Smart Bag – supported with mobile App

The uses of bags, for travellers, have been an integral part of life. People face difficulties in securing their bags against theft during travel and luggage transit. The emerging Internet of Things technologies and IoT devices like sensors, microcontrollers, GPS/GSM modules, RFID tags/ readers, fingerprint scanner and many such components helps immensely in automation and can be used to collate vast amounts of data, ranging from time- series data from sensors to spatial data. The objective of this project is to make travel bags smart by using the IoT devices and utilizing the captured data to thwart from robbery of personal belongings and to eliminate theft to great extent. The proposed smart bag with a mobile application keeps owner credentials like finger print, passcodes and other security components collected and endorsed using the IoT devices can be used to track the bag. And if the bag is stolen an emergency notifications sent to the owner mobile and used the geographical data to track down to the culprit in precision time before the stolen bag is mutilated. These and other features elaborated in this article helps the law enforcement officers track criminals easily. The smart bag will also benefit banks in secure fund transfer among automatic teller machines and business enterprises in exchanging confidential documents.

Remote-control of multi appliances based latching circuit and DTMF

There are multiple technologies used to remotely control electric appliances like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, global system for mobile (GSM), and dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF), but these technologies contain limitations, whether by coverage distance or by the number of devices that are controlled remotely. In this paper, these restrictions were overcome with the use of DTMF and digital latching devices, which doubles the number of remote-controlled electrical appliances compared to other research using the same intended technology DTMF. Using the proposed mechanism in this paper enables the users to effectively control several electric remote devices equal to the standard number of mobile keypad buttons, so in this way, can control 12 devices. This is via the mobile phone by sending commands in the form of analog tones through calling to auto-answer remote control panel phone (RCPP). An interesting feature of this research, each keypad key of the owner mobile (OM) using to control one remote electric device to switch it ON or OFF, so that the first pressing will cause to switch it ON and the second pressing caused to switching it OFF. This method is used instead of using two keypad keys, one for ON and the other for OFF. The proposed idea working is the same as manually switching but here remotely and electronically. This feature is achieved by using a D-latch digital circuit. The work is implemented and tested by using Proteus simulation program.

The Misallocation Problem of Subsidized Housing: A Lesson from Hong Kong

Providing affordable housing has become one of China’s key national policy agenda items. The shared-equity model in Hong Kong, implemented since the late 1970s, has assisted many families in owning a home in the public housing market. However, little attention has been paid to their welfare after acquiring their subsidized units. This study aims to examine how shared-equity homeownership distorts residential mobility through in-kind subsidies. Panel data analysis reveals that the more in-kind subsidies owners receive, the longer they would hold on to their units in spite of spatial mismatches. Private owners, on the other hand, would trade their units without such distortion. Conceptually, the lower mobility of assisted owners could be interpreted as a new source of misallocation in Glaeser and Luttmer’s welfare analysis. Practically, this throws into question the sustainability of a subsidizing homeownership policy: does the government ultimately want assisted homeowners to move from public housing to private housing in the future (for which high mobility would be intended)? If so, new thinking on how to make in-kind subsidies transferable is needed.

Daily mobility patterns of small business owners and homeworkers in post-industrial cities

The rise of small businesses, self-employment, and homeworking are transforming traditional industrial ways of working. Our research fills a noticeable gap in the literature by using portable devices (i.e., smartphones) to capture individual mobility data on an understudied population group – small business owners (owner managers and self-employed with up to 49 employees) and whether they work from home in comparison with employees who work at their employer's premises or partly or mainly from home. We recorded week-long individual GPS data on 702 participants and derived a set of measures of daily mobility (number of trips, trip duration, trip distance, and maximum distance from home). Each measure is modelled against a range of individual and neighbourhood-level covariates. Our findings contrast with existing studies that suggest homeworking or self-employment may be associated with lower levels of daily mobility or with compensatory effects between work and non-work travel. Overall, our study points to higher levels of daily mobility of owners of small businesses and the self-employed in cities as they travel longer distances. Further, some homeworkers have on aggregate longer daily trip distances than ‘traditional’ premise-based employees. Most striking, female home-based business owners fall into this group. If homeworking is here to stay after the COVID-19 pandemic, we may see both increases and/or decreases of daily mobility depending on worker types and gender.

Multiagent Actor-Critic Network-Based Incentive Mechanism for Mobile Crowdsensing in Industrial Systems

Mobile crowdsensing (MCS) is an appealing sensing paradigm that leverages the sensing capabilities of smart devices and the inherent mobility of device owners to accomplish sensing tasks with the aim of constructing powerful industrial systems. Incentivizing mobile users (MUs) to participate in sensing activities and contribute high-quality data is of paramount importance to the success of MCS services. In this article, we formulate the competitive interactions between a sensing platform (SP) and MUs as a multistage Stackelberg game with the SP as the leader player and the MUs as the followers. Given the unit prices announced by MUs, the SP calculates the quantity of sensing time to purchase from each MU by solving a convex optimization problem. Then, each follower observes the trading records and iteratively adjusts their pricing strategy in a trial-and-error manner based on a multiagent deep reinforcement learning algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

Design and Monitor Smart Automatic Challan Generation Based on RFID Using GPS and GSM

Most of cities and small regions the traffic Challan generation system is manual process. Sometime it turns into corruption because of traffic police write something else on challan paper or it generate fake challan book and pay to government something else. Therefore, to overcome this problem, we made the smart automatic challan system has worked based on RFID to retrieve the information of vehicle when traffic rule break and track the location of vehicle via GPS to send it on the server. The server has display the information on the tab given to every traffic police locate in specific area. The traffic police can select offences and fine will be generating automatically calculates by system and sends it to server. Then server is stored the information in database and send via SMS of challan to vehicle owner mobile. In this system, we are focusing on to track right vehicle and give the proper information of ruled break by vehicle to higher end.

A trend of international collaborations between inventers

The article analyses data on the international collaborations between inventors from different countries, obtained from a special research completed by the European Commission focusing on the national patent portfolios of European Union countries, countries included in the European Association of Free Trade, countries of North America and Asia.It is noted that learning diffusions and matching of technological solutions are becoming an independent trend of the economics science as it allows to determine the patterns and conditions for achieving technological leadership of companies as well as the whole regions in the world. The current research focuses on the balance between an open exchange of industrially applicable expertise and limitations of the diffusion of technological competencies as a necessary condition for achieving leadership in the markets of highly technological products and services.The article concludes stating that the growth of «hybrid» and «external» patents in various regions of the world, determined by European Commission is, most likely, related to the growth of academic mobility of owners of the unique engineering and research teams, and not due to globalisation and internalisation of industrially applicable expertise, that is always used as a tool for competitive fight for markets of products with a high added value.

Design and Implementation of Vehicle Navigation System in Urban Environments using Internet of Things (Iot)

Advanced vehicle monitoring and tracking system based on embedded Linux board and android application is designed and implemented for monitoring the school vehicle from any location A to location B at real time. The present system would make good use of new technology that based on embedded Linux namely Raspberry Pi and Smartphone android application. This system works on GPS/GPRS/GSM SIM900A. GPS finds the current location of the vehicle, GPRS sends the tracking information to the server and the GSM is used for sending alert message to vehicle’s owner mobile. This system is placed inside the vehicle whose position is to be determined on the web page and monitored at real time. There is a comparison between the current vehicle path already specified paths into the file system. Inside the raspberry pi’s file system taken from vehicle owners through android phone using android application. Means the selection of path from location A to B takes place from vehicle owner’s android application which gives more safety and secures traveling to the traveler. Hence the driver drives the vehicle only on the vehicle owner’s specified path. The driver drives the vehicle only on the vehicle owner’s specified path but if the driver drives in wrong path the message alert will be sent from this system to the vehicle owners mobile and also sent speakers alert to driver through audio jack. If the vehicles speed goes beyond the specified value of the speed, then warning message will be sent to owner mobile. This system also takes care of the traveler’s safety by using Gas leakage and Temperature sensors

DESIGNING A VEHICLE ALARM NOTIFICATION SYSTEM USING GSM NETWORK

This paper focuses on studying and designing of vehicle alarm by using GSM network as well as to provide the user with information via SMS on whether an intrusion or some other possible factors have triggered the alarm. Nowadays, all vehicles are equipped with an alarm system that will alert the vehicle owner if there is any intrusion detected. However, when the vehicle alarm is triggered, the vehicle owner is unaware of the siren. They might be somewhere far away from their vehicle parking and sometimes there is no intrusion instead there is a false alarm. Alarm trigger for a long time will cause the vehicle’s battery to decrease and will annoy the passers-by. This paper is subdivided into two phases. First, the study on how to integrate GSM devices to send SMS to the vehicle owner's mobile phone. The second phase of this paper is to design and develop a mechanism that can alert the vehicle owner from a remote location by using GSM. As a proof of concept, the proposed mechanism is then validated through a lab scale experiment. This paper is expected to enhance the existing alarm system to benefit all users in order to protect their vehicle.

Vehicle Theft Alert and Location Identification Using GSM, GPS and Web Technologies

Insecurity is one of the major challenges that the entire world is facing now, each country having their peculiar security issues. The crime rate in every part of the society these days has become a threatening issue such that vehicles are now used for co mmitting criminal activities mo re than before. The issue of vehicle theft has increased tremendously, mostly at gunpoint or car parks. In view of these, there is a need for adequate records of stolen, identified and recovered vehicles which are not readily available in our society and as such very important. The development of a vehicle theft alert and location identification system beco mes more necessary for vehicle o wners to ensure theft prevention and a speedy identification towards recovery efforts in situations where a vehicle is missing, stolen or driven by an unauthorized person. The theft alert function makes use of a GSM applicat ion developed and installed in a mobile phone device wh ich is embedded in the vehicle to communicate with the vehicle owner's mobile phone. The communicat ion is established via SMS (i.e. between the installed mobile phone device and that of the vehicle owner). The co mmunications established include; (i). Sending an SMS alert fro m installed mobile phone device to vehicle owner mobile phone when the car ignition is put on. (ii). Sending an SMS fro m the vehicle owner's mobile phone to start and stop the installed mobile phone device application. The location identificat ion function makes use of a web application developed to; (i). Determine the real time location of a vehicle by means of tracking using GPS. (ii). Broadcast missing or stolen vehicle informat ion to social media and security agency. The implementation of the installed mobile phone device application was done using JAVA because of its capabilit ies in programming mobile applications while PHP and MySQL was used for the web application functions. Integration testing of the system was carried out using simple percentage calculation for the performance evaluation. Fifty seven (57) vehicle owners were sampled and questionnaires were d istributed to them in order to ascertain the acceptability and wo rkab ility of the developed system. The result obtained shows the effectiveness of the system and hence it can be used to effectively monitor vehicle as it is been driven within or outside its jurisdiction. More so, the system can be used as database of missing, identified or recovered vehicles by various security agencies. Index Terms—Veh icle, Theft alert, Location identification, Tracking, GPS.

Home Automation - Home Appliances Controlled Using Mobile Phone Call

Here we have chosen our Topic as “Home Automation”. The main idea for this project is due to change in our life style we likely to settle in a place in peace. Due to various emerging technologies our life style is becoming more sophisticated, in adding to the various growing technologies we like to add our small concept of “Luxurious Home”, where it means the home automation. The way of automation may take in many ways such as through remote or voice controlled. Here in our project we have implemented the Home Automation by using GSM Mobile phones. The main reason for choosing the Mobile Phone as remote is that, most of the times we are with our lovable mobile phones only, and also with a theme that “ONE DEVICE FOR ALL CONTROLLING PURPOSE”. The main advantage in using this way of Home Automation than compared to other home automation in the market is that it could be used or operated from anywhere i.e.: either being inside the home or outside, the electronic devices could be operated. Inside home the appliance could be operated by using the fixed mobile phone as a remote control. If outside from home the appliance in home place can be controlled using a phone call made from the owner mobile to the inbuilt phone at the home premise. So the call would be automatically attended by the inbuilt mobile phone and accepts the owner keypad instruction and control the appliances according to the owners instruction.

Antitheft System in Vehicle with Automatic Headlights

Now a day’s we see that vehicles stolen are on the rise and police has registered so many cases of vehicle stolen every day. Ironically, most of the stolen vehicles are not recovered. Hence it has become a serious issue over years. Besides this world has facing a very serious problem due to accidents of vehicles on roads, it causes loss of life and property. Therefore I have come up with a concept of developing a wireless technology based vehicle theft information system to provide security to vehicles from theft. In this concept if someone tries to steal the vehicle then a SMS is send to the owner mobile through GSM technology that your vehicle has been stolen. An added advantage of this system is that the owner can disable the ignition of the vehicle and prevent theft of the vehicle. Also it protects the vehicle from accidents due to glare of eyes of driver by high beam headlights on roads. Since this system contain automatic head light system which can automatically judge when the headlight beam needs to be lowered when some vehicle approaching in front of our vehicle and prevent accidents.

A Zigbee And Embedded Based Security Monitoring And Control System

As technology becomes more advanced and modernized; more features are added to the existing system for the purpose of satisfying the increasing security needs of the people. Deploying wireless technologies for security and control in home offers attractive benefits along with user friendly interface. In this paper we present a smart security system comprises of Zigbee, GSM, Sensors and Smartphone for Security monitoring and control, when the user is at remote premises. Three sensors namely P IR, vibration and door sensor are installed at windows and doors. Whenever there is a security breach the sensors sends the signal to the Pic microcontroller. The Max 232 converter provides serial interface between the microcontroller and the zigbee. The Zigbee end device then transmits the signal to the Zigbee coordinator. The ZC at the control console communicates with MCU using max 232 converters. MCU would in turn access and control the GSM module via AT commands and automatically sends SMS to the owner's mobile phone informing him about the security breach. On receiving the SMS, user can make a video call using Skype account; Smartphone installed at home will feed us with a live video. On viewing the video the user can know whether an intruder has entered or not. Then accordingly faint gas valve and door lock can be controlled by the user. Thus whenever there is an intrusion, our system lets the user to monitor and control his premises from any part of the world.

Home security surveillance system using multi-robot system

This paper presents a home security surveillance system that increases home safety through continuous scanning and monitoring of home environment. The system comprises FireBird-IV robots (FB-IV), Lego-Mindstorms-NXT robots (NXT), a computer and wireless-G cameras. It captures audio-visual information and sends it to the owner's mobile phone. A computer system acts as an interface between the robots to exchange data. Java compatible mobile phones control the movement of NXT via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth protocol facilitates communication between NXT and a computer, and the ZigBee facilitates communication between the computer and FB-IV. A mobile phone controls the NXT within the house. Detecting an obstacle, NXT sends the sensor's value to FB-IV via computer that initiates FB-IV to act intelligently. The wireless-G camera installed on FB-IV sends live video over the internet to a web browser. This system can be used by a house owner to monitor the whole house using his mobile.

Housing busts and household mobility

Using two decades of American Housing Survey data from 1985 to 2007, we revisit the literature on lock-in effects and provide new estimates of the impacts of negative equity and rising interest rates on the mobility of owners. Both lead to substantially lower mobility rates. Owners suffering from negative equity are one-third less mobile, and every added $1000 in real annual mortgage costs lowers mobility by about 12%. Our results cannot simply be extrapolated to the future, but they do have potentially important implications for policy makers concerned about the consequences of the housing bust that began as our data series ended. In particular, they indicate that we need to begin considering the consequences of lock-in and reduced household mobility because they are quite different from those associated with default and higher mobility.

Income Mobility of Owners of Small Businesses When Boundaries between Occupations are Vague

Ownership of small businesses can facilitate upward mobility through the income hierarchy and help individuals maintain a place at the higher end of the income distribution hierarchy. This paper compares the positional stability of owners of small businesses with that of wage earners, arguing that describing the relative position of different occupations faces definitional challenges. For instance, the Norwegian dual income tax system encourages owners of small businesses to establish widely held firms, with themselves as employees, because it reduces the tax burden and increases post-tax income. Descriptions of income distribution mobility of different occupations are therefore in danger of being misleading if such occupational measurement problems are not taken into account. I discuss in this paper the income mobility of owners of small firms in Norway 1993–2003 by estimating income transition models for different definitions of occupational status. Business ownership facilitates upward mobility and helps owners maintain a place at the top of the income distribution scale, and wider definitions of what counts as a small business owner enhance these correlations. However, as the paper shows, business owners are more mobile than wage earners and therefore overrepresented at the lower and higher ends of the income distribution ranking, irrespective of definition.

Housing Busts and Household Mobility

Using two decades of American Housing Survey data from 1985-2005, we estimate the impact on household mobility of owners having negative equity in their homes and of rising mortgage interest rates. We find that both lead to lower, not higher, mobility rates over time. The impacts are economically large, with mobility being almost 50 percent lower for owners with negative equity in their homes. This does not imply that current worries about defaults and owners having to move from their homes are entirely misplaced. It does indicate that, in the past, the lock-in effects of these two factors were dominant over time. Our results cannot simply be extrapolated to the future, but policy makers should begin to consider the consequences of lock-in and reduced household mobility because they are quite different from those associated with default and higher mobility.

Etude épidémiologique descriptive de la Babésiose canine dans la Région Lémanique

A descriptive study was carried out in the district of the Lake Geneva between March 1, 2005 and August 31,2006 to assess the incidence and prevalence of canine babesiosis, to genotype the Babesia species occurring, to assess the most frequently clinical signs found and to address the potential of autochthonous transmission. This included a data assessment on the different tick-populations occurring in the area and on the prevalence of Babesia-DNA in these ticks. A total of 56 veterinary practices participated in the study. By blood smear and PCR, Babesia canis canis was found in 12 out of 21 cases with suspected babesiosis. In an additional 13th case, the parasite could only be detected by PCR. All autochthonous cases originated from the Western part of the Lake Geneva region. Clinical signs in affected dogs included inappetence, apathy, anemia, fever, hemoglobinuria and thrombocytopenia. There were no risk factors with regard to age, sex and breed. Most cases were diagnosed during the spring periods of 2005 and 2006 (11 cases) and two cases in autumn 2005, coinciding with the main activity period of Dermacentor reticulatus, the main vector of B. canis canis. A total of 495 ticks were collected on patients by the veterinarians, 473 were identified as Ixodes sp., 7 as Rhipicephalus sanguineus and 15 as Dermacentor reticulatus. While Ixodes sp. was found in the whole study area, D. reticulatus and R. sanguineus occurred only in the Western part till Lausanne. PCR and sequencing yielded B. canis canis positivity in 3 D. reticulatus specimen, these three ticks were collected from two different dogs both suffering from babesiosis. All R. sanguineus were negative by Babesia-PCR. Global warming, ecological changes in the potential habitat of ticks, increasing host- and vector-populations and increasing mobility of dog owners may be responsible for an emergence situation of infection risk for Babesia spp. by time. E.g., Dermacentor reticulatus has become autochtonously prevalent already till Lausanne in the Lake Geneva region, and further surveillance is suggested to tackle this problem.

모바일 플랫폼 기반의 사람 추적 감시시스템

본 논문에서는 휴대폰을 위한 무선 인터넷 플랫폼의 표준인 WIPI를 이용한 모바일 시스템과 사람추적 시스템을 결합한 모바일 플랫폼 기반의 사람추적 감시시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 크게 사람추적 시스템과 모바일 정보교환 시스템으로 구분된다. 사람추적 시스템에서는 감시지역에 침입한 사람들을 추적하고, 모바일 정보교환 시스템은 사람추적 시스템에서 추적된 결과를 사용자의 모바일 폰으로 전송한다. 본 논문에서 사용하는 사람추적 시스템은 넓은 시야 확보를 위해 카메라의 시야를 겹치지 않게 배치한 상태에서 사람들을 추적한다. 모바일 정보교환 시스템은 추적된 결과를 서버에 자동적으로 저장하여 사용자의 WIPI 모바일 폰으로 저장된 정보를 전달하게 된다. 따라서 추후에 사용자가 감시상황을 재확인하고자 했을 시, 카메라 별 또는 시간 별로 선택하여 영상을 재확인 할 수 있다. 제안된 시스템은 추적 영역과 감시 영역의 공간적 제약과 감시 시간의 시간적 제약을 해결하기 위해 카메라들과 모바일 폰 사이의 추적결과를 교환할 수 있는 새로운 형태의 감시시스템이다. In this paper, we propose a surveillance system using multi-person tracking in a WIPI based mobile system, which is the standard wireless internet platform. The proposed system consists of two subsystems: the person tracking system and the mobile information transmission system. The person tracking system tracks persons who invade security and the mobile information transmission system sends the tracking results from the person tracking system to the user's mobile phone. In this paper, the person tracking system tracks persons who appear on many cameras with non-overlapping views in order to achieve a wider view. The mobile information transmission system saves automatically tracked data to the owner's web server and transmits the saved data to the user's WIPI mobile phone. Therefore, whenever the user wishes to view tracked data later, the mobile system can provide the user with the tracking results by either the user selecting particular cameras or the time on the owner's mobile phone. The proposed system is a new surveillance system that transfers tracked data among cameras to the user's mobile phone in order to overcome space limitations in tracking areas and monitoring areas and spatial limitations in monitoring hours.
