Darcy-Forchhiemer thermofluidics of Micropolar-Casson fluid adjacent to a non-isothermal vertical plate with velocity slip using homotopy analysis method: Cattaneo-Christov flux

The present communication presents an entropy generation analysis of the Micropolar-Casson fluid flow adjacent to a non-isothermal vertical plate situated within a Darcy-Forchhiemer porous medium in a Cattaneo-Christov heat flux set-up. The governing equations admitting similar transformation results in a set of ODEs are handled by the homotopy analysis method. The study investigates the impact of embedded parameters on the flow and thermal fields. The present study presents tabulated data on skin friction, couple stress and wall temperature gradient besides profiles for other quantities of interest. In order to ensure the desired accuracy of the computations, the total squared residual error is minimized up to order The manuscript presents detailed working of the homotopy analysis method depicting its robustness as an elegant mathematical tool to tackle coupled BVP system generating entropy. The data set for the quantities of interest may be useful estimates for future similarly situated larger setups with varied complexities.

Numerical Solution of Natural Convection Nanofluid Flow over aNon-Isothermal Vertical Plate

The natural convection nanofluidflow over a non-isothermal vertical plate is studied numerically. The effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis parameters are incorporated into models used for nanofluids. The non-linear partial differential equations and boundary conditions are transformed into a set of nonlinear ordinally differential equations using the similarity transformations. The resulting system of equations are solved numerically by using shooting techniques. This solution depends on the Prandtl number (Pr), Buoyancy ratio (Nr), Brownian-motion (Nb), thermophoresis parameter (Nt), Lewis number (Le), and power-law exponent (λ). For different values of λ, Le and Pr, the influence of reduced Nusselt number with Nr, Nb and Nt is represented by correlation formulas and compared with previously published results and found to be in better agreement.

Influence of thermophoretic deposition and viscous dissipation on magnetohydrodynamic flow with variable viscosity and thermal conductivity

AbstractIn this study, we numerically explore the impact of varying viscosity and thermal conductivity on a magnetohydrodynamic flow problem over a moving nonisothermal vertical plate with thermophoretic effect and viscous dissipation. The boundary conditions and flow‐regulating equations are converted into ordinary differential equations with the aid of similarity substitution. The MATLAB bvp4c solver is used to evaluate the numerical solution of the problem and it is validated by executing the numerical solution with previously published studies. The impacts of several factors, including the magnetic parameter, Eckert number, heat source parameter, thermal conductivity parameter, stratification parameter, Soret, Dufour, Prandtl number, and Schmidt number are calculated and shown graphically. Also, the skin friction coefficient, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number are calculated. Fluid velocity, temperature, and concentration significantly drop as the thermophoretic parameter and thermal stratification parameter increases. As thermal conductivity rises, it is seen that the velocity of the fluid and temperature inside the boundary layer rise as well. Also, the Soret effect drops temperature and concentration profile. The applications of this type of problem are found in the processes of nuclear reactors, corrosion of heat exchangers, lubrication theory, and so forth.

Theoretical Investigation of Viscosity and Thermal Conductivity of a Gas along a Non-isothermal Vertical Surface in Porous Environment with Dissipative Heat: Numerical Technique

The prime objective of the current investigation is to explore the variation of viscosity and thermal conductivity impacts on MHD convective flow over a moving non-isothermal vertical plate in presence of the viscous-dissipative heat and thermal-radiation. The compatible transformation of similarity are employed to obtain the non-linear ODE with the appropriate boundary conditions from the governing equations and the numerical solution of the boundary value problem so obtained are solved via MATLAB bvp4c solver. Naturally, the fluid viscosity and thermal-conductivity may vary from liquid to metal with temperatures and therefore, the impact of viscosity and thermal-conductivity in this investigation is quite significant. The physical parameters along with several influences on momentum, temperature, and concentration are explicated and portrayed with graphs. In addition, the velocity, temperature and concentration gradients at the surface are evaluated and displayed in tabular form. A decent agreement is found in the present outcomes with previously issued work. Furthermore, it is found that the growth of the thermal-radiation increases the gas temperature. The present study is useful for various industrial applications like metal and polymer extrusion, continuous casting, cooling process, nuclear plant and many more.

Investigation of variable viscosity and thermal conductivity on MHD mass transfer flow problem over a moving non-isothermal vertical plate

In this paper we investigate numerically the influence of variable viscosity and thermal conductivity on MHD convective flow of heat and mass transfer problem over a moving non-isothermal vertical plate. The viscosity of the fluid and thermal conductivity are presumed to be the inverse linear functions of temperature. With the help of similarity substitution, the flow governing equations and boundary conditions are transformed into non-dimensional ordinary differential equations. The boundary value problem so obtained is then solved using MATLAB bvp4c solver. The effects of various parameters viz. magnetic parameter, viscosity parameter, thermal conductivity parameter, stratification parameter and Schmidt number on velocity, temperature and concentration are obtained numerically and presented trough graphs. Also the coefficient of skin-friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number are computed and displayed in tabular form. The effects of the viscosity parameter and thermal conductivity parameter in particular are prominent. This study has applications in a number of technological processes such as metal and polymer extrusion.

Natural Convective Boundary Layer Flow Over a Nonisothermal Vertical Plate Embedded in a Porous Medium Saturated With a Nanofluid

Nanofluid refers to a liquid containing a dispersion of submicronic solid particles or nanoparticles. Nanofluids display a thermal conductivity enhancement. This phenomenon suggests the possibility of using nanofluids in electronic cooling and advanced nuclear systems. In this article, a boundary layer analysis is presented for the natural convection past a nonisothermal vertical plate in a porous medium saturated with a nanofluid. Numerical results for friction factor, surface heat transfer rate, and mass transfer rate are presented for parametric variations of the buoyancy ratio parameter, Nr; Brownian motion parameter, Nb; thermophoresis parameter, Nt; Lewis number, Le; and the power law exponent, λ. The dependency of the friction factor, surface heat transfer rate (Nusselt number), and mass transfer rate on these parameters is discussed.

Similarity solutions for magneto-forced-unsteady free convective laminar boundary-layer flow

The group theoretic method is applied for solving problem of a unsteady free-convective laminar boundary-layer flow on a non-isothermal vertical plate under the effect of an external velocity and a magnetic field normal to the plate. The application of two-parameter transformation group reduces the number of independent variables, by two, and consequently the system of governing partial differential equations with the boundary and initial conditions reduces to a system of ordinary differential equations with appropriate corresponding conditions. The Runge–Kutta shooting method used to find the numerical solution of the velocity field, shear stress, heat transfer and heat flux has been obtained. The effect of the magnetic field on the velocity field and the Prandtl number on the heat transfer and heat flux has been discussed.

Combined convection in non-Newtonian fluids along a nonisothermal vertical plate in a porous medium with lateral mass flux

A boundary layer analysis has been presented for interaction of combined convection from vertical surface in a porous medium saturated with a power-low type non-Newtonian fluid with presence suction and injection. The transformed conservation laws are solved numerically for the case of variable surface heat flux conditions. Results for the details of the velocity and temperature fields as well as the Nusselt number have been presented. The effect of fluid suction/injection on the heat transfer rate is discussed.

Natural convection over a non-isothermal vertical plate

In many applications, convective heat transfer is coupled with conductive and radiative heat transfer which generate temperature gradients along the walls and may greatly affect natural convective heat transfer. In this paper, the influence of the non-uniformity of wall temperature on the heat transfer by natural convection along a vertical plate having a linearly distributed temperature (characterized by the slope S) is pointed out. Heat transfer correlations giving Nusselt number vs Rayleigh number and S for both laminar and turbulent flows are obtained.

Nonsimilar solutions for free convection from a nonisothermal vertical plate in a micropolar fluid

A nonsimilar boundary layer analysis is presented for the problem of natural convection in micropolar fluids along a nonisothermal vertical plate. The transformed governing laws are solved numerically using a finite difference method. Numerical results are presented for the details of the velocity and temperature fields for a range of values of material properties of the fluid.

Combined convection in power-law fluids along a nonisothermal vertical plate in a porous medium

The problem of combined convection from vertical surfaces in a porous medium saturated with a power-law type non-Newtonian fluid is investigated. The transformed conservation laws are solved numerically for the case of variable surface heat flux conditions. Results for the details of the velocity and temperature fields as well as the Nusselt number have been presented. The viscosity index ranged from 0.5 to 2.0.

Linearization method for buoyancy induced flow over a nonisothermal vertical plate

A simple model is developed to predict natural convective heat transfer from an isolated vertical plate with an arbitrary surface temperature variation. The concept of linearized approximation is applied to the boundarylayer equations with the use of an effective velocity. The effective velocity characterizes the buoyancy induced flow in the boundary layer, and it is determined by relating the total work done by the buoyant force on the fluid to the kinetic energy of the fluid flow. The temperature distributions in the fluid and the surface heat-flux variations are predicted for the cases in air with a variety of different surface temperature conditions. The present solutions are in excellent agreement with existing solutions that are obtained by using more rigorous solution techniques.

A method for researching natural convection heat transfer from a non-isothermal vertical plate by infra-red thermovision

The modern infra-red thermovision technique is introduced to measure the surface temperature distribution on a vertical plate. The temperature distributions of air in natural convection and hence the local Nusselt number are calculated numerically. Natural convection heat transfer for a vertical plate with a horizontal discrete heating surface is studied as a working example, and typical results are reported and discussed. It is clear that, such a method not only benefits the research on natural convection heat transfer but also extends the field of application for infra-red thermovision.

Temperature profiles of a nonisothermal vertical plate in free convection

An experimental investigation of the temperature profiles from a non-isothermal vertical plate in free convection was carried out, and the results are compared with those predicted by theoretical solutions. In particular a linear temperature distribution of the form T W=A+Cx and an exponential one, of the form T W=Ae Bx were imposed on the vertical plate, which was exposed to ambient air.

Abstract An analysis is made for laminar free convection from a vertical flat plate having a nonuniform surface temperature. The following two families of surface temperatures were studied: (i) Tw – T∞ = Nxn, (ii) Tw – T∞ = Memx. Both families submit to mathematical analysis by the conventional techniques of laminar boundary-layer theory; i.e., they permit the finding of similar solutions of the boundary-layer equations. Numerical solutions have been carried out for Pr = 0.7 and 1.0; i.e., for gases. Heat-transfer results are presented, as are temperature and velocity distributions.
