The article is devoted to the study of discursive practices of denial in intercultural communication as a kind of discursive social practice. The multidimensional nature of intercultural communication determines the complexity of the problems of studying intercultural communication from the point of view of culture studies, linguistics, sociology, philosophy, ethnology, pragmatics, the theory of mass communication, political science and public administration. The study of the pragmatic aspect of intercultural communication is relevant from the point of view of the integrated approach that helps to reveal the picture of the world of the people, its way of life, and the socio-cultural conditionality of the language allows us to establish the facts of the culture of the people, which contributes to better mutual understanding in the intercultural dialogue. The article noted that there is a significant difference between sociocultural space and time and multicultural space.From our point of view, the current situation of the development of new strategies of cultural communities that are active in activism is not deprived of the national and cultural potential of the society, a lot of mental and spiritual growth, and there is no new pattern of new growth.

Deterritorialization of artisanal fisheries in Sepetiba Bay (State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil): an overview of occupational health and environmental issues

This paper outlines the consequences of deterritorialization of artisan fishing folk in Sepetiba Bay in the State of Rio de Janeiro on the occupational and health status of this population living in the area. By means of the concept of social determinants in health, it compares the new patterns of growth in the region with the living and occupational health conditions of these workers. This relationship was explained after conducting semi-structured interviews and focus groups. The results point to a strong relationship between the port undertakings and the installations of the nuclear program of the Brazilian Navy with subsistence and extractive fishing, contributing to an increase in the time spent at sea and the inherent occupational risks involved in subsistence fishing. This is in addition to the economic and environmental impacts on the productivity and quality of fishing production, which are a direct consequence of the dredging works and the new navigation and anchoring norms established and imposed by the state.

The Dynamics Of Poverty, Inequality and Economic Well-being: African Economic Growth in Comparative Perspective

Two hundred and fifty million Africans (about 45% of the population) are poor. In rural areas, where most Africans live, there is, alas, a 'poor majority'. Rural poverty rates range from 37% in Madagascar and 41% in Kenya to 88% in Zambia and 94% in Ghana (Table 1). It is hard to imagine an issue in development economics that is of greater importance to humankind than the effects of economic growth on poverty and economic well-being. Yet there is remarkably little consensus on this vitally important issue, as illustrated by the following two polar positions: • New patterns of growth will need to be developed and sustained well into the 21st century to prevent ever more extreme imbalances and inequalities in the world economy. (United Nations, 1996, p. 8) • In the extreme, the inequality of income may worsen fast enough at the outset of economic growth for poverty to increase; growth would be 'immiserizing' . . . . There is no case in which the effect of growth is offset by changes in inequality (contrary to the immiserizing growth hypothesis.) In short, growth reduces poverty. [Emphasis added.] (World Bank, 1990, pp. 46-7) This paper provides a fresh look at these issues with particular reference to Africa. In so doing, the methodologies for analyzing changing income distribution in the course of economic growth are introduced. Data and methods are analyzed in much greater depth in Fields (2000), to which the interested reader is referred.

Creative crisis: New patterns of growth and employment

Unemployment as a factor of economic and social life is likely to be with us for some time, and may well double within the next few years. The author makes a critical review of the traditional remedies and suggests ways in which the situation might be alleviated or dealt with in a positive fashion. Resignation in the face of the crisis will only lead to new crises. Proposals for new patterns of growth are suggested and a new attitude to planning within the situation.

Traffic and Safety in Tomorrow's Urban Areas

This article is a view of urban communities and their growth after the full impact of the current National High way Program is felt. Future growth will be split between the existing urban areas and new locations in rural areas activated by interstate routes. A tendency toward lower densities and the desire for unscheduled movement will favor use of the auto mobile. A pattern of new growth will be the result of a guided development process. New methods of harmonizing land uses will obviate the necessity of rigid segregation of land uses re sulting in concentration of traffic generators. More even dis tribution of the latter will mean lower peak load on highways. Design features of expressways, making their high speed safe, will be utilized in the gradual development of other highways concurrently with development of land. Wide right-of-ways will make it possible. Expansion of the existing urban areas will be somewhat along the same lines. Old cities will be in the process of orderly replanning and rebuilding of their older sections which are relentlessly growing obsolete. Modern de sign will assure safe movement in rebuilt areas. With some new features of design, provisions for off-street parking, and with regulations based upon a better knowledge of the human being, safe and rapid movement of people may be attained with out undue restraint of liberty.
