Hierarchical fuzzy comprehensive evaluation of prevention and control level of occupational hazards in coal mines

Objective: To establish an evaluation model for occupational hazard prevention and control levels in coal mines, to explore the combination of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation, to evaluate the overall situation of occupational hazard prevention and control in coal mines. Methods: In November 2021, Collect information of occupational hazards and their prevention and control status in 30 coal mines. AHP model was first constructed for the elements of occupational hazard prevention and control in coal mines. Then, the AHP and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method was applied to comprehensively evaluate and grade the occupational hazard prevention and control in coal mines, using the principles of maximum membership and weighted average. Results: The hierarchical fuzzy comprehensive evaluation results for typical coal mine were basically consistent with its occupational hazard prevention and control situation. The dust prevention and control situation was good, the noise prevention and control situation is average, the occupational health monitoring situation was good, the occupational health management situation was average, and the overall level of occupational hazard prevention and control was good. Conclusion: The hierarchical fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model for occupational hazard prevention and control levels, combined with the principles of maximum membership and weighted average, can objectively evaluate and reflect the overall situation of occupational hazard prevention and control in coal mines.

Analysis of the results of occupational health examination of radiation workers in Shaanxi Province

Objective: To analyze the results of occupational health examinations of radiation workers in Shaanxi Province, and to provide basis and reference for effectively conduct occupational health monitoring. Methods: From April 2016 to January 2022, a questionnaire survey was conducted to collect the basic information on occupational health examinations of qualified radiation workers in Shaanxi Province from 2016 to 2021. Based on the abnormal rate of occupational health among radiation workers, 1018 people were randomly selected using a cluster stratified sampling method to analyze the occupational health examination results of different positions, types of work, gender, length of service, and exposure doses. Results: The chromosomal aberration rates of peripheral blood lymphocytes among radiation workers in Shaanxi Province from 2016 to 2021 were 0.26% (10/3876), 0.77% (27/3512), 0.16% (16/10153), 0.09% (13/14769), 0.10% (13/13399), and 0.12% (20/16671), respectively. The abnormal rates of thyroid ultrasound examination were 32.33% (150/464), 24.46% (649/2653), 55.24% (786/1423), 32.89% (888/2700), 35.69% (1475/4133), and 42.51% (1993/4688), respectively. There was a statistically significant difference in the abnormal rates among different years (P<0.05). The abnormal rate of renal function examination in male radiation workers was higher than that in females (P<0.05). Compared with non medical users, the abnormal rates of renal function, thyroid function, and blood routine examination in medical radiation workers were higher (P<0.05), and the abnormal rates of renal function, thyroid function, and blood routine examination in medical applications were higher than those in radiation diagnosis, nuclear medicine, and radiation therapy (P<0.05). The abnormal rates of electrocardiogram, chest X-ray, blood pressure, thyroid function, and blood routine increased with the length of service (P<0.05). The abnormal rates of blood pressure, liver function, kidney function, thyroid function, and blood routine examination increased with the exposure dose (P<0.05) . Conclusion: The occupational health status of radiation workers is not optimistic. Occupational health monitoring should be strengthened, especially interventional radiation diagnosis occupational health examination, as well as changes in the indicators of sensitive organs such as eye lens and thyroid, so as to ensure the health of radiation workers.

Research on radiation sensitive biomarkers and status of radiation safety literacy under low dose irradiation: Radiation biomarkers and radiation safety culture

ObjectiveTo analyze the health status and radiation sensitivity index of radiation workers in provincial, county and township hospitals. To explore the methods of evaluation indicators, evaluation standards and scoring principles of radiation safety culture in medical institutions. MethodsIn 2021, the radiation safety status of all 172 medical institutions in a city was investigated by using retrospective investigation, current situation investigation and laboratory study. The occupational health monitoring data of all 1547 radiation workers were statistically analyzed, and the radiation safety status and health indicators of radiation workers in provincial, county and township level hospitals were compared. ResultsThe results of occupational health monitoring of radiation workers showed that there were statistically significant differences in ALT, lens opacity (P < 0.05) and lymphocyte micronucleus (P < 0.05) between the two groups, and there were statistically significant differences in the influence of radiation service on the detection rate of lens opacity (P < 0.05). The survey results of radiation safety culture construction in medical institutions show that there are differences in the level of radiation safety culture in hospitals of different grades. The radiation safety culture construction of provincial and municipal public hospitals is obviously better than that of county hospitals, especially township hospitals. ConclusionInterventional radiologists and nuclear medicine workers engaged in iodine therapy were exposed to higher radiation agents, and radiation workers in township health centers were not aware of radiation protection, and there was a certain occupational risk. At the same time, the evaluation index of radiation safety literacy in medical institutions was determined, Disease prevention and control personnel stationed in hospitals is an effective measure to strengthen the construction of radiation safety culture in hospitals.

Artificial intelligence in the work process. A reflection on the proposed European Union regulations on artificial intelligence from an occupational health and safety perspective

Artificial intelligence (AI) finds increasingly growing applications in the working environment. Its importance has been recognised by the European Parliament and the European Commission, as reflected in the legislation prepared at the European Union level. As the use of AI creates new risks hitherto unknown from an Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) perspective, the question is whether the proposed EU regulations address these risks. The starting point for further consideration should be an analysis of the proposed changes to EU law in the context of the general principles of labour law. In addition to proposals to amend EU law on artificial intelligence, this article examines current occupational safety and health legislation. Issues related to occupational safety and health monitoring of employers using artificial intelligence were also the subject of the study. The social sciences' perception of human labour is not insignificant in assessing the new relationship at the employer-AI-employee level. The proposed model for regulating AI by the EU legislator is insufficient. First and foremost, there is no clear indication of the employer's obligations towards employees concerning occupational health and safety. Certainly, the essence of the EU law should be to establish the role of the employer in the process and of the Labour Protection Authorities, on the assumption that AI is only a working tool and not a subject of the law. Authorities should work together with employers to achieve the regulation objectives. Consideration should be given to introducing a responsive method of regulation in EU law, whereby the employer's application of employee health protection standards would be reviewed by the Authority to ensure that the objectives of the regulation are met. Depending on achieving a specific outcome or failing to meet the set targets, the Authority could intervene by applying appropriate punitive, incentive or reward mechanisms to the employer. Such a system of action, supported by providing adequate information to employers about the new risks associated with using AI, makes it possible to mobilise employers to take specific measures to protect employees' mental and physical health.

Current status and research progress of occupational health monitoring in welding fume operations

Welding operations are widely present in the manufacturing production process, involving a large number of occupational groups, and are the key occupations where work injuries and occupational diseases occur in China. For different welding processes and welding materials, the content and focus of occupational health monitoring are different. At present, the item of occupational health examination in welding operation is in poor consistency with the on-site exposure of occupational hazard factors, and it is mainly concentrated in the stage of disease development, which can not reflect the early health damage caused by welding dust exposure in time. The emergence of biomarkers of welding dust can make up for this defect. Therefore, it is of great significance to describe the current situation of occupational health monitoring of welding dust and summarize the research progress of related biomarkers for the early prevention of diseases caused by welding dust and the practice of occupational health monitoring.

Assessment of environmental pollution by lead and its impact on the child's body (using the example of the Callao region in Peru)

In the presented work, based on the existing information in abstract sources, as well as freely available statistical material collected by the Department of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Occupational Health Monitoring of the Callao region in Peru, the actual problem of lead pollution on a global scale is outlined, and ways to solve it are shown on the example of Peru, a country that is one of the leaders extraction of this metal. The analysis of the degree of pollution and the impact of lead on the environment, the assessment of the levels of lead in the blood of children living in the Callao district and the associated negative impact of lead pollution on the child's body was carried out. The article shows that in children, the earliest manifestations of lead exposure occur even at a blood level of only 10.0 micrograms/dl, while in Callao, lead levels in children's bodies are higher than this value. Levels from 50 to 60 mg/dl of lead are recorded here, while the maximum value in children under the age of 12 according to the World Health Organization (WHO) should not exceed 10 mg/dl. It is shown that a high proportion of children with elevated levels of lead in the blood is associated with the presence of industrial centers specializing in the melting of metals and the disposal of lead. The direction of winds, mainly from south to north and from southwest to northeast, could explain the higher proportion of children with elevated lead levels among residents of areas located in the north and northeast. As a result of data analysis, it was revealed that the control value less than 10 micrograms/dl, used as a threshold, is insufficient to preserve the health of the population. In addition, the article discusses possible ways to reduce pollution: through the implementation of programs for monitoring and assessing the environmental quality of the environment by companies engaged in the extraction of lead minerals. It is also necessary to comply with national environmental quality standards for lead content. Guidelines for various types of economic activities leading to the reduction of environmental pollution are proposed.

Continuous physiological signal measurement over 24-hour periods to assess the impact of work-related stress and workplace violence

Work-related stress has long been recognized as an essential factor affecting employees' health and wellbeing. Repeated exposure to acute occupational stressors puts workers at high risk for depression, obesity, hypertension, and early death. Assessment of the effects of acute stress on workers' wellbeing usually relies on subjective self-reports, questionnaires, or measuring biometric and biochemical markers in long-cycle time intervals. This study aimed to develop and validate the use of a multiparameter wearable armband for continuous non-invasive monitoring of physiological states. Two worker populations were monitored 24 h/day: six loggers for one day and six ICU nurses working 12-hr shifts for one week. Stress responses in nurses were highly correlated with changes in heart rate variability (HRV) and pulse transit time (PTT). A rise in the low-to high-frequency (LF/LH) ratio in HRV was also coincident with stress responses. HRV on workdays decreased compared to non-work days, and PTT also exhibited a persistent decrease reflecting increased blood pressure. Compared to loggers, nurses were involved in high-intensity work activities 45% more often but were less active on non-work days. The wearable technology was well accepted by all worker participants and yielded high signal quality, critical factors for long-term non-invasive occupational health monitoring.

Wearable Neck Surface Accelerometers for Occupational Vocal Health Monitoring: Instrument and Analysis Validation Study.

BackgroundNeck surface accelerometer (NSA) wearable devices have been developed for voice and upper airway health monitoring. As opposed to acoustic sounds, NSA senses mechanical vibrations propagated from the vocal tract to neck skin, which are indicative of a person’s voice and airway conditions. NSA signals do not carry identifiable speech information and a speaker’s privacy is thus protected, which is important and necessary for continuous wearable monitoring. Our device was already tested for its durable endurance and signal processing algorithms in controlled laboratory conditions.ObjectiveThis study aims to further evaluate both instrument and analysis validity in a group of occupational vocal users, namely, voice actors, who use their voices extensively at work in an ecologically valid setting.MethodsA total of 16 professional voice actors (age range 21-50 years; 11 females and 5 males) participated in this study. All participants were mounted with an NSA on their sternal notches during the voice acting and voice assessment sessions. The voice acting session was 4-hour long, directed by a voice director in a professional sound studio. Voice assessment sessions were conducted before, during, and 48 hours after the acting session. The assessment included phonation tasks of passage reading, sustained vowels, maximum vowel phonation, and pitch glides. Clinical acoustic metrics (eg, fundamental frequency, cepstral measures) and a vocal dose measure (ie, accumulated distance dose from acting) were computed from NSA signals. A commonly used online questionnaire (Self-Administered Voice Rating questionnaire) was also implemented to track participants’ perception of vocal fatigue.ResultsThe NSA wearables stayed in place for all participants despite active body movements during the acting. The ensued body noise did not interfere with the NSA signal quality. All planned acoustic metrics were successfully derived from NSA signals and their numerical values were comparable with literature data. For a 4-hour long voice acting, the averaged distance dose was about 8354 m with no gender differences. Participants perceived vocal fatigue as early as 2 hours after the start of voice acting, with recovery 24-48 hours after the acting session. Among all acoustic metrics across phonation tasks, cepstral peak prominence and spectral tilt from the passage reading most closely mirrored trends in perceived fatigue.ConclusionsThe ecological validity of an in-house NSA wearable was vetted in a workplace setting. One key application of this wearable is to prompt occupational voice users when their vocal safety limits are reached for duly protection. Signal processing algorithms can thus be further developed for near real-time estimation of clinically relevant metrics, such as accumulated distance dose, cepstral peak prominence, and spectral tilt. This functionality will enable continuous self-awareness of vocal behavior and protection of vocal safety in occupational voice users.

Study of Low-Dose Radiation Workers Ionizing Radiation Sensitivity Index and Radiation Dose-Effect Relationship.

In the present study, we analyzed radiation injuries to Chinese workers exposed to low-dose radiation. We discuss the relationships between dose and injury. This study randomly selected 976 radiation workers who underwent occupational health monitoring. The radiation workers were divided into 5 different types of work: radiation diagnosis, radiation therapy, interventional therapy, nuclear medicine, and industrial inspection. This research was approved by the Bioethics Committee at the Gansu Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The average annual cumulative dose to interventional radiation workers was the highest, i.e., 0.86 mSv. The detection rate of lens opacity was 37%, but 99.70% of lens opacities occurred in the peripheral cortex. Posterior subcapsular opacification was detected less than 1.00% of the time. The rate of chromosomal aberrations was highest for radiological workers with more than 20 years of service. Annual cumulative dose reached 2.04 mSv, and the monitoring dose for 3 months was as high as 1.62 mSv. Dicentric chromosomes were also detected. The manual packaging and drug delivery nuclear medicine staffs totaled 14 individuals. 131 131 was detected in the thyroids of 4 workers (28.57%). The detection rate of thyroid 131 I was higher in the hand-packed and administered group than in the automatic administration group. Radiation workers exposed to low doses of radiation can sustain injuries. Interventional radiology workers receive the highest doses and sustain the most significant effects. This study suggests that chromosome aberration analysis is an important index in occupational health monitoring of radiological workers. Monitoring of internal radiation exposure cannot be ignored for nuclear medicine staff.

Analysis on the detection of suspected occupational diseases and occupational contraindications for benzene workers in Tianjin

Objective: To investigate the detection of suspected occupational diseases and occupational contraindications for benzene workers in Tianjin. Methods: In June 2020, the occupational health inspection data of 16113 benzene workers in 514 enterprises with benzene hazards in 16 municipal districts in Tianjin from January to December 2019 were included in the analysis. Enterprise information included the employer's region, economic type, industry classification and enterprise scale. Occupational health inspection data for benzene workers during their on-the-job period included routine inspection indicators and benzene special inspection indicators. Multivariate unconditional logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between personal general information, occupational history, enterprise information and suspected benzene poisoning and occupational contraindications of benzene workers. Results: There were 16073 benzene workers in the normal group and 24 in the suspected benzene poisoning group. The detection rate of suspected benzene poisoning in females was higher than that in males (χ(2)=8.26, P=0.004) . There was no significant difference in the detection rates of suspected benzene poisoning among different dimensions such as age, length of service, occupational health inspection institution location, employer location, industry classification, economic type, and enterprise scale (P>0.05) . There were 16073 benzene workers in the normal group and 16 in the benzene contraindication group. The detection rate of benzene contraindications for workers in suburban areas where occupational health inspection institutions were located was higher than that in urban areas (χ(2)=9.71, P=0.002) , and there was no significant difference in the detection rates of contraindications for benzene in other dimensions (P>0.05) . Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that female benzene workers were more likely to detect suspected benzene poisoning (OR=3.53, 95%CI: 1.57-7.94, P=0.002) ; benzene workers who received physical examination in suburban occupational health inspection institutions (OR=5.81, 95%CI: 1.94-17.42, P=0.002) , the employer's area was in the suburbs (OR=9.68, 95%CI: 1.23-76.07, P=0.031) , and female workers (OR=3.07, 95%CI: 1.13-8.37, P=0.028) , it was easier to detect occupational contraindications. Conclusion: Female benzene workers with employers located in the suburbs have a higher risk of detecting occupational contraindications, and women are more likely to detect suspected benzene poisoning. The management of benzene operations in the production environment of enterprises in the suburbs of Tianjin and the occupational health monitoring of female workers should be strengthened.

Investigation on influencing factors of blood indexes of interventional radiology workers

Objective: To analyze the influencing factors of blood indicators indexes of interventional radiology workers, and provide a theoretical basis for radiological occupational health monitoring, radiation protection monitoring and risk assessment. Methods: In March 2020, a total of 500 interventional radiology workers (interventional group) and 200 non-interventional radiology workers (control group) who underwent an occupational health examination in Liaoning Center for Disease Control and Prevention from 2018 to 2019 were selected as the subjects. The general information, occupation related information, blood routine, fasting blood glucose and thyroid stimulating hormone test results of the subjects were collected. The differences in the levels and abnormal detection rates of blood indexes between the two groups were compared. And the influencing factors of blood indexes of the intervention riodiology workers were analyzed. Results: The lymphocyte count of interventional group[2.10 (1.70, 2.50) ×10(9)/L] was lower than that of control group[2.20 (1.80, 2.60) ×10(9)/L], the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05) . The white blood cell count and lymphocyte count of interventional workers in the service age≤13 years were higher than those of service age≥28 years group, and fasting blood glucose was lower than those of service age ≥28 years group (P<0.05) . The detection rate of abnormal fasting blood glucose of interventional radiology workers in the service age ≤13 years group was lower than that of the service age 14-27 years and service age ≥28 years (P<0.05) . The lymphocyte count and platelet count of interventional radiology workers in annual effective dose<0.5 mSv group was higher than that of annual effective dose≥1 mSv group (P<0.05) . The results of multi-factor linear regression analysis showed that service age, annual effective dose and female gender were the influencing factors of lymphocyte count of interventional radiology workers (b=-0.008, -0.110, -0.167, P<0.05) . Conclusion: Long-term low-dose radiation exposure had certain influence on the lymphocyte count of interventional radiology workers. Service age, annual effective dose and gender are the influencing factors of lymphocyte count in interventional radiology workers. It should be reinforced to the radiological protection monitoring and risk assessment on interventional radiology workers.

Development of a Personal Ultrasound Exposimeter for Occupational Health Monitoring.

Prolonged exposure to airborne ultrasound in a workplace can have a detrimental influence on a worker’s well-being. Given the ever-increasing use of ultrasonic industrial equipment, it is of vital importance—and may also be regulated by law—to monitor ultrasound exposure during a normal workday as part of workplace risk assessment. However, the devices currently utilized exhibit limitations with regard to both their operational frequency and their portability (wearability). In this paper, the first prototype of a high-frequency and ultrasound personal exposimeter is presented in the light of the latest national and international standards governing high-frequency and ultrasonic noise measurement in the field of occupational health monitoring. The prototype was tested in the laboratory environment in order to assess its sound level detection capabilities in both the audible and ultrasonic frequency ranges. Several common industrial scenarios—including an ultrasonic welding machine, an ultrasonic cleaning bath, and a compressed air gun—were simulated in a laboratory environment. For each simulated set-up, a corresponding high-frequency or ultrasonic signal was fed through a specially prepared generation chain. Each experimental scenario was initially surveyed with an ultrasound level meter previously tested up to 100 kHz. This was followed by a measurement with the prototype. For this study, the simulated sound signals varied between 10 kHz and 40 kHz on the frequency scale and between 60 dB and 90 dB in amplitude. The portability of the prototype, which may be required to be worn throughout an entire workday (e.g., 8 h), was also considered. All the experiments were performed on a customized ultrasound measurement set-up within a free-field environment located at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig, Germany. Results obtained suggest a good agreement between the measurements performed with both devices in the louder areas of the sound fields produced. Because the overall measurement uncertainty is highly dependent on the specificity of the individual measurement set-up and measurement procedure, an uncertainty budget estimated for the prototype considers electro-acoustical contributions only.

Combining Indoor Positioning Using Wi-Fi Round Trip Time with Dust Measurement in the Field of Occupational Health.

Monitoring of personal exposure to hazardous substances has garnered increasing attention over the past few years. However, no straightforward and exact indoor positioning technique has been available until the recent discovery of Wi-Fi round trip time (Wi-Fi RTT). In this study, we investigated the possibility of using a combination of Wi-Fi RTT for indoor positioning and a wearable particle monitor (WPM) to observe dust concentration during walking in a simulated factory. Ultrasonic humidifiers were used to spray sodium chloride solution inside the factory. The measurements were recorded three times on different routes (Experiments A, B, and C). The error percentages, i.e., measurements that were outside the expected measurement area, were 7% (49 s/700 s) in Experiment A, 2.3% (15 s/660 s) in Experiment B, and 7.8% (50 s/645 s) in Experiment C. The dust measurements were also recorded without any obstruction. A heat map was created based on the results from both measured values. Wi-Fi RTT proved useful for computing the indoor position with high accuracy, suggesting the applicability of the proposed methodology for occupational health monitoring.

Analysis on the status of occupational health of medical radiation workers in China in 2019

Objective: To grasp the occupational health monitoring of radiation workers in medical institutions across the country, and to discover weak links in the prevention and treatment of occupational radiation diseases. Methods: In 2020 January, according to the monitoring data of the "National Radiation Health Information Platform" (Occupational Radiation Disease and Occupational Health Monitoring Subsystem and Occupational Radiation Disease Reporting Subsystem) , the national occupational health monitoring data from January 1 to December 31, 2019, including the number of radiation workers in medical institutions, occupational health examinations, personal dose monitoring and occupational radiation disease diagnosis, were descriptive analyzed. Results: There were a total of 394436 radiation workers in medical institutions across the country. The number of radiation workers in various provinces was quite different, with a median of 10206, which was positively correlated with the number of permanent residents in each province (r=0.947) . There were 376 personal dose monitoring institutions nationwide, and the personal dose monitoring rate of radiation workers in medical institutions was 96.61% (381045/394436) . There were 419 occupational health inspection institutions for radiation workers across the country, and 269 (64.20%) used software to print physical examination forms. A total of 334455 radiation workers in medical institutions had been subjected to occupational health examinations. The rate of occupational health examinations for radiation workers in medical institutions was 84.79% (334455/394436) . The abnormal rate of chromosomal aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes of radiation workers in medical institutions was 0.33% (776/233571) , the detection rate of posterior posterior subcapsular turbidity was 0.63% (2093/334455) , and the abnormality rate of thyroid color ultrasound was 28.49% (14946/52464) . In 2019, a total of 16 cases of occupational radiation diseases were reported. Conclusion: The personal dose monitoring rate and occupational health examination rate of medical radiation workers nationwide are relatively high, but the quality of lymphocyte chromosome aberration analysis, eye lens examination and thyroid color photograph examination needs to be further improved.

Investigation on the effect of occupational lead exposure on bone mineral density of workers

Objective: To understand the occupational health status of a lead-acid battery enterprise in Jiangsu Province, to observe the results of blood lead and bone mineral density (BMD) of the workers exposed to occupational lead, and to explore the effect of occupational lead exposure on BMD, so as to provide basis for the prevention and treatment of occupational lead poisoning and osteoporosis. Methods: An occupational health survey was conducted in a lead-acid battery enterprise in Jiangsu Province in January 2019. Basic information and occupational health examination results of 402 persons exposed to occupational lead were collected, and BMD was measured. Spearman rank correlation test was used to analyze the relationship between blood lead and BMD, and logistic regression analysis was used to analyze the influencing factors of BMD. Results: The blood lead level M (P25, P75) of 402 occupational lead exposure workers was 220.5 (118.0, 307.0) μg/L, 46 workers (11.4%) had blood lead value ≥400 μg/L, and 5 workers (1.2%) ≥600 μg/L. 124 workers (30.8%) had abnormal BMD. The concentrations of lead dust and lead smoke in the workplace were <0.004-0.027 and <0.021-0.045 mg/m3, respectively. The positions exceeding the standard point were mainly concentrated in the casting and welding group (44.4%, 4/9) of lead smoke positions. There was a statistically significant difference in the overall distribution of blood lead levels among lead exposure workers with different BMD levels, and there was a positive correlation between blood lead and BMD (P<0.01) . The results of univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in the distribution of abnormal BMD among workers exposed to different genders, positions and blood lead levels (P<0.01) . The results of multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of abnormal BMD in male workers was 5.069 times of that in female worker (95%CI: 2.906-8.840, P<0.01) . Conclusion: Occupational lead exposure personnel have a high blood lead level and a high abnormal BMD rate. Exposure to lead working environment is an influencing factor for the abnormal BMD of workers, so enterprise managers should pay attention to health protection, occupational health monitoring and supervision of working environment of front-line workers.

Analysis on the health status of radiation workers in an international airport

Objective: To understand the occupational health status of radiation workers at an international airport, and to provide basis and reference for relevant competent authorities to conduct scientific and effective occupational health monitoring. Methods: From July to August 2019, 246 radiation workers at an international airport were selected as the research subjects (observation group) , and their occupational health examination data were collected. At the same time, 210 radiation workers from a medical institution were selected as the control group. The occupational health examination results of the two groups were compared. And the differences in occupational health examination results of airport radiation workers among difference service age were analyzed. Results: Compared with the control group, the detection rates of ocular lens opacity (1.63%, 4/246) and abnormal blood glucose (4.07%, 10/246) in the observation group were lower, the detection rates of abnormal skin (11.79%, 29/246) , abnormal B-ultrasound of liver, gallbladder and spleen (75.61%, 186/246) and abnormal chest X-ray (5.28%, 13/246) were higher (P<0.05) . There were significant differences in the abnormal detection rates of skin, blood glucose, B-ultrasound of liver, gallbladder and spleen among airport radiation workers with different service age (P<0.05) . Abnormal chromosome of peripheral blood lymphocytes, abnormal chest X-ray were mainly distributed in the service age of ≥20 years. The abnormal rate of B-ultrasound of liver, gallbladder and spleen was higher in different working age groups. Conclusion: Long term low-dose irradiation will have a certain impact on the occupational health of airport radiation workers. The occupational health monitoring of relevant personnel should be strengthened to protect their occupational health.

Health survey and analysis of workers exposed to noise and dust in a candy manufacturing enterprise

Objective: To investigate the occupational hazards and the health status of workers in a candy manufacturing enterprise, to study the nonspecific effects of noise on cardiovascular and digestive systems, and to further explore the combined effect of noise and dust on workers' health. Methods: In 2019, all 564 employees of a candy manufacturing enterprise in Guangzhou were selected as the research objects. According to the exposure to occupational hazards, the research objects were divided into control group (101 persons) , noise exposure group (272 persons) and noise dust combined exposure group (191 persons) . According to the requirements of GBZ 188-2014 "Technical Specification for Occupational Health Monitoring", the employees were given occupational health examination. Blood pressure, electrocardiogram, liver function, binaural pure tone audiometry and other indicators were analyzed by gender, age and length of service. Results: The abnormal hearing rate of the workers in the control group, noise exposure group, and noise dust combined exposure group were 12.9% (13/101) , 24.6% (67/272) , and 36.1% (69/191) , respectively, showing a significant increasing trend (P<0.05) . Compared with the control group, the abnormal rates of electrocardiogram, abnormal blood pressure and fatty liver detection rate of the workers in the noise exposure group and the noise dust combined exposure group were significantly increased (P<0.017) . The abnormal hearing rate and fatty liver detection rate of male employees showed an increasing trend among the three groups (P<0.05) . The abnormal hearing and blood pressure rates of 40 to 49-year-old employees showed an increasing trend (P<0.05) . The rates of abnormal hearing of employees with≥50 years old and working experience <10 and 10-19 years showed an increasing trend (P<0.05) . The abnormal rate of electrocardiogram and the fatty liver detection rate of employees with more than 20 years of service had an increasing trend (P<0.05) . Conclusion: Noise is the main occupational hazard factor in candy manufacturing enterprises, which may be related to cardiovascular system and digestive system damage. At the same time, dust may strengthen the hearing loss caused by noise.

Federated transfer learning enabled smart work packaging for preserving personal image information of construction worker

The rapidly expanding number of IoT-based camera devices makes smart work packaging (SWP) easier to access massive construction workers' personal image information for occupational health and safety (OHS) status monitoring. SWP can then transmit these personal data to the cloud for training the machine learning models and offer safety alerts or health insights. However, there are two urgently important challenges. Firstly, the machine learning model needs to aggregate the SWPs' image data from each construction worker, which may pose a risk to private data leakage without strict privacy and security agreement. In addition, the machine learning models trained on all SWPs' image data may compromise the personalization of image-based OHS status monitoring for each construction worker. To address the above issues, this study proposes a FedSWP framework, the federated transfer learning-enabled SWP for protecting the personal image information of construction workers in OHS management. FedSWP executes the gradient parameters aggregation through federated learning for the image data in each SWP and builds relatively personalized models by transfer learning. Crane operators' facial fatigue monitoring experiments are conducted and have evaluated that FedSWP can achieve accurate and personalized safety alerts and healthcare. This study paves the way for the generalization and extension of FedSWP in many construction OHS applications.

Analysis of occupational health status of radiation workers in Guangdong Province

Objective: To discuss the effect of low-dose ionizing radiation on the health of radiation workers, and provide a basis for occupational health risk assessment of radiation workers. Methods: In January 2020, 3165 radiation workers who performed radiation occupational health examinations in Guangzhou Prevention and Treatment Hospital for Occupational Disease from January 2017 to December 2019 were selected as the research objects, and compared and analyzed the health status of radiation workers with different examination types (pre-job, in-job and off-job) , types of work, gender, and length of service. Results: The off-job occupational radiological health examination was rare at 2.3% (74/3165) . The abnormal detection rate of chest radiographs, renal function, thyroid function, and blood routine of the radiation workers in-job group was higher than that of the pre-job group (P<0.05) . No statistical difference was found in the abnormal detection rate of the examination items during the in-job group and the off-job group (P>0.05) . The blood routine abnormality detection rate of medical application group and industrial application group were higher than those of nuclear fuel group (P<0.05) . The abnormal detection rate of blood pressure and renal function of male radiation workers was higher than that of females, while the abnormal detection rate of blood routine of females was higher than that of males (P<0.05) . The abnormal detection rate of electrocardiogram, chest radiograph, blood pressure, renal function, thyroid function, and blood routine of radiation workers increased with increasing working age (P<0.05) . Conclusion: Occupational health status of radiation workers is not optimistic. Radiation occupational health monitoring should be strengthened, special attention should be paid to off-job radiation occupational health examination, focusing on the sensitive indicators of sensitive personnel, improving radiation protection conditions, and effectively protecting the occupational health of radiation workers.
