Scalable fabrication of collagen fiber-waterborne polyurethane foams with enhanced toughness and thermal insulation by constructing energy dissipation networks

Natural fiber-based foams demonstrate outstanding potential for energy-efficient building and personal protective equipment applications due to their lightweight, high porosity, and sustainability. However, the weak interfacial interaction among fibers, functional additives, and the matrix hampers effective stress dissipation, largely affecting the material performance. Herein, this paper demonstrates a facile strategy for fabricating high-performance collagen fiber-based foams by constructing efficient energy dissipation networks using tannin-modified leather collagen fibers (T-LCF) and waterborne polyurethane (WPU). Tannin acts as a coupling bridge, linking the fiber and polyurethane to create a hydrogen-bonded network, enhancing energy dissipation and imparting excellent mechanical properties. Compared to WPU foam (WPUF), the T-LCF-based foam (WPUF/T-LCF) showed 65%, 34 times, and 35% improvements in tensile strength, compressive strength, and ultimate oxygen index, respectively. This study provides new insights into the cleaner production of high-performance natural fiber-based foam composites and a new way for the high-value utilization of collagen solid waste.

Experimental evaluation of bamboo natural fiber composite reinforced with SiO2 nanoparticles for aircraft applications

Purpose Composite materials have revolutionized the aerospace industry by offering superior structural qualities over traditional elements. This study aims to focus on the development and testing of bamboo natural fiber-based composites enhanced with SiO2 nanoparticles. Design/methodology/approach The investigation involved fabricating specimens with varying nanoparticle compositions (0, 10 and 20%) and conducting tensile, flexural, impact and fracture toughness tests. Results indicated significant improvements in mechanical properties with the addition of nanoparticles, particularly at a 10% composition level. Findings This study underscores the potential of natural fiber composites, highlighting their environmental friendliness, cost-effectiveness and improved structural properties when reinforced with nanoparticles. The findings suggest an optimal ratio for nanoparticle integration, emphasizing the critical role of precise mixing proportions in achieving superior composite performance. Originality/value The tensile strength, flexural strength, impact resistance and fracture toughness exhibited notable enhancements compared with the 0 and 20% nanoparticle compositions. The 10% composition showed the most promising outcomes, showcasing increased strength across all parameters.

Machinability investigation of natural fibers reinforced polymer matrix composite under drilling: Leveraging machine learning in bioengineering applications

The growing demand for fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) in industrial applications has prompted the exploration of natural fiber-based composites as a viable alternative to synthetic fibers. Using jute–rattan fiber-reinforced composite offers the potential for environmentally sustainable waste material decomposition and cost reduction compared to conventional fiber materials. This article focuses on the impact of different machining constraints on surface roughness and delamination during the drilling process of the jute–rattan FRP composite. Inspired by this unexplored research area, this article emphasizes the influence of various machining constraints on surface roughness and delamination in drilling jute–rattan FRP composite. Response surface methodology designs the experiment using drill bit material, spindle speed, and feed rate as input variables to measure surface roughness and delamination factors. The technique of order of preference by similarity to the ideal solution method is used to optimize the machining parameters, and for predicting surface roughness and delamination, two machine learning-based models named random forest (RF) and support vector machine (SVM) are utilized. To evaluate the accuracy of the predicted values, the correlation coefficient (R2), mean absolute percentage error, and mean squared error were used. RF performed better in comparison with SVM, with a higher value of R2 for both testing and training datasets, which is 0.997, 0.981, and 0.985 for surface roughness, entry delamination, and exit delamination, respectively. Hence, this study presents an innovative methodology for predicting surface roughness and delamination through machine learning techniques.

Investigation on the potential of Eulaliopsis binata (babiyo) as a sustainable fiber reinforcement for mortar and concrete

The production of synthetic materials emits harmful gases, driving researchers to seek eco-friendly alternatives, leading to increased demand for natural fiber-based composites in various industries. With advantages like cost-effectiveness, renewability, and biodegradability, natural fiber reinforced composites gain popularity in concrete applications. Their use in concrete has gained global acceptance for its smaller carbon footprint, reduced energy consumption, and minimized wastage. This research aims to evaluate the suitability of Eulaliopsis binata (EB) fiber in mortar and concrete applications. Mortar samples were prepared using different proportions of alkaline-treated EB fibers (0%, 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75%, 1% and 1.25% by total weight of mortar) in a cement-sand-water mixture with a 1:1:0.35 ratio. Additionally, concrete with a mix proportion of 1:2.15:3.13 (cement: fine aggregate: coarse aggregate) and a water-cement ratio of 0.618 was prepared. The flexural strength test was conducted using plain concrete as well as concrete with untreated and epoxy-treated EB fiber bars of varying diameters. The results revealed that EB fiber-reinforced mortar exhibited a notable increase in flexural and splitting tensile strength, with a 10.85% and 6.23% improvement compared to plain mortar at 0.75% EB fiber content, while compressive strength decreased. Similarly, concrete reinforced with untreated and epoxy-coated EB fiber bars of 14 mm diameter demonstrated 12.32% and 13.27% higher flexural strength, respectively, than that of unreinforced concrete. These results highlight the potential for affordable green concrete production, supporting sustainable infrastructure development. The EB fiber usage presents an encouraging pathway for environmentally conscious construction practices with reduced environmental impact.

Effect of elastomeric filler content on the acoustic and mechanical response of natural fiber-based hybrid composites

The environmental threat of discarded tires needs to be addressed through alternative applications with the enormous increase in the global vehicle population. When tire rubber particles are combined with environmentally friendly, and biodegradable natural fibers in polymer composites, such materials have a lot of potential for use in a variety of applications of insulating structures. The current work explores the effect of adding waste tire rubber particles (TRP) to natural fiber-based hybrid composites, on mechanical and acoustic properties and investigate the possibility of a potential insulating structural material. Tire rubber particles were employed as fillers and chopped banana fibers as reinforcing fibers (particle size less than 400 μ\\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \\usepackage{amsmath} \\usepackage{wasysym} \\usepackage{amsfonts} \\usepackage{amssymb} \\usepackage{amsbsy} \\usepackage{mathrsfs} \\usepackage{upgreek} \\setlength{\\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \\begin{document}$$\\upmu$$\\end{document}m) with epoxy resin as the matrix in this work. Five compositions were formulated in which the TRP content was varied from 0 to 36 wt.%, compensating for the fiber wt.%. The different compositions prepared by compression molding technique were subjected to compressive, impact, and acoustic characterization. In the natural fiber composites, the compressive strength was observed to dip with increase in TRP content while impact strength was found to rise till 15 wt.% TRP content. Beyond 15 wt.% TRP fillers, the impact strength and brittleness declined. The optimal acoustic response in terms of the sound transmission loss was observed for the composition with 15 wt.% TRP fillers. Polymer composites with natural fiber reinforcing and elastomeric fillers create excellent interior lining materials for buildings, automobiles, and aircrafts, because of their superior mechanical properties and acoustic proofing.

Mechanical and tribological behavior of pineapple leaf and kenaf fiber reinforced vinyl ester hybrid composites

The modern world demands the implementation of natural fiber-based polymer composites over synthetic fiber composites due to their eco-friendly nature, abundant availability, competing strength, economical favorability, and lightweight quality. In this present investigation, varied combinations of hybrid pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) and kenaf fiber-reinforced vinyl ester composites were fabricated by compression molding technique. The physical properties, mechanical properties, and tribological behavior were experimentally analyzed and reported. The physical properties, such as theoretical density, experimental density, and porosity percentage are evaluated and studied. Statistical mechanical tests such as tensile, flexural, compression, microhardness, and impact study are also evaluated possibly. Tribological behavior was simply studied by pin-on-disc tribometer apparatus under dry sliding conditions, and its specific wear rate and coefficient of friction were determined and analyzed. The morphological features of the tensile fractured samples and worn surfaces of the wear-tested specimen were analyzed by using a scanning electron microscope and its effects were investigated. From the results reported, it was claimed that the 20PALF/20KF/60VE sample was getting higher mechanical properties of 51% increased tensile strength, 55% flexural strength, 41.5% compression strength, 52% impact results, and 52% increased harness value compared to the neat resin sample. Overall results state that the hybridized combinations of PALF and kenaf fibers reinforced composites attained good mechanical and tribological properties and appear promising for printed circuit board and electrical switchboard applications.

Investigation of viscoelastic behavior of Abaca-reinforced epoxy composites

Natural fiber-based composites demonstrate excellent and comparable static and dynamic mechanical properties to conventional materials, such as steel and aluminum. They also extend their applications to aeronautical, sports equipment, and marine fields. This experimental study aims to find the effect of untreated and treated Abaca-reinforced epoxy composites on the viscoelastic behavior and the optimum combinations of fiber and resin to produce better bonding efficiency. The different specimens used for this study were pure epoxy, untreated, and chemically treated composite specimens. The four weight percentages of Abaca fibers are 10%, 20%, 30%, and 40% used to prepare composite specimens. Similarly, four different sodium hydroxide (NaOH) concentrations, 4, 6, 8, and 10 wt. %/vol. %, have been used for the chemical treatment of fibers. The storage modulus of Abaca-reinforced epoxy composite specimen has been investigated with respect to temperature and fiber content. The result shows that the 30% weight fraction of fibers with chemically (8 wt. %/vol. %) treated fiber-reinforced epoxy specimen produces 41.67% higher storage modulus than the 10% weight fraction of fibers content of composite specimens. Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) broad transmittance has been used to distinguish the raw and chemically treated fibers. FTIR results reveal the removal of functional groups after NaOH treatment.

Nano-clay treatment of jute fiber for reinforcement in polymer composites: Mechanical, morphological, and thermo-kinetic analysis

Natural fibers have demonstrated exceptional properties that can be utilized as a viable and environmentally reliable material for reinforcement in polymer composites replacing their synthetic counterparts creating numerous environmental problems. Jute fiber is a prominent natural fiber that has been successfully applied for manufacturing noble natural fiber-based composites. This article describes the advantages and comparison between two surface treatment techniques that is alkali treatment and nano-clay treatment of jute fiber to enhance the properties for producing improved composite material. FTIR, SEM, AFM, and TGA have been utilized to compare and study how different surface treatment methods affect jute fiber. Isoconversional methods FWO and KAS are applied for the thermos-kinetic analysis and evaluation of activation energy of thermal decomposition. More than 30% increase in peak activation energy has been observed (120 KJ/mole to 160 KJ/mol). Alkali–nano-clay treated jute fiber exhibits nearly 32% improvement (405 MPa to 535 MPa) in tensile strength, 24% increment (11.85 GPa to 14.69 GPa) in tensile modulus, and 15% improvement (1.4 gm/cm3 to 1.61 gm/cm3) in fiber density as compared to that of untreated jute fiber. This study validates that nano-clay treatment has shown promising results and can improve the overall properties of natural fibers significantly.

The Behavior of Banyan (B)/Banana (Ba) Fibers Reinforced Hybrid Composites Influenced by Chemical Treatment on Tensile, Bending and Water Absorption Behavior: An Experimental and FEA Investigation

Natural fiber-based composites are highly prioritized in present industries due to their properties and benefits over synthetic fibers. Due to their biodegradable nature, banyan and banana fibers were used for the present work. This paper deals with an experimental and FEA investigation of the tensile and bending behavior of banyan (B) and banana (Ba)-reinforced composites with different volume fractions, such as 25B/25Ba, 30B/20Ba, and 35B/15Ba, with a 50% weight fraction of epoxy resin and different fiber orientations. The hybrid composites treated with a 5% NaOH solution have better results as compared to untreated hybrid composites, with a volume fraction of 30% banyan fibers and 20% banana fiber (30B/20Ba), giving greater tensile and flexural properties for both treated and untreated fiber composites when compared to other volume fraction composites at 0/0/0/0 orientation. The maximum tensile and bending strength was found in the 30B/20Ba volume fractions to be 63.37 MPa and 67.07 MPa, respectively. For treated fiber composites, water absorption increases with an increase in the duration of immersion in composites up to 144 h.

Experimental Study on Mechanical Behaviour of Arhar-Reinforced Composites using GRA with PCA

The fiber composite plays a vital role in various applications in the current scenario. Natural fibers provide the desired advantages over synthetic fibers. Fiber composites deliver the exploration of durable, degradable, and lightweight materials. In several industrial sectors, transportation of materials from one place to another place is required. Materials like thermocoal boxes and iron boxes are inefficient in strength, weight, and cost. In order to overcome these, natural fiber-based composites, which give both strength and durability with low weight and cost, are chosen. This work explains the sample preparation using Arhar powder with an addition of reinforcements using the hand lay-up method by obeying the ASTM standards. To analyze the performance of the sample specimen, properties evaluated like Compression, Flexural, and other tests were conducted. GRA (Grey-Relational Analysis) with PCA (Principal-Component Analysis) was employed to carry out the most significant parameters, the most significant factor, and the weights of optimal parameters. Based on the output responses, it is experiential that the most effective parameter and best combination factor at Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS-4%), Guar Gum (8%), and Carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC-8%) with the values of 83.12 MPa compression strength, 61.70 MPa tensile strength and 0.249 joules of Impact strength.

Numerical study on the design of flax/bamboo fiber reinforced hybrid composites under bending load

Natural fiber-based composites are essential for the environment in this era of depletion of petroleum resources and for new green environmental rules, as they have limited detrimental behavior or response against the environment. In this paper, firstly, the suitability of replacing glass fiber with natural bamboo fiber in a flax/glass/epoxy hybrid composite under a fixed bending load is investigated using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software ABAQUS with proper model validation. Finally, five different lay-up sequences of flax/bamboo/epoxy hybrid composite laminate for fixed volume fractions of flax and bamboo strips are investigated numerically to develop design strategies for binary hybrid composite. It is found that the bending stiffness and equivalent modulus of elasticity for model FB-1 are increased by 37.53 % and 37.52 % respectively compared to the base model while the energy absorption for model FB-3 is highest which is 105.89 % higher than the base model. Analysis of various lay-up sequences showed that flexural behavior can be improved by fabricating binary hybrid composites using the concept of a sandwich structure. It is shown that all highly stiff laminas should be placed on the outer sides of the composite to achieve the maximum bending stiffness whereas they should be placed at the center to attain the maximum energy absorption.

Effect of Nano-filler on the Manufacturing and Properties of Natural Fiber-based Composites: A Review

Natural fiber reinforced polymer composite offers ecological safety towards a sustainable environment. Meanwhile, the deficiency of the poor interfacial bonding between fiber and matrix draws the attention of researchers to be sorted out. The use of inorganic nanofiller is considered as a possible solution to overcome the hurdle nowadays besides strengthening the composite properties. This article thoroughly reviews the use of inorganic nanofillers in natural fiber composites, covering different manufacturing processes and properties. Factors of various manufacturing techniques occupied for composite fabrication are investigated. Moreover, the influences of different nanofillers on mechanical, thermal, chemical, and physical properties of composites are discussed. In addition, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images of the bio composites are critically reviewed that usually exhibit the interfacial bonding and the fractures of the specimen. Furthermore, application of such natural fiber composites and the future investigation pathway in using inorganic nanofiller in composite are narrated.

Investigations on Dielectric Constant of Coir Powder-Reinforced PVC Composites

ABSTRACT In recent times, there is an intensive growth toward investigation and creation of the green fiber composites due to its abundance and cost-effective, renewable, and environmentally-safe features. Natural fiber-based composites are rapidly replacing synthetic fiber-based composites in electrical engineering applications but being limited due to poor electrical insulation properties. Hence, an attempt is made in this study to improve the electrical insulation properties of coir fiber (powder form)/polyvinylchloride composite by optimizing the variables viz. fiber content (wt.%), particle size (in μm), and chemical treatments using Box–Behnken design. Thus, the results are optimized using the analysis of variance to achieve the low dielectric constant (2.256) for the combination of chemical treatments (triethoxy(ethyl)silane), fiber content (2 wt.%), and particle size (179.5 μm), which are suitable for the electrical insulation products. Additionally, a conformity test is executed and error was found to be 2.54%.

Synthesis and Characterization of Activated Carbon/Alginate/Nanocellulose-Cu Composites

OPEFB is one source of natural fiber-based composites which have the potential to become activated carbon and nanocellulose. This study aims to synthesize and characterize the activated carbon/alginate/nanocellulose-Cu composite. The characterization used in this study is FTIR and PSA. The synthesis of activated carbon/alginate/nanocellulose-Cu composites began with a process of carbonization and activation with H3PO4 to produce Activated Carbon. Followed by a bleaching process with NaClO2 and a delignification process with Na2SO3 and NaOH to produce Nanocellulose. Alginate using commercial alginate. Furthermore, the three ingredients were mixed until homogeneous and put into a 0.1M CuSO4 solution to produce beads. The results of the characterization of characterization of PSA Nanocellulose obtained a particle size of 41.05 nm and the result of FTIR characterization on the activated carbon/alginate/nanocellulose-Cu composite contained the functional group OH group, triple C bond from stretching alkyne, C=C aromatic group, C-H alkane group, C-O group, the P=O stretching vibration of the P-O-C group and the alcohol OH group expressing the active carbon; there are functional groups of hydroxyl (OH), carboxyl, carbonyl, and C-O-C and –COOH bonds which represent alginate and there are OH functional groups, stretching C-H bonds, C-O stretching, stretching C-C, and β- glucosidic bonds between glucose units which indicate nanocellulose.

The KALg Cu13 sample had a peak at a wavelength of 2838.79 Cm-1 Where the four samples show the presence of C≡N groups.

Investigation on mechanical properties of novel natural fiber-epoxy resin hybrid composites for engineering structural applications

Polymers and fibers are the main components of cementitious composite materials to reinforce concrete. The synthetic fibers used in concrete composites typically weigh and also, and they are easily subjected to thermal degradation. To tackle the above issues, researchers developed various natural fiber-based composites. In the paper, the mechanical characteristics of hybrid composites were examined. The hybrid composites were developed using Madar, Gongura, and Hibiscus cannabinus fibers. The polyester resin was the matrix. The fibers were treated chemically using a 5% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution. The fibers were then carefully cleaned with distilled water twice and baked for 70 min at 60 °C. For the evaluation of the tensile, flexural, and impact properties of the hybrid composites, specimens were made in accordance with ASTM standards. The treated composite sample (S3) specimen exhibits a tensile strength (TS) of approximately 34.720 N/mm2, flexural strength (FS) of 77.957 MPa, and flexural modulus (FM) of 1548.588 GPa. The average water absorption of the sample is only 2.45%. The hardness and impact strength (IS) of the samples are also superior to those of several other composites studied in the literature. Hence, the proposed hybrid composites could be a potential material for reinforcing the concrete composites to provide a higher service rate and greater durability to the structures.

Characterization of Physical and Mechanical Properties of Rice Straw Particles and Furcraea foetida Fiber Reinforced Hybrid Composite

ABSTRACT The biodegradable characteristics and abundant availability of the fiber sources have gained the attention of various industries to produce natural fiber-based composites. As a sustainable alternative to the non-biodegradable fiber-based products, the natural composites provide a viable solution to reduce the environmental pollution caused by synthetic materials. This study developed rice straw particle (RSp) and Furcraea foetida (FF) fiber reinforced hybrid composite and investigated its physical and mechanical properties. The addition of 15 wt.% of RSp reduced the density of the test samples by 41.87% and its water absorption (WA) increased with the increase in fiber concentration. The composite with 5 wt.% and 15 wt.% of RSp showed maximum tensile strength (σt: 29.45 MPa) and modulus (σtm: 3.67 GPa), respectively. At 15 wt.% of RSp, the maximum flexural strength (σf: 43.12 MPa) and modulus (σfm: 2.09 GPa) was achieved and at 10 wt.% of RSp showed the highest impact strength (σi: 101.01 J/m). The σt (40.21%) and σf (7.76%) of the RSp reinforced composite were improved by the hybridization of FF (20 wt.%) fiber reinforcement.

Short Jute Fiber Preform Reinforced Polypropylene Thermoplastic Composite: Experimental Investigation and Its Theoretical Stiffness Prediction.

Natural-based lignocellulose fibrous materials can be used as a sustainable alternative to conventional fossil-based fibers such as glass fibers, in lightweight fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites for marine, automotive, aerospace, or other advanced applications. However, one of the main challenges in using natural fiber-based thermoplastic composites is the low mechanical performance of composite structures. This can be improved significantly through the development of an optimized novel fiber architecture with enhanced fiber packing properties, following a low-cost production process. In this context, this study demonstrates a less energy-consuming and cheaper manufacturing process, for developing highly individualized short jute fiber-based dry fiber preform architecture, with an improved fiber packing property. Short jute fibers were chemically treated with alkali and PVA sizing treatments in the processing of new fiber preform architectures, and they were used in manufacturing of ultimate short jute fiber/polypropylene (PP) thermoplastic composites. The newly developed short fiber thermoplastic composites showed a significant improvement in mechanical properties (tensile, flexural, and impact) compared to any other natural fiber architecture-based (woven, knitted, nonwoven, unidirectional, etc.) composites found in the literature. Due to the use of new fiber architecture, the developed composites' fiber content was observed to increase. In addition, the compatibility of jute fibers with the polypropylene matrix was strengthened with the application of chemical treatments on highly individualized jute fibers. These reasons were responsible for the enhancement of mechanical properties of developed composites. Micromechanics of the fibers in composites were evaluated using the modified rule of the mixture and Halpin-Tsai equations for stiffness prediction of the composites in order to develop a theoretical understanding of newly developed composites' mechanics. It is thought that the improved mechanical performance of short jute fiber/PP thermoplastic composites can extend the use of these composites in many load-demanding applications, wherein normally synthetic fiber composites are used.

Adhesive behavior of sisal and jute composite exposed to three months cyclic temperature variation

Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRPs) are being used extensively in various engineering applications ranging from aerospace to sports goods. In recent years, environmental concerns and awareness have challenged engineers and scientists to develop materials that are sustainable and have the potential to replace the traditional FRPs. Natural fiber-based polymeric composites (NFRPC) are now being investigated and proposed worldwide for various applications, especially automotive components and domestic products. To ensure the fabrication of highly intricate composite products, joining becomes inevitable. Adhesive joining is the most commonly employed fabrication process for composite joints. However, the performance of adhesive joints is susceptible to their exposure to different environmental conditions. In the present experimental investigation, the joint strength of woven fiber mat (sisal, jute, and hybrid) reinforced epoxy composites has been investigated in Three Months Cyclic Temperature Variation, and the natural fiber reinforced epoxy adherends have been successfully joined using adhesive along with two/four holes in the overlap area. The performance of the adhesive joints has been investigated under a daily thermal cycle from 5 °C (12 hrs.) to 40 °C (12 hrs.), for three consecutive months. It was observed that the hybrid composites recorded better-joining performance. Moreover, the Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM) has been used to understand the failure mechanisms during tensile testing of adhesively bonded natural fiber-reinforced composite laminates. It has been found that the exposure of the composite joints to a variable temperature during the day has a significant effect on their tensile behavior. The major factors affecting the performance of joints exposed to the thermal cycle are; the type of natural fiber, the number of holes in the adherend area, and the duration of exposure. The results are important for the designers of composite structures with adhesively bonded joints.

Investigating the Influence of Water Absorption and Mechanical Properties of Composites Reinforced with Banana and Roselle Fibers

Abstract: Fiber-reinforced polymer composites are the best at many things because they have high specific strength and modulus. Plastics are reinforced with artificial or natural fibers. Glass, carbon, and other synthetic fibers have long been used in fiber-reinforced plastics. Despite having high specific strengths, glass and other synthetic fiber-reinforced plastics are rarely used due to the high cost of production. For this, researchers have studied roselle, a plentiful natural fiber from India. Natural fibers are lightweight, strong, and reasonably priced. This study develops and characterizes a new class of natural fiber-based polymer composites using roselle fiber and banana fiber reinforcement. The new composites' mechanical characteristics are described. Research is being done to better understand the mechanical behaviour of epoxy-based polymer composites. Composites made of banana fiber and roselle fiber are gaining attention as sustainable and cost-effective alternatives to synthetic fiber composites. In this study, six different compositions of these natural fiber composites were prepared, and six specimens were tested using tensile tests and water absorption tests, in accordance with ASTM standards. The results showed an increase in tensile strength with a 68% improvement observed when compared to pure epoxy resin. The water absorption tests were conducted by varying the weights of the composites and increasing the weights gradually over a period of 10 days. The findings showed that the composites exhibited excellent resistance to water absorption, with the weight gain being significantly lower than that of pure epoxy resin. These results suggest that composites made of banana fiber and roselle fiber can be a promising alternative to traditional synthetic fiber composites, with improved mechanical properties and resistance to water absorption.
