Enhancing Fire Resilience in High-Tech Electronic Plants for Sustainable Development: Combining System Composition with Organizational Management

In the realm of sustainable advancements, high-tech electronics plants have evolved concomitantly with the innovations in environmentally conscious high-tech manufacturing. Nonetheless, the potential for fires in these establishments presents a profound challenge, jeopardizing both human resources and assets, while also bearing ecological implications. However, difficulty exists in understanding the system composition and fire protection features specific to the production environment. Meanwhile, sustainable development-oriented organizational countermeasures for fire resilience are rarely explored in the operations environment. Through a literature review, hypotheses development, an industrial survey, and PLS-SEM analysis using data from 84 questionnaires, this research aims to fill this gap by analyzing the system composition of high-tech electronics plants and its influence on fire resilience, emphasizing the organizational perspective. This study delves into the fire resilience of high-tech electronics plants, drawing particular attention to the imperative of fire prevention, detection, and mitigation measures. The discourse is framed within the paradigm of design-for-sustainability thinking, underscoring the integration of sustainable practices in enhancing fire resilience. By examining the interplay between various functional and organizational system composition elements, three key aspects are extracted to enhance fire resilience: (1) fire protection design measure improvement, (2) sustainable and fireproof construction facility, and (3) organizational management support. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the complex nature of high-tech electronics plants, and provide actionable insights for enhancing both fire resilience and sustainable practices in these establishments.

Influence of big data adoption on sustainable marketing and operation of SMEs: a hybrid approach of SEM-ANN

PurposeThis research aimed to analyze and prioritize the factors affecting sustainable marketing (SM) and sustainable operation (SO) of manufacturing small and medium-sized enterprises SMEs through big data adoption (BDA).Design/methodology/approachThe technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework was used as a theoretical base and data were gathered from manufacturing SMEs in Malaysia. The 159 questionnaire replies of chief executive officer (CEO)/managers were analyzed using a hybrid approach of structural equation modeling-artificial neural network (SEM-ANN).FindingsThe findings of this study showed that perceived benefits (PB), technological complexity (TC), organization's resources (OR), organization's management support (OMS) and government legislation (GL) are the factors that influence BDA and promote SM and SO. The findings of ANN showed that a perceived benefit is the most important factor, followed by OMS.Practical implicationsThe findings of this study can assist SMEs managers in making strategic decisions and improving sustainable performance and thus contribute to overall economic development.Originality/valueThe manufacturing industry is under immense pressure to integrate sustainable practices for long-term success. BDA can assist industries in aligning industries' operational capabilities. The majority of the current research have mainly emphasized on BDA in corporations. However, the associations between BDA and sustainable performance of manufacturing SMEs have been less explored. To address this issue, this study developed a theoretical model and examined the influence of BDA on SM and SO of manufacturing SMEs. Meanwhile, the hybrid methodological approach can help to uncover both linear and non-linear relationships better.

НАПРЯМИ ЦИФРОВІЗАЦІЇ МАРКЕТИНГУ АГРАРНИХ ПІДПРИЄМСТВ

The article focuses on the relevance of the issues of formation and implementation of the intra-corporate policy of digitalization of marketing of agrarian enterprises. It was established that the aspects of digitization and realization of its potential directly in the segment of agricultural enterprises in Ukraine are still not sufficiently developed.
 Therefore, the purpose of the study is to improve the methodological and applied principles and provisions of identification and substantiation of directions for strengthening the digitalization of marketing of agricultural enterprises. The advantages of the formation and development of digital management systems at domestic enterprises in general, as well as directly in the field of digitalization of their marketing systems and complexes, are emphasized. Prospective directions of digitalization of marketing of agrarian enterprises are determined by the following components: (1) product policy, (2) price policy, (3) policy of promotion and stimulation of product sales, (4) policy of product positioning on the market.
 The problematic aspects of the formation of an environment of digital marketing of agricultural enterprises in Ukraine are reflected. The strategic stages of the policy of development and expansion of the priority directions of digital marketing of agrarian business entities have been determined. The system of structural blocks of the program of digitalization of agricultural enterprise marketing is substantiated, in particular - initial conditions, policy goal, goals and directions of regulation, globalization block, financial-resource and organizational-management support, monitoring and adjustment tools. The toolkit for monitoring the digitalization of marketing of agricultural enterprises has been defined, which involves taking into account the system of indicators in three groups: (1) development of the intra-corporate digital system, (2) digital modernization of business processes, (3) harmonization and convergence of intra-corporate digital systems into the global system of the digital economy of Ukraine and the EU.

How organizational management supports instructional leadership

PurposePrevious studies found that principals must be involved in both instructional leadership and organizational management, yet they did not explain how the former supports the latter. To narrow this gap in the available research-based knowledge, the current study explored the contribution of organizational management to instructional leadership.Design/methodology/approachThis study was qualitative in nature. The study participants were 28 principals of elementary schools in Israel. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Data analysis, based on coding, aimed to cluster the eight organizational management functions according to how each function supports instructional leadership.FindingsThe present study revealed that the eight functions of organizational management support four main aspects of instructional leadership: (1) Developing a positive learning climate; (2) Improving teaching quality; (3) Realizing the school instructional vision; and (4) Enabling instructional leadership.Originality/valueThe findings of this study reinforce the argument that although instructional leadership is the critical component of effective school leadership, it should be supported by other frameworks.

Factors contributing to the sustained implementation of an early childhood obesity prevention intervention: The INFANT Program.

The INFANT Program is an efficacious, group-based program for first-time parents, delivered at three-monthly intervals when INFANT are aged 3-18 months through an existing universal care service in Victoria, Australia. Many lessons have been learnt from its origins as a cluster randomized control trial to its small-scale, community-level implementation. This study aimed to describe factors contributing to its sustained implementation to inform large-scale implementation across Australia. This study used a multi-site qualitative exploratory approach. INFANT facilitators trained between 2013 and 2017 were sent an online survey, with optional telephone interviews. The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) was selected as the underpinning theoretical framework as it offered the opportunity to explore a breadth of possible barriers and enablers across patterns of implementation (never, discontinued, ongoing). All participants were female (n = 31), the majority were Maternal and Child Health Nurses (48%), representing five regional and nine metro local government areas (LGAs), across all patterns of implementation (never implemented n = 4; discontinued implementation n = 5; ongoing implementation n = 5). All consenting participants were interviewed (n = 11) representing four regional and seven metro LGAs, across all patterns of implementation (never implemented n = 3; discontinued implementation n = 4; ongoing implementation n = 4). The main reason for attending INFANT Program training was to become skilled to implement the program. Mapping identified barriers and enablers to the CFIR revealed the inner and outer settings and implementation process to be of greatest influence. Main differences between LGAs with ongoing and discontinued implementation related to funding availability, organizational management support and endorsement, organizational resourcing and capacity, integration into routine practice and establishing role clarity with partner organizations, and planning for sustained implementation from the start. This study provides important insights into the barriers and enablers to the sustained implementation of an evidence-based intervention (the INFANT Program) during small scale community-level implementation. The authors therefore contend that the pre-requisite for scale-up of a population health intervention is not just proof of effectiveness but also proof of sustained implementation at the local/organizational level. Study findings have broad transferability given their similarity to those identified for health promotion interventions implemented globally, in healthcare, education and community settings.

Factors Affecting Implementation of Day of Surgery Admission in King Abdullah Medical City, Makkah

Background: Day of surgery admission, rather than inpatient surgery, is increasingly being considered the norm for all patients undergoing elective surgery, rather than simply an alternative form of treatment for a few. However, it is also important to recognize that the model of provision should be geared to the patient’s needs, since not all patients can be treated on a day-surgery basis. It is necessary to have a system in place for selecting patients carefully, considering surgical, medical (comorbidity) and social criteria. Objective: This study aims to identify the factors affecting implementation of day of surgery admission in hospital. Subjects and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was used to achieve the aim of the study. The population included all the healthcare workers who involved in day of surgery admission process including surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and administrative staffs in King Abdullah Medical City (KAMC). The researcher made a questionnaire for data collection which included five variables that affect the implementation of day of surgery admission procedures. Data was collected from the participants by using online survey questionnaires. Results: The result shows that all the factors have high mean score which indicate the participants positively agree the statements and when proving the hypothesis, the result appear that there's a solid relationship exist between consider factors and implementation of day of surgery admission. Finally, it was found that some dependent variables have positive correlation with others. Conclusion and Recommendations: it was concluded that the proper implementation of day of surgery admission with the organizational management support can contribute to reduce the waiting time of the patient, cancelation of procedures and all healthcare team will be satisfied. This study recommends the health care leaders to develop a strategic plan to implement day of surgery admission process However, further studies are needed to conduct by including patient’s opinions and as multicenter comparative study to find the effectiveness of day of surgery admission process.

Competency framework to integrate lean construction and integrated project delivery on construction megaprojects: towards a future of work global initiatives in multinational engineering organisations

PurposeBuilt environment organisations face global challenges between business units, especially since the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) has profoundly disrupted the construction industry worldwide, including the management of construction megaprojects (CMPs). This research aims to develop a competency framework, for global integrated delivery (GID) transformative initiatives and future of work (FOW) global initiatives, to manage integration between lean construction (LC) practices and integrated project delivery (IPD) on CMPs in contemporary multinational engineering organisations.Design/methodology/approach“Mixed research methods” involves a two-stage quantitative and qualitative research approach. In the context of CMPs, stage one consisted of a qualitative research methodology comprising a literature review to examine competencies, COVID-19 impacts, responses and key drivers (KDs) to integrate LeanIPD&GID; stage one outcomes propose a conceptualisation of LeanIPD&GID, a competency framework and future of work (FOW) global initiatives. Stage two involved an empirical questionnaire survey for a set of 30 KDs arranged into five-factor clusters (FCs), 226 respondents from 23 countries with an extensive cosmopolitan experience; analysis adopted structural equation modelling (SEM), descriptive and inferential statistics, percentage scoring analysis, principal component analysis (PCA) and eigenvalues.FindingsIn the context of CMPs, stage one outcomes delivered a conceptualisation of LeanIPD&GID, a proposed competency framework and FOW global initiatives. Stage two concluded that the most significant KDs are “collaboration in design, construction works and engineering management,” “coordination and planning of construction work,” “senior organisational management support,” “boosting implementation of LC, and integrating project delivery” and “earlier and precise 3D visualisation of designs”. building information modelling (BIM) adoption in the MENA region is higher than LC; the second is still taking its first steps, while IPD has little implementation. LeanBIM is slightly integrated, while LeanIPD integration is almost not present.Originality/valueThe research findings, conceptualised LeanIPD&GID principles, a proposed competency framework and FOW global initiatives, provided future research streams and directions; the study has provided a competency framework and FOW global initiatives for effective practical strategies for enhancing integration of LeanIPD&GID transformative initiatives on CMPs and will allow project key stakeholders to place emphasis on boosting LeanIPD&GID KDs.

Administrative and legal principles of provision of public services in entrepreneurship activities

Introduction. The issue of studying the administrative and legal framework for the provision of public services within certain activities, including the ones in the field of entrepreneurship, is relevant for Ukraine. Conceptual and categorical apparatus, which could be further used in the professional literature, law-making and law-enforcement practice, is still insufficiently developed. The purpose of the paper is to define the content of the concept of administrative legal principles for the provision of public services in entrepreneurship taking into account the latest trends in administrative law, legal practice and changes in the national legislation. The methods used in the study are comparative legal, formal legal, logical and semantic as well as analysis and synthesis. Results. The need to define the concepts that make up the categorical basis for the study of administrative and legal principles of public services in the field of entrepreneurial activity is revealed. The analysis of scholars’ views on understanding the essence of the category of administrative and legal principles is conducted. The practice of applying the term of administrative and legal principles in domestic legislation is generalized. The concept of public services is analyzed and defined. The concept of entrepreneurial activity is formulated. Conclusion. It is stated that entrepreneurship activity is a strategic factor and an internal source of economic development and material well-being of the population of Ukraine under the market conditions. Administrative and legal principles of providing public services in the field of entrepreneurship activity is a set of characteristics of social phenomena and legal relations in the field of providing public services for entrepreneurship, which needs to be regulated by the administrative and legal means and provide categorical, regulatory and organizational-management support.

Factors Influence Compliance to Medication Reconciliation Process in King Abdullah Medical City

Medication reconciliation has been recognized as an important National Patient Safety Goal by the Joint Commission. Studies have shown that hospitals with medication reconciliation Programs led by pharmacists, as part of the interdisciplinary team, may have improved outcomes in the following areas of assessment: the rates of medication errors, adverse events, and readmissions. This study aims to investigate the factors that influence the compliance to the medication reconciliation process. It is a quantitative analytical Cross-Sectional design undertaken at the specialized hospital, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. The study adopted the following independent variables (knowledge and training about medication reconciliation, Medication reconciliation policy, procedures involved in the medication reconciliation process, and organizational support) and the compliance to the medication reconciliation process in KAMC as dependent variables. Data collected from 90 pharmacists by using a self-administered questionnaire. When proving the hypothesis, the result showed that there is a positive correlation between the study variables including knowledge and training, medication reconciliation policy and procedures, and organizational management support with the compliance of medication reconciliation process. This study concluded that hospital pharmacists should be knowledgeable and have adequate training about medication reconciliation process. Proper implementations of policy and procedures with the organizational management support can contribute to improving the medication reconciliation process. However, further studies are needed to include all physicians and nurses to determine overall institutional factors that influence medication reconciliation process improvement.

Maximising engagement and participation of intellectual disability staff in research: Insights from conducting a UK-wide survey.

Aim:This article explores ways of maximising engagement of intellectual disability staff as research participants, research advisers and research implementers.Method:The authors describe and reflect on a three-phased strategy in recruiting front-line staff (n = 690) working for intellectual disability service providers (n = 25) to participate in a UK-wide anonymous online survey about death, dying and bereavement.Results:Important elements in engaging participants were: involving stakeholders at all stages of the research process, which includes: building relationships with participating organisations; enlisting organisational management support at all levels; an attractive and well laid-out collection tool; a well-structured recruitment strategy; time and flexibility; and a varied and targeted dissemination strategy. However, the recruitment method had limitations, in particular around representativeness, bias and generalisability.Conclusions:Staff in intellectual disability services can be enthusiastic and invaluable research participants. Active engagement between researchers, participating organisations and stakeholder groups is key to ensuring involvement of intellectual disability staff with research.

The Role of Management Support on Innovativeness in the Nigerian Entrepreneurial Businesses

The absence of a management supported ambience for innovativeness is a problem affecting required growth in sales volume and income in Nigerian businesses. A significant proportion of companies in the industry are ailing and struggling to survive. This study examined the role of management support on innovativeness in Nigerian Entrepreneurial Businesses. Survey research design was adopted for the study. The population was 5,362 full time employees of selected flour milling companies in Nigeria. A sample size of 372 was selected using stratified sampling and simple random sampling techniques. A validated questionnaire was used for data collection. Cronbach’s Alpha coefficients for the construct ranged from .708 to .847 and the response rate was 81.72%. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (mean, standard deviation, and simple regression analysis). The findings showed that management support has positive effect on innovativeness (F(1,302) =188.671, p<0.01), R =.620, R2 =.385, Adj R2 = .381, and estimated coefficient .620; The study concluded that management support has a significant positive effect on innovativeness in Nigerian Businesses. The study recommended that management should nurture an organizational management support that encourages entrepreneurial behaviour by making organizational design and development a continuous focus.

Food Safety Performance in Food Manufacturing Facilities: The Influence of Management Practices on Food Handler Commitment

The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of management practices on food handler commitment and, ultimately, food safety performance in food manufacturing facilities. Two focus groups, one with six food handlers and the other with six food safety professionals, were used to develop a conceptual model that measured the effect of management practices on food handler commitment and organizational performance. The fitness of the structural model was measured via a survey with 945 respondents from 189 food manufacturing facilities and official food inspectors in the Emirate of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The study found that training, communication, employee involvement, and organizational management support positively and significantly influenced employee commitment, and employee commitment positively and significantly influenced facilities' food safety performance. These results indicate food handler commitment is a critical factor in the relationship between all of the studied management practices and facilities' food safety performance. The study may have implications for food safety inspectors, enforcement officers, training agencies, and food manufacturing managements to consider human aspects in their work.

Comparing the impact of management support on police officers’ perceptions of discretionary power and engagement: Australia, USA and Malta

This paper uses Social Exchange Theory as a lens for comparing the impact of management support upon police perceptions of discretionary power and employee engagement, across three countries. A survey-based, self-report process collected data from 193 police officers in Australia, 588 from the USA, and 249 from Malta. Structural equation modelling was used to analyse the data. The findings suggest a significantly different management support context across the three countries, as well as significantly different perceptions of discretionary power. Across the three countries, police perceived relatively poor satisfaction with organizational management support and only some engagement levels. However, USA police perceived significantly more discretionary power than the other country samples. These findings provide greater clarity about the link between management support, discretionary power and engagement for the police officers. Since employee engagement likely affects policing outcomes, the findings suggest that poor management support of police officers could negatively affect the provided service. Potential strategies to enhance police engagement include (a) training police managers about how to manage so as to promote greater engagement, and (b) modifying police managers’ performance indicators in line with achieving better police engagement.

Expanding Impacts of Technology-Assisted Service Systems Through Generalization: Case Study of the Japanese Service Engineering Research Project

The importance of technologies for services has been remarkably emphasized recently with the terms “digitalization” and “smart service systems.” Technologies, especially information and communications technologies, have been regarded as an important driver of innovating services, and various researchers of services and service systems have investigated the development of technology-assisted service systems and their methods. However, few studies report how to generalize and disseminate developed service systems and technologies for other service systems. This type of study is essential to expand the impact of the study on technology-assisted service systems on the industrial and societal levels. As our research question, we examined the necessary processes and deliverables to develop and disseminate technology-assisted service systems. We analyzed five cases of a service engineering research project in Japan that aimed at improving service industry productivity through disseminating developed technologies. We conducted semistructured interviews with the researchers responsible in each case. As a result, we clarified the generalization process through continuous codevelopment with stakeholders in the same or different service systems. We also specified a set of research outputs: technology, activity guideline, and application process, designated as a technological support model for a service system. The features of these outputs can be emphasized by categorizing them into three types: knowledge-worker support model, organization management support model, and association management support model. These processes and outputs provide a practical guideline for developing and disseminating technology-assisted service systems effectively.

Investigating Association of Benefits and Barriers in Project Portfolio Management to Project Success

Projects are increasingly initiated by organisations across Australia in alignment with the corporate strategies. This paper investigates and analyses the application of PPM in Australia by conducting a questionnaire survey with senior project, program and portfolio managers across Australia. The results suggested improvement in decision making, maximizing resource usage, alignment with business strategy and organisational risk reduction are the most common benefits found when implementing PPM. On the other hand, internal politics and culture, lacking organisational management support, and disagreement on a common project prioritization approach are the main barriers impeding the application of PPM.

Exploring the possibility of a common structural model measuring associations between safety climate factors and safety behaviour in health care and the petroleum sectors

The aim of the present study was to explore the possibility of identifying general safety climate concepts in health care and petroleum sectors, as well as develop and test the possibility of a common cross-industrial structural model. Self-completion questionnaire surveys were administered in two organisations and sectors: (1) a large regional hospital in Norway that offers a wide range of hospital services, and (2) a large petroleum company that produces oil and gas worldwide. In total, 1919 and 1806 questionnaires were returned from the hospital and petroleum organisation, with response rates of 55 percent and 52 percent, respectively. Using a split sample procedure principal factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis revealed six identical cross-industrial measurement concepts in independent samples—five measures of safety climate and one of safety behaviour. The factors’ psychometric properties were explored with satisfactory internal consistency and concept validity. Thus, a common cross-industrial structural model was developed and tested using structural equation modelling (SEM). SEM revealed that a cross-industrial structural model could be identified among health care workers and offshore workers in the North Sea. The most significant contributing variables in the model testing stemmed from organisational management support for safety and supervisor/manager expectations and actions promoting safety. These variables indirectly enhanced safety behaviour (stop working in dangerous situations) through transitions and teamwork across units, and teamwork within units as well as learning, feedback, and improvement. Two new safety climate instruments were validated as part of the study: (1) Short Safety Climate Survey (SSCS) and (2) Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture-short (HSOPSC-short). Based on development of measurements and structural model assessment, this study supports the possibility of a common safety climate structural model across health care and the offshore petroleum industry.

Nurses' perceptions of the barriers to and the facilitators of research utilization in Turkey

The aim of this study was to determine nurses' perceptions of the barriers to and facilitators of research utilization in Turkey. Barriers Scale was utilized in the research, and the population was 631 nurses. According to the research results, the first three important barriers were inadequate authority (63.6%), lack of time (54.0%), and insufficient facilities (52.8%). Nurses have perceived the organizational management support as the most important easing factor in their applications ( n = 156). It is highly recommended that nurses be trained in research methods and evidence-based practice, that research articles be written more clearly, and that Research and Development centers where nurses could get consultation services be established.

Exploring organizational expansion modes and their associated communication system requirements: consolidation and complementation

The expectation of firms following aggressive growth strategies is that firms expanding geographically will acquire extensive economic advantages unavailable to more conservative competitors. Growth-minded firms also believe that by integrating info-communication technology (ICT) within their regional infrastructures, distribution channels, and marketing approaches, they can achieve lower costs or enhanced differentiation within a broad scope of operations. Empirical evidence shows that many organizational expansions have been implemented utilizing two major expansion modes, consolidation and complementation. This research examines the modal properties of these approaches in terms of their configurational characteristics, economic rationales and managerial requirements. Viewed from a top-down perspective the modal properties further suggest the organization's management support system requirements. This study also identifies and explores the corresponding communication system requirements, especially for key dispersion-related communication configurations and systems. The desired practical effect of this research would be an increased awareness of and an incentive for commercial and industrial enterprises to include communication system requirements in their adopted expansion mode deliberations.
