This study elucidates how the Filipino “Kumpas” translator improves communication between signers and non-signers. Many Hearing people are likely familiar with American Sign Language (ASL), but many are still unaware that the Filipino Deaf have their own unique language called Filipino Sign Language (FSL). In this section, the programmers present a method for bridging the gap between signers and non-signers. Sign to text and speech to sign are the two modes of communication for the “Kumpas” translator. In order to translate using speech, the application would use a speech audio input and based from the words recognized, a 3D character will play a sequence of animations according to the translation. The OpenCV Python library, which is useful for computer vision and image processing tasks, was used by the programmers. MediaPipe has a number of features, including tracking, face recognition, and object detection. The system was tested using an ISO 25010 and based on the evaluation, an overall very satisfactory rating was obtained. Also, findings presented that the system is definitely a useful language translator for Filipinos.
