Christian faith and multiculturalism in Indonesia: an effort to develop harmony based on religion

<span lang="EN-US">Indonesia is known as a country that has a pluralistic society. Diversity and diversity in a plural society can lead to many problems such as discrimination, violence, injustice. One feature is the diversity of religions, there are six religions recognized in Indonesia. Religious pluralism can be a trigger for disharmony in society. Disharmony because religion is not single because it is often accompanied by various interests such as politics, culture, and others. The writing of this article explains that the Christian faith as one of the religions in Indonesia can work in the same direction with the concept of multiculturalism to produce harmony in a pluralistic and pluralistic society like Indonesia. This writing uses qualitative interpretative and descriptive methods of understanding the Christian faith and multiculturalism. The explanation in this paper shows the real phenomenon that religion is often considered the cause of disharmony and multiculturalism can be a solution in a pluralistic and pluralistic society. This writing will be interesting when religion, especially the Christian faith can work together / in the same direction with multiculturalism to produce harmony in society. The results of this study are very useful to explain that religion (Christian faith) is not a cause of disharmony if done correctly. Christian faith does not conflict with multiculturalism which together can build harmony in the life of a pluralistic and pluralist society.</span>

Dynamics of Multiculturalism and Religious Pluralism: Strategies for Building Social Cohesion in Indonesia

This study explores the intricate relationship between religion and multiculturalism in Indonesia, a nation marked by its rich cultural diversity and complex religious dynamics. The research aims to examine how these factors contribute to societal harmony or conflict. Utilizing a qualitative approach, this study conducts a literature analysis, drawing from a wide range of scholarly sources on religion, multiculturalism, and interfaith harmony in the Indonesian context. The findings indicate that while multiculturalism and religious pluralism offer frameworks for coexistence, challenges persist due to historical tensions and socio-political factors. The analysis highlights the role of perception in conflict dynamics, emphasizing that differences in communication styles, ethical norms, and religious beliefs can escalate tensions. Conversely, effective interfaith dialogue and inclusive policies can promote harmony. The study concludes that fostering a deeper understanding of multiculturalism and an inclusive approach to religion is crucial for reducing conflicts and enhancing societal cohesion. Addressing underlying socio-economic and political factors is essential for sustainable peace and unity in Indonesia.

Assimilation of Tung Chung Shu’s Philosophy and the Development of Multiculturalism

The purpose of this article is to explore the thoughts of the philosopher Tung Chung Shu who is a figure in Chinese philosophy. Tung Chung Shu managed to compile several aspects of philosophy and culture that developed in China during the Han dynasty. Tung Chung Shu's thought has relevance to the development of multiculturalism, especially in Indonesia amid globalization today. The condition of the Chinese nation has a different cultural background and has succeeded in reformulating the unifying ideology of the country so that it can improve the condition of a society that is experiencing chaos. The philosophy and culture of the Chinese nation that developed when in this condition was the Han Dynasty which was dominated by Taoism, Legalism, and Confucianism. A Chinese philosopher, Tung Chung Shu, combined the three schools with the core teachings of jen, yi, l, chi, and hsin with the main goal of realizing a happy, prosperous, and safe society. The situation of differences that exist in people's lives gave birth to multiculturalism which offers a cultural paradigm to understand and interpret the differences that develop in people's lives. This research uses the abstraction analysis method and then analyzes it through a comparative interpretative approach that begins with description and historical continuity. The results showed that (1) the condition of differences in society can be avoided from conflict if the government can implement multiculturalism policies in regulating the order of government as in Tung Chung Shu's thinking about good governance (2) the condition of a country depends on the attitude of the country's leaders so that the condition of multicultural society can be safe, harmonious, peaceful, prosperous cannot be separated from the role of state leaders (3) in addressing differences need the attitude of wisdom, humanity, courage, wisdom and virtue as the philosophical thought of Tung Chung Shu. In line with the conditions of the multicultural Indonesian nation, Tung Chung Shu's thoughts can be a reference in efforts to develop multiculturalism in Indonesia. This argument is supported by the situation and conditions of the Indonesian nation which has a diversity of ethnicities, cultures, religions, regions, and different cultural traditions.

Improving The Professional Teacher Competence Through Clinical Supervision Based on Multicultural Values in Pesantren

This study examines how clinical supervision activities can promote multiculturalism in Indonesia and enhance teacher professionalism. Multicultural education is based on five criteria integrated into clinical supervision activities to improve teacher competence. The goal is to apply multicultural values to education and enhance teacher competency in various areas, such as pedagogy, personality, social skills, and professionalism. The study focuses specifically on two Islamic boarding schools in Ponorogo, East Java, Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative approach for detailed, comprehensive, and in-depth data collection techniques in observation, documentation, interviews, and focused discussions. Based on the findings of the clinical supervision description data through the planning stage, clinical supervision stage, evaluation stage, and follow-up, data analysis techniques using Miles and Huberman are applied, which include data mining, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The study found that clinical supervision activities for teachers in Islamic boarding schools start with planning supervision, followed by microteaching and observation activities to assess teacher learning standards. The development of teacher competency is based on teacher learning preparation, discussions, the teacher as the supervisor of an Islamic boarding school, and the teacher as the main actor in clinical supervision activities. This research highlights the importance of clinical supervision based on multicultural values, as it can enhance pedagogic, personality, social, and professional competencies.

Multiculturalism in Indonesia: How Does Literature Affect the Development of Diversity?

Objective: Multiculturalism serves as the root cause of social divisiveness worldwide, including in Indonesia. Meanwhile, literature is often regarded as a medium for cultivating multiculturalism among the populace. Therefore, this research seeks to examine the literature's role in fostering awareness of multiculturalism in Indonesian society.
 
 Method: The research employs the survey method. The research instrument utilizes a questionnaire containing inquiries pertaining to the comprehension of multiculturalism. The respondents' data amounts to 382. The data source is an online survey platform disseminated through Google Forms.
 
 Results: Literature is crucial in enhancing the understanding of multiculturalism within Indonesian society. It broadens horizons to appreciate differences and contemplate the values of diversity. Furthermore, literature facilitates intercultural dialogue and awareness of societal pluralism. Despite encountering challenges, literature also harbors significant opportunities to assume a greater role in advancing the comprehension of multiculturalism in Indonesian society. Hence, it is imperative to continuously support and promote literature, integrating it into education and public awareness to achieve an inclusive, tolerant, and diversity-respecting society.
 
 Conclusions: Literature plays a crucial role in enhancing the understanding and appreciation of multiculturalism among the populace in Indonesia. It possesses a potent potential to shape an inclusive, tolerant, and mutually respectful society within an environment replete with diversity.

Multiculturalism and identity politics: Reading on the Religious Harmony Forum

This study looks into identity politics locally, with an emphasis on the role played by religious groups—such as the Religious Harmony Forum (Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragaman/FKUB)—in promoting multiculturalism as a countermeasure to the growth of identity politics. The study’s focus is the Kerinci Regency in Jambi, Indonesia, and it looks at how identity politics and diversity are positioned within the larger Indonesian framework. The research selectively chooses informants, such as the FKUB, the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), traditional leaders, and religious figures, using qualitative methods like observation, interviews, and document examination. Results show that a variety of political identification patterns exist across the country according to societal culture, resources, and sociopolitical circumstances. As a result, the FKUB responds with a variety of strategies and tactics. The study also emphasizes how the discourse-centric perspective on multiculturalism hinders its ability to effectively counter identity politics. The research points up difficulties that stand in the way of achieving diversity, such as the consolidation and contestation of identity within Islam. Interfaith conflicts, however, show a downward trend and provide a more nuanced picture of the intricate relationship between identity politics and multiculturalism in Indonesia at the local level.

Pendidikan Multikulturalisme dan Prospeknya di Indonesia

Multicultural education is a model expected to create peace and address the growing conflicts. The primary goal of multicultural education in this context is to foster attitudes of sympathy, respect, appreciation, and empathy towards followers of different religions and cultures. Importantly, this multicultural education strategy aims not only to make it easier for students to comprehend their lessons but also to increase their awareness and encourage them to behave in a humanistic, pluralistic, and democratic manner. This research employs a qualitative approach, involving the collection, analysis, and synthesis of relevant literature on multicultural education and its prospects in Indonesia. The researcher gathers academic publications, scientific journals, books, and other related sources to understand previous research, current issues, and developments in the field of multiculturalism in Indonesia. Interviews are conducted to obtain direct data from various stakeholders involved in multicultural education in Indonesia. Potential interview respondents include government officials, educators, educational institution administrators, students, and other community members engaged in multiculturalism issues. Surveys are used to collect data from a larger sample, such as teachers or students in various educational institutions in Indonesia. Surveys can provide broader insights into perceptions, attitudes, and understanding of multiculturalism, as well as its prospects within the education community. The results of the research indicate that to achieve the goals of multicultural education, the participation and support of teachers or professors, educational institutions, and other education policymakers are crucial. Multicultural education can be implemented if done with the concepts and limitations of Islamic Shariah.

Bhinneka Tunggal Ika isn't just an abstract principle here; it's also a shared respect of togetherness and pluralism. Nationality is more than a combination of bloodshed and residence. The goal of this document format, which is a documentation research technique, is to collect numerous references in the form of books, articles, documents, and other materials related to the fundamental principles of ethnic and religious multiculturalism in Indonesia. Gaining cultural understanding and ethnic literacy does not always imply that attitudes of racism, prejudice, and discrimination are abolished, and this approach undervalues the huge significance of racism. A NEW WAY TO SOLVE BASIC EDUCATION PROBLEMS IN INDONESIA IN ADAPTING TO MULTICULTURALISM

This study has the aim of describing the results of research on multiculturalism in Indonesia. The findings of the research papers will be used as the basis for finding new ways, especially for the implementation of multicultural education in the context of basic education that can be used to solve problems in education. The research method used a content analysis of 12 articles in English from 2018-2022 using the keyword "multicultural Indonesia". Research findings indicate that teachers in primary education need to adapt to multicultural developments in Indonesia to solve educational problems. New ways for teachers to promote multiculturalism include: increasing philosophical and sociological understanding of Indonesia; strengthening understanding of policies and curriculum, as well as increasing learning (pedagogy) with a multicultural orientation in the Indonesian context. The recommendation from this research is to apply the multicultural learning model in the primary education classroom.

The spirit of multiculturalism values that are still being guided by all Indonesian people are the value of mutual respect, the value of mutual tplerance, the value of unity, the value of cooperation, and the value of solidarity that must be nurtured ang maintaied. The Special Region of Yogyakarta is part of the unity state of the Republic of Indonesia, which has an attarction for the Indonesian people themselves ang the world community to visit and get to know Yogyakarta up close. The city which is attached to the nickname as a city of culture, tourism city. And student city is supported by a culture of inhabitants who are always grateful and accept the nature that has been given by the Almighty, to the low cost of living. Yogyakarta has its own magnet as must-visit area ini Indonesia. The present of foreign culture ini Yogyakarta that is able to blend in with local culture ang grow and develop in the surrounding community, so it is not an exaggeration if Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X (Governor of DIY), said that “Yogyakarta is a miniatur of Indonesia”. The negative side of the presence of foreign culture to Ypgyakarta is the inability of local culture to blend in with the culture of immigants, which is precisely the diversity or plurality in Yogyakarta that can lead to conflict that lead to social unrest. Migrant communities who still bring the original culture of the region to Yogyakarta which may not necessarily be accept by culture of the people of Yogyakarta. There needs to be stategy from the Yogyakarta Regional Government in order to realize the values contained in Multiculturalism in the perspective of region resilience in Yogyakarta.

Qua Vadis Pendidikan Agama Islam Berbasis Multikulturalime di Indonesia

This study examines topics relating to Islamic religious education using research in education that is multicultural in nature. The study of quo vadis Islamic Religious Education based on multiculturalism in Indonesia forms the basis of this research, which is based on a review of the relevant literature. In order to respond to some of the research questions in this paper, this study employs a qualitative descriptive analytic methodology. First, how is Indonesia's understanding of Islamic religious education? Second, what does the term "multicultural education" mean? Third, how does multiculturalism fit within Indonesia's quid vadis of Islamic religious education? Utilizing a content analysis method, descriptive analysis will be used to describe the quintessence of Islamic religious education based on multiculturalism in Indonesia, as well as data on the concepts of Islamic religious education, education based on multiculturalism, and multiculturalism. Knowing the concepts of multiculturalism, qua vadis, and Islamic religious education are the outcomes of this research. The study of multicultural education in Indonesia serves as the foundation for Islamic religious education.

Pancasila and the Recontextualization of Indonesia’s State Identity: International Relations Approach

Indonesia is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world. At the same time, it is also a very diverse country with abundant resources geopolitically. One of the most famous characteristics of Indonesia is Its multiculturalism, with its national motto “Unity in Diversity”. Several scholars argued that Pancasila, as Indonesia’s national ideology, plays part in assuring pluralism and multiculturalism in Indonesia. Historically, Pancasila was formulated as a unifying factor for Indonesia. However, certain “groups” like Aceh and Papua who claimed that they have distinct histories with Indonesian nationhood find it harder to have the same shared imagination that Pancasila holds those unifying elements. Furthermore, Pancasila’s position plays a big role in shaping the political behavior ideals of Indonesia, as it acts as the state identity of Indonesia. This paper focuses on analyzing the role of Pancasila as a unifying factor for Indonesia, which also shapes the identity of Indonesia and the recontextualization of Pancasila.

MEWUJUDKAN MULTIKULTURALISME DI INDONESIA MELALUI TOLERANSI

Indonesia is a nation with diverse etnics, cultures and social groups. Efforts to realize the hopes of multiculturalism in Indonesia can be realized, one of which is by promoting toleration between ethnic groups, cultures, and existing social groups. Based on Forst's concept of toleration, multiculturalism in Indonesia is expected to happen through toleration that occurs in two of Forst’s four conceptions of toleration, namely: respect conception and esteem conception.

ISLAMOPHOBIA: ANCAMAN MULTIKULTURALISME DI INDONESIA

This article discusses islamophobia as a threat to multiculturalism in Indonesia. To test this assumption, this article uses the theory expressed by Huntington as a multicultural clash between Western civilization and Islam. The method used is qualitative-explorative with a phenomenological approach. By analysis using Nvivo 12 Pro Tools. The results of this study state that islamophobia has significantly undermined the harmonization of diversity in Indonesia. This is evidenced by the phenomenon of mutual disbelief among fellow Muslims and bigotry between Islamic groups in Indonesia. As an offer to face the threat of division from the high influence of islamophobia, it is to present Islam as rahmatan lil alamin to maintain national and state harmonization in Indonesia.

Islamic Political Party and Multiculturalism: Hymne and Mars, Non-Moslem and Minority Communities in Partai Keadilan Sejahtera

Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) is an Islamic party with a strong Islamic ideology with a large number of cadres and voters (constituents) and is very influential in building multiculturalism in Indonesia. This study is to describe the view of the multiculturalism of Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS) through party policies, and non-Muslim and minority community cooperation. The method used in this study is qualitative research using literature studies sources in the form of books, websites, articles, and newspapers. PKS changed hymns and marches to instill and demonstrate multiculturalism. PKS involves and supports non-Muslims to become party administrators, and candidates for legislative and executive members. PKS also cooperates with minority communities to maintain the integrity, brotherhood, unity, and integrity of the nation. PKS as an Islamic political party makes Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika the main values in maintaining multiculturalism in Indonesia.

AbstractIndonesia is widely known as a multicultural country. This very complex diversity makes Indonesia a culturally diverse country. Multiculturalism in Indonesia should put aside SARA (ethnicity, religion, race, and between groups). Therefore, a multicultural understanding of diversity must always be applied in the learning process. Through historical education which is related to the formation of national character by prioritizing different cultural values. This study aims to find out and get accurate information about the cultivation of multicultural values education at SMA Islam Bawari Pontianak. This research used qualitative research method with sampling purposive technique. The results showed that cultivation of multicultural values education has been applied in the learning process through historical education by inserting multicultural-based values can create the harmony and communion outside and inside the school environment and the high tolerance attitude of students and other school members.Keywords : Multicultural, Historis Learning, Education

Arus Multikultural di Indonesia dalam Perspektif Pancasila, Islam, dan Kebangsaan

Multiculturalism is an understanding of the diversity of culture and in this diversity is born a related understanding of equality, justice, peace, tolerance, and others. Multiculturalism in Pancasila uses the concept of gotong royong which allows all aspects of the Indonesian homeland to be recognized. In Islam, Allah SWT has explained, among others, in QS Al-Hujurat: 13 and QS Hud: 118-119 there is diversity between humans on earth. Multiculturalism in nationality according to historical records, the Indonesian nation has had diversity since the century before independence and has become a proud unity. This journal aims to analyze the currents of multiculturalism in Indonesia from the perspective of Pancasila, Islam, and nationality. This research method uses qualitative research methods using a library research approach. The main data sources in this research are multicultural currents in the perspective of Pancasila, Islamic nationality, and research articles that are relevant to this research. Collecting data in this study through a search of scientific literature related to the theme of this research. The results of this research conclude that multicultural implementation in the perspective of Pancasila, Islam, and nationality can be by building a harmonious relationship through multicultural teaching exercises, especially instructive exercises to grow insight and get attention, mentality, and behavior towards strict regional diversity, social and local. Religion and Pancasila have a strong relationship so that there is never a conflict between the two.

MULTIKULTURAL PERSPEKTIF SOSIOLOGIS

This study discusses the concept of a multicultural society in a sociological perspective, where the Indonesian state as a gathering place for various ethnic groups, nations, religions and beliefs in its history has provided valuable lessons. There are times when diversity in Indonesia creates conflict, but in other places there is also the diversity that is owned by the Indonesian people as a source of strength to keep each other from being crushed by the progress of the times. Understanding multiculturalism is not something that must be owned by intellectuals or those from community leaders only, but all levels, layers, and lines of society become a necessity for the importance of understanding this multiculturalism. Because at this time the reality is that Indonesian people in general are very vulnerable to disaster due to SARA (ethnic, religion, race, and inter-group) issues that are blown by electronic media. In order to prevent "bloody conflict" disasters from happening again, multiculturalism will always be relevant to be discussed throughout the ages, considering that generations are always changing. The purpose of this study is to bring the understanding of multiculturalism in particular to the younger generation, and in general at all levels of society, not just an academic discourse. The method in writing this work uses library research, as well as by presenting examples of cases that have occurred in Indonesia. The results of the study in the discussion chapter, in general it can be concluded that the understanding of multiculturalism in Indonesia is not something that comes from outside, meaning that local wisdom created from ancient times has also strengthened the conditions of multicultural society. But on the other hand, unequal access to education by the community until now, the potential for horizontal conflict is always there. In the context of the consequences of a pluralistic society in Indonesia, that within a diverse structure, the seeds of conflict at times become a latent threat to damage the social order. And problems at the local level will easily become national problems because there are no longer limits for people to consume information
