ATUAÇÃO DA ENFERMAGEM NA PREVENÇÃO E TRATAMENTO DE LESÕES POR PRESSÃO

The aim of this study is to understand the role of nursing in the prevention and treatment of pressure injuries. It is known that pressure injuries are not a specific category of injury, but can refer to damage that occurs due to problems related to blood pressure, such as hypertension. Thus, the following problem stands out: What is the role of the nursing team in the treatment of pressure injuries? Based on this question, it can be seen that nursing care for patients is essential to ensure their survival and prevent complications. Nursing care protocols can vary depending on the severity and extent of the treatment, as well as the individual needs of each patient. This is an exploratory and descriptive integrative review study. Data was collected by searching for original scientific articles in the Virtual Health Library, PubMed, Scopus and Scientific Electronic Library Online databases. Content analysis and thematic categorization were used to evaluate and present the data. It should be noted that there is a shortage of international and national studies; many are descriptive and few make effective contributions. Therefore, it is necessary to include reflections on health care in the face of physical-emotional weaknesses, contextualized in their disparities and social injustices.

Nursing care to patients who have the home as the preferred place of death: a scoping review

BackgroundThe existing literature on nursing care for patients who choose home as their preferred place of death is scattered and lacks a coherent overview. This scoping review aimed to explore and categorize the available evidence on how nurses provide care for patients preferring to die at home.MethodsStudies that included nurses and were focused on nursing care for patients who choose the home as their preferred place of death were included in the review. The scoping review considered studies with quantitative, qualitative, or mixed method designs; systematic reviews; and meta-analyses. No time restrictions were added. Key information sources were Medline, CINAHL (EBSCO), Scopus (Elsevier) and Google Scholar. Systematic reviews were searched for in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Unpublished studies and grey literature were searched for in ProQuest Dissertations and Theses. The reference list of the studies included was searched.ResultsA total of 13 studies were deemed eligible for inclusion in the review, of which (n = 11) were qualitative and (n = 2) were both qualitative and quantitative. The studies were published between 2008 and 2023 and were conducted in the United Kingdom (n = 5), Norway (n = 4), Australia, Sweden, Canada and Japan. The studies included in this review highlighted issues of competence, resource limitations, flexibility as a coping mechanism, as well as collaboration and family caregivers.ConclusionsThis review identified significant challenges in delivering nursing care for patients who prefer to die at home, including staff shortages, resource limitations, and educational deficiencies. Despite these barriers, nurses showed a strong commitment to patient care, highlighting the need for increased support and collaboration with family caregivers to improve home-based end-of-life care.Implications for researchTo improve care for patients who wish to die at home, it is crucial to address staff shortages and enhance nurse training to close knowledge gaps and ensure consistent, high-quality care. Healthcare systems must also allocate adequate resources to ensure that nurses have the necessary tools to deliver safe and effective care in home settings. Strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration will further enhance patient outcomes by supporting both nurses and family caregivers in end-of-life care.

Development of a risk predication model for critical care needs in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage: a retrospective cohort.

It is very important to provide the correct nursing care for patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), but the level of critical care needs in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage is not clear. The purpose of this study is to establish a risk model based on the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of ICH patients, to help identify the critical care needs of ICH patients. The clinical data of ICH patients from January 2018 to September 2023 were analyzed retrospectively. The full cohort was used to derive the clinical prediction model and the model was internally validated with bootstrapping. Discrimination and calibration were assessed using the area under curve (AUC) and the Hosmer-Lemeshow tests, respectively. 611 patients with ICH were included for model development. 61.21% (374/611) ICH patients had received critical care interventions. The influencing factors included in the model were Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, intraventricular hemorrhage, past blood pressure control, systolic blood pressure on admission and bleeding volume. The model's goodness-of-fit was evaluated, which yielded a high area under the curve (AUC) value of 0.943, indicating a good fit. For the purpose of model validation, a cohort of 260 patients with ICH was utilized. The model demonstrated a Youden's index of 0.750, with a sensitivity of 90.56% and a specificity of 78.22%. GCS, systolic blood pressure, intraventricular hemorrhage, bleeding volume and past blood pressure control are the main factors affecting the critical care needs of patients with ICH. This study has deduced a clinical predictive model with good discrimination and calibration to provide scoring criteria for clinical health care providers to accurately evaluate and identify the critical care needs of ICH patients, to improve the rational integration and allocation of medical resources.

Stuart Stress Adaptation and Nola Pender's Model on Mental Nursing Care of Patients Schizophrenia: Case Study

To describe the application of the Stuart Stress Adaptation and Nola Pender Models in mental nursing care for a patient with schizophrenia and risk of violent behavior. This research method used case studies. The sample is one patient with schizophrenia. Data collection is done through direct observation, interviews, and patient medical records. The results showed that the client showed a major nursing problem in the form of risk of violent behavior. Predisposing factors included passive childhood experiences and socio-cultural issues, while precipitation included feeling disrespected by the husband's family. Nursing interventions provided to the patient included logotherapy, forgiveness therapy, and psychoeducation to the family. Family psychoeducation forms a supportive system in the client's recovery process. The results of this study indicate that there is a reduction in symptoms of violent behavior in schizophrenia patients. The importance of integrating the Stuart Stress Adaptation and Nola Pender Model in the psychiatric nursing care of patients with paranoid schizophrenia.

Postoperative challenges addressed through nursing care of patients receiving lower extremity tumor prosthesis

BackgroundPatients with primary Bone Sarcoma and Giant Cell Tumors in the lower extremities often require major surgery involving tumor prostheses. The postoperative course for this patient group can be complex and influenced by various factors and challenges that demand careful nursing care. This study aims to identify challenges related to the nursing care of individuals with primary bone tumors following surgery for tumor prostheses in the lower extremities.MethodsA retrospective cohort study of 15 patients treated at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark, between November 5. 2016, and April 1. 2020 was conducted by medical record review, focusing on challenges related to postoperative nursing care. All patients with the surgery code “Bone Excision” were identified within the surgery booking system and screened for eligibility.ResultsPatients experienced postoperative challenges such as severe pain, prolonged time to mobilization (mean: 4 days), and defecation (mean: 5 days). The mean length of stay at the Rigshospitalet was 13 days. Furthermore, eleven patients (73%) reported disrupted sleep and nausea.ConclusionPatients undergoing tumor prosthesis surgery in the lower extremities face considerable postoperative challenges that contribute to a prolonged hospital stay. These challenges, including severe pain, delayed mobilization, and gastrointestinal issues, significantly impact recovery. The findings highlight the urgent need for targeted nursing interventions to address these issues effectively. Enhanced pain management protocols, early mobilization strategies, and comprehensive postoperative care plans are essential to improve patient outcomes and reduce the length of hospital stays. Addressing these challenges through dedicated nursing care is crucial for optimizing the recovery process for patients receiving lower extremity tumor prostheses.

Non-invasive remote ischemic preconditioning for patients with heart failure undergoing cardiac catheterization: a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of six non-invasive remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) interventions during the nursing care of patients with heart failure (HF) prior to cardiac catheterization.MethodsA comprehensive search of nine Chinese and English online databases was conducted from the date of their inception to June 2023 to identify randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating RIPC in patients with HF prior to cardiac catheterization. Two independent investigators screened the articles, extracted data, and assessed their quality. The risk of bias was evaluated using the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool, and a network meta-analysis was conducted using R software.ResultsFour trials involving 511 patients with a low risk of bias were included in the analysis. Six non-invasive RIPC interventions were identified, all demonstrating effectiveness in reducing the incidence of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI). Among these, Intervention F (applying up to 50 mmHg above the resting systolic pressure for 5 min to the dominant leg or upper limb, repeated three times with an 18-minute interval) was deemed optimal, although the timing of the procedure was not specified. Intervention D (applying up to 200 mmHg pressure to the upper limb for 5 min, repeated four times with 5-minute intervals, within 45 min prior to cardiac catheterization, ) was considered suboptimal.ConclusionAlthough Intervention D was recommended as the preferred option, none of the four trials examined its impact on the cardiac function of patients with HF. Large-scale, multi-center RCTs are required, with outcome indicators including cardiac function and the occurrence of CI-AKI, to better understand the therapeutic effects of RIPC on HF and reduce the incidence of CI-AKI. This will provide a more robust foundation for clinical practice.

Mental Health Nursing Care for Mrs. R with the Main Issue of Risk of Violent Behavior Due to Paranoid Schizophrenia in the Brotojoyo Ward, Dr. Amino Gondohutomo Psychiatric Hospital

Background: Paranoid schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by severe psychopathological symptoms, including delusions and hallucinations, which often lead to a risk of violent behavior. Purpose: This case study aims to provide nursing care for patients with paranoid schizophrenia at RSJD dr. Amino Gondohutomo, Central Java. The case discussed involves Mrs. R, who experiences a risk of violent behavior as a consequence of paranoid schizophrenia. Methods: The method used in this discussion is a case study with a mental health nursing care approach, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Results: The results of the nursing care show that appropriate interventions, such as physical and verbal anger control exercises, as well as spiritual approaches, can reduce the intensity of violent behavior in the patient. Family support and patient compliance in undergoing pharmacological therapy also play a significant role in the recovery process. Conclusion: In conclusion, comprehensive and collaborative nursing care can improve the patient's psychological condition and reduce the risk of violent behavior.

Asuhan Keperawatan Pada Nn. S dengan Post Operasi Hernioraphy : Hernia Inguinalis Lateralis Dextra di Ruang Mawar 2 RSUD dr. Soeselo Kabupaten Tegal

Inguinal hernia is a condition where an organ protrudes into a cavity through a thin or weak part of the wall. The small intestine is usually the organ that enters the cavity, causing the protrusion. In 2018, hernia ranked 8th in Indonesia with a total of 18,145 cases or around 1.05%. The number of hernia cases in Central Java is estimated to be over 500, or approximately 1.01% of cases. If an inguinal hernia is not treated promptly, it will continue to grow and exert significant pressure on the surrounding tissues. A common consequence of untreated hernia is that it will enlarge and interfere with the patient's daily activities. One of the complications of hernia is swelling around the lump. One of the treatments for hernia is surgery. The writer is expected to provide optimal nursing care for patient. S, who has experienced a right lateral inguinal hernia post- operatively following herniorraphy in Mawar 2 ward of dr. Soeselo Regional Hospital, Tegal Regency.

NURSING CARE FOR STOMA PATIENTS

Nurses are an important part of the multidisciplinary team that treats patients with colostomy, helping to get proper care and avoid developing peristomal complications. The purpose of the article is to examine nursing care for stoma patients. In May and June of 2023, a self-structured survey was used to gather the data. After permission, interviews were conducted with twelve nurses who provided stomatized patient care in the Xhaferr Kongoli Regional Hospital's Surgery Department. The survey contained questions about the level of their skills and experience working with these patients. Statistical analysis was performed through the analysis of the data collected. Seventy -five percent of the respondents were female and fifteen percent male, with an average age of 42.4 years (S. D = 6.4) and working experience with patients with approximately 10 years (S. d = 5.8). Based on their responses, eighty -three percent of the nurses who were interviewed knew the proper procedures for managing colostomy patients. A planned ostomy care plan was followed by fifty -nine percent of them. Sixty -six percent of the nurses were able to timely identify colostomy complications and intervene without the need to remove the stoma from the patient. Regarding the training courses for the nursing care of patients with ostomy, only seven had developed several training courses on the subject. Providing adequate care for these persons requires a specialized and advanced qualification. To provide care for patients with stoma and to avoid problems, nurses must continue and update their education and training.

The Effectiveness of Media Disc Triage Assessment on Clinical Reasoning Skills of Australasian Triage Scale (ATS) in Nursing Students

Australasian Triage Scale (ATS) is a tool used by emergency department nurses to assess a patient's health status and prioritise services based on the severity of the patient's condition. Clinical Reasoning skills are cognitive processes in the form of theoretical applications and clinical abilities of a nurse in evaluating, diagnosing, and providing nursing care for patients based on information and condition. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using learning tools by using media Disc Triage Assessment to improve clinical reasoning skills using ATS triage. Method: The research method used was quasi-experimental without control group design. A total of 193 nursing diploma students who passed the Emergency Nursing course were selected using purposive sampling. Therefore, the sample is 35 students. Data analysis was performed using Wilcoxon test. Result: The results were significant improvements across five domains of Nurses Clinical Reasoning Skills (NCRS): Assessment, Diagnosis, Intervention, Implementation, and Evaluation, all with p-values < 0.05. Conclusions: This has a significant positive effect on improving students' clinical reasoning skills in determining triage ATS. This shows can be effective in improving the ability of students to determine triage levels and make informed clinical decisions.

Nursing's Role in Psychosocial Health Management After a Stroke Event: A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association.

Stroke can have profound psychosocial health implications. These constructs are often overlooked and undertreated yet can be as devastating as the physical, functional, and cognitive consequences after stroke. This scientific statement aims to evaluate 5 important aspects of psychosocial health (depression, stress, anxiety, fatigue, and quality of life) after a stroke to provide a framework for related nursing care across the poststroke continuum. A narrative review of the literature published from 2018 to 2023 was conducted with databases such as PubMed/MEDLINE, ClinicalTrials.gov, PsychInfo/EBSCOHost, PsychArticles, CINHAL, and the Cochrane Library. Findings reveal a gap in evidence-based nursing interventions for addressing poststroke psychosocial needs. Critical strategies for shaping therapeutic nursing care include enhanced screening with validated tools; educating stroke survivors, families, and staff on symptom recognition, prevention, and treatment; and ensuring appropriate pharmacological management and access to psychological and psychosocial interventions, including referrals to social services and other essential support systems. Care should be comprehensive and interdisciplinary. Nurse-led research can benefit from more inclusive inclusion, including individuals with recurrent strokes and preexisting psychosocial conditions, focusing on the impact of structural racism and care disparities and expanding evidence-based nursing interventions. Although there is limited high-level evidence on the nursing care for patients with suboptimal psychosocial health after stroke, nurses have a crucial role in addressing these needs. Enhanced screening, assessment, supportive services, and education are vital to ensure that patients receive the necessary treatment and care.

Effectiveness of a Community-Based Ostomy Nursing Technique to Enhance the Delivery of Patient Care and Quality of Life

ABSTRACT This study aimed to develop and validate a community-based ostomy care training program for nursing staff, with the goal of enhancing their ostomy nursing competencies and improving patient satisfaction. Between March 2021 and October 2021, 20 registered nurses and 50 patients with enterostomy surgery who took part in the promotion of a new nursing technique in five community health service centers in the Wuxing District, Huzhou City, were enrolled in this study (forming the intervention group). In addition, 15 registered nurses and 40 patients with enterostomy surgery from four community health service centers with similar economic and health conditions in the same area were randomly selected as the control group. All community health service centers were independent institutions. The indexes before and after the promotion of the technique were compared, and the effectiveness of the training was evaluated by observing the improvement in nursing skills and changes in patient quality of life after the training. The “quality-of-life scale” was used to analyze the quality of life of patients who had undergone colostomy surgery. The new approach to ostomy care delivered in a community setting was found to improve staff knowledge and skill in ostomy care (p < 0.001), improve the quality-of-life scores of patients and reduce patient travel time and medical expenses. The promotion of ostomy nursing techniques in community health service centers has several benefits. It improves the ostomy nursing skill levels of community medical staff. This reduces the occurrence of ostomy complications. Additionally, it establishes an effective connection between tertiary hospitals and community health service centers. This connection is conducive to better nursing care for patients who have undergone ostomy surgery. The hospital – community – family nursing model can improve self-management abilities and reduce the incidence of complications of enterostomies.

Exploration of Nursing Care for Individuals With Bipolar Disorder in a Manic Episode: A Qualitative Study.

Bipolar disorder is a mental illness that is chronic and has frequent relapses. The purpose of the research was to study the nursing care of patients with bipolar disorder in the mania phase. A qualitative study was employed in this study. The sample consisted of 10 nurses working in psychiatric clinics and data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis was applied for analysing the data. Of the10 participants, 70% were female and 30% were male. The mean age was 48.7 years. All participants were registered nurses and most of them held a Master of Science degree. Their work experience ranged from 10 to 30 years. Three main themes emerged when analysing the data obtained from the interviews with the nurses, those themes were a) Echoes of Vigilance: Navigating the journey, b) Amidst the Tempest: Attending to the Patients' Complex Needs, and c) Restoring Balance: The Nurturing Hands of Bipolar Nursing Care, each of which could be divided into several sub-themes. Nursing care plays an important role in symptom improvement and disease control by providing patient support, managing pharmacotherapy, preventing suicidality, and educating patients about the disease and self-management strategies.

Identifying Risk Factors of Patients with Ulcerative Colitis

Background׃ Ulcerative colitis a lifelong inflammatory illness is marked by persistent inflammation of the mucosal surface that begins in the rectum and spreads toward the influence of a portion or the entire colon, the disease has different periods from severity or exacerbation to remission. Objective: The aim of this study was to explore risk factors of patients with Ulcerative Colitis. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted using a purposive sample of 105 patients diagnosed with ulcerative colitis attending to specialized hospital for gastroenterology and hepatology at AL-Najaf City. Study extend period from September 1,2023 to June 1, 2024. This study used self-administrated questionnaires adopted from the previous studies consist of two-part demographic and clinical forms items. Data collected were analyzed using SPSS version 25.0 Results׃ The findings of the current study involved that the highest percentage of the patients are those at young ages, female patients, graduated from college, married, live in urban, unemployed, and financially secured. According to the participants’ clinical data, the results showed that the highest percentage of the patients are those with some factors that may have direct influence on disease prognosis. For example, duration of the disease, family history of ulcerative colitis, chronic disease, with sleeping patterns as well as medication adherence and others. Conclusion and Recommendation׃ Ulcerative colitis (UC) disease commonly found in individuals within the age group (18 – 36) years old. The study recommended that nurses need to be more aware in performing nursing care for patients within age group (18 - 36) years old in terms of assessing clinical features of ulcerative colitis. Nurses who recognize the risk factors of ulcerative colitis may intervene and manage patient’s condition effectively. More researches are needed to address specific risk factors and find solution to avoid it if possible.

Exploring presence practices: a study of unit managers in a selected Provincial Hospital in Free State Province

BackgroundNursing presence depends on an individual’s belief system, truths, sensory experience, professional skills, and active listening. Thus, one may assume that presence occurs when nurses care for patients in a kind and compassionate way. This study aimed to explore and describe presence practices amongst unit managers in a selected provincial hospital in Free State Province.MethodsA qualitative research approach with an exploratory descriptive contextual research design was employed in this study. A purposive nonprobability sampling technique was utilised to select participants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using the six steps of thematic qualitative data analysis. The study’s trustworthiness was ensured through ascertaining credibility, dependability, confirmability, transferability, and authenticity. Approval to conduct the study was obtained from the North-West University Health Research Ethics Committee (NWU-HREC), DoH in the Free State Province, and the CEO (the gatekeeper) of the selected hospital.ResultsFour themes were generated, namely, presence practices amongst unit managers in a selected provincial hospital in Free State, the impact of presence practices on hospital dynamics in a selected provincial hospital in Free State, unit managers’ practices of relational care and human connectedness in the unit, and the perceptions of unit managers on barriers to presence practices in a selected provincial hospital in Free State. Each of these themes presents categories and sub-categories. Unit managers actively foster supportive work cultures, effective management, human connectedness and relational care, and effective communication to yield team cohesion and positive impacts on patient care. Unit managers also display resilience and highlight the need for ongoing support from colleagues and top management.ConclusionUnit managers exhibit diverse presence practices which emphasise their commitment through visibility and accessibility despite staff shortages and resource constraints.

Nursing care for patients with Alzheimer in Primary Care

Introduction: Alzheimer's is a significant challenge for healthcare systems, due to the increasing global aging population, which requires a comprehensive and patient-centered approach. Objective: The research has the general objective of analyzing nursing care for patients with Alzheimer's in primary care, and the specific objectives of contextualizing Alzheimer's disease and its characteristics; describe the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer's Disease; present the importance of the role of nursing professionals and what interventions are carried out. Methodology: This study is a systematic and integrative literature review, the search was carried out virtually from September 2023 to April 2014, in the databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), PUBMED (National Library of Medicine), Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and BDENF. Results: The 15 articles selected for results and discussion addressed the contextualization and characteristics of Alzheimer's disease, described the pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment and concluded by integrating nursing into primary care, in addition to realizing the importance of patient-family monitoring. nursing. Conclusion: During primary care, nursing collaboration is crucial to providing holistic, personalized care to individuals and families affected by this debilitating condition. Recognizing the importance of early diagnosis, education and continuous monitoring, it is clear that nurses play a central role in the comprehensive approach to Alzheimer's, standing out as agents of change and support amidst the growing challenges faced by this increasingly growing population. vulnerable.

NURSING CARE FOR PATIENTS DIAGNOSED WITH SYSTEMIC ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION:

Aging can bring about several diseases, including systemic arterial hypertension (SAH), which is why the present work has the general objective of demonstrating nursing care for patients diagnosed with systemic arterial hypertension. In relation to the specific objectives, it is: Identify the profile of the patient who presents systemic arterial hypertension; verify which activities are provided by nursing care with the aim of controlling hypertension; Analyze which means of care and prevention should be adopted to obtain a better quality of life in hypertensive patients. To this end, a literature review will be carried out, which is a review of the research of other authors on the aforementioned topic. Only from there will it be possible to catalog the intended results and obtain a more critical look at the relationship between SAH and aging.

Study on the Application Effect of Flexible Nursing Care in Patients with Postpartum Urinary Retention and its Effect on Lactation

Objective: To study the application effect of flexible nursing in patients with postpartum urinary retention and its effect on lactation. Methods: A total of 200 cases of postpartum urinary retention patients admitted between January 2021 and January 2022 were selected and randomly grouped into two groups, a control group (conventional nursing) and an observation group (flexible nursing), of 100 cases each. The time of onset of lactation, the lactation volume score, urinary indicators, the amount of post-partum hemorrhage, and the quality of life score of the two groups were compared. Results: The observation group’s lactation initiation time (21.41 ± 1.52) h and lactation volume score (2.11 ± 0.52) were better than that of the control group (P &lt; 0.05). The observation group’s first urination time (2.11 ± 0.51) min was lower than the control group, while the urinary retention completely relieved time (33.12 ± 8.61) h, and first urinary volume (262.17 ± 52.41) mL was higher than that of the control group (P &lt; 0.05). The amount of postpartum hemorrhage in the observation group (151.21 ± 22.12) mL was less than that in the control group (P &lt; 0.05). The scores of somatic functioning (86.25 ± 2.20), psychological functioning (91.56 ± 1.45), social functioning (89.25 ± 2.45), and material life (89.75 ± 1.45) of the observation group were higher than those of the control group after nursing (P &lt; 0.05). Conclusion: Flexible nursing care in patients with postpartum urinary retention exhibited significant nursing effects and lactation function was effectively improved.

Nursing Process for a Patient with Infertility Using King's Goal Attainment Model: A Case Study

Introduction: Infertility, defined as a woman's inability to conceive and carry a pregnancy, is a significant health concern requiring careful attention and treatment. This study aims to describe the nursing process for a patient with infertility using King's goal attainment model. Case Presentation: The case involves a patient with infertility who has undergone six unsuccessful in vitro fertilization (IVF) attempts and declined surrogate uterus transplantation. Following each IVF attempt, the patient experienced renal complications, resulting in three hospitalizations. Data were collected through observations, interviews with the patient and her family, and paraclinical tests and documents. The nursing process was customized according to the patient's preferences. Conclusions: The results of the study indicated that the patient was able to interact with nurses but did not adhere to health-promoting behaviors and treatments. The analysis led to eight nursing diagnoses and 25 care goals, with the patient managing to act according to her prioritized goals through the nursing process utilizing King's goal attainment model. These findings underscore the importance of a systematic and structured approach, such as King's goal attainment model, in providing effective nursing care for patients with infertility.

Self-reported cultural competence among Czech and Slovakian nurses: A comparative correlation study.

This study aimed to compare the level of cultural competence among nurses working in clinical practice in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Demographic changes have greatly affected the health sector in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. By identifying the level of nurses' cultural competence, many of the complications encountered in caring for patients from different cultures can be avoided. However, few studies have explored the cultural competence of nurses in clinical practice in these countries. This study was cross-sectional, descriptive, and comparative. It followed the STROBE checklist and used the Cultural Competence Assessment Tool questionnaire to collect data. Descriptive and inferential statistical tests were utilized for data analysis, using SASD 1.5.8 and IBM SPSS Statistics version 28.0.0. The sample comprised 424 nurses, with 202 from the Czech Republic and 222 from Slovakia, primarily female. Most nurses in both countries have not received cultural diversity training. Nevertheless, nurses in both countries indicate the necessity of conducting a cultural impact assessment of patients' health. Cultural diversity training significantly increases the level of cultural competence in nurses. Lower cultural competence scores can negatively impact nursing care for patients from different cultures, leading to additional cultural challenges. The findings highlight the need for enhanced cultural competence among nurses. Nurses need to learn and utilize cultural information to help maximize healthcare for patients from different cultures. By providing nurses with cultural knowledge and skills, they will be able to deliver more effective and culturally competent care to patients from varied cultural backgrounds.
