Health Cadres Establishment Through Oral Dental Disease and Drug Use (DAGUSIBU) Education in Srigading Village, Bantul

One of the community empowerment and involvement in improving health status in the community is the formation of health cadres. Health cadres are expected to be health informants in the community so that health information that is developed in the community is valid. This voluntary work aimed to educate health cadres about oral dental diseases and drug use in Srigading Village, Bantul, Yogyakarta. The voluntary work was carried out by providing education regarding oral dental disease and drug use through the method of Dapatkan, Gunakan, Simpan, dan Buang (Get, Use, Store, and Dispose). Pretests and posttests were conducted to evaluate the understanding of health cadres before and after the education. The assessment showed that the average pretest score was 58.8182, while the average posttest score was 91.0909. Based on the paired t-test, the increase was significant because the p-value was <0.05 (p = 0.000). At the end of the voluntary work, educational books and posters were distributed to 21 integrated service post groups from 20 hamlets in Srigading Village. The donated books and educational posters are expected to be a medium for learning and education by health cadres to the surrounding community

Background This paper describes the global trend of population ageing in the modern world and draws demographic parallels between analogical processes taking place in the countries of European Community and in the Russian Federation. The authors disclose a probable etiology and characteristics of the course of oral diseases in elderly and senile patients and describe clinical manifestations of diseases of the oral cavity. Psychologica.complications that can arise in building constructive relationships between elderly patients and health workers are described. Measures relating to the oral health related quality of life in elderly and senile patients are described in detail, and an analysis of the probable causes of deterioration in quality of life in patients of the mentioned group is carried out. The authors give a description of the generally accepted methodology of quality of life research in gerontology and dentistry. Specific international questionnaires to attain these goals are carried out. Objectives To present .comprehensive authorial study related to the research characteristics of quality of life in elderly and senile patients. Methods The methods of logical and statistical analysis were used to research the question of measuring quality of life in elderly and senile patients. Results The trend of population ageing in the Russian Federation is a part of the global phenomenon. The causes of population ageing lie in the economic and social processes occurring in the country. Human health should be considered as a many-sided concept relating to the physiological and psychological well-being and social adaptation of an individual. Manifestations of many oral-dental diseases in elderly and senile patients are caused both by natural processes of ageing and the presence of visceral diseases. There is no question that all the present somatic and dental diseases lead to deterioration in the quality of life of elderly and senile patients and result in their social isolation. Conclusion It is concluded that the assessment of oral health-related quality of life can facilitate a solution to a number of problems of organising dental care for an ageing population. The use of instruments for measuring quality of life can not only conduce to oral health but also improve health care quality and increase levels of well-being of elderly persons.

EVALUATION OF THE DENTIN DESENSITIZING EFFICACY OF PASTE CONTAINING 8% ARGININE AND CALCIUM CARBONATE DURING DENTAL SCALING PROCEDURE

Background: Dentin hypersensitivity (DH) is a short, sharp pain of teeth that can affect quality of life and treatment of oral dental diseases. The objective of this study was to evaluate the dentin desensitizing efficacy after single application of paste containing 8% Arginine and Calcium carbonate (A-C) during dental scaling procedure (DSP). Methods: This single-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted with 64 patients including 328 teeth with DH in which, group A: application of 8% A-C paste immediately before DSP and group B: application of 8% A-C paste immediately after DSP. On each patient, teeth with DH in both sides of jaw were randomized in 2 groups: the treatment was applied by 8% A-C paste, and the control was applied by pumice prophylaxis paste (PPP). DH scores were evaluated5 times: T0 (base-line), T1 (the group A: immediately after application of 8% A-C paste in the treatment and PPP in the control; the group B: similar to the group A but immediately after DSP), T2 (the group A: immediately after DSP; the group B: immediately after application of 8% A-C paste in the treatment and PPP in the control), T3 (1 week later), and T4 (4 weeks later). Results: In group A: the treatment had a reduced DH score immediately after applying the 8% A-C paste from T1 to T4 (the reduced percentage of DH of T1, T2, T3, and T4 were 43.11%, 43.11%, 44.89%, and 44.45% respectively) in comparison with baseline score. The group B: immediately after DSP, the DH score increased in both groups but the treatment had a reduced DH score immediately after applying the 8% A-C paste from T2 to T4 (42.32%, 44.81% and 43.98% respectively) in comparison with the T1. Conclusion: A single application of the 8% A-C paste immediately before or after DSP had an effect on reducing the DH immediately and this effect lasted 4 weeks later. Snots and snuffles: rational approach to chronic feline upper respiratory syndromes.

While the most common cause of chronic upper respiratory disease signs in cats is viral disease, with subsequent, self-perpetuating inflammation, other, more discrete causes need to be ruled out. These include foreign bodies, bacterial or fungal infections, oral-dental diseases and neoplasia. Any factors contributing to alterations in the structure or function of the upper airways, including inflammation of any cause, will compromise normal function and predispose to chronic damage if the cat is unable to resolve the underlying factors. The chronic feline snuffler is a frustrating patient to treat. The longer the course of disease, the more severe the consequences to affected tissues, and the more debilitated the patient becomes. A logical diagnostic plan to differentiate probable etiologies and to rule out non-viral causes results in appropriate therapeutic choices. Even with a viral etiology, therapies to reduce the pathological consequences of infection may modulate and help control the clinical signs. Some novel choices and drug combinations are discussed in this review. Cats of all ages may be affected. Cats with conformational (breed or malformation) characteristics, such as short or convoluted nasal passages or very small nostrils, are predisposed to unresolving inflammation. Fungal disease is more relevant in specific geographic regions, making inclusion of a travel history important in history collection. Older cats are more likely to have neoplasia-induced signs. This review is directed at all veterinarians who see cats with chronic, recurrent upper respiratory disease.

Oral-Dental Disease in Cats: A Feline Practitioner’s Perspective

The impact and relevance of dentistry in a general feline practice is detailed. Hospital policy and protocol are described for client education, preanesthetic evaluation, dental procedures, and recall programs. A discussion of commonly observed feline dental problems is included.
