Role of Nanotechnology in Food Sector

Nanotechnology is a new emerging technology which has applications in different areas like it plays an important role in food sector and is used during food processing and food packaging. Nano-food may provide proper nutrient supplements like iron, vitamins, proteins and essential minerals. Nanotechnology is also self-assured to develop quality food packaging materials and can reduce plastic use. Scientists also going to develop nm sized salt grain particles that may increase surface area; hence our food materials require very less salt to give our taste buds that will cure high blood pressure. Beer bottles made by Plastics are used by many brewer SABMiller that contain a layer of nano-particles of clay that easily separable and filled more space in walls of beer and makes it harder for fizzy CO2 to free from the beer or for O2, that spoil the flavor of beer. There are many Government stakeholders and agencies to determine limitations and release demonstrative prescription and proclamation, as early as possible before-food packaging by nano materials that may have considerable impacts on health of human being. This review focused on the availability of nanofood packaging, processing and their supplements in the current market.

Nanotechnology in food processing sector-An assessment of emerging trends

Use of nanoscience based technology in the food industry is fast emerging as new area for research and development. Several research groups including private companies in the industry have initiated research programmes for exploring the wide scope of nanotechnology into the value chain of food processing and manufacturing. This paper discusses the current focus of research in this area and assesses its potential impacts. Using the developed relational database framework with R&D indicators like literature and patent documents for assessment of the potential of nanotechnology in food sector, a model to organize and map nanoresearch areas to the food processing sector was developed. The study indicates that the about five basic categories of nanotechnology applications and functionalities currently in the development of food sector, include food processing, packaging, nutraceuticals delivery, food safety and functional foods.

Nanotechnology in Food Sector and Agriculture

Proper nutrition and a clean environment promote human health. Nanotechnology is used to a limited extent at the moment for achieving these aims although it has the potential to revolutionize agriculture and food sectors by their ground breaking scientific innovations. So far, the use of nanotechnology in agriculture has been mostly theoretical, but it has begun and will continue to have a significant effect in the main areas of the food industry: development of new functional materials, product development, and design of methods and instrumentation for food safety and bio-security. The effects on society as a whole will be dramatic. The article reviews some of the current nanotechnology research that is applicable to agriculture and food technology and project what the future will bring to the newly emerging field of Agrifood Nanotechnology.
