A new species of squat lobster of the genus Hendersonida (Crustacea, Decapoda, Munididae) from Papua New Guinea.

Hendersonida parvirostrissp. nov. is described from Papua New Guinea. The new species can be distinguished from the only other species of the genus, H. granulata (Henderson, 1885), by the fewer spines on the dorsal carapace surface, the shape of the rostrum and supraocular spines, the antennal peduncles, and the length of the walking legs. Pairwise genetic distances estimated using the 16S rRNA and COI DNA gene fragments indicated high levels of sequence divergence between the new species and H. granulata. Phylogenetic analyses, however, recovered both species as sister species, supporting monophyly of the genus.

A new species of the deep-sea squat lobster genus Eumunida Smith, 1883 (Decapoda: Anomura: Eumunididae) from the Arabian Sea off southwestern India.

A new species of the squat lobster genus Eumunida Smith, 1883 (Chirostyloidea: Eumunididae), E. multispina, is described and illustrated primarily on the basis of two male specimens from the Arabian Sea off the Kerala State, southwestern India, at depths of 250-400 m. One specimen from Lakshadweep, previously identified with E. funambulus Gordon, 1930, is also referred to the new species. The new species is morphologically most similar to E. funambulus among the 29 known congeners, but the presence of four epigastric spines and more numerous lateral spines on the carapace (four on the anterolateral and seven to 10 on the branchial margins) immediately distinguish the new species from E. funambulus. Genetic analysis using the mitochondrial COI and 16S rRNA markers also indicates that the new species is distinct from congenerics for which the sequence data are available.

Uroptychus atlanticus, a new species of squat lobster (Crustacea: Decapoda: Anomura: Chirostylidae) from the western Atlantic Ocean.

A new species of squat lobster, Uroptychus atlanticus, is described on the basis of a female specimen taken at a depth of 713-841 m in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. The new species is readily distinguished from all known species of the genus from the western Atlantic by the very spinose carapace and pereopods, and a transverse row of spines on each of the abdominal tergites 1 and 2.

A new species of squat lobster of the genus Munida (Galatheoidea, Munididae) from the Red Sea

During a deep-water expedition to the Red Sea in 2013, an unusual specimen of squat lobster belonging to the genus Munida was collected off Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, at a depth of 320 m. This specimen is unique in having the pterygostomial flap visible from the dorsal side, the feature linking it to two eastern Pacific species, M. bapensis Hendrickx, 2000 and M. macrobrachia Hendrickx, 2003. The new species (M. tuerkayi) is readily distinguished from the eastern Pacific species by having the gastric region with numerous instead of less numerous spines, by having sternite 7 with three distinct carinae on each side, and by having the antennular basal article with two distal spines subequal instead of different in size. Munida tuerkayi was found associated with live colonies of the scleractinian coral Eguchipsammia fistula (Alcock, 1902).

A new squat lobster (Crustacea, Anomura, Munididae) from the Pliocene of Monterotondo Marittimo (Tuscany, Italy)

We report a new species of squat lobster from the Plio- cene of Monterotondo Marittimo (Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy). The speci- mens have been assigned to the fossil and extant <em>Munida</em> Leach, 1820, with <em>M. grossetana</em> n. sp. (Munididae Ahyong, Baba, MacPherson & Poore, 2010)<em>. Munida grossetana</em> n. sp. represents the first report for the genus in the Mediterranean area, enlarging the palaeogeographic distribution for the genus.

A new squat lobster (Crustacea, Anomura, Munidopsidae) from the Middle-Late Eocene of British Columbia (Canada)

We report a new species of squat lobster from the Eocene Appian Way locality of Vancouver Island (British Columbia, Canada). The specimen is assigned to the fossil and extant Munidopsis Whiteaves, 1874, with M. canadensis n. sp. (Munidopsidae Ortmann, 1898). Munidopsis canadensis n. sp. represents the first report for the genus out of the Antarctica Peninsula and Europe, enlarging the palaeogeographic distribution for the genus.

A new species of Munidopsis Whiteaves, 1874 (Crustacea: Anomura: Galatheoidea: Munidopsidae) from the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea.

A new species of squat lobster, Munidopsis shulerae sp. nov., from the Gulf of Mexico and western Caribbean, is fully described and illustrated. This new species is named in honor of the late Barbara Shuler Mayo (1945-1988), who first recognized this new taxon in her 1974 unpublished doctoral dissertation, but never formalized it. This new species is placed in the Anoplonotus group based on the presence of simple, narrow rostrum, spineless eyes, fused sternites 3 and 4, well-marked carapace regions, unarmed pleonal tergites, and smooth dactyls of pereopods 2-4. Among western Atlantic congeners, M. shulerae sp. nov. is most similar to M. polita (Smith, 1883), from which it can be distinguished by the straight shape of the rostrum with a tuberculate dorsal carina extending to the epigastric region, coarse ornamentation of the carapace, and a conspicuous submarginal protuberance on each side of the carapace between the antennal and ocular peduncles.

Munidopsis kareenae, a new species of seamount squat lobster from New Zealand with a key to the New Zealand species of Munidopsis (Crustacea: Decapoda: Munidopsidae)

A new species of the squat lobster genus Munidopsis is described from Nukuhou Seamount, North Island, New Zealand.The new species is allied to members of the "Galathodes group" within Munidopsis that share a flattened, distally trifidrostrum, an unarmed carapace surface (apart from paired epigastric spines in some species), unarmed abdominal tergitesand absence of pereopodal epipods. The new species is readily separated from these species by the combination of unarmedlateral carapace margins posterior to the anterolateral spine, absence of epigastric spines, and prominently spinoseextensor margins of the pereopod 2-4 meri. Fourteen species of Munidopsis are now recorded from New Zealand; a keyto the New Zealand species is provided.

A new species of Galathea Fabricius, 1793 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Anomura: Galatheidae) from Okinawa, southern Japan

A new species of squat lobster, Galathea chura sp. nov., is described from deep-waters off Okinawa Island in the Ryukyus,southern Japan, on the basis of a single specimen found on a colony of unidentified octocoral of the genus Parisis Verrill,1864. The new species resembles G. magnifica Haswell, 1882, G. spinosorostris Dana, 1852, and G. tanegashimae Baba,1969, in having scale-like or interrupted arcuate ridges on the gastric region of the carapace and epipods on the first or first and second pereopods only, but it is readily distinguished by the absence of epigastric spines.

A new squat lobster (Crustacea: Decapoda: Anomura: Chirostylidae) from off NW Spain

Uroptychus cartesi, a new species of squat lobster belonging to the family Chirostylidae, is described based upon materialrecently collected from the Bank of Galicia, a deep seamount located off north-west Spain. This is now the fifth speciesof the genus known from the eastern Atlantic. The four species previously recorded in the region (U. bouvieri, U. concolor,U. maroccanus and U. rubrovittatus) are morphologically rather remote from the new species. The spinose carapace lat-eral margin links U. cartesi to U. bouvieri but the other characters displayed by the new species are largely different fromthose of that species. Uroptychus cartesi is distinguished from U. bouvieri by the epigastric region having denticles ar-ranged in small arcs transversely rather than a pair of spines behind the eyes; the anterolateral spine of the carapace ismuch larger than, instead of subequal to, the lateral orbital spine; the P2–4 propodi are slightly more than half, instead oftwice, the length of dactyli; and the penultimate flexor marginal spine of P2–4 dactyli are twice as broad as, rather than as broad as the antepenultimate spine. A key to the species of Uroptychus from the eastern Atlantic is provided.

A New Species of <I>Uroptychus </I> (Decapoda: Anomura: Chirostylidae) from Taiwan

A new species of squat lobster, Uroptychus parilis sp. nov., is described and illustrated from two female specimens collected in taiwan. The new species is closely related to Uroptychus babai Ahyong and poore, 2004, and was misidentified as it before. Uroptychus parilis sp. nov. is characterized by having the lateral margins of the carapace smooth and slightly irregular, the thoracic sternite 4 produced into a sharp spine which reaches the anterior end of emargination of the thoracic sternite 3, and the antennal scale falling short to slightly overreaching apex of fifth peduncle segment.

Babamunida debrae, a new species of squat lobster (Crustacea: Anomura: Galatheoidea: Munididae) from the Hawaiian Islands

A new species of squat lobster, Babamunida debrae, was found in shallow waters of the west coast of Hawai‘i. It is readily distinguished from all the other species of the genus by the presence of a pair of spines on the second abdominal tergite. Babamunida debrae is the second species of the genus from Hawaii and seventh species of the genus from the Indo-Pacific.

A new species and a new record of the genus Uroptychodes Baba, 2004 (Decapoda, Chirostylidae) from the East China Sea

Uroptychodes babai n. sp., a new species of squat lobster of the family Chirostylidae, and Uroptychodes barunae Baba, 2004, which is for the first time recorded from the East China Sea, are reported in the present paper. The new species is characterized by the lateral margins of the rostrum being almost entire, the carapace with the posterior two-thirds equipped with medium-sized spines, and the antennal scale overreaching the penultimate segment but failing to reach halfway the length of the ultimate segment of the antennal peduncle.

Morphological and molecular description of new species of squat lobster (Crustacea: Decapoda: Galatheidae) from the Solomon and Fiji Islands (South-West Pacific)

The family Galatheidae is among the most diverse families of anomuran decapod crustaceans, and the South-West Pacific is a biodiversity hot spot for these squat lobsters. Attempts to clarify the taxonomic and evolutionary relationships of the Galatheidae on the basis of morphological and molecular data have revealed the existence of several cryptic species, differentiated only by subtle morphological characters. Despite these efforts, however, relationships among genera are poorly understood, and the family is in need of a detailed systematic review. In this study, we assess material collected in different surveys conducted in the Solomon Islands, as well as comparative material from the Fiji Islands, by examining both the morphology of the specimens and two mitochondrial markers (cytochrome oxidase subunit I, COI, and 16S rRNA). These two sources of data revealed the existence of eight new species of squat lobster, four of which were ascribed to the genus Munida, two to the genus Paramunida, one to the genus Plesionida, and the last species was ascribed to the genus Agononida. These eight species are described along with phylogenetic relationships at the genus level. Our findings support the taxonomic status of the new species, yet the phylogenetic relationships are not yet fully resolved. Further molecular analysis of a larger data set of species, and more conserved genes, will help clarify the systematics of this group. © 2009 The Linnean Society of London, Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2009, 156, 465–493.

It is differentiated from the other known species of the genus by a ventrally inflated third thoracic sternite and the absence of spines on the carapace other than a pair of epigastric spines. The coloration is similar to that of C. stellarus Osawa, 2007, from which it is distinct in having no white spots on the lateral surface of the P2-4 meri and carpi. Une espece nouvelle de galathee, Chirostylus sandyi, est decrite a partir de deux femelles recoltees sur un recif plat a Bohol, Philippines et au Detroit de Lembeh, Indonesie.
