The Spitzer–HETDEX Exploratory Large-Area Survey. IV. Model-based Multiwavelength Photometric Catalog

We present a 0.3–4.5 μm 16-band photometric catalog for the Spitzer/HETDEX Exploratory Large-Area (SHELA) survey. SHELA covers an ∼27 deg2 field within the footprint of the Hobby–Eberly Telescope Dark Energy Experiment (HETDEX). Here we present new DECam imaging and an rizK s band–selected catalog of four million sources extracted using a fully model-based approach. We validate our photometry by comparing with the model-based DECam Legacy Survey. We analyze the differences between model-based and aperture photometry by comparing with the previous SHELA catalog, finding that our model-based photometry can measure point sources to fainter fluxes and better capture the full emission of resolved sources. The catalog is 80% (50%) complete at riz ∼ 24.7 (25.1) AB mag, and the optical photometry reaches a 5σ depth of ∼25.5 AB mag. We measure photometric redshifts and achieve a 1σ scatter of Δz/(1 + z) of 0.04 with available spectroscopic redshifts at 0 ≤ z ≤ 1. This large-area, multiwavelength photometric catalog, combined with spectroscopic information from HETDEX, will enable a wide range of extragalactic science investigations.

The GLASS-JWST Early Release Science Program. II. Stage I Release of NIRCam Imaging and Catalogs in the Abell 2744 Region

We present images and a multiwavelength photometric catalog based on all of the JWST NIRCam observations obtained to date in the region of the Abell 2744 galaxy cluster. These data come from three different programs, namely, the GLASS-JWST Early Release Science Program, UNCOVER, and the Director’s Discretionary Time program 2756. The observed area in the NIRCam wide-band filters—covering the central and extended regions of the cluster, as well as new parallel fields—is 46.5 arcmin2 in total. All images in eight bands (F090W, F115W, F150W, F200W, F277W, F356W, F410M, and F444W) have been reduced adopting the latest calibration and reference files available. Data reduction has been performed using an augmented version of the official JWST pipeline, with improvements aimed at removing or mitigating defects in the raw images and improving the background subtraction and photometric accuracy. We obtain an F444W-detected multiband catalog, including all NIRCam and available Hubble Space Telescope data, adopting forced-aperture photometry on point-spread-function-matched images. The catalog is intended to enable early scientific investigations and is optimized for the study of faint galaxies; it contains 24,389 sources, with a 5σ limiting magnitude in the F444W band ranging from 28.5 AB to 30.5 AB, as a result of the varying exposure times of the surveys that observed the field. We publicly release the reduced NIRCam images, associated multiwavelength catalog, and the code adopted for 1/f noise removal with the aim of aiding users in familiarizing themselves with JWST NIRCam data and identifying suitable targets for follow-up observations.

VEXAS: VISTA EXtension to Auxiliary Surveys

Context.We present the first public data release of the VISTA EXtension to Auxiliary Surveys (VEXAS), comprising nine cross-matched multi-wavelength photometric catalogues where each object has a match in at least two surveys.Aims.Our aim is to provide spatial coverage that is as uniform as possible in the multi-wavelength sky and to provide the astronomical community with reference magnitudes and colours for various scientific uses: object classification (e.g. quasars, galaxies, and stars; high-zgalaxies, white dwarfs); photometric redshifts of large galaxy samples; searches of exotic objects (e.g. extremely red objects and lensed quasars).Methods.We cross-matched the wide-field VISTA catalogues (the VISTA Hemisphere Survey and the VISTA Kilo Degree Infrared Galaxy Survey) with the AllWISE mid-infrared Survey, requiring a match within 10″. We have further matched this table with X-ray and radio data (ROSAT, XMM, SUMSS). We also performed a second cross-match between VISTA and AllWISE, with a smaller matching radius (3″), including WISE magnitudes. We then cross-matched this resulting table (≈138 × 106objects) with three photometric wide-sky optical deep surveys (DES, SkyMapper, PanSTARRS). We finally included matches to objects with spectroscopic follow-up by the SDSS and 6dFGS.Results.To demonstrate the power of all-sky multi-wavelength cross-match tables, we show two examples of scientific applications of VEXAS, in particular using the publicly released tables to discover strong gravitational lenses (beyond the reach of previous searches) and to build a statistically large sample of extremely red objects.Conclusions.The VEXAS catalogue is currently the widest and deepest public optical-to-IR photometric and spectroscopic database in the southern hemisphere.

Hubble Frontier Field photometric catalogues of Abell 370 and RXC J2248.7−4431: multiwavelength photometry, photometric redshifts, and stellar properties

ABSTRACT This paper presents multiwavelength photometric catalogues of the last two Hubble Frontier Fields (HFFs), the massive galaxy clusters Abell 370 and RXC J2248.7−4431. The photometry ranges from imaging performed on the Hubble Space Telescope to ground-based Very Large Telescope and Spitzer/Infrared Array Camera, in collaboration with the ASTRODEEP team, and using the ASTRODEEP pipeline. While the main purpose of this paper is to release the catalogues, we also perform, as a proof of concept, a brief analysis of z > 6 objects selected using dropout method, as well as spectroscopically confirmed sources and multiple images in both clusters. While dropout methods yield a sample of high-z galaxies, the addition of longer wavelength data reveals that as expected the samples have substantial contamination at the ∼30–45 per cent level by dusty galaxies at lower redshifts. Furthermore, we show that spectroscopic redshifts are still required to unambiguously determine redshifts of multiply imaged systems. Finally, the now publicly available ASTRODEEP catalogues were combined for all HFFs and used to explore stellar properties of a large sample of 20 000 galaxies across a large photometric redshift range. The powerful magnification provided by the HFF clusters allows for an exploration of the properties of galaxies with intrinsic stellar masses as low as M* ≳ 107 M⊙ and intrinsic star formation rates ∼0.1–1 M⊙ yr−1 at z > 6.

SPLASH-SXDF Multi-wavelength Photometric Catalog

We present a multi-wavelength catalog in the Subaru-XMM Deep Field (SXDF) as part of the Spitzer Large Area Survey with Hyper-Suprime-Cam (SPLASH). We include the newly acquired optical data from the Hyper-Suprime Cam Subaru Strategic Program, accompanied by IRAC coverage from the SPLASH survey. All available optical and near-infrared data is homogenized and resampled on a common astrometric reference frame. Source detection is done using a multi-wavelength detection image including the $u$-band to recover the bluest objects. We measure multi-wavelength photometry and compute photometric redshifts as well as stellar masses for $\sim$1.17 million objects over $\sim$4.2 deg$^2$ with $\sim$800,000 objects in the 2.4 deg$^2$ HSC-UltraDeep coverage. Using the available spectroscopic redshifts from various surveys over the range of $0<z<6$, we verify the performance of the photometric redshifts and we find a normalized median absolute deviation of 0.023 and outlier fraction of 3.2%. The SPLASH-SXDF catalog is a valuable, publicly available resource that is perfectly suited for studying galaxies in the early universe and tracing their evolution through cosmic time. CANDELS Multi-wavelength Catalogs: Source Identification and Photometry in the CANDELS Extended Groth Strip

Abstract We present a 0.4–8 μm multi-wavelength photometric catalog in the Extended Groth Strip (EGS) field. This catalog is built on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) WFC3 and ACS data from the Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey (CANDELS), and it incorporates the existing HST data from the All-wavelength Extended Groth strip International Survey (AEGIS) and the 3D-HST program. The catalog is based on detections in the F160W band reaching a depth of F160W = 26.62 AB (90% completeness, point sources). It includes the photometry for 41,457 objects over an area of arcmin2 in the following bands: HST/ACS F606W and F814W; HST WFC3 F125W, F140W, and F160W; Canada–France–Hawaii Telescope (CFHT)/Megacam u*, , , and CFHT/WIRCAM J, H, and K S; Mayall/NEWFIRM J1, J2, J3, H1, H2, and K; Spitzer IRAC 3.6, 4.5, 5.8, and 8.0 μm. We are also releasing value-added catalogs that provide robust photometric redshifts and stellar mass measurements. The catalogs are publicly available through the CANDELS repository.

CANDELS MULTI-WAVELENGTH CATALOGS: SOURCE IDENTIFICATION AND PHOTOMETRY IN THE CANDELS COSMOS SURVEY FIELD

Abstract We present a multi-wavelength photometric catalog in the COSMOS field as part of the observations by the Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey. The catalog is based on Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3 (HST/WFC3) and Advanced Camera for Surveys observations of the COSMOS field (centered at R.A.: , Decl.: ). The final catalog has 38671 sources with photometric data in 42 bands from UV to the infrared ( ). This includes broadband photometry from HST, CFHT, Subaru, the Visible and Infrared Survey Telescope for Astronomy, and Spitzer Space Telescope in the visible, near-infrared, and infrared bands along with intermediate- and narrowband photometry from Subaru and medium-band data from Mayall NEWFIRM. Source detection was conducted in the WFC3 F160W band (at 1.6 μm) and photometry is generated using the Template FITting algorithm. We further present a catalog of the physical properties of sources as identified in the HST F160W band and measured from the multi-band photometry by fitting the observed spectral energy distributions of sources against templates.

The Integrated Cluster Finder for the ARCHES project

Context. Clusters of galaxies are important for cosmology and astrophysics. They may be discovered through either the summed optical/IR radiation originating from their member galaxies or via X-ray emission originating from the hot intracluster medium. X- ray samples are not affected by projection effects but a redshift determination typically needs optical and infrared follow-up to then infer X-ray temperatures and luminosities. Aims. We want to confirm serendipitously discovered X-ray emitting cluster candidates and measure their cosmological redshift through the analysis and exploration of multi-wavelength photometric catalogues. Methods. We developed a tool, the Integrated Cluster Finder (ICF), to search for clusters by determining overdensities of potential member galaxies in optical and infrared catalogues. Based on a spectroscopic meta-catalogue we calibrated colour-redshift relations that combine optical (SDSS) and IR data (UKIDSS, WISE). The tool is used to quantify the overdensity of galaxies against the background via a modified redMaPPer technique and to quantify the confidence of a cluster detection. Results. Cluster finding results are compared to reference catalogues found in the literature. The results agree to within 95-98%. The tool is used to confirm 488 out of 830 cluster candidates drawn from 3XMMe in the footprint of the SDSS and CFHT catalogues. Conclusions. The ICF is a flexible and highly efficient tool to search for galaxy clusters in multiple catalogues and is freely available to the community. It may be used to identify the cluster content in future X-ray catalogues from XMM-Newton and eventually from eROSITA.

The ASTRODEEP Frontier Fields catalogues

We present multiwavelength photometric catalogues (HST, Spitzer and Hawk-I K band) for the first two of the Frontier Fields, Abell2744 and MACSJ0416 (plus their parallel fields). To detect faint sources even in the central regions of the clusters, we develop a robust and repeatable procedure that uses the public codes Galapagos and Galfit to model and remove most of the light contribution from both the brightest cluster members as well as the ICL. We perform the detection on the HST H160 processed image to obtain a pure H-selected sample. We also add a sample of sources which are undetected in the H160 image but appear on a stacked infrared image. Photometry in the other HST bands is obtained using SExtractor, performed again on residual images after the Galfit procedure for foreground light removal. Photometry on the Hawk-I and IRAC bands has been obtained using our PSF-matching deconfusion code T-PHOT. A similar procedure, but without the need for the foreground light removal, is adopted for the Parallel fields. The procedure allows for the detection and the photometric measurements of ~2500 sources per field. We deliver and release complete photometric H-detected catalogues, with the addition of a complementary sample of infrared-detected sources. All objects have multiwavelength coverage including B to H HST bands, plus K band from Hawk-I, and 3.6 - 4.5 {\mu}m from Spitzer. Full and detailed treatment of photometric errors is included. We perform basic sanity checks on the reliability of our results. The multiwavelength catalogues are publicly available and are ready to be used for scientific purposes. Our procedures allows for the detection of outshined objects near the bright galaxies, which, coupled with the magnification effect of the clusters, can reveal extremely faint high redshift sources. DUST HEATING BY LOW-MASS STARS IN MASSIVE GALAXIES AT $z\lt 1$

Using the Hubble Space Telescope/Wide Field Camera 3 imaging data and multi-wavelength photometric catalog, we investigated the dust temperature of passively evolving and star-forming galaxies at 0.2<z<1.0 in the CANDELS fields. We estimated the stellar radiation field by low-mass stars from the stellar mass and surface brightness profile of these galaxies and then calculated their steady-state dust temperature. At first, we tested our method using nearby early-type galaxies with the deep FIR data by the Herschel Virgo cluster survey and confirmed that the estimated dust temperatures are consistent with the observed temperatures within the uncertainty. We then applied the method to galaxies at 0.2<z<1.0, and found that most of passively evolving galaxies with Mstar > 10^{10} Msun have a relatively high dust temperature of Tdust > 20 K, for which the formation efficiency of molecular hydrogen on the surface of dust grains in the diffuse ISM is expected to be very low from the laboratory experiments. The fraction of passively evolving galaxies strongly depends on the expected dust temperature at all redshifts and increases rapidly with increasing the temperature around Tdust ~ 20 K. These results suggest that the dust heating by low-mass stars in massive galaxies plays an important role for the continuation of their passive evolution, because the lack of the shielding effect of the molecular hydrogen on the UV radiation can prevent the gas cooling and formation of new stars.

Cluster membership probabilities from proper motions and multi-wavelength photometric catalogues

We present a new technique designed to take full advantage of the high dimensionality (photometric, astrometric, temporal) of the DANCe survey to derive self-consistent and robust membership probabilities of the Pleiades cluster. We aim at developing a methodology to infer membership probabilities to the Pleiades cluster from the DANCe multidimensional astro-photometric data set in a consistent way throughout the entire derivation. The determination of the membership probabilities has to be applicable to censored data and must incorporate the measurement uncertainties into the inference procedure. We use Bayes' theorem and a curvilinear forward model for the likelihood of the measurements of cluster members in the colour-magnitude space, to infer posterior membership probabilities. The distribution of the cluster members proper motions and the distribution of contaminants in the full multidimensional astro-photometric space is modelled with a mixture-of-Gaussians likelihood. We analyse several representation spaces composed of the proper motions plus a subset of the available magnitudes and colour indices. We select two prominent representation spaces composed of variables selected using feature relevance determination techniques based in Random Forests, and analyse the resulting samples of high probability candidates. We consistently find lists of high probability (p > 0.9975) candidates with $\approx$ 1000 sources, 4 to 5 times more than obtained in the most recent astro-photometric studies of the cluster. The methodology presented here is ready for application in data sets that include more dimensions, such as radial and/or rotational velocities, spectral indices and variability.

MOIRCS Deep Survey. IX. Deep Near-Infrared Imaging Data and Source Catalog

Abstract We present deep $J$-, $H$-, and $K_{\rm s}$-band imaging data of the MOIRCS Deep Survey (MODS), which was carried out with the Multi-Object Infrared Camera and Spectrograph (MOIRCS) mounted on the Subaru Telescope in the GOODS-North region. The data reach 5$\ \sigma$ total limiting magnitudes for point sources of $J$$=$ 23.9, $H$$=$ 22.8, and $K_{\rm s}$$=$ 22.8 (Vega magnitude) over 103 arcmin$^{2}$ (wide field). In 28 arcmin$^{2}$ of the survey area, which is an ultra-deep field of the MODS (deep field), the data reach 5$\ \sigma$ depths of $J$$=$ 24.8, $H$$=$ 23.4, and $K_{\rm s}$$=$ 23.8. The spatial resolutions of the combined images are FWHM $\sim\ $0$''\!\!\!.$6 and $\sim\ $0$''\!\!\!.$5 for the wide and deep fields in all bands, respectively. Combining the MODS data with the multi-wavelength public data taken with the HST, Spitzer, and other ground-based telescopes in the GOODS field, we constructed a multi-wavelength photometric catalog of $K_{\rm s}$-selected sources. Using the catalog, we present $K_{\rm s}$-band number counts and near-infrared color distribution of the detected objects; we also demonstrate some selection techniques with the NIR colors for high redshift galaxies. These data and catalog are publicly available via Internet.
