to adolescents, teenagers, preteens, and tweens. Many teens try extreme diets or exercise programs because they want their bodies to look like those of the models, singers, actors, or athletes they see in the media, or they have a misguided understanding of what is “healthy.” Be aware of any diet or exercise program your teen is following. Many diets are unhealthy for teens because they do not have the nutritional value that bodies need during puberty. If you have questions about your teen’s nutritional needs, ask their doctor. If you are concerned about rapid weight loss or suspect your teen has an eating disorder, contact your teen’s doctor right away. Eating disorders like anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa can be very dangerous, and treating them promptly is critical for recovery. If your teen wants to train with weights, they should check with their doctor, as well as a trainer, coach, or physical education teacher. Also, help create a positive self-image by praising teens for their strengths and not focusing on their appearance. Set a good example by making eating right and exercising a part of your daily routine. Avoid negative self-talk or dieting. At home, stock up on healthy snacks like fruit, raw vegetables, whole-grain crackers, and yogurt, and limit unhealthy snacks like candy, cookies, chips, and soda pop. Teens are naturally curious about sex. This is completely normal and healthy. However, teens may be pressured into having sex too soon by their peers or the media. Talk with your teen to understand their feelings and views about sex. Start early, and provide them with access to accurate and appropriate information. Making healthy decisions about sex is important. Before your teen becomes sexually active, make sure you discuss Teens may try or use tobacco like vaping devices, e-cigarettes, or chewing tobacco, and alcohol, or other drugs, out of curiosity or to deal with peer pressure. Help build self-confidence or self-esteem in your teen. If you suspect your teen is using drugs, talk with your teen’s doctor. Note: If you or someone else in the household smokes, now is a good time to quit. Watching a parent struggle through quitting can be a powerful message for a teen who is thinking about starting. It also shows you care about your health as well as your teen’s. Alcohol is not only the most socially accepted drug in our society but also one of the most abused and destructive. Even small amounts of alcohol can impair judgment, provoke risky and violent behavior, and slow down reaction time. An intoxicated teen (or anyone else) behind the wheel of a car makes it a lethal weapon. Alcohol-related car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens and young adults aged 15 to 24 years. Although it’s illegal for people younger than 21 years to drink, we all know most teens are not strangers to alcohol. Many of them witness alcohol use throughout their childhood, and many begin alcohol use as teens. If you choose to use alcohol in your home, be aware of the example you are setting. Well-child visits (annual health supervision visits) are especially important during adolescence. Your teen’s doctor will make sure your teen is on a healthy track and suggest necessary changes to get on track and how to stay on track. Joint contributions for force dissipation during landings in athletes with Patellar tendinopathy

Previous studies showed that adopting forward trunk lean and forefoot strike patterns may reduce risk of running-related knee injuries. However, the process of learning such forms is unclear. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of a 4-week training using simple postural instructions to elicit these changes.Longitudinal intervention study.A training included postural instructions: 1) lean your trunk forward, and 2) land on the front part of your feet.Eighteen recreational runners.Participants were assessed prior to training (PRE), immediately after the instructions (iPST), during training at 2 weeks (2WK) and 4 weeks (4WK), and 7–10 days after the conclusion of training (RET). Assessment consisted of running trials performed at self-selected and controlled speeds, during which the trunk and foot strike angles were assessed.Comparing to PRE, forward trunk angle significantly increased by approximately 3.5° and foot strike angle by approximately 7° at 2WK, 4WK and RET.A 4-week training with simple postural instructions induced significant changes in trunk and foot strike patterns in recreational runners. Future study is needed to develop clinical therapeutic protocols for runners with and at risk of running-related knee injuries.

Meditations on the Psalms in words and images: an arts-integrated spiritual practice

ABSTRACTRobert McDowell (2008. Poetry as spiritual practice (Kindle ed.). New York: Free Press) defines poetry as spiritual practice as “reading poems, writing your own poems and making them a part of your daily rituals, aspirations, and intentions” (Introduction, para. 5). I engaged in daily meditations on the Psalms in words and images by reading a Psalm, creating a mandala, then writing a poetic response. This practice incorporated poetry as spiritual practice, the I/Thou wholeness of mandala making, and the life-encompassing worship inherent to the Psalms. This spiritual practice rested on the foundations of expressive arts therapy as presented by Shaun McNiff (2009. Unifying elements for all media. In Integrating the arts in therapy: History, theory, and practice. Springfield, IL: Charles C. Thomas) – structure and freedom, witnessing and responding, and the creative space. This practice could be modified for use with any poetic text that lends itself to insight, personal growth, and self-reflection. It employs multiple modalities for high impact engagement with the Psalms and multiple entrances for self-reflection.

The Writing Process in Systems Thinking

This note provides detailed guidance for analyzing a complex business problem using the systems thinking tools: reference behavior patterns, systems archetypes, causal-loop diagrams, and stock-flow maps. Dear President Obama: Letters From Kogelo And Beyond, Elizabeth Ochieng Onayemi

DEAR PRESIDENT OBAMA: LETTERS FROM KOGELO AND BEYOND. Kisumu, Kenya: Mountain View Publishers. 75 pp. In Dear President Obama: Letters from Kogelo and Beyond, Elizabeth Ochieng Onayemi, a graduate of Kenyatta University and teacher at the International School of Uganda, has used the genre that she terms Afro novella to create letters in which she makes Kenyans share their experiences and dreams for the future with president Barack H. Obama of the United States. This publication offers letters purported to have been written from various parts of Kenya by different male and female writers. The series begins with a fictionalized missive from a young Kenyan, who expresses the pride that the American leader inspires in people from Kogelo Village, his kith and kin. Associated with this letter is a name that bears some historicity: that writer is George Washington Mandela Okumu, named after America’s founding president, George Washington, and post-apartheid South African president Mandela. Okumu describes himself: “I am twelve years old, and I’m a standard five student at Kogelo Primary School. I am a bit older than the other students in my class[,] which is okay because I am a very short boy” (p. 5). Expressing a sentiment that many other Kenyans share, Okumu informs Obama that “the day you became the President of the United States of America was the best day of my life” (p. 7). Also from Kogelo Village is a letter supposed to have been written by Mama Magdalina Oyier. She shows her Christian background by starting thus: “Sara’s Grandson, I greet you in the name of Jesus. … By God’s grace, we are all fine here in Kogelo” (p. 10). This writer shows familiarity by invoking the first name of Obama’s Kenyan grandmother (Sara Obama), adding on the same page: “I am one of your grandmother’s best friends.” The next writer, Oloo Mbuta Masembe, begins by informing Obama of the African way of doing things: “My father used to refer to your father as his brother, so you are my brother” (p. 15). As Africans do, this writer gives Obama an African name: “Nyathiwa, we are proud of you here in Kogelo. When I heard of this communal letter to you, I decided to contribute. Unfortunately, I don’t write well. I am a class four drop [sic] out and a failure to some people but not all” (p. 15). Brenda Emily Awino’s letter was encouraged by her father: “My dad says I absolutely have to write this letter, and I must admit I think it’s kind of cool. It’s a great pleasure to write to you. My name is Brenda Emily Awino and I am part of your extended family” (p. 18). She insinuates that one must remember one’s roots: “My dad says we should remember where we come from, and I do.” And from all indications, Obama does, as he paid a visit to Kenya as a sitting President of the United States, when he ate dinner with thirty selected extended family members. He had a warm relationship with Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta, the son of the country’s founding president, Jomo Kenyatta (1891–1978), the famous “Burning Spear,” whose [End Page 113] Kikuyu ethnic group created and led the Mau Mau uprising against British colonial rule. About a dozen more writers appear in Onayemi’s imaginary book. Their surnames show that they are from varied Kenyan ethnic groups: Kamau, Owiti, Shah, Amollo, Abdullahi, Konchellah, and Nyangweso. Onanyemi ends her book with the poem “As I Grew Older,” by Langston Hughes (1902–1967), the famous African American poet, who in 1960 received the Spingarn Medal of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and in 1935 received a Guggenheim Fellowship as a writer. It is a two-page poetic treat, which—like the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream” speech—discusses a dream, in Hughes’s words, which echoes: “I have almost forgotten my dream” (p. 76). How did you become involved in the medical device industry?I took a position with 3M Medical Imaging Systems in St. Paul, MN. My primary assignment dealt with image quality control for picture archiving and communication systems. These systems were used for the digitization, transport, film printing, and display of a variety of medical imaging modalities with which 3M was involved. Eventually, I was asked to help author a 510(K) submission.What other industries have you been involved in, and how did those experiences help you in the device world?I started my career in aerospace and defense. I've also worked in industrial automated optical inspection, and contract engineering for a variety of industrial and consumer electronics firms. These positions ultimately gave me a broad perspective on how products are developed, and, most importantly, that successful products are the ones that meet well-understood user needs.What got you interested in standards work?While working at 3M, I was asked to attend a few committee meetings for the Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine imaging standard that was then in development. I had no idea that one day I'd be chest deep in standards work!What's the best part of your job?As a coordinator for standards management at the corporate level at Boston Scientific, I have visibility to all of our product families, as well as the teams that apply standards. My involvement with external standard development organizations also has been rewarding, in that I have had the chance to contribute to standards that are used all over the world. I also have enjoyed meeting and getting to know a variety of interesting people.What's the most challenging?While some think it sounds exotic and exciting to travel all over the world to attend committee meetings, it's also very exhausting!What's been the proudest moment of your career?I was honored with the H.W. Sweatt Award at Honeywell for my efforts leading a team to develop a new signal processing technology. It was a good feeling to be recognized for several years of effort, but what I was most proud of was the team members with whom I worked. They deserved it more than I did.What is the best career advice you ever got?Don't become complacent in your current position, for it might not be there tomorrow! Always have a second career option, and stay in touch with your network.What is one thing about you that others might be surprised to learn?That my main hobby is pyrotechnics!Who is your hero and why?My dad. While he had many faults, he had in innate curiosity for all things scientific. Chicken or pig?

Are you a chicken or a pig? You may be asking yourself what in the world this question has to do with health-system pharmacy. It actually stems from a leadership scenario about breakfast—if you're having bacon and eggs for breakfast, the chicken is a bystander while the pig is committed and involved. What does all this have to do with health- system pharmacy? Lots! Do you consider yourself a committed and involved pharmacist, or are you more of a bystander? Are you actively involved in pharmacy or health care organizations? Do you seek out educational activities, even if your hospital is not able to pay for your registration or travel? Do you participate in hospital activities, including those that may not directly involve the pharmacy? Are you involved with activities in your community? Or do you leave all this to others?■Whether you're a bystander or an active participant, you can take on more responsibilities at your pharmacy or in a health care organization. ■Whether you're a bystander or an active participant, you can take on more responsibilities at your pharmacy or in a health care organization. Involvement in a professional organization can mean many things— from attendance and participation in meetings, to serving on a committee or task force, to running for a leadership position. Participation provides many benefits, such as continuing education, e-mail lists, mentors, or publication opportunities. But most importantly, participation helps keep you updated on the key players and current trends within pharmacy and health care. By interacting with others, it is possible to learn of new opportunities within pharmacy, as well as innovative best practices for common issues or problems. You can participate on committees or task forces within professional organizations or within your own health system. Working on a committee is an ideal way to learn new skills that you may not often see in your current position. For example, if you need some experience with budgeting, join a committee that handles financial obligations. If you want experience working on a website, join a committee that oversees your health system's Internet presence. These opportunities help you diversify your skills by participating in activities not part of your daily job. Committees are also good places to help develop career objectives. Smaller committees and task forces are opportunities to establish meaningful professional relationships. By developing these connections, you can learn more about the organization or health system and find out what kinds of resources exist for career development. Leadership roles within a professional organization, although not for everyone, can be extremely rewarding. The skills used in leading an organization correlate well to the skills needed for advancement into management roles within a pharmacy or hospital. So, back to the original question. I hope that thinking about the answer hasn't given you insomnia, but are you a chicken or a pig? If you are an active, involved pharmacist, then encourage others to do the same. If you are more of a bystander, then consider how you might get more involved in a pharmacy or health care organization.

How and why did you and your brother start Intelliject?My brother and I grew up with severe, life-threatening allergies to all peanuts, seafood, tree nuts, eggs, and many antibiotics. Like many other allergic individuals, we struggled to carry our epinephrine auto-injector with us. As we were traveling to Europe for vacation the summer before entering college, we thought we had left our epinephrine auto-injector at home. Fortunately, our diligent parents did not forget, but a discussion ensued about creating a new auto-injector that could better meet our needs and the perceived needs of other patients like us. As a result, we shaped our education around this idea of a novel epinephrine auto-injector. Eric studied medicine and pharmaceutical science, and I studied mechanical engineering, as well as systems engineering with a focus on human factors.What does the movement of more healthcare into homes mean for design?As more therapies move into the home, it is critical for developers and manufacturers to provide solutions catered to the specific user population. Does Religiosity Promote or Discourage Social Trust? Evidence from Cross-Country and Cross-State Comparisons

We look at the effect of religiosity on social trust, defined as the share of a population that thinks that people in general can be trusted. This is important since social trust is related to many desired outcomes, such as growth, education, democratic stability and subjective well-being. The effect of religiosity is theoretically unclear: while all major religions call for behaving well to others, religious groups may primarily trust people in their own groups and distrust others, as well as cause division in the broader population. We make use of new data from the Gallup World Poll for 105 countries and the U.S. states, measuring religiosity by the share of the population that answers yes to the question “Is religion an important part of your daily life?”. Our empirical results, making use of regression analysis whereby we control for other possible determinants of social trust and, by using instrumental variables, for the risk of reverse causality, indicate a robust, negative effect of religiosity, both internationally and within the US. When interacting religiosity with the degree of religious fractionalization, we find that the negative effect occurs above a rather low threshold level of fractionalization, where it increases monotonically, in line with our theoretical prediction.
