Marketing the School? How Local Context Shapes School Marketing Practices

ABSTRACTThis paper reports the findings of a study that analyzed the marketing activities of a number of vocational schools in a municipality where these organizations were allowed to compete for students. The research employed a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive design. The data was collected through interviews with school leaders, regional education authorities and civil society stakeholders, as well as an analysis of school promotional and informational materials. The study shows that marketing played a minor role in school leaders’ management activities and that these leaders addressed marketing in a mostly unsystematic, informal and intuitive way. We explain this in terms of the specific nature of the local context in which the schools operated, namely, the levels of structural and behavioral competition in the vocational school system and the way the market is regulated by public authorities.

BASIC CHARACTERISTICS OF STUDENTS IN THE SYSTEM OF SCHOOL EDUCATION ON NATIONAL LEVEL AND BY MAIN REGIONS AND CITIES IN BULGARIA

The main goal of the current publication is to present the specific characteristics of students in the system of school education. The methodological framework through which the goal is achieved consists of four steps: first – the total number of schools and their number by types (general, vocational and special) is identified; second - the number of students and their structure in basic and high general schools is given; third - the number of vocational schools – total and by types, as well as the students enrolled in them; fourth – languages learnt in basic and high schools in Bulgaria; also, the number of students graduating from general and vocational schools on national level and by main cities and regions. The conclusion from the study is that identifying the number and characteristics of students enrolled in the school education is a very important part of the Human resource sustainable capacity evaluation on national level and by cities and regions. The HR sustainable capacity is evaluated from the point of the number of graduating students and their technical and language skills. This analysis is also important to the universities in Bulgaria and abroad because it helps evaluating the number of applying students in short, middle and long-term period.

INTEGRASI ANGGOTA TIM KERJA SMK TERAKREDITASI A DAN C DALAM MEMENUHI STANDAR NASIONAL PENDIDIKAN

Competition in gaining public trust is an important factor that must be considered by all available resources in each vocational school. The statement is based on the 2015 Central Bureau of Statistics data which shows that the number of Vocational Schools throughout Indonesia has shown 12,421. This study aims to collect data on information among members of the Vocational Team in meeting national education standards. Furthermore, the data is used to analyze the integration process of work team members in accredited C and vocational high school vocational high school A. The approach used in this study is an inductive approach where the results of research are generalized to more general events. The results of the analysis obtained the results of Sig. (2-tailed) A1 of 0.004 <0.05, A2 of 0.003 <0.05 and A3 of 0.001 <0.05, so according to the decision making in the independent t-test, there were differences between Integration of members of the Vocational Work Team is accredited A and accredited C. Based on the results of data processing, it can be concluded that the integration process of the work team members in C-accredited Vocational Schools is not maximal. Formation of environmental safety culture of the future specialists in building construction through project-based education

The article substantiates the need of the formation and development of the environmental safety culture for the future professionals of the construction industry for their understanding of the environmental impacts made during their production activities. It highlights the problem that most industries have a negative impact on the environment, including building construction, where workers are affected by different types of hazards (radiation, chemical, physical, biological and social ones). It is indicated that teachers of specialized subjects should involve an environmental component in their own educational activities using project-based learning, which aims at solving professional issues and helps motivate students for their learning activities and independent work in the pursuit of knowledge. In addition, the author proves that an essential part of certain decisions and actions that are taken in order to solve the problems of environmental safety is embodied in the “green” construction. The study identifies the relevant conditions affecting the success of project-based learning. They are as follows: the desire and interest in implementing project activities shown by pupils, students and teachers; successful experience of implementing project-based learning in a number of vocational schools; well-formed personal skills of vocational students (design, research, communication, presentation and reflection), which are important for project-based learning, etc. Their experimental evaluation in vocational schools for building construction is conducted. It is proposed to introduce a comprehensive system of project-based learning and its scientific and methodological support in vocational schools. This can be realized through the development of training cycles, game activities, distressed and situational exercises.

Pedagogical Support of Gifted Students from Carpathian Mountain Areas by Means of Folk Art Crafts

This paper, presented at the Conference Plenary the possibilities of pedagogical supportof gifted students from vocational schools, living in the mountainous areas of the Carpathians.Education of talented and gifted students requires pedagogical support. The specific conditions, inwhich Carpathian students live, require the development of pedagogical support of their abilities.New approaches to teaching science, which led to the selection of topics of this article aredescribed. Gifted personalities differ from their peers by same criterias. The social aspect of theproblem remains in the shadow: not to be ashamed of your talent and not to compare it withcliches. And goals of educators and psychologists have to be slightly different as is common.Widespread Carpathian crafts include: embroidery, artistic textiles producing, carpet manufacture,carving, pottery, metalworking, fabric painting, knitting, lace, artistic weaving, artistic working ofleather, stones, bones and horns. Nowadays, some detachment of mountainous regions hassignificantly reduced due to new means of communication, including the Internet. The possibilitiesof colleges in mountainous regions still cannot reach the level of the colleges in capital. InCarpathian and Prykrpattya regions there is a number of vocational schools of art direction.During the execution of creative work in class industrial training necessary for students to complywith the rules of relationships form and decoration in various ways: decorative motif obeys thefunctional form, enriching it artistic and creative solutions, utilitarian function obeys the decorativemotif Products, the form of the product can be extremely decorative, artistic and creative productsolutions focused on practical value and decorative value of the product. Pedagogical support ofgifted students from art colleges in the Carpathian region has extremely wide range ofopportunities. The problem of finding and nurturing talents is important for everyone who maytake a little thought about the prospect of human development. The practicability of folk art crafts,as a means of developing skills and creativity of students, use is substantiated.
