Objective: The study was to determine the physical activity (PA) levels of adults socially isolated at home due to the coronavirus disease-2019 pandemic and to search the effects of the video-based exercise program (VBEP). Material and Methods: Healthy individuals (n=128; 90F, 38M) aged 40-60 years have participated through online questionnaire software in social media. Participants were randomly divided into as study (n=65) and control (n=63). Their PA level, quality of life (QoL), emotional state, sleep quality, and functional status were evaluated by International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), Beck Depression and Anxiety Inventory (BDI) (BAI), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and timed up-go test, respectively. Specially prepared 30-minute exercise videos (breathing, warm-up, aerobics, strengthening-cooldown exercises) were to the study group according to their PA levels (low, medium, high) determined by IPAQ, they were asked to perform these exercises daily for 6 weeks. No exercise program was given for the control group. Results: Groups were similar in terms of sociodemographic measures except for education level (p>0.05). In the study group all parameters and the control group only in the BDI, BAI, and NHP emotional reactions subscale scores (p<0.05) were significant. In group comparison, a significant difference was found in favor of the study group in IPAQ, BAI, PSQI, and NHP scores (except social isolation subscale score) (p<0.05). Conclusion: During social isolation, we found that VBEP is effective in improving the level of PA, QoL, sleep quality, emotional and functional status of the individuals. Therefore, we consider it effective in terms of preventive health. Also, VBEP can be used as an alternative method in the adult population.

The effect of vitamin D and exercise on balance and fall risk in postmenopausal women: A randomised controlled study.

To evaluate the effects of vitamin D and exercise on balance, fall risk and quality of life (QoL) in postmenopausal women. In this prospective, randomised, controlled, single-blind study postmenopausal women aged 50-70years were included. Participants with <25nmol/L 25(OH) vitamin D were randomised to three groups: group-I (vitamin D replacement) (n=21), group-II (core and balance exercises) (n=18), and group-III (vitamin D replacement plus core and balance exercises) (n=20). The participants with >75nmol/L 25(OH) vitamin D (group-IV) (n=40) were designated as control group and received the core and balance exercises. The participants were evaluated before and after 8weeks with Berg balance test and Biodex balance system (postural stability and fall risk tests) for balance and Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) for QoL. Group IV had better baseline BBT, NHP pain, NHP emotional reactions, NHP social isolation subdomain and total score. After treatment, all groups showed significant improvement in balance (except group I, mediolateral stability index) and QoL (except group II). There was no significant difference between groups (I, II and III) after intervention. Vitamin D replacement therapy has positive effects on balance and QoL. Core strengthening and balance exercises are essential for better balance and fall prevention in postmenopausal women. Any superior effect of vitamin D or exercise on each other was not determined.

Effectiveness of balance training with kinesthetic ability trainer (KAT 2000) in patients with peripheral neuropathic pain: a randomised controlled study

Objectives: The aim of this study isto determine the effectiveness of balance training with Kinesthetic Ability Trainer (KAT 2000) in patients with peripheral neuropathic pain related balance disorder. Methods: Sixty patients were included into this controlled prospective study and randomized into either balance exercises group (Group 1) or KAT 2000 exercises group (Group 2). Balance exercises were given to all patients. Also, KAT 2000 balance exercises were given all patients in Group 2 (n = 30). All patients received 45-min individualized training session for three times a week for 4 weeks. Douleur Neuropathique 4 (DN4) questionnaire for neuropathic pain; visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain severity; KAT 2000 for static and dynamic balance; Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) for Quality of Life (QoL) was used. Dynamic balance and mobility also was assessed using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and Time Up and Go (TUG) test. Patients were evaluated at baseline and the end of the 4-week exercise program. Results: At the end of the treatment; VAS, BBS, KAT 2000, TUG, NHP, physical activity, NHP pain, NHP social isolation and NHP emotional reactions scores improved significantly in both groups (p &amp;lt; 0.05) except NHP sleep and NHP energy level scores in balance exercises group (p &amp;gt; 0.05). Statistical differences in VAS pain on movement, global assessment of patient, global assessment of doctor, NHP energy level scores were found between the groups (p &amp;lt; 0.05); but there were no statistical difference in VAS at rest, VAS at night, BBS, KAT 2000, TUG, NHP physical activity, NHP pain, NHP sleep, NHP social isolation and NHP emotional reactions scores between the groups (p &amp;gt; 0.05). Conclusion: When combined with the KAT 2000 device, positive effects of balance-coordination exercises on pain on movement and energy level are more evident in patients with peripheral neuropathic pain.

Validity and Reliability of the Quality of Life in Epilepsy Inventory (QOLIE-31) for Turkey.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate reliability and validity of the 31-item Quality of Life in Epilepsy Inventory (QOLIE-31) in Turkish epileptic patients. This study was performed methodologically. To standardize the inventory, using a standard "forward-backward" translation and cultural adaptation procedure the English version of the QOLIE-31 was translated to Turkish. Language equivalence of the scale was provided. The opinions of experts were considered regarding the content validity of the scale. Reliability of the scale was determined with the test-retest reliability, item-total correlation and internal consistency analysis. For the construct validity, QOLIE-31 was compared with Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) scale and pre validity was determined. One hundred and forty-eight epileptic patients (62 females, 86 males), with a mean age of 32.5 (SD: 10.71) years were enrolled in the study. Content Validity Index of instrument was .85. Alpha reliability was .91. Item-total correlations were between .46 and .74 (p=.001). The mean score for the quality of life of epileptic patients was found to be moderate level (56.4; SD: 17.3). The mean score of Seizure Worry subscale was the lowest (48.9, SD: 29.82), while social function subscale (60.1, SD: 20.12) was found to be highest. As expected, correlations between QOLIE-31 and NHP subscales were fairly strong, particularly between those subscales with close or interdependent content. Thus, Emotional Well-Being correlated with NHP Emotional Reactions, Social Isolation and Pain; Social Function with NHP Social Isolation and Physical Mobility; Seizure Worry with NHP Social Isolation and Emotional Reactions; and Cognitive Function with NHP Energy, Emotional Reactions and Pain. The Turkish version of the QOLIE-31 questionnaire has good structural characteristics, is a reliable and valid instrument and can be used for measuring the effect of epilepsy on the quality of life.

Inspiratory muscle training in pulmonary arterial hypertension.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on functional capacity, respiratory muscle strength, pulmonary function, quality of life, and fatigue and dyspnea perception in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Twenty-nine clinically stable PAH patients were included in this study. These patients were randomly assigned to a 6-week IMT program (14 patients) or to a sham IMT protocol (15 patients). Before and after the treatment, pulmonary function, respiratory muscle strength, functional capacity, dyspnea and fatigue perception, and quality of life were evaluated. There were significant increases in maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressure, forced expiratory volume in 1 second (% predicted) and 6-minute walk distance in the IMT group compared with the control group (P < .05). There were significant decreases in the Fatigue Severity Scale score, Modified Medical Research Council dyspnea scores, and Nottingham Health Profile emotional reactions subscale in the IMT group compared with the control group (P < .05). Inspiratory muscle training promotes significant improvements in respiratory muscle strength and functional capacity, thus resulting in a reduction of dyspnea during activities of daily living and less fatigue in PAH patients. Inspiratory muscle training is a clinically practical treatment for PAH without any complications.

Translation and validation of the Turkish version of the Ankylosing Spondylitis Quality of Life (ASQOL) questionnaire

The Ankylosing Spondylitis Quality of Life (ASQoL) questionnaire is a disease-specific measure of needs-based quality of life developed in the UK and the Netherlands. This study describes translation, validation, and reliability of the scale into Turkish population. The ASQoL was translated into Turkish using the dual-panel process. Content validity was assessed via cognitive debriefing interviews with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients. Patients with AS according to modified New York criteria were recruited into the study from 12 hospitals of all part of Turkey. Psychometric and scaling properties were assessed via a two administration survey involving the ASQoL, the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP), Bath AS Functional Index (BASFI), and Bath AS Disease Activity Index (BASDAI). Classical psychometrics assessed reliability, convergent validity (correlation of ASQoL with NHP, BASFI, and BASDAI) and discriminative validity (correlation of ASQoL with perceived AS-severity and general health). Cognitive debriefing showed the new Turkish ASQoL to be clear, relevant, and comprehensive. Completed survey questionnaires were received from 277 AS patients (80% Male, mean age 42.2/SD 11.6, mean AS duration 9.4 years/SD 9.4). Test-retest reliability was excellent (0.96), indicating low random measurement error for the scale. Correlations of ASQoL with NHP sections were low to moderate (NHP Sleep 0.34; NHP Emotional Reactions 0.83) suggesting the measures assess related but distinct constructs. The measure was able to discriminate between patients based on their perceived disease severity (p < 0.0001) and self-reported general health (p < 0.0001). The Turkish version of ASQoL has good reliability and validity properties. It is practical and useful scale to assess the quality of life in AS patients in Turkish population.

Measuring health-related quality of life in patients with mild to moderate eczema and psoriasis: clinical validity, reliability and sensitivity to change of the DLQI. The Cavide Research Group.

The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility, validity, reliability and sensitivity to change of a Spanish version of the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) in patients with mild to moderate eczema and psoriasis who were treated with topical corticosteroids. The final study sample comprised 237 patients (48% eczema). Discriminant validity was tested by comparing patients' scores with those of a random sample of the general population (n = 100), and convergent validity by analysing correlations between DLQI scores, measures of clinical severity, and domain scores on the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP). Internal consistency and test-retest reliability were tested in clinically stable patients (n = 94), and responsiveness in a clinically unstable group (n = 143) initiating treatment with topical corticosteroids. Patient scores were significantly higher than general population scores (4.3 vs. 0. 27, P < 0.001). Correlations with NHP domains ranged from 0.12 to 0. 32, and there was significant correlation with clinical measures (r = 0.26, P < 0.001). Reliability was good (Cronbach's alpha = 0.83; intraclass correlation coefficient = 0.88), and the instrument proved responsive to change (effect size for the total group of de novo patients = 0.70), though the great majority of changes occurred in items 1 and 2. The NHP Emotional Reactions and Mobility domains were more responsive than some DLQI domains. In clinical trials of treatments for mild to moderate eczema and psoriasis, it is likely that only items 1 and 2 of the DLQI will be needed, and it is probably advisable to include generic instruments alongside the DLQI.
