A Survey: Predictive Maintenance Modeling using Machine Learning Techniques

This is the survey paper which includes abstract of multiple references for better understanding of the topic. This paper includes brief overview about predictive maintenance and some of its application were its used as well as older research is also taken into account which discuss various methodology for Predictive Maintenance using Multiple Classifier Approach by Machine Learning. Predictive Maintenance is introduced into various Industries and sectors. It helps to predict the condition of equipment of machine which are already in use this tells whether the maintenance is required or not. This technique ensures that cost saving has done, as compare to regular maintenance where unnecessary replacements have been done without proper utilization of resources. The main advantage of this Technique is that it can allow timely and convenient scheduling of corrective maintenance and can prevent unexpected failures. If in advance we know which that part needs maintenance we can plan and work accordingly. This is continuous and iterative process the model or algorithm continue to evolve as it used.

Sensor Drift Compensation Based on the Improved LSTM and SVM Multi-Class Ensemble Learning Models.

Drift is an important issue that impairs the reliability of sensors, especially in gas sensors. The conventional method usually adopts the reference gas to compensate for the drift. However, its classification accuracy is not high. We propose a supervised learning algorithm that is based on multi-classifier integration for drift compensation in this paper, which incorporates drift compensation into the classification process, motivated by the fact that the goal of drift compensation is to improve the classification performance. In our method, with the obtained characteristics of sensors and the advantage of Support Vector Machine (SVM) in few-shot classification, the improved Long Shot Term Memory (LSTM) is integrated to build the multi-class classifier model. We tested the proposed approach on the publicly available time series dataset that was collected over three years by the metal-oxide gas sensors. The results clearly indicate the superiority of multiple classifier approach, which achieves higher classification accuracy as compared with different approaches during testing period with an ensemble of classifiers in the presence of sensor drift over time.

Biomedical Text Categorization Based on Ensemble Pruning and Optimized Topic Modelling.

Text mining is an important research direction, which involves several fields, such as information retrieval, information extraction, and text categorization. In this paper, we propose an efficient multiple classifier approach to text categorization based on swarm-optimized topic modelling. The Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) can overcome the high dimensionality problem of vector space model, but identifying appropriate parameter values is critical to performance of LDA. Swarm-optimized approach estimates the parameters of LDA, including the number of topics and all the other parameters involved in LDA. The hybrid ensemble pruning approach based on combined diversity measures and clustering aims to obtain a multiple classifier system with high predictive performance and better diversity. In this scheme, four different diversity measures (namely, disagreement measure, Q-statistics, the correlation coefficient, and the double fault measure) among classifiers of the ensemble are combined. Based on the combined diversity matrix, a swarm intelligence based clustering algorithm is employed to partition the classifiers into a number of disjoint groups and one classifier (with the highest predictive performance) from each cluster is selected to build the final multiple classifier system. The experimental results based on five biomedical text benchmarks have been conducted. In the swarm-optimized LDA, different metaheuristic algorithms (such as genetic algorithms, particle swarm optimization, firefly algorithm, cuckoo search algorithm, and bat algorithm) are considered. In the ensemble pruning, five metaheuristic clustering algorithms are evaluated. The experimental results on biomedical text benchmarks indicate that swarm-optimized LDA yields better predictive performance compared to the conventional LDA. In addition, the proposed multiple classifier system outperforms the conventional classification algorithms, ensemble learning, and ensemble pruning methods.

Multiple classifier system using classification confidence for texture classification

This paper proposes a simple yet effective novel classifier fusion strategy for multi-class texture classification. The resulting classification framework is named as Classification Confidence-based Multiple Classifier Approach (CCMCA). The proposed training based scheme fuses the decisions of two base classifiers (those constitute the classifier ensemble) using their classification confidence to enhance the final classification accuracy. 4-fold cross validation approach is followed to perform experiments on four different texture databases those vary in terms of orientation, number of texture classes and complexity. Apart from its simplicity, the proposed CCMCA method shows better and consistent performance with lowest standard deviation as compared to fixed rule and simple trainable fusion techniques irrespective of the feature set used across all the databases used in the experiment. The performance gain of the proposed CCMCA method over other competing methods is found to be statistically significant.

Machine Learning for Predictive Maintenance: A Multiple Classifier Approach

In this paper, a multiple classifier machine learning (ML) methodology for predictive maintenance (PdM) is presented. PdM is a prominent strategy for dealing with maintenance issues given the increasing need to minimize downtime and associated costs. One of the challenges with PdM is generating the so-called “health factors,” or quantitative indicators, of the status of a system associated with a given maintenance issue, and determining their relationship to operating costs and failure risk. The proposed PdM methodology allows dynamical decision rules to be adopted for maintenance management, and can be used with high-dimensional and censored data problems. This is achieved by training multiple classification modules with different prediction horizons to provide different performance tradeoffs in terms of frequency of unexpected breaks and unexploited lifetime, and then employing this information in an operating cost-based maintenance decision system to minimize expected costs. The effectiveness of the methodology is demonstrated using a simulated example and a benchmark semiconductor manufacturing maintenance problem.

Prediction and prioritization of rare oncogenic mutations in the cancer Kinome using novel features and multiple classifiers.

Cancer is a genetic disease that develops through a series of somatic mutations, a subset of which drive cancer progression. Although cancer genome sequencing studies are beginning to reveal the mutational patterns of genes in various cancers, identifying the small subset of “causative” mutations from the large subset of “non-causative” mutations, which accumulate as a consequence of the disease, is a challenge. In this article, we present an effective machine learning approach for identifying cancer-associated mutations in human protein kinases, a class of signaling proteins known to be frequently mutated in human cancers. We evaluate the performance of 11 well known supervised learners and show that a multiple-classifier approach, which combines the performances of individual learners, significantly improves the classification of known cancer-associated mutations. We introduce several novel features related specifically to structural and functional characteristics of protein kinases and find that the level of conservation of the mutated residue at specific evolutionary depths is an important predictor of oncogenic effect. We consolidate the novel features and the multiple-classifier approach to prioritize and experimentally test a set of rare unconfirmed mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase (EGFR). Our studies identify T725M and L861R as rare cancer-associated mutations inasmuch as these mutations increase EGFR activity in the absence of the activating EGF ligand in cell-based assays.

On the discovery of events in EEG data utilizing information fusion

One way to tackle brain computer interfaces is to consider event related potentials in electroencephalography, like the well established P300 phenomenon. In this paper a multiple classifier approach to discover these events in the bioelectrical signal and with them whether or not a subject has recognized a particular pattern, is employed. Dealing with noisy data as well as heavily imbalanced target class distributions are among the difficulties encountered. Our approach utilizes partitions of electrodes to create robust and meaningful individual classifiers, which are then subsequently combined using decision fusion. Furthermore, a classifier selection approach using genetic algorithms is evaluated and used for optimization. The proposed approach utilizing information fusion shows promising results (over 0.8 area under the ROC curve).

Multiple Spectral–Spatial Classification Approach for Hyperspectral Data

A new multiple-classifier approach for spectral–spatial classification of hyperspectral images is proposed. Several classifiers are used independently to classify an image. For every pixel, if all the classifiers have assigned this pixel to the same class, the pixel is kept as a marker, i.e., a seed of the spatial region with a corresponding class label. We propose to use spectral–spatial classifiers at the preliminary step of the marker-selection procedure, each of them combining the results of a pixelwise classification and a segmentation map. Different segmentation methods based on dissimilar principles lead to different classification results. Furthermore, a minimum spanning forest is built, where each tree is rooted on a classification-driven marker and forms a region in the spectral–spatial classification map. Experimental results are presented for two hyperspectral airborne images. The proposed method significantly improves classification accuracies when compared with previously proposed classification techniques.

A multiple classifier approach to detect Chinese character recognition errors

Detection of recognition errors is important in many areas, such as improving recognition performance, saving manual effort for proof-reading and post-editing, and assigning appropriate weights for retrieval in constructing digital libraries. We propose a novel application of multiple classifiers for the detection of recognition errors. A need for multiple classifiers emerges when a single classifier cannot improve recognition-error detection performance compared with the current detection scheme using a simple threshold mechanism. Although the single classifier does not improve recognition error performance, it serves as a baseline for comparison and the related study of useful features for error detection suggests three distinct cases where improvement is needed. For each case, the multiple classifier approach assigns a classifier to detect the presence or absence of errors and additional features are considered for each case. Our results show that the recall rate (70–80%) of recognition errors, the precision rate (80–90%) of recognition error detection and the saving in manual effort (75%) were better than the corresponding performance using a single classifier or a simple threshold detection scheme.

Speaker identification by combining multiple classifiers using Dempster–Shafer theory of evidence

This paper presents a multiple classifier approach as an alternative solution to the closed-set text-independent speaker identification problem. The proposed algorithm which is based on Dempster–Shafer theory of evidence computes the first and Rth level ranking statistics. Rth level confusion matrices extracted from these ranking statistics are used to cluster the speakers into model sets where they share set specific properties. Some of these model sets are used to reflect the strengths and weaknesses of the classifiers while some others carry speaker dependent ranking statistics of the corresponding classifier. These information sets from multiple classifiers are combined to arrive at a joint decision. For the combination task, a rule-based algorithm is developed where Dempster’s rule of combination is applied in the final step. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method performed much better compared to some other rank-based combination methods.
