Two-Loop QCD Corrections to the Higgs Plus Three-parton Amplitudes with Top Mass Correction

We obtain the two-loop QCD corrections to the Higgs plus three-parton amplitudes with dimension-seven operators in Higgs effective field theory. This provides the two-loop S-matrix elements for Higgs plus one-jet production at the LHC with top-mass correction. We apply efficient unitarity plus IBP methods which are described in detail. We also study the color decomposition of the fermion cuts and find a connection between fundamental and adjoint representations which can be used to reduce non-planar to planar unitarity cuts in the Higgs to three-gluon amplitudes. We obtain final results in simple analytic form which exhibits intriguing hidden structures. The principle of maximal transcendentality is found to be satisfied for all results. The lower transcendentality parts also contain universal building blocks and can be written in compact analytic form, suggesting further hidden structures.

Next-to-leading power corrections to V+1 jet production in N -jettiness subtraction

We discuss the subleading power corrections to one-jet production processes in $N$-jettiness subtraction using vector-boson plus jet production as an example. We analytically derive the next-to-leading power leading logarithmic corrections (NLP-LL) through ${\cal O}(\alpha_S)$ in perturbative QCD, and outline the calculation of the next-to-leading logarithmic corrections (NLP-NLL). Our result is differential in the jet transverse momentum and rapidity, and in the vector boson momentum squared and rapidity. We present simple formulae that separate the NLP corrections into universal factors valid for any one-jet cross section and process-dependent matrix-element corrections. We discuss in detail features of the NLP corrections such as the process independence of the leading-logarithmic result that occurs due to the factorization of matrix elements in the subleading soft limit, the occurrence of poles in the non-hemisphere soft function at NLP and the cancellation of potential $\sqrt{\mathcal{T}_1/Q}$ corrections to the $N$-jettiness factorization theorem. We validate our analytic result by comparing them to numerically-fitted coefficients, finding good agreement for both the inclusive and the differential cross sections.

Three-loop master integrals for ladder-box diagrams with one massive leg

The three-loop master integrals for ladder-box diagrams with one massive leg are computed from an eighty-five by eighty-five system of differential equations, solved by means of Magnus exponential. The results of the considered box-type integrals, as well as of the tower of vertex- and bubble-type master integrals associated to subtopologies, are given as a Taylor series expansion in the dimensional regulator parameter epsilon = (4-d)/2. The coefficients of the series are expressed in terms of uniform weight combinations of multiple polylogarithms and transcendental constants up to weight six. The considered integrals enter the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order virtual corrections to scattering processes like the three-jet production mediated by vector boson decay, V* -> jjj, as well as the Higgs plus one-jet production in gluon fusion, pp -> Hj.

Reducing theoretical uncertainties for exclusive Higgs-boson plus one-jet production at the LHC

We resum a class of large Sudakov logarithms affecting Higgs-boson production in the exclusive one-jet bin at the LHC. We extend previous results by calculating the full one-loop soft function for this process, which extends the accuracy of the resummation to include the leading three logarithmic corrections at each order in the QCD coupling constant. We match this result to the next-to-leading order cross section and present a detailed numerical study assuming realistic LHC cuts. Careful attention is paid to the matching procedure, and to the theoretical uncertainties induced by residual scale variation. We find that the matched ${\mathrm{NLL}}^{\ensuremath{'}}+\mathrm{NLO}$ cross section has significantly smaller uncertainties than the fixed-order result, and can be used to alleviate the theoretical errors hindering current Higgs analyses at the LHC.

Consistent simulation of nonresonant diphoton production at hadron collisions with a custom-made parton shower

We have developed a Monte Carlo event generator for non-resonant diphoton ($\gamma\gamma$) production at hadron collisions in the framework of GR@PPA, which consistently includes additional one-jet production. The jet-matching method developed for initial-state jet production has been extended to the final state in order to regularize the final-state QED divergence in the $qg \rightarrow \gamma\gamma + q$ process. A QCD/QED-mixed parton shower (PS) has been developed to complete the matching. The PS has the capability of enforcing hard-photon radiation, and small-$Q^{2}$ photon radiations that are not covered by the PS are supplemented by using a fragmentation function. The generated events can be passed to general-purpose event generators in order to perform the simulations down to the hadron level. Thus, we can simulate the isolation requirements that must be applied in experiments at the hadron level. The simulation results are in reasonable agreement with the predictions from RESBOS and DIPHOX. The simulated hadron-level events can be further fed to detector simulations in order to investigate the detailed performance of experiments.

Constraints on leptophobic gauge bosons with polarized neutrons and protons at RHIC

We explore the sensitivity and the physics interest of the measurement of parity-violating spin asymmetries in one-jet production in the presence of a new leptophobic neutral gauge boson Z', within polarized hadronic collisions at the BNL RHIC. We focus on polarized neutron collisions which could be achieved in a realistic upgrade of the RHIC-Spin program. We show that, in case of a discovery, a compilation of the information coming from both polarized pp and nn collisions should constrain the number of Higgs doublets and the presence or absence of trilinear fermion mass terms in the underlying model of New Physics.

Discovery potential for new physics in view of the RHIC-Spin upgrade

In view of a possible upgrade of the RHIC-Spin program at BNL, concerning both the machine and the detectors, we give some predictions concerning the potentialities of New Physics detection with polarized proton beams. We focus on parity-violating asymmetries in one-jet production due to contact terms or to a new leptophobic neutral gauge boson. We comment on the main uncertainties and we compare with unpolarized searches at Tevatron.

Discovery limits for a new contact interaction at future hadronic colliders with polarized beams

The production of high-transverse energy jets in hadron-hadroncollisions is sensitive to the presence of new contact interactions between quarks. If proton polarization were available, the measurement of some parity violating spin asymmetries in one-jet production at large transverse energy would complement the usual search for deviations from the expected QCD cross section. In the same time, a unique information on the chirality structure of the new interaction could be obtained. In this context, we compare the potentialities of various $pp$ and $p\bar p$ colliders that are planned or have been proposed, with the additional requirement of beam polarization.

Spin asymmetries in one-jet production at RHIC with polarized proton beams: the effects of a hadrophilic Z′

We show that the measurement of some parity violating asymmetry in the production of a large E t jet could reveal the presence of a new hadrophilic Z′ such as the one recently introduced to interpret possible departures from the Standard Model predictions both at LEP and at CDF. Such a measurement could be performed within a few years by the RHIC Spin Collaboration (RSC) using the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) as a polarized proton-proton collider.
