UPDATING the JAMA list of magazines that carry no advertisements for cigarettes or other tobacco products is a daunting task. Hundreds of new periodicals debut each year even as hundreds of others disappear. Yet the Medical News & Perspectives staff perseveres, trying to make it easier for physicians to fill their reception rooms with reading material whose commercial content is not hazardous to their patients' health.
