Comparison of the efficacy of spinal cord stimulation and dorsal root ganglion stimulation in the treatment of painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy: a prospective, cohort-controlled study.

The aim of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) and dorsal root ganglion stimulation (DRG-S) in the treatment of painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (PDPN). In this prospective cohort study, 55 patients received dorsal column spinal cord stimulation (SCS group) and 51 patients received dorsal root spinal cord stimulation (DRG-S group). The primary outcome was a Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) remission rate of ≥50%, and secondary outcomes included the effects of SCS and DRG-S on quality of life scores (EQ-5D-3L), nerve conduction velocity, and HbA1c, respectively. The percentage of NRS remission rate ≥ 50% at 6 months was 80.43 vs. 79.55%, OR (95% CI): 1.06 (0.38-2.97) in the SCS and DRG-S groups, respectively, and the percentage of VAS remission rate ≥ 50% at 12 months was 79.07 vs. 80.95%, OR (95% CI): 0.89 (0.31-2.58). Compared with baseline, there were significant improvements in EQ-5D and EQ-VAS at 6 and 12 months (p < 0.05), but there was no difference in improvement between the SCS and DRG-S groups (p > 0.05). Nerve conduction velocities of the common peroneal, peroneal, superficial peroneal, and tibial nerves were significantly improved at 6 and 12 months compared with the preoperative period in both the SCS and PND groups (p < 0.05). However, at 6 and 12 months, there was no difference in HbA1c between the two groups (p > 0.05). Both SCS and DRG-S significantly improved pain, quality of life, and lower extremity nerve conduction velocity in patients with PDPN, and there was no difference between the two treatments at 12 months.

The relationship between fatigue, neuropathic pain, and neurophysiological features in carpal tunnel syndrome

Introduction: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment mononeuropathy and can affect patients' daily living activities. In this study, it was aimed to find out whether there is a relationship between fatigue, neuropathic pain and neurophysiological features in CTS.&#x0D; Material and Method: Patients with clinical features compatible with CTS were included in this retrospective study. Median nerve compound muscle action potential (CMAP) and compound nerve action potential (CNAP) of the patients were analyzed. The Turkish version of the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) was administered to all patients. Patients with a mean FSS score of ≥4 were considered to have fatigue. In addition, Leeds Assessment of Neuropathic Symptoms and Signs (LANSS) was applied to some patients. If the LANSS score was 12 or higher, these patients were considered to have neuropathic pain.&#x0D; Results: Thirty-two female and eight male CTS patients were included in the study. Thirty-two patients had clinically bilateral CTS and eight patients had right-sided CTS. FSS and LANSS were administered to 40 and 18 patients, respectively. Effects of Infrared Combined with Methylcobalamin on the Vibratory Sensory Threshold and Nerve Conduction Velocity of the Lower Extremity in Patients with Diabetic Foot Treatment.

Objective To investigate the effect of infrared combined with methylcobalamin on the vibratory sensory threshold and lower limb nerve conduction velocity of patients with diabetic foot. Methods One hundred and six patients with diabetic foot in our hospital from February 2018 to December 2020 were enrolled and divided into the study and control groups. The patients in the control group were given methylcobalamin, and the patients in the research group were treated with infrared light on the basis of the control group. The therapeutic effect, vibration sensory threshold, lower limb nerve conduction velocity, and related biochemical index levels before and after treatment in the two groups were counted. Result The total effective rate of the study group (94.34%) was significantly higher than that of the control group (81.13%). The left/right lower limb vibration sensation threshold decreased in both groups after treatment, and the study group was lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05). The conduction velocity of the left/right common peroneal nerve and tibial nerve increased in both groups after treatment, and the study group was larger than that of the control group (P < 0.05). The bFGF, VEGF, and APN increased in both groups after treatment. VEGF and APN increased and IL-6 and TNF-α decreased in both groups after treatment, and the study group was better than the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion Infrared and methylcobalamin combined treatment of diabetic foot can effectively improve lower extremity nerve conduction velocity and vibration sensory threshold, regulate serum bFGF and VEGF levels, reduce the degree of inflammatory response, and help improve the overall treatment effect.

Correlation Between Hemoglobin Glycosylation Index and Nerve Conduction Velocity in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the relationship between hemoglobin glycation variation index (HGI) and peripheral nerve conduction velocity (NCV) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Materials and MethodsThis is a cross-sectional study, including 324 patients with T2DM were included in this study. Basic information and blood indicators were collected. The motor conduction velocities (MCV) of the bilateral ulnar nerve, median nerve, and common peroneal nerve, and the sensory conduction velocities (SCV) of the ulnar nerve, median nerve, and superficial peroneal nerve were measured. The patients were divided into two groups according to the NCV: normal nerve conduction group (NCVN group) and abnormal nerve conduction group (NCVA group). When the NCV is less than the specific normal value, the patients were divided into the NCVA group. HGI was calculated as the difference between the measured and predicted values of glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) using the linear relationship between HbA1c level and fasting plasma glucose levels. At last, all study participants were divided into High HGI and Low HGI groups using the median of HGI as the boundary. The study also analyzed the correlation between HGI and NCV.ResultsCompared to the NCVN group, the HGI levels of the NCVA group were higher (P < 0.001). The prevalence of NCVA in the high HGI group was higher than that in the low HGI group (P = 0.004). HGI was negatively correlated with bilateral ulnar nerve MCV, bilateral median nerve MCV, bilateral common peroneal nerve MCV, bilateral median nerve SCV and left superficial peroneal nerve SCV, and the correlation still existed after adjusting for confounding factors.ConclusionThis study found that HGI is inversely associated with NCV in patients with T2DM, and this correlation is higher between HGI and MCV of peripheral nerve.

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy. Current physical therapy treatment options show limited effects or low-quality evidence, especially in the long-term. To date, there has been little research to look at the effects of treating the cervical spine for decreasing symptoms distally to the carpal tunnel. So the aim of this study was to compare the effects of cervical manual therapy plus conventional physical therapy with conventional physiotherapy only in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Subjects. A group of 46 patients with CTS was randomly allocated into two groups: Cervical manual therapy plus conventional physiotherapy (n = 23), and conventional physiotherapy (n = 22). All patients received 10 sessions of supervised intervention treatment for 2 weeks. The efficacy of the therapies was assessed before initiation of therapy and after completion of therapy using a visual analog scale (VAS), a symptom severity scale, the functional capacity scale of the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ), functional status of DASH questionnaire, measurement of median nerve motor distal latency (mMDL) and median sensory nerve conduction velocity (mSNCV). Cervical manual therapy plus conventional physiotherapy group showed significantly greater improvement in VAS, DASH score, mMDL and mSNCV (p < 0.05) compared to the conventional group. There was no significant difference in BCTQ for two groups (p > 0.05). The analysis of the results showed that conventional physiotherapy combined with Cervical manual therapy could be more effective in improving the pain, functional abilities, median nerve motor distal latency and median sensory nerve conduction velocity of patients with CTS compared with conventional physiotherapy only.

Connecting Peripheral to Central Neuropathy: Examination of Nerve Conduction Combined with Olfactory Tests in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes.

AimFew studies have investigated the associations between diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and cognitive decline. Olfactory impairment is related to neurodegenerative diseases and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM); however, the cognitive alterations of patients with DPN and the role of olfactory function in DPN are not known. We explored alterations in cognition with DPN and the associations of neuropathy parameters with cognition and olfaction.MethodsHealthy controls (HCs) and patients with T2DM underwent nerve-conduction tests, detailed cognitive assessment, olfactory-behavior tests, and odor-induced functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). T2DM patients were divided into two groups (non-DPN [NDPN] and DPN). Olfactory brain regions showing different activation between the two groups were selected for functional connectivity (FC) analyses. A structural equation model (SEM) was also generated to demonstrate the association among cognition, olfactory, and neuropathy parameters.ResultsOne hundred individuals (36 HCs, 36 NDPN, and 28 DPN) were matched for age, sex, and educational level. Compared with the NDPN group, the DPN group had significantly lower scores for memory and processing speed, as well as lower olfactory identification and memory scores, decreased activation of the left frontal lobe, and reduced seed-based functional connectivity in the right insula. The nerve conduction velocity in patients with T2DM was associated with cognitive functions. The association between nerve conduction and executive function was mediated by olfactory behavior.ConclusionPatients with DPN had worse cognition than the NDPN patients in the domains of memory and processing speed. Cognitive dysfunction could be predicted by olfactory-behavior tests and electrophysiological examination.

Long-Term HbA1c, Physical Fitness, Nerve Conduction Velocities, and Quality of Life in Children with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus-A Pilot Study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine a possible association of HbA1c, quality of life (QoL), fitness, and electrophysiological parameters in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Methods: The study population (n = 34) consisted of patients with T1DM (n = 17) and an age-, sex-, and BMI-matched healthy control group (n = 17). HbA1c was obtained from patients with T1DM at time of diagnosis (T0), at 6 months (T6), at 12 months (T12), and at time of study inclusion (Tstudy). QoL was determined with a standardized questionnaire (KINDL-R). All children completed a 6-min walk test (6MWT) to evaluate their fitness level. Electrodiagnostic studies established upper and lower limb motor and sensory nerve conduction velocities (NCV). Results: Higher HbA1c (Tstudy) was associated with lower QoL showing in the subscales self-esteem, friends, and school. Higher HbA1c at (T6) and (T12) was associated with lower QoL in the subscale self-esteem. Based on various subscales, perceived problem areas differed significantly between children and their parents. No differences in fitness level and NCV were found between patients and controls except for a significantly slower median motor NCV in patients. HbA1c was not associated with NCVs at this early stage of disease. Conclusions: Good metabolic control reflected by adequate HbA1c values seems to be important for a good QoL in children with T1DM. Early HbA1c might be associated with QoL during follow-up.

Correlation Between Thioredoxin-Interacting Protein and Nerve Conduction Velocity in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Aims: To investigate the correlation between thioredoxin-interacting protein (TXNIP) and peripheral nerve conduction velocity (NCV) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods: In total, 338 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) were included in this study. We collected the clinical data and measured the motor conduction velocities of the bilateral ulnar nerve, median nerve, tibial nerve, and common peroneal nerve, and the sensory conduction velocities of the ulnar nerve, median nerve, sural nerve, and superficial peroneal nerve. According to the results, the patients were divided into two groups: normal peripheral nerve conduction group (NCVN group) and abnormal peripheral nerve conduction group (NCVA group). The two groups were then compared in terms of the conventional biochemical index and the sugar metabolic index as well as the serum levels of TXNIP, reduced glutathione (GSH), total superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α). The correlation between TXNIP and NCV was also analyzed.Results: Compared with the NCVN group, the TXNIP and MDA values were significantly increased in the NCVA group (P < 0.05). Among the patients with T2DM, age, fasting glucose, SDBG, and TXNIP were risk factors for NCV abnormality, while vitamin D3 was a protective factor. After adjusting for related confounding factors, TXNIP was significantly correlated with NCV (P < 0.05). Among the patients with T2DM, TXNIP was an independent risk factor for left ulnar motor conduction velocity (MCV), right ulnar MCV, left median MCV, and right median MCV. TNF-α was identified as a positive influencing factor for serum TXNIP, while serum TXNIP was a positive factor for TNF-α and MDA (both P < 0.05).Conclusion: Serum TXNIP is related to NCV in T2DM patients. In combination with oxidative stress and inflammation, TXNIP may affect diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).

The Association between Blood Glucose Control Measured with Serum Hna1c Level with Peroneal Motor Nerve Conduction Velocity in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus with Polyneuropathy

Background and Objective. The poor control of blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus is a major risk factor from various complications of diabetes mellitus, such as polyneuropathy. One of the nerves that are often affected in the case of diabetic neuropathy is the peroneal nerve. This study aimed to determine the association between blood glucose level control measured with serum hemoglobin A1c (HBA1c) levels with peroneal motor nerve conduction velocity in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with polyneuropathy. Methods. The study was conducted on diabetic neuropathy patients who fulfilled inclusion and exclusion criteria in neurology unit and diabetes unit Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya on a consecutive basis from February to July 2013. The serum HbA1c level and nerve conduction velocity in peroneal motor nerve were examined; then, the results were grouped into two groups which were serum HbA1c &lt;7% and ?7% and NCV in normal and low peroneal motor nerve Results. There were 26 subjects, consisting of 6 subjects with serum HbA1c &lt;7% and 20 subjects with serum HbA1c ? 7%. There was an association between blood glucose level control measured by serum HbA1c levels and NCV in peroneal motor nerve with statistical significance of p = 0.0018 (Odd ratio 15; 95% IK 1.397 - 161.045). Conclusion. There was an association between blood glucose level control measured by serum HbA1c levels with NCV in peroneal motor nerve in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with polyneuropathy

Effect of "Buqi Yixue" needling on neurological function and nerve conduction velocity in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy

To observe the efficacy of "Buqi Yixue "needling on clinical symptoms, neurological function and nerve conduction velocity in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Eighty-six patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy numbness and pain were equally randomized into control group and treatment group. The patients of the control group received basic treatment and oral administration of Cilostazol (50 mg/time, 2 times/d) and Epalrestat (50 mg/time, 3 times/d). The patients of the treatment group received acupuncture stimulation of Danzhong (CV17), Qihai (CV6), Pishu (BL20), Quchi (LI11), etc., for 30 min, once every day, on the basic treatment. The treatment was conducted for 8 successive weeks. The scores of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) symptoms, Toronto clinical scoring system (TCSS) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) were detected before and after the treatment. After the treatment, the scores of TCM symptoms and TCSS were considerably decreased (P<0.05), and the NCV was significantly increased (P<0.05) in both groups compared with those of their own pre-treatment. The the-rapeutic effect of the treatment group was significantly superior to that of the control group in lowering the scores of TCM symptoms and TCSS, and in up-regulating the NCV (P<0.01). "Buqi Yixue" needling is effective in improving clinical symptoms and increasing NCV in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Fasudil combined with methylcobalamin or lipoic acid can improve the nerve conduction velocity in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy: A meta-analysis.

Background:Fasudil (F) plus methylcobalamin (M) or lipoic acid (L) treatment has been suggested as a therapeutic approach for diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) in numerous studies. However, the effect of the combined use still remains dubious.Objective:The aim of this report was to evaluate the efficacy of F plus M or L (F + M or F + L) for the treatment of DPN compared with that of M or L monotherapy, respectively, in order to provide the basis and reference for clinical rational drug use.Methods:Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of F for DPN published up to September 2017 were searched. Relative risk (RR), mean difference (MD), and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated and heterogeneity was assessed with the I2 test. Sensitivity analyses were also performed. The outcomes measured were as follows: the clinical efficacy, median motor nerve conduction velocities (NCVs) (MNCVs), median sensory NCV (SNCV), peroneal MNCV, peroneal SNCV, and adverse effects.Results:Thirteen RCTs with 1148 participants were included. Clinical efficacy of F + M combination therapy was significantly better than M monotherapy (8 trials; RR 1.26, 95% CI 1.17–1.35, P < .00001, I2 = 0%), the efficacy of F + L combination therapy was also obviously better than L monotherapy (4 trials; RR 1.27, 95% CI 1.16–1.39, P < .00001, I2 = 0%). Compared with monotherapy, the pooled effects of combination therapy on NCV were (MD 6.69, 95% CI 4.74–8.64, P < .00001, I2 = 92%) for median MNCV, (MD 6.71, 95% CI 1.77–11.65, P = .008, I2 = 99%) for median SNCV, (MD 4.18, 95% CI 2.37–5.99, P < .00001, I2 = 94%) for peroneal MNCV, (MD 5.89, 95% CI 3.57–8.20, P < .00001, I2 = 95%) for peroneal SNCV. Furthermore, there were no serious adverse events associated with drug intervention.Conclusion:Combination therapy with F plus M or L was superior to M or L monotherapy for improvement of neuropathic symptoms and NCVs in DPN patients, respectively. Moreover, no serious adverse events occur in combination therapy.

Warming acupuncture combined with conventional acupuncture for diabetic peripheral neuropathy with syndrome of yang deficiency and cold coagulation, obstruction of collaterals and blood stasis

To compare the clinical efficacy differences between warming acupuncture and conventional acupuncture for diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) with syndrome of yang deficiency and cold coagulation, obstruction of collaterals and blood stasis. A total of 64 patients were randomly divided into a warming acupuncture group and a conventional acupuncture group, 32 cases in each one. Based on basic treatment of blood glucose regulation, warming acupuncture was applied at Pishu (BL 20), Shenshu (BL 23), Guanyuanshu (BL 26), Zusanli (ST 36), Chongyang (ST 42), Quchi (LI 11) and Hegu (LI 4) in the warming acupuncture group, while acupuncture was applied at the identical acupoints in the conventional acupuncture group. Both the treatments were given once a day with an interval of one day every six days; totally the treatment was given for 4 weeks. The TCM symptom score, Toronto clinical scoring system (TCSS) and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) before and after treatment were compared in the two groups. After treatment, the TCM symptom scores in the two groups were significantly reduced (both P<0.01); the improvement of TCM symptom in the warming acupuncture group was superior to that in the conventional acupuncture group (P<0.05). After treatment, the TCSS scores in the two groups were significantly reduced (both P<0.01); the TCSS score in the warming acupuncture group was significantly lower than that in the conventional acupuncture group (P<0.05). After treatment, the NCV of motor nerve of tibial nerve and nervus peroneus communis, as well as sensory nerve of tibial nerve and sural nerve was improved in the warming acupuncture group (all P<0.05), while only the NCV of motor nerve and sensory nerve of tibial nerve was improved in the conventional acupuncture group (both P<0.05); there were no significant difference between the two groups (all P>0.05). Warming acupuncture and conventional acupuncture could both increase TCM symptom score, improve NCV in patients of DPN with syndrome of yang deficiency and cold coagulation, obstruction of collaterals and blood stasis; warming acupuncture has advantage in symptom improvement.

Efficacy of epalrestat plus α-lipoic acid combination therapy versus monotherapy in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy: a meta-analysis of 20 randomized controlled trials.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efficacy of α-lipoic acid (ALA) plus epalrestat combination therapy in the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).DATA SOURCES:The electronic databases of PubMed, Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Library, the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, the Wanfang Database and the Chinese Biomedical Database were used to retrieve relevant studies without language restrictions. The search was conducted from the inception of each database to 7 October 2016. The key terms were (diabetic peripheral neuropathy or diabetic neuropathy or DPN) AND (α-lipoic acid or lipoic acid or thioctic acid) AND epalrestat.DATA SELECTION:All of the eligible studies met the following inclusion criteria: (1) Randomized controlled trials that compared efficacy and safety of epalrestat plus ALA combination therapy versus epalrestat or ALA monotherapy in patients with DPN. (2) The minimum duration of treatment was 2 weeks. (3) The DPN patients were diagnosed using the World Health Organization standardized type 2 diabetes mellitus and DPN criteria. (4) Studies contained at least one measure that could reflect the efficacy of the drug and nerve conduction velocities. Studies in which the control group used epalrestat or ALA combined with other drugs were excluded. Statistical analyses were performed using STATA software for meta-analysis.OUTCOME MEASURES:The primary outcomes were the therapeutic efficacy, median motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV), median sensory nerve conduction velocity (SNCV), peroneal MNCV and peroneal SNCV.RESULTS:Twenty studies with 1894 DPN patients were included, including 864 patients in the ALA plus epalrestat group, 473 in the ALA group and 557 in the epalrestat group. The efficacy of ALA plus epalrestat combination therapy was superior to ALA and epalrestat monotherapies (RR = 1.29, 95% CI: 1.21–1.38; RR = 1.43, 95% CI: 1.34–1.54, respectively). ALA plus epalrestat combination therapy also significantly improved median MNCV (WMD = 5.41, 95% CI: 2.07–8.75), median SNCV (WMD = 5.87, 95% CI: 1.52–10.22), peroneal MNCV (WMD = 5.59, 95% CI: 2.70–8.47) and peroneal SNCV (WMD = 4.57, 95% CI: 2.46–6.68).CONCLUSION:ALA plus epalrestat combination therapy was superior to ALA and epalrestat monotherapies for clinical efficacy and nerve conduction velocities in patients with DPN.

Tai Chi with mental imagery theory improves soleus H-reflex and nerve conduction velocity in patients with type 2 diabetes

ObjectivesDiabetes is a disease that leads to damage to the peripheral nerves which may eventually cause balance instability. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of 8 weeks of Tai Chi (TC) training combined with mental imagery (MI) on soleus H-reflex and nerve conduction velocity (NCV) of the sural and superficial peroneal nerves in people with diabetes. DesignsQuasi-experimental, one group pretest-posttest design. SettingHuman Research Laboratory. InterventionsA series of Yang style of Tai Chi classes with mental imagery, one hour, two sessions per week for 8 weeks was done. Main outcome measuresThe Activities-specific Balance Confidence (ABC) Scale, Functional Reach Test (FRT), and One Leg Standing Test (OLS) were measured as functional data. Hoffman reflex (H-reflex), and sural and superficial peroneal NCV were measured as main outcomes. ResultsAll functional outcomes measures were significantly improved after the intervention (p<0.01). In the H-reflex, there was a significant increase in amplitude (μV) after completing 8 weeks of TC exercise (p=0.02). In the sural nerve, the velocity (p=0.01), amplitude (p=0.01), and latency (p=0.01) were significantly improved between pre and post-test. In the superficial peroneal nerve, significant improvements were observed in (p=0.02) and latency (p=0.01), but not in amplitude (μV) (p>0.05). ConclusionsCombining TC intervention with MI theory showed an improvement in the H-reflex and NCV tests, which suggests improved balance and walking stability.

Background: Hypothyroidism is a clinical disorder due to the deficiency of thyroid hormone. This hormone is a key regulator of cellular metabolism in our body. Hypothyroid state is usually asymptomatic, symptoms in the early phase while associated with a number of symptoms later affecting skin, heart, endocrine, brain, and nerves. Hyperthyroidism is less commonly associated with neuromuscular disorders and polyneuropathy. Objective: The objective of the study was to assess motor nerve functions in thyroid dysfunction patients. Study Design: This study design was a comparative study. Population: The study population was clinically diagnosed thyroid dysfunction patients and healthy individuals. Sample Size: The sample size was 82 (41 each in cases and control group). Materials and Methods: Neuro Perfect 2 – Channel EMG NCV EP, Medicaid, instrument was used. Postoperative improvement in DASH score, clinical findings, and nerve conduction velocity in patients with cubital tunnel syndrome.

We investigated a recovery pattern in subjective and objective measures among 52 patients with cubital tunnel syndrome after anterior subcutaneous transposition of the ulnar nerve. Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score (primary outcome), numbness score, grip and pinch strength, Semmes-Weinstein (SW) score, static 2-point discrimination (2PD) score, and motor conduction velocity (MCV) stage were examined preoperatively and 1, 3, 6, 12, and ≥24 months postoperatively. Statistical analyses were conducted to evaluate how each variable improved after surgery. A linear mixed-effects model was used for continuous variables (DASH score, numbness, grip and pinch strength), and a proportional odds model was used for categorical variables (SW and 2PD tests and MCV stages). DASH score significantly improved by 6 months. Significant recovery in numbness and SW test scores occurred at 1 month. Grip and pinch strength, 2PD test scores, and MCV stage improved by 3 months. DASH scores and numbness recovered regardless of age, sex, or disease severity. It was still unclear if both subjective and objective measures improved beyond 1-year postoperatively. These data are helpful for predicting postoperative recovery patterns and tend to be most important for patients prior to surgery.
