Features and Scope of Regulatory Technologies: Challenges and Opportunities with Industrial Internet of Things

Regulatory Technology (RegTech) is an emerging set of computing and network-based information systems and practices intended to enhance and improve regulatory compliance processes. Such technologies rely on collecting exclusive information from the environment and humans through automated Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and self-reported data. The key enablers of RegTech are the increased capabilities and reduced cost of IoT and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. This article focuses on a survey of RegTech, highlighting the recent developments in various sectors. This work identifies the characteristics of existing implementations of RegTech applications in the financial industry. It examines the critical features that non-financial industries such as agriculture must address when using such technologies. We investigate the suitability of existing technologies applied in financial sectors to other industries and the potential gaps to be filled between them in terms of designing information systems for regulatory frameworks. This includes identifying specific operational parameters that are key differences between the financial and non-financial sectors that can be supported with IoT and AI technologies. These can be used by both producers of goods and services and regulators who need an affordable and efficient supervision method for managing relevant organizations.

Review of the Distributed Computing and EMR: Can EDI Solve the Problem?

The impact of distributed computing in healthcare is just beginning to be realized. The goal of wide scale integration of electronic medical records while meeting stringent security, confidentiality and privacy requirements for the patient is a grand-challenge scale problem of global proportions with farreaching social benefits. Healthcare organizations have to protect private information pertaining to the individuals they serve. As more and more healthcare organizations implement computer-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERPs), telemedicine, EDI, data warehouses and other network-based information systems, information security in healthcare gains importance more than ever before. In this paper we are proposing two clinical services based systems, the ontology based data gleaning system, the gleaned data is sent to which has an in-built generalization privacy technique and the agent-based intelligent decision support system.

Glowbal IP: An Adaptive and Transparent IPv6 Integration in the Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) requires scalability, extensibility and a transparent integration of multi-technology in order to reach an efficient support for global communications, discovery and look-up, as well as access to services and information. To achieve these goals, it is necessary to enable a homogenous and seamless machine-to-machine (M2M) communication mechanism allowing global access to devices, sensors and smart objects. In this respect, the proposed answer to these technological requirements is called Glowbal IP, which is based on a homogeneous access to the devices/sensors offered by the IPv6 addressing and core network. Glowbal IP's main advantages with regard to 6LoWPAN/IPv6 are not only that it presents a low overhead to reach a higher performance on a regular basis, but also that it determines the session and identifies global access by means of a session layer defined over the application layer. Technologies without any native support for IP are thereby adaptable to IP e.g. IEEE 802.15.4 and Bluetooth Low Energy. This extension towards the IPv6 network opens access to the features and methods of the devices through a homogenous access based on WebServices (e.g. RESTFul/CoAP). In addition to this, Glowbal IP offers global interoperability among the different devices, and interoperability with external servers and users applications. All in all, it allows the storage of information related to the devices in the network through the extension of the Domain Name System (DNS) from the IPv6 core network, by adding the Service Directory extension (DNS-SD) to store information about the sensors, their properties and functionality. A step forward in network-based information systems is thereby reached, allowing a homogenous discovery, and access to the devices from the IoT. Thus, the IoT capabilities are exploited by allowing an easier and more transparent integration of the end users applications with sensors for the future evaluations and use cases.

From Paremiography to Paremiology: the Role of AIP-IAP as an International and Cultural Exchange facilitator

The wisdom of proverbs is an established fact well documented in the thousands of works by paremiographers when collecting, writing and classifying proverbs. For centuries, the popular sayings were, and continue to be, popular in many cultures and languages as a way of maintaining and passing on tradi- tional values and thoughts from one generation to the next. The increasing number of publications universally and the higher degree of connectivity between people internationally have facilitated the migration of proverbs around the world and made it possible to study these expressions on a comparative basis. The need for a common pattern in the global village leads paremiologists to address questions such as definition, content, structure, func- tion, meaning, style, and value of proverbs, and how to be involved in the domain of proverbial databases. The Associacao Internacional de Paremiologia / International Association of Paremiology (AIP-IAP) arises from the need for a facilitator of the exchange and diffusion of paremiological studies and related areas through the estab- lishment of international network-based information systems. The AIP-IAP encourages international cooperation between academics and motivates young researchers to conduct paremiological studies in order to protect and preserve the cultural heritage transmitted by our elders.

Requirement emergence computation of networked software

Emergence Computation has become a hot topic in the research of complex systems in recent years. With the substantial increase in scale and complexity of network-based information systems, the uncertain user requirements from the Internet and personalized application requirement result in the frequent change for the software requirement. Meanwhile, the software system with non self-possessed resource become more and more complex. Furthermore, the interaction and cooperation requirement between software units and running environment in service computing increase the complexity of software systems. The software systems with complex system characteristics are developing into the “Networked Software” with characteristics of change-on-demand and change-with-cooperation. The concepts “programming”, “compiling” and “running” of software in common sense are extended from “desktop” to “network”. The core issue of software engineering is moving to the requirement engineering, which becomes the research focus of complex system software engineering.

A Secure Online Medical Information System in Distributed and Heterogeneous Computing Environment

The objective of this article is to analyze the importance and the role of Information Security in online medical information systems. Healthcare organiza- tions have to protect private information pertaining to the individuals they serve. As more and more healthcare organizations implement computer-based ERPs, tele- medicine, EDI, data warehouses and other network-based information systems, in- formation security in healthcare gains importance more than ever before. Possible questions and issues related to information security requirements might be: How do the healthcare professionals protect the information in their EPR systems?, How can network data exchange and transfer over the Internet be accomplished without being tampered by hackers and other unauthorized individuals or groups? To answer these questions, players in the healthcare chain (providers, physicians) are turning to computerized solutions. As one might recall, turning to computerized medical record systems was the solution for healthcare organizations some years ago. Now we are dealing with the problems that those computerized systems may bring.
