Dynamic Description of soliton solutions of nonlinear Schrödinger equation with higher order dispersion and nonlinear terms

Abstract The article presents an analytical solution for the higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE), which describes the propagation of short light pulses in monomode optical fibers. Various traveling wave solutions are obtained using the generalized exponential rational function method, a technique with substantial applications in physics and mathematics. Additionally, the parameters leading to the occurrence of optical bright and multipeak solitons in this medium are provided along with their formation conditions. The derived solutions are graphically displayed to enhance the understanding of the model’s physical phenomena. This approach is credible, potent, and successful in solving a wide variety of different models of this kind that arise in the applied sciences. Its robustness, strength, and efficiency make it suitable for addressing various higher-order nonlinear problems in current research fields, extending beyond the models encountered in the applied sciences.

Deep learning method for predicting the complex nonlinear dynamics of passively mode-locked fiber laser

The dynamic evolution processes are highly complicated nonlinear dynamic processes in passively mode-locked fiber laser systems. Here, an artificial intelligence (AI) model is employed to predict the complex dynamic processes, which uses the long short-term memory network method, serving as an alternative to the numerical calculation of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). We specifically emphasize the complex evolution processes under different gain saturation energies, comparing the results predicted by the AI model with those simulated by the NLSE. The predicted results of the AI model are in good agreement with the simulated results of NLSE. The root mean square errors of test samples in this study are all below 0.15. Furthermore, with GPU acceleration, the AI model achieves a mean simulation time of 0.452 s for 6000 roundtrips, approximately 2391 times faster than the numerical solution of NLSE executed on a CPU.

Dynamics of optical solitons and sensitivity analysis in fiber optics

The Fokas-Lenells (FL) equation stands as a cornerstone in deepening our understanding of nonlinear wave dynamics within optical systems, particularly concerning the behavior of ultrashort pulses across different media. Its significance lies in providing a comprehensive framework to study and analyze complex phenomena, ultimately contributing to advancements in optical technology and applications. The FL equation is an integrable extension of the NLSE that provides a description of the nonlinear propagation of pulses in optical fiber. This paper seeks to discover optical soliton solutions for the FL equation by employing a modified sub-equation method. Additionally, the sensitivity analysis is described by using the various initial conditions. The main novelty of this paper lies in conducting a sensitivity analysis of the FL equation by examining the effects of various initial conditions, providing deeper insights into how these conditions influence the behavior of soliton solutions. For the physical behavior of the models, some solutions are graphically shown in 2D, 3D, and contour graphs by assigning specific values to the parameters under the provided situation at each solution. As a result, we discovered several new families of exact traveling wave solutions, such as bright solitons, dark solitons, and combined bright and dark solitons. This research opens numerous avenues for further exploration in the field of nonlinear wave dynamics and optical soliton theory. The discovery of exact soliton solutions for the FL equation through a modified sub-equation method paves the way for deeper investigations for newcomer researchers. The results of this study will contribute further to the field of mathematical physics, particularly in enhancing the understanding of nonlinear wave propagation and soliton theory in optical and other physical systems.

RKFD Scheme for Quantum Reflection Model of Bose-Einstein Condensates (BEC) from Silicon Surface

We applied the numerical combination of Runge-Kutta and Finite Difference (RKFD) scheme for a quantum reflection model of Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) from a silicon surface. It is by the time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE), a non-linear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) in the context of quantum mechanics. The role of cut-off potential δ and negative imaginary potential Vim is essential to estimating non-interacting BEC reflection models. Relying on these features, we performed a numerical simulation of the BEC quantum reflection model and calculated the effect of reflection probability R versus incident speed vx. The model is based on the three rapid potential variations: positive-step potential +Vstep, negative-step potential -Vstep, and Casimir-Polder potential VCP. As a result, the RKFP numerical scheme was successfully set up and applied to the quantum reflection model of BEC from the silicon surface. The numerical simulations results show that the reflection probability R decays exponentially to the incident speed vx.

Modulation instability of whistler wave with electron loss cone distribution in magnetized plasma

Abstract The modulation instability of whistler mode waves caused by thermal electron anisotropy is studied. Based on MHD equations, the nonlinear schrödinger equation (NLSE) that describes the nonlinear modulation of whistler waves is derived by Using the Krylov-Bogoliubov-Mitropolsky (KBM) method. The condition for wave modulation instability is obtained from the loss cone distribution function of thermal electron anisotropy, revealing that the nonlinear growth of the waves tends towards electron perpendicular temperature anisotropy. By setting up continuous background waves and introducing small ion low frequency perturbations, we find that the change in the amplitude of the modulated wave is related with wave number. This finding has been validated through simulations that align with our analytical results. Additionally, we also calculate the maximum amplitude of the wave with loss cone angle and times, which revealed that the electron vertical temperature anisotropy will lead to the modulation instability of the whistler wave. This further confirms the occurrence of the modulation instability of the whistler wave in laboratory plasmas and strengthens their credibility.&amp;#xD;

A local differential quadrature method for the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger (GNLS) equation

A local differential quadrature method based on Fourier series expansion numerically solves the generalized nonlinear Schrodinger equation. For time integration, a Runge-Kutta fourth-order method is used. Matrix stability analysis is used to examine the method's stability. Three test problems involving the motion of a single solitary wave, the interaction of two solitary waves, and a solution that blows up in finite time, respectively, demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the provided method. Finally, the numerical results obtained from the presented method are compared with the exact solution and those obtained in earlier works available in the literature.

Stationary scattering for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with point-like obstacles: exact solutions

AbstractWe solve the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation (NLSE) in 1D in presence of one, two and several Dirac delta potentials. With the help of an equivalent central force problem we obtain the analytical solutions in terms of a biparametric family containing the Jacobi functions. Elliptic Jacobi functions are already reported in the literature but they have not been used in the context of a scattering problem under causal boundary conditions. In the simplest examples of one or two Dirac deltas we analyze how the nonlinear term of the equation affects the modulus and phase profiles of the wave function. We also study the transmission curves under the nonlinear modification of the tunneling behavior for the first time. For a Fabri-Perot configuration made of two deltas, we obtain the effect of nonlinear coupling in the positions of the local maxima (resonances). We lay the foundations for nonlinear Anderson localization of 1D BECs in a speckle field. Upon redefinition of parameters these novel results describe the dynamics of a stationary Higgs field in 1D. Finally, we discuss the conditions for soliton formation under the influence of a Dirac comb potential, giving rise to fully correlated locations and intensities of the defects.

Stochastic soliton and rogue wave solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with white Gaussian noise

In this letter, we propose a novel integrable nonlinear Schrödinger equation and its Lax pair, influenced by Brownian motion and white Gaussian noise. We aim to construct and solve new integrable systems affected by the white Gaussian noise. Utilising the classical and generalised Darboux transformations, the stochastic soliton solutions and the stochastic rogue wave solutions of this novel integrable nonlinear Schrödinger equation are obtained and expressed in determinant form. Studies of stochastic soliton and rogue wave solutions of the NLS equation are essential for complex physical and mathematical phenomena where nonlinear interactions and randomness play crucial roles.

Using Short Time Series of Monofractal Synthetic Fluctuations to Estimate the Foreign Exchange Rate: The Case of the US Dollar and the Chilean Peso (USD–CLP)

Short time series are fundamental in the foreign exchange market due to their ability to provide real-time information, allowing traders to react quickly to market movements, thus optimizing profits and mitigating risks. Economic transactions show a strong connection to foreign currencies, making exchange rate prediction challenging. In this study, the exchange rate estimation between the US dollar (USD) and the Chilean peso (CLP) for a short period, from 2 August 2021 to 31 August 2022, is modeled using the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) and calculated with the fourth-order Runge–Kutta method, respectively. Additionally, the daily fluctuations of the current exchange rate are characterized using the Hurst exponent, H, and later used to generate short synthetic fluctuations to predict the USD–CLP exchange rate. The results show that the USD–CLP exchange rate can be estimated with an error of less than 5%, while when using short synthetic fluctuations, the exchange rate shows an error of less than 10%.

The effect of Lévy index coefficient on modulational instability and rogue wave excitation in nonlocal media with cubic–quintic nonlinearities

This paper explores the modulational instability (MI) of a plane wave and its behavior in the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with a fractional diffraction term quantified by its Lévy index coefficient and nonlocal cubic–quintic nonlinearities. First, we analyze the stability of the plane wave solution and examine how nonlocal nonlinearities and the Lévy index coefficient affect the MI gain. We observe that the stability in the fractional NLSE exhibits new features that differ from those in the standard NLSE. Specifically, when dealing with competing cubic and quintic nonlinearities, the interaction between nonlocality and the Lévy index coefficient α can eliminate MI for low values of α, unlike the classical NLSE with α=2, where we find the plane wave to be unstable. Besides the linear stability analysis, numerical simulations are performed to understand further the plane wave dynamics from its nonlinear stage in this model. The results reveal the generation of periodic chains of localized peaks. Guided by analytical predictions and using the plane wave solution subject to Gaussian perturbation, we numerically investigate the possibility of exciting rogue waves in the parameter spaces where MI exists. We find that the different combinations of signs of the cubic and quintic nonlinearities (focusing and defocusing) and the fractional diffraction term significantly impact the formation of rogue waves. These results may pave the way for the theoretical and experimental study of nonlinear phenomena in physical models with fractional derivatives and nonlocal nonlinearities.

Data Assimilation and Parameter Identification for Water Waves Using the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation and Physics-Informed Neural Networks

The measurement of deep water gravity wave elevations using in situ devices, such as wave gauges, typically yields spatially sparse data due to the deployment of a limited number of costly devices. This sparsity complicates the reconstruction of the spatio-temporal extent of surface elevation and presents an ill-posed data assimilation problem, which is challenging to solve with conventional numerical techniques. To address this issue, we propose the application of a physics-informed neural network (PINN) to reconstruct physically consistent wave fields between two elevation time series measured at distinct locations within a numerical wave tank. Our method ensures this physical consistency by integrating residuals of the hydrodynamic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) into the PINN’s loss function. We first showcase a data assimilation task by employing constant NLSE coefficients predetermined from spectral wave properties. However, due to the relatively short duration of these measurements and their possible deviation from the narrow-band assumptions inherent in the NLSE, using constant coefficients occasionally leads to poor reconstructions. To enhance this reconstruction quality, we introduce the base variables of frequency and wavenumber, from which the NLSE coefficients are determined, as additional neural network parameters that are fine tuned during PINN training. Overall, the results demonstrate the potential for real-world applications of the PINN method and represent a step toward improving the initialization of deterministic wave prediction methods.

Hydrodynamic modulation instability triggered by a two-wave system.

The modulation instability (MI) is responsible for the disintegration of a regular nonlinear wave train and can lead to strong localizations in the form of rogue waves. This mechanism has been studied in a variety of nonlinear dispersive media, such as hydrodynamics, optics, plasma, mechanical systems, electric transmission lines, and Bose-Einstein condensates, while its impact on applied sciences is steadily growing. It is well-known that the classical MI dynamics can be triggered when a pair of small-amplitude sidebands are excited within a particular frequency range around the main peak frequency. That is, a three-wave system, consisting of the carrier wave together with a pair of unstable sidebands, is usually adopted to initiate the wave focusing process in a numerical or laboratory experiment. Breather solutions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) revealed that MI can generate much more complex localized structures, beyond the three-wave system initialization approach or by means of a continuous spectrum. In this work, we report an experimental study for deep-water surface gravity waves asserting that a MI process can be triggered by a single unstable sideband only, and thus, initialized from a two-wave process when including the contribution of the peak frequency. The experimental data are validated against fully nonlinear hydrodynamic numerical wave tank simulations and show very good agreement. The long-term evolution of such unstable wave trains shows a distinct shift in the recurrent Fermi-Pasta-Ulam-Tsingou focusing cycles, which are captured by the NLSE and fully nonlinear hydrodynamic simulations with some distinctions.

Modulational instability, generation, and evolution of rogue waves in the generalized fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equations with power-law nonlinearity and rational potentials.

In this paper, we investigate several properties of the modulational instability (MI) and rogue waves (RWs) within the framework of the generalized fractional nonlinear Schrödinger (FNLS) equations with rational potentials. We derive the dispersion relation for a continuous wave (CW), elucidating the relationship between the wavenumber and the instability growth rate of the CW solution in the absence of potentials. This relationship is primarily influenced by the power parameter σ, the Lévy index α, and the nonlinear coefficient g. Our theoretical findings are corroborated by numerical simulations, which demonstrate that MI occurs in the focusing context. Furthermore, we study the RW generations in both cubic and quintic FNLS equations with two types of time-dependent rational potentials, which make both cubic and quintic NLS equations support the exact RW solutions. Specifically, we show that the introduction of these two potentials allows for the excitations of controllable RWs in the defocusing regime. When these two potentials become the time-independent cases such that the stable W-shaped solitons with non-zero backgrounds are generated in these cubic and quintic FNLS equations. Moreover, we consider the excitations of higher-order RWs and investigate the conditions necessary for their generations. Our analysis reveals the intricate interplay between the system parameters and the potential configurations, offering insights into the mechanisms that facilitate the emergence of higher-order RWs. Finally, we find the separated controllable multi-RWs in the defocusing cubic FNLS equation with time-dependent multi-potentials. This comprehensive study not only enhances our understanding of MI and RWs in the fractional nonlinear wave systems, but also paves the way for future research in related nonlinear wave phenomena.

Propagation of wave insights to the Chiral Schrödinger equation along with bifurcation analysis and diverse optical soliton solutions

In this study, the modified Sardar sub-equation method is capitalised to secure soliton solutions to the (1+1)\\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \\usepackage{amsmath} \\usepackage{wasysym} \\usepackage{amsfonts} \\usepackage{amssymb} \\usepackage{amsbsy} \\usepackage{mathrsfs} \\usepackage{upgreek} \\setlength{\\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \\begin{document}$$(1+1)$$\\end{document}-dimensional chiral nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation. Chiral soliton propagation in nuclear physics is an extremely attractive field because of its wide applications in communications and ultrafast signal routing systems. Additionally, we perform bifurcation analysis to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the chiral NLS equation. This highlights the complex behaviour of the system and exposes the conditions under which various types of bifurcations occur. Additionally, a sensitivity analysis is performed to assess how small changes in initial conditions and parameters influence the solutions, offering valuable perspectives on the stability and dependability of the acquired solutions. By employing the above-mentioned methodology, we derive a variety of exact solutions, including periodic, singular, dark, bright, mixed trigonometric, exponential, hyperbolic, and rational wave solutions. The study’s findings advance our theoretical knowledge of chiral NLS equations and have potential applications in optical communication and related fields.
