The Influence of Swimming Athletes’ Burnout on Their Sports Participation Motivation in Hunan, China

Objective: This study aims to explore the effect of swimming athletes’ burnout on their sports motivation in Hunan University, China. It seeks to understand how burnout influences various motivational factors, providing insights for optimizing swimming sports courses and enhancing student participation. Method: Employing random sampling, the study surveyed 260 swimming athletes from Hunan University. The research utilized a questionnaire divided into three parts: demographic information, the Athlete Burnout Questionnaire (ABQ), and the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI). Pearson’s r correlation analysis was conducted using SPSS to examine the relationships between burnout dimensions and motivational factors. Results: The study found significant correlations between a reduced sense of accomplishment and various motivational dimensions, including “interest/enjoyment,” “perceived competence,” “perceived choice,” and particularly “perceived tension.” Physical exhaustion showed a significant correlation only with “perceived tension,” indicating a strong link between psychological stress and physical fatigue. Sports devaluation was significantly correlated with “perceived tension,” suggesting that psychological stress impacts athletes’ valuation of their sport. Conclusion: The findings highlight the complex interplay between burnout and motivation in swimming athletes. Psychological stress, as indicated by “perceived tension,” emerges as a key factor influencing both the physical and emotional aspects of burnout. The study underscores the need for holistic training approaches that balance physical training with psychological well-being, personalized coaching, and supportive environments to enhance intrinsic motivation and manage stress effectively.

Investigation of sports participation motivation in people with disabilities: a cross-sectional study of individuals with physical and hearing impairments

While reading the literature, it is seen that there are not enough studies on the motivation of disabled individuals to participate in sports. This study aims to examine the sports participation motivations of hearing impaired and physically disabled athletes. This study was a cross-sectional study. The research group of the study consists of physically and hearing-impaired individuals between the ages of 18–47. The participants of this research group consisted of 253 volunteer disabled individuals, 150 of whom were men and 103 of whom were women. Sports participation motivation scale was used for disabled individuals. The scale consists of 3 dimensions and is a 5-point Likert type. The results of the study showed that hearing-impaired people have a higher high school rate and physically person with disability have a higher bachelor’s degree rate, but the primary education rate did not change between hearing and physically person with disability. Physical activity participation differed between hearing and physically person with disability, and it was observed that hearing-impaired people participated in more physical activities. The level of well-being of the physically disabled was significantly better than the hearing impaired. As conclusion, it is observed that the people with the lowest motivation to participate in sports are primary school graduates and those with high welfare have a high motivation to participate in sports.

Motivation Profiles of Football Players: B2-B3 A Study on Individuals with Visual Challenges

ABSTRACTVisual impairment is a significant inhibiting factor that affects individuals' daily lives. However, in recent years, it has been recognized that sports have a positive impact on the lives of visually impaired individuals and enhance their quality of life. Sports have become an important tool in meeting the physical, psychological, and social needs of visually impaired individuals. Therefore, understanding and evaluating the participation motivation of visually impaired individuals in sports is crucial to enrich their sports experiences and maximize their potential. In this regard, this study assesses the participation motivation of B2-B3 visually impaired football players who participate in indoor football within the conceptual framework of Goal-Setting Theory proposed by Locke Latham. The data from B2-B3 visually impaired football players were collected using the Sports Participation Motivation Scale for Disabled Individuals developed by Demir et al., and the collected data were analyzed by applying inferential statistical tests using the SPSS program. According to the findings, there were no significant differences in terms of age and years of sports participation for the variables of intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and amotivation. However, regarding the time of onset of disability, it was observed that there was a significant difference in the amotivation subscale, with congenitally visually impaired individuals having higher average scores. In conclusion, this study sheds light on the multifaceted nature of participation motivation among B2-B3 visually impaired football players, emphasizing the need for tailored approaches that consider individual characteristics to enhance their sports experiences and maximize their potential.Keywords: B2-B3, Football Players, Motivation, Participation in Sports, Visually Impaired

Virtual Reality-Based Cooperative Learning in Physical Education: Ways to Improve Physical Performance and Motivation of Students

This article aims to explore the potential benefits of a virtual reality platform in cooperative learning. The study involved 48 freshman students in the table tennis class of Xinxiang Medical University. They were divided into control groups (M = 19.48, SD = 0.37) and experimental groups (M = 19.68, SD = 0.51). The Holofit platform and the model of cooperative learning principles served as an influence. The research utilized the Chinese Sport Motivation Scale-II (CSMS-II) and five physical fitness assessment tests as primary instruments. Following the intervention, a discernible reduction of 2.08 in mean scores within the amotivation subscale was observed in contrast to the pre-test. Conversely, positive shifts were noted in external regulation (1.88), introjected regulation (2.20), identified regulation (1.28), integrated regulation (1.48), and intrinsic motivation (1.96) subscales. Intragroup analyses, comparing pre-and post-test results, unveiled significant improvements in physical fitness indicators over six months for both the intervention and control groups. However, upon intergroup comparisons, it was discerned that the intervention failed to yield a statistically significant enhancement in physical performance in comparison to the traditional approach. Statistically significant distinctions were evident between the intervention and control groups across all CSMS-II subscales, signifying a demonstrable positive influence of cooperative learning and virtual reality on motivation for sports participation.

Analysis of the sports participation motives of high school students (the example of Malatya)

In this study, the objective is to analyse the sports participation motives of high school students by gender, age, school type and doing sports regularly. In the research “relational screening model” was used. 770 high school students studying in Malatya participated in the research. In the research, “Sport Participation Motivation Scale” was used. The scale was delivered to the students over various social media tools through the Google survey application. As a result of the research, it was observed that age, gender, school type and doing sports regularly affect the sports participation motives of the students at different levels. On the other hand, the results of the research revealed that the high school students participated in sports by getting affected from different motives. Furthermore, it was observed that the female students had overcome their fears and concerns about sports participation, and they were willing to make use of sports more to meet their physical, spiritual and social needs. The results of the research also show that regular sports activities have a positive effect on sports participation and the students take this effect for granted

Investigation of physical self-perception and sports participation motivations of physically disabled individuals

This research was conducted with the aim of examining the physical self-perceptions of individuals with physical disabilities and their motivation to participate in sports. Data were collected from a total of 459 physically disabled individuals, 280 males, and 179 females, using the "Personal Demographic Information Form", the "Physical Self-Perception for Children and Young People (CY-PSPP) Inventory" developed by Whitehead (1995), and the "Motivation Scale for Sports Participation in Disabled Individuals" developed by Tekkurşun (2018). In the research, the T-Test and One-Way ANOVA analysis were used to determine the differences between demographic variables, the Post-Hoc Tukey test was used to determine the differences between groups, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationships between variables. When sports participation motivation is examined by gender, it was found that there was no statistically significant difference in the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation sub-dimensions; It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference in the amotivation sub-dimension. According to the disability type variable, there was no statistically significant difference in the physical strength sub-dimension; It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference in the sub-dimensions of general self, physical self, physical condition, sports competence and physical attractiveness. When physical self-perception was examined according to gender variable, it was found that there was no statistically significant difference in the sub-dimensions of general self, physical attractiveness, and physical strength; It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference in the sub-dimensions of physical self, physical condition and sports competence. According to the disability type variable, there was no statistically significant difference in the physical strength sub-dimension; It was determined that there was a statistically significant difference in the sub-dimensions of general self, physical self, physical condition, sports competence and physical attractiveness. Again, age and active sports variables were examined in our research, and different results were obtained in their sub-dimensions. If disabled individuals are provided with a closer bond to society through sports, they will have a stronger physical self-perception and increase their motivation to participate in sports.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu players' motivations to train.

Combat sports, such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), require intense physical, mental, and emotional tasking within its training. With the degree of difficulty ingrained within the sport, many participants that once were intrigued by the sport may lose this interest and enjoyment if their goals are not met. The purpose of this study was to examine the relative strength of sport motivations among BJJ players. Participants included 228 BJJ athletes varying in levels of sport participation experience. Grounded in Self-Determination Theory, participants were assessed on five motives for sport participation including: fitness, appearance, competence, social, and interest/enjoyment. Motives related to interest/enjoyment, competence, and fitness, were rated relatively higher; and appearance and social were rated relatively lower regarding participants' motivation for BJJ participation. Analyses were also conducted related to athletes' years of experience and competitive level of participation (i.e., hobbyist or non-competitor to those who compete on a regular basis) There was a significant effect of competence and interest/enjoyment motivators among competitive BJJ players, regardless of years of experience in the sport. Findings from this study could aid coaches, sport clinicians, and sport psychologists in working with BJJ players by focusing their training on the motivators that are most appealing to these athletes.

This study was to analyze the behavioral intentions of Chinese students studying in South Korea to participate in leisure sports. To this end, hypotheses were tested by using the Extended Theory of Reasoning Behavior(TRA) of motivation for recreational sports participation. The researchers surveyed 275 Chinese international students in Korea. This study was used to the structural equation modeling(SEM) of AMOS and SPSS as the research method. As a result, motivation to participate in recreational sports influences attitudes, and attitudes and subjective norms influence behavioral intentions. In this respect, the rational behavior theory newly proposed by this research model is expected to serve as the baseline data for future research on the behavior analysis of international students studying in the South Korea.

Predicting Quality of Life in Women with Breast Cancer Who Engage in Physical Exercise: The Role of Psychological Variables.

In this study, we aimed to conduct a descriptive analysis of the primary physiological and psychological factors influencing the quality of life in women with breast cancer who engage in physical exercise. The study examined the key psychological variables predicting patients' quality of life, perceived support from family and friends, and the perception of physical condition. The sample consisted of 46 women from Cáceres (Spain) aged between 30 and 75 years undergoing breast cancer treatment. The Functional Evaluation Scale in Cancer Therapy (FACT-B+4) was used to measure quality of life; the Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction Scale was used to measure autonomy, competence, and social relationships; the Behavior Regulation Questionnaire in Exercise (BREQ-3) was used to measure the types of self-determined motivation for sports participation; the General Evaluation of Self-Esteem Scale was used to measure self-esteem; the International Fitness Scale (IFIS) was used to measure perceived physical condition; and the Perceived Autonomy Support Scale for Exercise Settings (PASSES) was used to measure the perceived autonomy support from family and friends. A multiple regression analysis revealed that perceived physical condition and self-esteem were significant positive predictors of a variance in quality of life, while intrinsic motivation did not significantly predict it. The findings underscore the importance of promoting autonomous motivation in patients to enhance their physical and psychological well-being through physical activity.

A Comparative Study of Motivation in Sports Training among Senior and Junior Professional Football Players in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the COVID-19 Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought significant changes to the lives of athletes, particularly regarding the uncertainty surrounding the continuation of sports training and the postponement of sporting events. Given these disruptions to athletes’ routines, the role of motivation in sports participation is considered even more crucial. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the differences in motivation for sports participation during the Covid-19 pandemic between senior and junior professional football players. The sample consisted of 358 elite football players from the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The players were divided into two groups: senior (n=193, 24.87±3.78 years) and junior (n=165, 18.08±1.00 years) football players. The Participation Motivation Questionnaire (PMQ) was utilized, comprising 19 items classified into six motivational dimensions: “Sports success”, “Social status”, “Friendship”, “Physical health”, “Sports activity”, and “Support”. A five-point Likert scale was used in the questionnaire, which was administered electronically via Google Forms. Results revealed that junior football players achieved significantly higher values in only three out of the 19 items: “Want to be popular” (.005), “Want to get status” (.001), and “Wished for friendly games” (.000). However, there were no differences between the senior and junior football player groups in the remaining 16 items. Also, both groups displayed exceptionally high motivation levels in the dimensions of “Sports success”, “Physical health”, and “’Friendship”, while the weakest results were observed in the dimension of ‘Support’ for both groups. Despite the specific challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the motivation to play football remains very high among both senior and junior football players. This study is essential as it provides insights into football players’ motivation and identifies differences in motivation levels between junior and senior players. The findings can be valuable for practical purposes, aiming to enhance motivation among football players, especially during circumstances where training conditions are disrupted, such as the Covid-19 pandemic.

Motives for physical activity participation among Lebanese adults aged 15 to 50 Years: A cross-sectional study

Background: Sports participation motivations can be intrinsic, extrinsic, or even amotivational. Few studies on adult participation in PA have been found in the Lebanese context. This study aims to: a) investigate significant differences in sports participation motivation across gender, age, occupation, and time of practice, and b) investigate sports participation motives that discriminated the best between those variables.Material and methods: The Arabic version of the Sport Motivation Scale was collected electronically from 568 volunteers practicing regular PA for the last six months. Gender, occupation, marital status, and time of practice were all analyzed using Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal Wallis Test with 0.05 as level of significance.Results: Internal motivation subscales (particularly the intention to accomplish) were the most influential motives for both genders. A significant difference across gender was reported in the extrinsic motivation and amotivation subscales. Furthermore, age, occupation, marital status, and time of practice show significant differences in motivation factors either dependent or regardless of gender distribution (p<0.05).Conclusion: no significant differences in the intrinsic motivation for sports participation between genders. Other factors, on the other hand, had a substantial impact.Research contribution: these findings are intended to contribute to a better understanding of differences in motivation for participating in PA and to aid in its promotion among Lebanese adults.

INVESTIGAÇÃO SOBRE HÁBITOS RELACIONADOS AO ESPORTE EM ESTUDANTES UNIVERSITÁRIOS APÓS EPIDEMIA DE COVID-19

ABSTRACT Introduction: China's covid-19 epidemic is under control. Universities and schools across the country have resumed physical education classes, but the mental health knowledge of college students in the aftermath of the covid-19 outbreak has not been investigated. Objective: To study college students’ mental health and sports-related habits after the covid-19 outbreak. Methods: This study comprehensively used literature materials, expert interviews, mathematical statistics, and other methods to study the sports-related attitudes and health awareness of college students before and after the outbreak of the new epidemic, examining the health knowledge domain of college students. Results: In the survey dimensions related to students’ sports knowledge, the highest mean score was for “emotional control” at 3.48, followed by “participation motivation” at 3.41 and “participation attitude” at 3.35. The scores of sports participation attitude, motivation, and sports emotion for males were equal and higher than in females, where the measures of emotional factors and motivation to participate reached significant levels. After the epidemic, the mean scores for students’ participation attitude, sports emotion, and motivation to participate in sports exceeded the theoretical mean. Conclusion: After the health awareness and prevention work in the community and school network, university students’ sports attitudes and awareness improved significantly compared to before the Covid-19 outbreak. Digitalization of physical education and its impact on academic performance among secondary school students in Aktobe and Orenburg

ABSTRACT This study aims to generate instructions for physical education teachers on how to improve physical fitness of students and enhance their physical development using digital applications. For this, the physical development levels of middle school students were analyzed. The secondary goal is to determine how effective the digital learning tools are in enhancing the quality of physical education in the university setting. The present empirical study focuses on evaluating physical readiness of 172 seventh grade students in cities of Aktobe and Orenburg. Pearson correlation was used to establish a connection between the mentioned indicators. Digital technologies have proven effective in enhancing student motivation for sports participation. Specifically, 69% of the respondents said they would be more motivated to participate in sports if there were digital apps or social networks used in the learning process. The results of the study show direct and inverse correlations between test results and physical markers of fitness. Based on the correlations established, the current study also provides physical training guidelines for physical education teachers and middle school students.

Exploration of Sports Participation and Curriculum Resource Utilization in Primary Schools Before and After the "Double Reduction".

In order to eliminate capital chaos in the Education And Training (EAT) industry and ease parents' and students' excessive attention to subject achievements over physical quality, China government has launched the “Double Reduction” (“DR”) policy which promotes students' Sports Participation (SP) in the Compulsory Education (CE) stage concerning students' physical and mental health. Firstly, based on the actual situation of students' SP before and after releasing the “DR” policy, this paper understands the exact needs of parents and children. Secondly, following empirical research and mathematical statistics, it analyzes the structure and characteristics of students' SP before and after the release of the “DR” policy. Mainly, the experiment focuses on the frequency, project types, and off-campus class expenditure. It also considers students' SP motivation in on-campus and off-campus sports classes before and after the “DR” policy proposal. Additionally the general curriculum resource utilization of PE teachers are surveyed in order to find out the current status of on-campus PE classes. Eventually, the strategies are put forward to optimize students' SP under the “DR” from the perspectives of family, school, and society. The results show that after the release of “DR”, parents and schools gradually pay attention to student's physical health and better understand students' physical exercise in school. The consumption expenditure on sports off-campus classes has increased significantly. Meanwhile, family income and the father's occupation significantly impact the children's SP frequency in off-campus sports classes. Overall, “DR” is a protracted war. The existing difficulties need to be solved by families, schools, and the government. The research provides a practical basis for extending and managing on-campus sports classes and training. It helps timely uncover the problems in policy implementation. It guides the formulation of PE policy in the next stage of CE.

Empowered, Yet Vulnerable: Motives for Sport Participation, Health Correlates, and Experience of Sexual Harassment in Female Combat-Sport Athletes.

Background: To explore motives for combat sport participation, weight regulation practices, symptoms of low energy availability (LEA), disordered eating (DE) or eating disorders (ED), and any experiences with sexual harassment (SH) among female combat-sport athletes. Methods: In total, 29 athletes were recruited by social media and in clubs. Participants responded to a questionnaire on health behavior and mental health and completed diet registration and a DXA-scan. Results: Most athletes started combat sports to feel empowered and experienced an inclusive milieu, but the frequency of health issues was high. A total of 21–67% had symptoms of ED, suffered from injuries, had low site-specific BMD, and/or symptoms of LEA. Athletes had insufficient intake of energy and nutrients, and <50% received any dietary information or guidance from their clubs. Most athletes complied with favorable weight-loss strategies; still, >20% used unfavorable methods and rapid weight-loss periods. A total of 70% of the athletes had experienced SH, of which 41% experienced SH within the combat-sport context. Conclusion: Combat sport offers an inclusive milieu, which may increase women’s health and confidence; still, our results indicates a need for actions to safeguard female combat-sport athletes’ mental and physical health, implying a cultural change within the community of combat sport and a need for increased health and nutrition literacy.

An Empirical Study of Participation Motivation on College Students’ Sports Participation Behavior

The sports participation motivation has an important influence on the sports participation behavior of college students. The paper adopts the empirical research method of questionnaire survey, based on 1480 samples from more than a dozen colleges and universities, through statistical analysis, to explore the influence of sports participation motivation on college students’ sports participation behavior. The study found that: there is a significant correlation between the participation motivation and college students’ sports participation behavior. The research conclusion has important theoretical significance for stimulating the college students’ sports participation motivation by various methods and guiding them to be active in the sports participation.

Investigation of Sports Participation Motivation and Self-Efficacy Levels of Sports Sciences Faculty Students

Bu araştırmada Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencilerinin çeşitli değişkenlere göre öz yeterlik düzeylerinin ve spora katılım motivasyonlarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma grubunu, 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılında çeşitli üniversitelerin Spor Bilimleri Fakültelerinde okuyan 136 (%62.4)’sı kadın ve 82 (%37.6)’si erkek olmak üzere toplam 218 Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencileri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Genel Öz Yeterlik Ölçeği ve Spora Katılım Motivasyonu Envanteri kullanılmıştır. Verilerin normal dağılım gösterip göstermediğini tespit etmek için Shapiro-Wilk testi uygulanmıştır. Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencilerinin cinsiyet ve lisans durumu değişkenlerine ait verilerin analizinde Bağımsız-Örneklem T Testi uygulanmıştır. Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencilerinin yaş, bölüm ve sınıf değişkenlerinin analizinde Tek-Yönlü ANOVA testi uygulanmıştır. Tek-Yönlü ANOVA testi sonucunda anlamlı farklılıkların hangi gruplar arasında olduğunu belirlemek için Post Hoc testlerinden LSD yapılmıştır. Araştırmada ortaya çıkan bulgulara göre Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencilerinin spora katılım motivasyonları ve öz yeterlik düzeylerinde cinsiyet, yaş, bölüm, sınıf ve lisans durumu değişkenleri arasında anlamlı farklar tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları incelendiğinde cinsiyetin, yaşın, bölümün, sınıfın ve lisans durumunun Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencilerinin spora katılım motivasyonlarının ve öz yeterlik düzeylerini belirleyicileri arasında yer aldığı söylenebilir.
