The National Turkey Federation Research Award was presented to Robert N. Shoffner, Professor, Department of Poultry Science, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, at the annual convention by R. Berg, Chairman of the Awards Committee. The award consists of five hundred dollars and a plaque.Dr. Shoffner’s contributions have been in the areas of genetics, physiology and management. His research with turkeys has included investigations on the effect of size and conformation on meat yield and reproduction. The results of crossing investigations made it possible to recommend a combinational scheme in which the traits for the female parent and the male parent were reasonably well defined for maximum efficiency. Research on photoperiod response in turkeys was centred largely on the question of developing light management which would maximize selection for reproductive performance in an improvement program.
