This research investigates the regulatory and supervisory system for non-bank international remittance service providers within the applicable legal framework. Through a descriptive-analytical approach, this research explores legal protection mechanisms for consumers and the role of government institutions in ensuring compliance and protection of consumer interests and market stability. Data was collected through analysis of regulatory documents, literature, and interviews with experts in the financial industry. The research findings highlight challenges in implementing regulations, a lack of consumer awareness, and the need for technological innovation to strengthen monitoring and reporting of financial transactions. A Transdisciplinary Approach and Design Thinking Methodology: For Applications to Complex Problems and Energy Transition

In this paper, we outline a transdisciplinary approach and design thinking methodology (TADTM) to tackle complex problems. Our premise is that these problems need a fundamental understanding of technological solutions and those for human interactions, business operations, financing, socioeconomic governance, legislation, and regulations. They must be approached by different decisionmakers from different disciplines to establish seamless interactions and structured teamwork. In this regard, we emphasize the need for a transdisciplinary framework that accounts for personal preferences based on human behavior as well as the traditional interdisciplinary frameworks. To test and prove our hypothesis, three case studies are discussed. Case Study 1 is based on our studies at a major medical establishment, and Case Study 2 is about the integrated engineering and architecture approach we used at our university campus. Case Study 3 is based on an ongoing project to lead industrial corporations to change their energy policies with practical energy efficiency measures and by adapting renewable/alternative energy adaptations for their operations. Developing creative solutions and strategies to decrease atmospheric greenhouse gas emissions requires such an energy transition framework and should involve every person, company, entity, and all governments. It can only be achieved with efforts on both local and global levels, which needs to convince (a) industries to change their traditional operation modalities, (b) people to alter their consumption behaviors, and (c) governments to change their rules, regulations, and incentives. The complexity and magnitude of this enormous task demand the coordination and collaboration of all stakeholders, as well as the need for technological innovations.

Digitalization of Sanja Village Vegetation Conservation Through 360° Virtual Exploration to Support Smart Eco-Tourism Development in the Tosari Area

Tosari Village is one of the tourist support villages in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) area and has a tourist village known as Sanja Village. Sanja Village tourism is a form of ecological conservation, which utilizes the potential of the land with the presence of various vegetation supporting the land which is arranged and this potential is used as an ecotourism area. Based on survey results, observations and interviews with Sanja Desa managers, it is clear that there are still shortcomings in packaging content and tourism branding in the current digital era. So in this case there is a need for technological innovation that is in line with tourism trends, one of which is Virtual Exploration which is able to fully explore tourist destinations virtually. The development of virtual exploration is able to build smart eco-tourism in Sanja village. The development stages in this research start from planning, preparation, implementation and reporting. Through virtual exploration of vegetation conservation, Sanja Desa is able to support the development of smart ecotourism in Tosari village. The development of virtual exploration is a form of digitalization by exploring the diversity of vegetation conservation, ecology and culture in 360°, capable of creating a tourist experience that is realistic to visit before Sanja Village. The digitalization of Sanja village ecotourism is able to create sustainable development of Tosari village.

Participatory action research method of drinking water supply framework innovation for local indigenous community in Indonesia

Lake Sentani in Kameyakha Village, Ebungfau District, Jayapura Regency, Papua Province, Indonesia, is recognized as a primary source for 45 households. Despite the historical significance, both the quality and quantity have not met water standards, underscoring the need for technological innovation. Therefore, this research aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Participatory Action Research (PAR) method through outreach strategies, as well as program implementation, monitoring, and program assessment carried out by the local indigenous community of Kameyakha Village. Data were gathered using observational methods, interviews, and focus group discussions (FGD). The results showed that PAR could solve the problem faced in Kameyaka Village by enabling collaboration between stakeholders and community.

MHealth Self-Monitoring Model for Medicine Adherence of Patients With Diabetes in Resource-Limited Countries: Structural Equation Modeling Approach.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to serious challenges and emphasized the importance of using technology for health care operational transformation. Consequently, the need for technological innovations has increased, thus empowering patients with chronic conditions to tighten their adherence to medical prescriptions. This study aimed to develop a model for a mobile health (mHealth) self-monitoring system for patients with diabetes in rural communities within resource-limited countries. The developed model could be based on the implementation of a system for the self-monitoring of patients with diabetes to increase medical adherence. This study followed a quantitative approach, in which data were collected from health care providers using a questionnaire with close-ended questions. Data were collected from district hospitals in 3 South African provinces that were selected based on the prevalence rates of diabetes and the number of patients with diabetes treated. The collected data were analyzed using smart partial least squares to validate the model and test the suggested hypotheses. Using variance-based structural equation modeling that leverages smart partial least squares, the analysis indicated that environmental factors significantly influence all the independent constructs that inform patients' change of behavior toward the use of mHealth for self-monitoring of medication adherence. Technology characteristics such as effort expectancy, self-efficacy, and performance expectancy were equally significant; hence, their hypotheses were accepted. In contrast, the contributions of culture and social aspects were found to be insignificant, and their hypotheses were rejected. In addition, an analysis was conducted to determine the interaction effects of the moderating variables on the independent constructs. The results indicated that with the exception of cultural and social influences, there were significant interacting effects on other independent constructs influencing mHealth use for self-monitoring. On the basis of the findings of this study, we conclude that behavioral changes are essential for the self-monitoring of chronic diseases. Therefore, it is important to enhance those effects that stimulate the behavior to change toward the use of mHealth for self-monitoring. Motivational aspects were also found to be highly significant as they triggered changes in behavior. The developed model can be used to extend the research on the self-monitoring of patients with chronic conditions. Moreover, the model will be used as a basic architecture for the implementation of fully fledged systems for self-monitoring of patients with diabetes.

This study aims to provide basic data for successful issue management by looking at issues surrounding energy policy macroscopically and collectively and checking changes in issues by period. Text mining techniques, including topic modeling, were used to analyze issues by period and characteristics of each issue, changes in common issues, and connection to the meaning of issues. As a result of the analysis, there were differences in contents, but the “direction” of the policy showed a high rate of appearance at all times, and issues related to nuclear power plants were flowing in two branches along with the direction. In addition, the need for technological innovation is emphasized as a countermeasure, and discussions on regional-led energy transition have begun in earnest in the central government. In addition, it was found that potential issues such as jobs, energy welfare, and conflict exist. In addition, policy suggestions and limitations of the research were described.

Initial Outcomes of Physician-Modified Inner Branched Endovascular Repair in High-Surgical-Risk Patients.

To report the initial outcomes of physician-modified inner branched endovascular repair (PMiBEVAR) for pararenal aneurysms (PRAs), thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs), and aortic arch aneurysms in high-surgical-risk patients. A total of 10 patients (6 men; median age, 83.0 years) treated using PMiBEVAR were enrolled in this retrospective, single-center study. All patients were at high surgical risk because of severe comorbidities (American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status score≥3 or emergency repair). End points were defined as technical success per patient and per vessel (successful deployment), clinical success (no endoleaks postoperatively), in-hospital death, and major adverse events. There were 3 PRAs, 4 TAAAs, and 3 aortic arch aneurysms with 12 renal-mesenteric arteries and 3 left subclavian arteries incorporated by inner branches. The technical success rate was 90.0% (9/10) per patient and 93.3% (14/15) per vessel. The clinical success rate was 90% (9/10). There were 2 in-hospital deaths, unrelated to aneurysms. Paraplegia and shower emboli occurred separately in 2 patients. Three patients experienced prolonged ventilation for 3 days after surgery. Aneurysm sac shrinkage occurred in 4 patients, and aneurysm size stabilized in 1 patient during follow-up, more than 6 months later. None of the patients required intervention. PMiBEVAR is a feasible approach for treating complex aneurysms in high-surgical-risk patients. This technology may complement the existing technology in terms of improved anatomical adaptability, no time delay and practicability in many countries. However, long-term durability remains undetermined. Further large-scale and long-term studies are needed. This is the first clinical study to investigate outcomes of physician-modified inner branched endovascular repair (PMiBEVAR). PMiBEVAR for treating pararenal aneurysm, thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm, or aortic arch aneurysm is a feasible procedure. This technology is likely to complement existing technology in terms of improved anatomical adaptability (compared to off-the-shelf devices), no time delay (compared to custom-made devices), and the potential to be performed in many countries. On the other hand, surgery time varied greatly depending on the case, suggesting a learning curve and the need for technological innovation to perform more consistent surgeries.

Piezo/Triboelectric Nanogenerator from Lithium-Modified Zinc Titanium Oxide Nanofibers to Monitor Contact in Sports

The need for technological innovation in competitive sports is crucial for self-monitoring and smart decision making. In this work, we demonstrate how intelligent sports and smart decision making can be achieved in cricket and boxing using lithium-modified zinc titanium oxide (LZTO) nanofibers based on piezoelectric nanogenerators (PENGs) and triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs). Zinc titanium oxide (ZTO) nanofibers synthesized using electrospinning followed by a calcination technique are modified with lithium to increase the output of the nanogenerator. An optimized PENG is fabricated using 25 wt % loading of LZTO (d33 = 214 pm/V) in a poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix as a double-layered structure and yields an open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 35 V and a short-circuit current (Isc) of 1.6 μA by manual tapping. To fabricate the TENG, Kapton and LZTO are used as negative and positive tribolayers, while Cu and adhesive polymer tape are used as the electrode and spacer, respectively. Furthermore, a hybrid nanogenerator (HNG) is fabricated by combining the PENG and TENG to produce a rectified voltage, current, and power density of up to 75 V, 3.2 μA, and 240 μW/cm2, respectively. These HNGs are integrated with a punching bag and demonstrated to differentiate among the six types of punches in boxing. Furthermore, PENGs are used in cricket to monitor the number of balls middled on the bat during practice and the contact of the ball with the bat and stumps for smart decision making. All kinds of lab-scale testing are done for these applications, which pave a way for exploring the frontiers in nanogenerator applications in sports as maintenance-free and self-powered sensing technology.

Comparison and Analysis of Three Different Power Generation Methods under the Context of Dual Carbon Goals

Traditional thermal power generation is characterized by mature technology, wide application, and high carbon emissions. Under the context of dual carbon goals, there is an urgent need for technological innovation in decarbonization. This paper aims to systematically analyze and compare three power generation methods, namely coal-fired power generation by steam turbines, power generation by natural gas turbines and fuel cell power generation. An outlook for future power generation technologies is presented at the end.

A long trip into the universe: Psychedelics and space travel

Prolonged periods in space have potentially deleterious physiological and psychological effects. Ensuring the physical health and mental well-being of astronauts will inevitably supersede the need for technological innovation, as the major challenge in long-duration space travel. We propose a role for psychedelics (psychoactive fungal, plant, and animal molecules that cause alterations in perception, mood, behavior, and consciousness) and in particular psychedelic mushrooms to facilitate extended sojourns in space. Psychedelics research is in the midst of a renaissance and psychedelics are being explored not only for their therapeutic potential in psychiatry but also for their ability to promote neuroplasticity, modulate the immune system and reduce inflammation. Psychedelics may be to long-duration space travel in the 21st century, what citrus fruits were to long-distance sea travel in the 18th century—breakthrough and facilitatory. The human intergalactic experience is just beginning and it would be wise to consider the benefits of ensuring that astronauts undertaking potentially perilous space voyages benefit from our planet’s rich psychedelic heritage. There is also some justification for considering the application of psychedelics in the processing and integration of the profound and spiritual experience of deep space travel.

Right to Informational Privacy in India: Shift from Property Right to Property Rule

Abstract In today’s technological landscape, marked by continuous flow of data, it is difficult to think of data in terms of property rights, based on ownership. This is because data principals are almost always excluded from this ownership right and associated gains. With a specific focus on the Indian context, this paper analyses the framing of right to informational privacy and the issues associated with the same. It then goes on to suggest, the framing of this right using the option theory of legal entitlements instead of as a property right. The paper acknowledges the limitations of this theory, however emphasises that this theory is crucial to engage in a discourse which signifies a shift from associating data with property rights. It also has practical utility to arrive at more economically efficient models which take into consideration the data principal’s right as well as the need for technological innovation.

DEMYSTIFYING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF FLEXIBLE LEARNING STRATEGIES ON INFORMATION SYSTEMS STUDENTS AMIDST THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC

Many countries worldwide are affected, and there is a fear of losing this whole enduring semester or even more in the coming future. Flexible learning state of being in which learning and teaching are gradually autonomous since the boundaries of the time, place, and study pace are limited. The students enrolled within the Bachelor of Science in Information Systems (BSIS) program in Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) in the first semester of 2020-2021 are the main target of this study in how they follow and adapt the new-normal way of delivering instructional materials. This study used the quantitative approach under the descriptive research design method with the survey questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. Data gathering was done through the use of questionnaires in the form of an online survey. The total population size of prospective respondents qualified in this study 226 students from Davao del Norte State College, Panabo City during the academic year 2020-2021 amid a pandemic enrolled in the program of BSIS. The coherent response to higher education dynamics, such as the need for technological innovation to adapt flexible learning. Relying on its resilient and innovative spirit, DNSC finds ways to continue delivering its essential new way of giving academic quality to the scholars. Flexible learning uses online and offline modalities and allows completion of scholars learning off-campus. Based on the findings, it can be assumed that the respondents, the Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), the current status of BSIS students are equipped with needed technologies and adjusted to flexible learning. Application of Smart Oven Technology as an Effort to Increase Smoked Egg Production and Quality in Sania MSME

Mitra Home salted egg industry SANIA MSME is an MSME that engages in duck cultivation and the production of Smoked Salted Eggs. SANIA MSME was founded by a duck breeder group in 2008 in Kawedusan Ponggok Village, Blitar. Smoked salted eggs are known for their burnt/smoky aroma and greasy egg yolks. Smoked egg production is done manually using the use of smoking drums. These manual devices are only capable of baking 150 grains per day. Meanwhile, damage due to smoking with an oven drum can reach up to 15-20%. This can reduce profits by up to 20% per cycle of the smoking process. Damage occurs when users forget or are too late to lower the drum oven's temperature before it reaches temperatures of 1000C or more. The uneven heat can also result in a reduction to taste and greasiness of the egg yolks. Manual ovens take 7-10 hours at 80-900C to cook. From discussions with partners, it was discovered that they needed egg smoking ovens that feature thermoregulators and can produce even flows of smoke automatically. There is a need for technological innovation in the egg fumigation equipment category in the form of smart egg smoking ovens complete with thermoregulators and automatic smoke airflow systems. Smart ovens have the potential to increase productivity by 75% with a faster smoking process of 3-4 hours. The service method was carried out by way of producing a design for smart ovens, socialization and assistance in the use of the device, assistance in the production of smoked eggs, and program evaluation. The results of the mentoring activity suggested that the production of smoked eggs can increase by 70% with the level of cooking damage sitting at less than 10% and an improvement in the product's taste.

Analytical prediction of heat capacity of molten AgCl and CuCl with application to thermochemical Cu-Cl cycle for hydrogen production

To sustain our power-dependent world, there is a need for technological innovation in all aspects of science and engineering. Many times, thermophysical and material properties are not well defined for the specific application, which leads to implementing assumptions and approximations from the published data. In the thermochemical copper-chlorine (Cu-Cl) cycle for hydrogen (H2) production, heat is recovered from cuprous chloride (CuCl) molten salt and it is then reacted with hydrochloric acid (HCl) in stoichiometric proportions to produce the anolyte for the H2 production step of the cycle. However, the lack of precise thermophysical properties on CuCl heavily hinders the detailed investigations of heat recovery from the molten salt as it cools from 450 °C to 90 °C. In this paper a new method is developed to determine the thermophysical property of CuCl and silver chloride (AgCl) as the molten salts are changing phases to solid. This is achieved by correlating electrochemistry data with thermal data. A model that predicts the specific heat capacity during phase change process is developed based on the existing electromotive force (EMF) and thermal data from literature. Developed model shows the EMF derived specific heat capacity values of AgCl and CuCl are similar with a slight offset since they have similar EMF's at higher temperatures.

Cardiovascular Disease and Medication Adherence Among Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in an Underserved Community

Optimal management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (Type 2 DM) is impeded by widespread nonadherence to efficacious medication regimens. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most common cause of morbidity and mortality among persons with Type 2 DM. In this work we evaluated the relationship between CVD and medication adherence to antihypertensives, oral hypoglycemic agents, and antidepressants among patients with Type 2 DM. We also sought to understand how patients perceived barriers to and facilitators of adherence to medications. Adherence to medications was measured in 72 primary care patients from the West Philadelphia area using electronic monitoring (Medication Event Monitoring System caps) over 12 weeks. Standard questions assessed the presence of CVD. Participants answered open-ended questions about barriers to and facilitators of medication adherence. Participants who had CVD were significantly less likely to achieve ≥80% adherence to an antidepressant, oral hypoglycemic agent, and antihypertensive medications at 12 weeks. Participants identified four themes related to medication adherence: Interference from Psychosocial Demands, Need for Technological Innovation, Awareness of Disease Severity, and Integrating Community Linkages. Interventions to improve medication adherence among persons with Type 2 DM in underserved communities may aim to address social determinants of health, create community linkages, emphasize disease severity and utilize apps which are integrated with existing primary care services.

Current Developments in Digital Quantitative Volume Estimation for the Optimisation of Dietary Assessment.

Obesity is a global health problem with wide-reaching economic and social implications. Nutrition surveillance systems are essential to understanding and addressing poor dietary practices. However, diets are incredibly diverse across populations and an accurate diagnosis of individualized nutritional issues is challenging. Current tools used in dietary assessment are cumbersome for users, and are only able to provide approximations of dietary information. Given the need for technological innovation, this paper reviews various novel digital methods for food volume estimation and explores the potential for adopting such technology in the Southeast Asian context. We discuss the current approaches to dietary assessment, as well as the potential opportunities that digital health can offer to the field. Recent advances in optics, computer vision and deep learning show promise in advancing the field of quantitative dietary assessment. The ease of access to the internet and the availability of smartphones with integrated cameras have expanded the toolsets available, and there is potential for automated food volume estimation to be developed and integrated as part of a digital dietary assessment tool. Such a tool may enable public health institutions to be able to gather an effective nutritional insight and combat the rising rates of obesity in the region.

Potential Policy Issues with Flying Car Technology

Flying-car concept is a desirable concept to ease traffic congestion that exists in various parts of the globe. While flying cars has various advantages including reduced cost of building and maintaining traditional roadways, reduced reliance on road infrastructures, increased reliability of travel times, and reduced congestion, potential challenges with this technology can make it undesirable, if adequate planning, and technological implementations to ensure safety of people both on land and in the air, is not ensured. This report evaluates some potential advantages and challenges with flying-car technology, and proposed ways to address these challenges. Before flying-car technology is approved on a large scale, among other things, this report discussed the need to ensure appropriate tracking systems for flying cars, the need to ensure adequate law enforcement systems to control misuse of the technology, the need for technological innovations to minimize the impact of any mechanical faults or accidents on both the occupants of the flying-car, and people on the ground, and the need to ensure mandatory collision avoidance technology systems for flying cars. It is hoped that this report will generate more interest in researching ways by which this technology can be harnessed in a beneficial way for humanity.

Satellite Salinity Observing System: Recent Discoveries and the Way Forward

Advances in L-band microwave satellite radiometry in the past decade, pioneered by ESA's SMOS and NASA's Aquarius and SMAP missions, have demonstrated an unprecedented capability to observe global sea surface salinity (SSS) from space. Measurements from these missions are the only means to probe the very-near surface salinity (top cm), providing a unique monitoring capability for the interfacial exchanges of water between the atmosphere and the upper-ocean, and delivering a wealth of information on various salinity processes in the ocean, linkages with the climate and water cycle, including land-sea connections, and providing constraints for ocean prediction models. The satellite SSS data are complimentary to the existing in situ systems such as Argo that provide accurate depiction of large-scale salinity variability in the open ocean but under-sample mesoscale variability, coastal oceans and marginal seas, and energetic regions such as boundary currents and fronts. In particular, salinity remote sensing has proven valuable to systematically monitor the open oceans as well as coastal regions up to approximately 40 km from the coasts. This is critical to addressing societally relevant topics, such as land-sea linkages, coastal-open ocean exchanges, research in the carbon cycle, near-surface mixing, and air-sea exchange of gas and mass. In this paper, we provide a community perspective on the major achievements of satellite SSS for the aforementioned topics, the unique capability of satellite salinity observing system and its complementarity with other platforms, uncertainty characteristics of satellite SSS, and measurement versus sampling errors in relation to in situ salinity measurements. We also discuss the need for technological innovations to improve the accuracy, resolution, and coverage of satellite SSS, and the way forward to both continue and enhance salinity remote sensing as part of the integrated Earth Observing System in order to address societal needs.

Internal factors supporting business and technological transformation in the context of Industry 4.0

Radical changes resulting from the Fourth Industrial Revolution strongly affect industrialized European countries. In particular, due to the new technologies that are characteristic of Industry 4.0, it will be essential for companies to make the necessary changes and achieve competitiveness through the implementation of these technologies. In order for companies to be able to make radical changes and innovations, they need to secure all the supporting areas in their organization. This research paper is focused on comparison of companies from Slovakia, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany and Switzerland in the context of readiness for Industry 4.0. This research was part of a research project, while data were collected in the period of 2015–2016. We have analysed companies from selected countries based on 7 areas which are closely interconnected with the business transformation and technology transformation coming from Industry 4.0. The main analysed questions focused on areas such as employee education and training, organizational culture, strategy, or organizational processes, that will be most affected by radical changes in the environment. Research has highlighted the differences between countries as a result of long-standing cultural differences, but at the same time identified the unified influence of the ongoing global debate on the need for technological innovation. With Slovak and Czech companies being below stronger innovators in the maturity of education systems, we strongly advise considering partnering in education which can bring valuable information to businesses that want to take on the wave of innovation.
