Secondary electron emission measurements from imidazolium-based ionic liquids

Abstract The electron-induced secondary electron emission (SEE) yields of imidazolium-based ionic liquids are presented for primary electron beam energies between 30 and 1000 eV. These results are important for understanding plasma synthesis of nanoparticles in plasma discharges with an ionic liquid electrode. Due to their low vapor pressure and high conductivity, ionic liquids can produce metal nanoparticles in low-pressure plasmas through reduction of dissolved metal salts. In this work, the low vapor pressure of ionic liquids is exploited to directly measure SEE yields by bombarding the liquid with electrons and measuring the resulting currents. The ionic liquids studied are [BMIM][Ac], [EMIM][Ac], and [BMIM][BF4]. The SEE yields vary significantly over the energy range, with maximum yields of around 2 at 200 eV for [BMIM][Ac] and [EMIM][Ac], and 1.8 at 250 eV for [BMIM][BF4]. Molecular orbital calculations indicate that the acetate anion is the likely electron donor for [BMIM][Ac] and [EMIM][Ac], while in [BMIM][BF4], the electrons likely originate from the [BMIM]$^+$ cation. The differences in SEE yields are attributed to varying ionization potentials and molecular structures of the ionic liquids. These findings are essential for accurate modeling of plasma discharges and understanding SEE mechanisms in ionic liquids.

New Catalytic Residues and Catalytic Mechanism of the RNase T1 Family.

The ribonuclease T1 family, including RNase Po1 secreted by Pleurotus ostreatus, exhibits antitumor activity. Here, we resolved the Po1/guanosine-3'-monophosphate complex (3'GMP) structure at 1.75 Å. Structure comparison and fragment molecular orbital (FMO) calculation between the apo form and the Po1/3'GMP complex identified Phe38, Phe40, and Glu42 as the key binding residues. Two types of the RNase/3'GMP complex in RNasePo1 and RNase T1 were homologous to Po1, and FMO calculations elucidated that the biprotonated histidine on the β3 sheet (His36) on the β3 sheet and deprotonated Glu54 on the β4 sheet were advantageous to RNase activity. Moreover, tyrosine (Tyr34) on the β3 sheet was elucidated as a crucial catalytic residues. Mutation of Tyr34 with phenylalanine decreased RNase activity and diminished antitumor efficacy compared to that in the wild type. This suggests the importance of RNase activity in antitumor mechanisms.

Does Positron Attachment Take Place in Water Solution?

We performed a computational study of positron attachment to hydrated amino acids, namely glycine, alanine, and proline in the zwitterionic form. We combined the sequential quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (s-QM/MM) method with various levels of any particle molecular orbital (APMO) calculations. Consistent with previous studies, our calculations indicate the formation of energetically stable states for the isolated and microsolvated amino acids, in which the positron localizes around the carboxylate group. However, for the larger clusters, composed of 7 to 40 water molecules, hydrogen bonding between the solute and solvent molecules disfavors positron attachment to the amino acids, giving rise to surface states in which the positron is located around the water-vacuum interface. The analysis of positron binding energies, positronic orbitals, radial probability distributions, and annihilation rates consistently pointed out the change from positron-solute to positron-solvent states. Even with the inclusion of an electrostatic embedding around the aggregates, the positrons did not localize around the solute. Positron attachment to molecules in the gas phase is a well-established fact. The existence of hydrated positronic molecules could also be expected from the analogy with transient anion states, which are believed to participate in radiation damage. Our results indicate that positron attachment to hydrated biomolecules, even to zwitterions with negatively charged carboxylated groups, would not take place. For the larger clusters, in which positron-water interactions are favored, the calculations indicate an unexpectedly large contribution of the core orbitals to the annihilation rates, between 15 and 20%. Finally, we explored correlations between positron binding energies (PBEs) and dipole moments, as well as annihilation rates and PBEs, consistent with previous studies for smaller clusters.

Bonding and Interactions in UO22+ for Ground and Core Excited States: Extracting Chemistry from Molecular Orbital Calculations.

Theoretical analyses of actinyls are necessary in order to understand and correctly interpret the chemical and physical properties of these molecules. Here, wave functions of Uranyl, UO22+, are considered for the ground state and for the core excited states where an electron is promoted from the U 3d5/2 shell into a low-lying unoccupied orbital that is U 5f antibonding with the ligand, O, orbitals. A focus is on the application of novel theoretical methods to the analysis of these wave functions so that measurements, especially with X-ray absorption, can be related to the UO22+ chemical bonding. The bond covalency is examined with these theoretical methods. The study includes how the covalent character is different for the ground and excited configurations and how this character changes as the U-O distance is changed. Furthermore, analyses are mode of how many-body effects may modify excitation energies and X-ray adsorption intensities. This includes determining the extent to which a single configuration provides a satisfactory model for the UO22+ wave functions. Two distinct types of many-body effects are considered. One involves the angular momentum coupling of the open shell electrons in the excited states to yield correct multiplets. The second adds excitations from shells that are bonding into the antibonding open shell space. These excitations are essential to properly describe the X-ray adsorption. While these many-body effects must be taken into account, their importance and their role can be explained and understood using orbitals and orbital occupations.

Synergistic interaction of S-type heterojunction and sulfur vacancies in g-C3N5@Sv-ZnIn2S4 composites: Simultaneous promotion of complete 2,4-dichlorophenol mineralization and Cr(VI) reduction

Constructing efficient heterojunction photocatalysts is an effective measure for degrading pesticides and reducing heavy metals. In this study, g-C3N5@Sv-ZnIn2S4 (g-C3N5@Sv-ZIS) composite with large specific surface area has been successfully prepared by a simple low-temperature water bath method. The g-C3N5@Sv-ZIS composite showed complete mineralization of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) and reduction of Cr(VI) within 60 min. The results of electron spin resonance spectroscopy, photoelectrochemical characterization, and energy band structure calculations indicated the formation of an S-type heterojunction at the interface of g-C3N5 and Sv-ZIS. In situ XPS analysis showed the transfer of photogenerated charges from g-C3N5 to Sv-ZIS. The molecular structure of 2,4-DCP was analyzed using frontier molecular orbital and electrostatic potential calculations. The possible degradation pathways of 2,4-DCP were proposed based on liquid chromatography– mass spectrometry results. Biotoxicity simulations of the intermediates revealed decreased toxicities. Furthermore, The kinetic rate constant of CZSv-200 for degrading 2,4-DCP and Cr(Ⅵ) in deionized water was approximately 2.20, 3.10 and 2.46, 4.03 times higher than that in lake and sewage plant water, respectively. The composites designed in this study provide reliable theoretical support for the removal of composite pollutants.

Quantum Chemical Stability Analysis of Phthalocyanine Metal One-Dimensional Polymers with Bidentate Ligands.

The combination of metal-phthalocyanine complexes and axially coordinated organic molecules into polymer chains presents a significant challenge in the synthesis of hybrid materials. A calculated structure for one-dimensional coordinate polymers with N-donor ligands using ab initio (PM6) and DFT (LanL2Dz) methods is presented. DFT methods have shown that there is a linear, one-dimensional structure without distorted geometry for the two bipyridine ligands. The components of the proposed polymers consist of square-planar Zn complexes of phthalocyanine (PcZn) connected via bridging ligands (L). Electronic properties of the monomer PcZnL of zinc phthalocyanine with bidentate ligands have been analyzed using calculations based on density functional theory (B3LYP6-31G(d,p)). Molecular orbital calculations show that this connection between the metallomacrocycle and the conjugated ligand results in a small energy gap, promising molecularly active materials as conductors. The crystallographic reports indicate that obtaining this kind of polymer with the participation of Pc Zn and bidentate ligands is possible.

The possibility of using the Zn (II) Butadiyne-linked porphyrin nanoring for detection and adsorption of AsH3, NO2, H2O, SO2, CS2, CO, and CO2 gases

The present research aims to study the probability of applying the Zn (II)-Butadiyne-linked porphyrin (ZBPN) nanoring for detection and adsorption of some of the most important air pollutants such as AsH3, NO2, H2O, SO2, CS2, CO, and CO2 gases by using the density functional theory (DFT) method. The key results of the thermodynamic calculations indicated that ZBPN nanoring is able to absorb SO2, AsH3, NO2, and H2O gases; while, it could not strongly adsorb CS2, CO, or CO2. Subsequent to the thermodynamic results, the changes of band gaps and the frontier molecular orbital (FMO) calculations show that ZBPN nanoring might release stronger signals in the presence of SO2 (σ = 1.64(1010) s), AsH3 (σ = 1.35(1010) s), and H2O (σ = 1.11(1010) s) single molecules compared to the other considered ones. Therefore, ZBPN could be used as a relatively good sensor for detection of SO2, AsH3, and H2O (compared to CS2, CO, CO2, and NO2 gases). Regarding the key findings of this research, it hopes that in the future, the results of the work be helpful for experimental synthesis of ZBPN nanoring for adsorption and sensing of the mentioned gases.

A comprehensive investigation on one-pot synthesis of imidazole derivatives: quantum computational analysis, molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations and antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2

New derivatives of 4-(2-(2-(2,3-dihydrobenzo[b][1,4]dioxin-6-yl)-4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)ethyl)morpholine (DDIM) have been successfully synthesised and characterised using spectral methods such as FT-IR, 1H NMR, and 13C NMR. Density functional theory (DFT) with the B3LYP/6-311G (d, p) level of theory was used to determine optimised bond parameters and single crystal XRD investigations confirmed the structure of DDIM. The results of single crystal XRD measurements aligned well with the optimised geometrical parameters from DFT calculations. Frontier molecular orbital computations provided insights into the molecule's stability, chemical reactivity and charge transfer. Atomic charges were determined using mulliken population analysis. The molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) mapped to electron density surfaces identified potential reactive sites. This molecule shows promise as a potential NLO material due to its high μβ0 value. Binding affinities were determined via molecular docking against the COVID-19 major protease (Mpro: 6WCF/6Y84/6LU7). A 100 ns molecular dynamics simulation under in silico physiological conditions confirmed the stability of the complex structure formed with the COVID-19 protein, revealing a stable conformation and binding pattern in an imidazole derivative environment. Additionally, in-silico analysis predicted favourable to moderate anti-viral activity and anticipated the compound's absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) profiles.

Synthesis of Quinoline-Based Pt-Sb Complexes with L- or Z-Type Interaction: Ligand-Controlled Redox via Anion Transfer.

A series of Pt-Sb complexes with two or three L-type quinoline side arms were prepared and studied. Two ligands, tri(8-quinolinyl)stibane (SbQ3, Q = 8-quinolinyl, 1) and 8,8'-(phenylstibanediyl)diquinoline (SbQ2Ph, 2), were used to synthesize the PtII-SbIII complexes (SbQ3)PtCl2 (3) and (SbQ2Ph)PtCl2 (4). Chloride abstraction with AgOAc provided the bis-acetate complexes (SbQ3)Pt(OAc)2 (5) and (SbQ2Ph)Pt(OAc)2 (6). To better understand the electronic effects of the Sb moiety, analogous bis-chloride complexes were oxidized to an overall formal oxidation state of +7 (i.e., Pt + Sb formal oxidation states = 7) using dichloro(phenyl)-λ3-iodane (PhICl2) and 3,4,5,6-tetrachloro-1,2-dibenzoquinone (o-chloranil) as two-electron oxidants. Depending on the oxidant, different conformational changes occur within the coordination sphere of Pt as confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and NMR spectroscopy. In addition, the nature of Pt-Sb interactions was evaluated via molecular and localized orbital calculations.

Presenting a new fluorescent probe, methyl(10-phenylphenanthren-9-yl)sulfane sensitive to the polarity and rigidity of the microenvironment: applications toward microheterogeneous systems.

A molecule, methyl(10-phenylphenanthren-9-yl)sulfane (MPPS), with a straightforward structure, has been synthesized, characterized, and explored as a new fluorescent probe for microheterogeneous systems. The photophysical properties of MPPS have been studied through experimental and theoretical calculations using the range-separated hybrid functional CAM-B3LYP in conjunction with a 6-311++g(d,p) basis set. Theoretical calculations show that the freely rotating phenyl ring forms a 94° dihedral angle with the phenanthrene ring in the ground state. Experimentally found two absorption bands correspond to the n → π* and π → π* transitions supported by the frontier molecular orbital calculations. Two excited singlet states, E-1 and E-2 (the former being more stable than the latter in the gas phase), exist with dihedral angles between the phenyl and phenanthrene rings as 142° and 133°, respectively, in the gas phase. Two emitting states in a condensed medium of varying polarities are supported by the steady-state fluorescence and fluorescence intensity decay data. Emission energies, fluorescence intensities, and excited singlet state lifetimes change with the polarity of the solvents. To support that the free rotation in the molecule is responsible for these changes, the fluorescence properties of another molecule, methyl(10-(o-tolyl)phenanthren-9-yl)sulfane (MTPS), with restricted rotation of the substituted benzene, i.e., o-tolyl ring have been studied. The fast-intensity decay component of MPPS is ascribed to the conformer in the E-1 state. The molecule has proved to be an excellent polarity probe explored to determine the critical micelle concentrations (cmc) values of different surfactants, which agree well with the literature reports. Different regions of binding isotherm (specific, non-cooperative, cooperative, and massive binding) of a gemini surfactant, 12-6-12,2Br- with bovine serum albumin (BSA) have been successfully demonstrated by the steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence and fluorescence anisotropic properties of MPPS. Docking results show that MPPS resides in the hydrophobic pocket of BSA. The fluorescence quenching of BSA by MPPS reveals the location of Trp residues of BSA. Thus, a polarity and molecular rigidity-sensitive fluorescent molecule, MPPS has been presented here that can potentially be used to monitor the changes in the microenvironment of biomolecules in different processes.

Experimental and theoretical investigations for novel 6-nitroquinoxaline-2,3‑dione derivatives: Synthesis, characterization, DFT calculations, ADME analysis, hirshfeld surface calculations, molecular docking studies, and antiproliferation evaluation

This work describes the synthesis of eight different 6-nitro-1,4-disubstituted-quinoxaline-2,3‑dione derivatives (4a-h). The starting material, 6-nitroquinoxaline-2,3‑dione 3 was prepared by reacting 4-nitro-o-phenylenediamine 1 with oxalic acid 2 at reflux in hydrochloric acid. Compound 3 was alkylated with various alkyl halides under solid-liquid phase transfer catalysis (PTC) to give the dialkyl quinoxalines (4a-h). The structures of all compounds obtained were elucidated based on spectroscopic measurements: 1H, 13C NMR, MS and UV spectroscopy and confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies in the case of 4a, 4b, 4f, and 4h. The geometrical parameters and spectral data were also compared with those of a DFT geometry optimization and molecular orbital calculation at the B3LYP/6–311++G (d, p) level of theory. The closest contacts between the molecules of the four structures were investigated by analyzing their Hirshfeld surfaces and docking investigations in the protein EGFR (pdbid: 4HJO). Moreover, the experimental results are correlated to the calculated ones and showed great compatibility. Cell proliferation was used to measure the immunomodulatory activity of 4a-h compared to a control consisting only of normal cells cultured alone to determine their antiproliferative screening which concluded that the quinoxaline derivatives 4c, 4d, 4f and 4g showed immunomodulatory potential.

Synthesis, X-ray Crystallography, Spectroscopic Characterizations, Density Functional Theory, and Hirshfeld Surface Analyses of a Novel (Carbonato) Picket Fence Iron(III) Complex.

An Fe(III)-carbonato six-coordinate picket fence porphyrin complex with the formula [K(2,2,2-crypt)][FeIII(TpivPP)(CO3)]·C6H5Cl·3H2O (I) has been synthesized and characterized by UV-Vis and FT-IR spectra. The structure of (carbonato)(α,α,α,α-tetrakis(o-pivalamidophenyl)porphinato)ferrate(III) was also established by XRD. The iron atom is hexa-coordinated by the four nitrogen atoms of the pyrrol rings and the two oxygen atoms of the CO32- group. Complex I, characterized as a ferric high-spin complex (S = 5/2), presented higher Fe-Np (2.105(6) Å) and Fe-PC (0.654(2) Å) distances. Both X-ray molecular structure and Hirshfeld surface analysis results show that the crystal packing of I is made by C-H⋯O and C-H⋯Cg weak intermolecular hydrogen interactions involving neighboring [FeIII(TpivPP)(CO3)]- ion complexes. Computational studies were carried out at DFT/B3LYP-D3/LanL2DZ to investigate the HOMO and LUMO molecular frontier orbitals and the reactivity within the studied compound. The stability of compound I was investigated by analyzing both intra- and inter-molecular interactions using the 2D and 3DHirshfeld surface (HS) analyses. Additionally, the frontier molecular orbital (FMO) calculations and the molecular electronic potential (MEP) analyses were conducted to determine the electron localizations, electrophilic, and nucleophilic regions, as well as charge transfer (ECT) within the studied system.

Photophysical, cyclic voltammetry, electron paramagnetic resonance, X-ray molecular structure, DFT calculations and molecular docking study of a new Mn(III) metalloporphyrin

Herein, we have presented a new manganese(III) metalloporphyrin, named, based on the X-ray molecular structure, the bis(4-dimethylaminopyridine)[meso‑tetra(para-chlorophenyl)porphyrinato]manganese(III) triflate 1.56 chloroform solvate 0.22 n-hexane solvate 0.22 hydrate with the following formula:[MnIII(TClPP)(DMAP)2](SO3CF3)·0.22(C6H14)·1.56(CHCl3)·0.22(H2O) (complex I).This coordination compound was characterized by FT-IR and cyclic voltammetry. The dichloromethane solution UV/Vis spectrum of I is typical of a Mn(III) high-spin (S = 2) porphyrin complex with a redshifted Soret band with λmax value of 487 nm. The single crystal X-diffraction technique was used to determine the molecular structure of our new Mn(III) bis(DMAP) porphyrin complex. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy confirms that this new 3d4 Mn(III) metalloporphyrin (a non-Kramers system) in solid state is high-spin (S = 2). DFT/TD-DFT calculations on complex I were investigated, including (i) the molecular structure optimization using the DFT/B3LYP-D3/LanL2DZ level of theory, (ii) the frontier molecular orbital calculations and the deduction of the global indices of activities, (iii) the molecular electronic potential analysis (MEP), and (iv) the QTAIM and NCI-RDG analyses. Furthermore, complex I was tested against diverse amino acids of the selected Bcl-2 proteins using docking calculations.

Discovery of Unprecedented Human Stercobilin Conjugates.

Two unique metabolites (M18 and M19) were detected in feces of human volunteers dosed orally with [14C]inavolisib with a molecular ion of parent plus 304 Da. They were generated in vitro by incubation with fecal homogenates and we have evidence that they are formed chemically and possibly enzymatically. Structural elucidation by high resolution mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy showed that the imidazole ring of inavolisib was covalently bound to partial structures derived from stercobilin, an end-product of heme catabolism produced by the gut microbiome. The structural difference between the two metabolites was the position of methyl and ethyl groups on the pyrrolidin-2-one moieties. We propose a mechanism of M18 and M19 generation from inavolisib and stercobilin whereby nucleophilic attack from the imidazole ring of inavolisib occurs to the bridging carbon of a stercobilin molecule. The proposed mechanism was supported by computational calculations of molecular orbitals and transition geometry. SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: We report the characterization of two previously undescribed conjugates of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase inhibitor inavolisib, generated by reaction with stercobilin, an end-product of heme catabolism produced by the gut microbiome. These conjugates were confirmed by generating them using in vitro fecal homogenate incubation via nonenzymatic and possibly enzymatic reactions. Given the unique nature of the conjugate, it is plausible that it may have been overlooked with other small molecule drugs in prior studies.

Synthesis and Characterization of Octacyano-Cu-Phthalocyanine.

Octacyano-metal-substituted phthalocyanine MPc(CN)8 is a promising n-type stable organic semiconductor material with eight cyano groups, including a strong electron-withdrawing group at its molecular terminals. However, most MPc(CN)8 have not been thoroughly investigated. Therefore, CuPc(CN)8 was synthesized in this study and its crystal structure, chemical and electronic states, thermal stability, and electrical properties were investigated. This article discusses the various properties of CuPc(CN)8, as compared to those of CuPc and FePc(CN)8. The previously reported FePc(CN)8 is an organic semiconductor molecule with a molecular structure similar to that of CuPc(CN)8. X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements revealed that CuPc(CN)8 has a crystalline structure in the P1̅ space group. The crystal structure forms an in-plane network parallel to the molecular plane through multiple hydrogen bonds by the cyano groups at the molecular terminals. Interestingly, the crystal structure, especially the molecular stacking, of CuPc(CN)8 differs from that of FePc(CN)8. The absorption edge observed in the ultraviolet-visible spectrum of CuPc(CN)8 shifted to a longer wavelength than that of CuPc, which was attributed to the energy gap of CuPc(CN)8 being smaller than that of CuPc owing to the influence of the cyano groups at the molecular terminals, according to the molecular orbital calculation results using density functional theory. Ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy measurements confirmed that CuPc(CN)8 had a stronger n-type character than CuPc because of the orbital energy stabilization by the cyano groups. Thermogravimetry/differential thermal analysis measurements revealed that the thermal stability of CuPc(CN)8 was significantly higher than that of FePc(CN)8. CuPc(CN)8 exhibited photoconduction upon visible-light irradiation, and its electrical conductivity was higher than that of CuPc, which was attributed to a reduction in the electron injection barrier at the electrode interfaces.

Influence of tartaric acid on the electron transfer between oxyanions and lepidocrocite

Iron oxide minerals control the environmental behavior of trace elements. However, the potential effects of electron transfer directions by iron oxides between organic acids and trace elements remain unclear. This study investigates the redox capacity of tartaric acid (TA) with chromate (Cr(Ⅵ)) or arsenate (As(V)) on lepidocrocite (Lep) from the perspective of electron transfer. The results demonstrated the configurations of TA (bidentate binuclear (BB)), As(V) (BB), and Cr(Ⅵ) (BB and protonated monodentate binuclear (HMB)) on Lep. Frontier molecular orbital calculations and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) binding energy shifts further indicated different electron transfer directions between TA and the oxyanions on Lep. The iron of Lep might act as electron acceptors when TA is adsorbed, whereas the iron and oxygen of Lep act as electron donors when As(V) is adsorbed. The iron of Lep might accept electrons from its oxygen and subsequently transfer these electrons to Cr(Ⅵ). Macroscopic validation experiments showed the reduction of Cr(VI), whereas no reduction of As(V). The XPS analysis showed a peak shift, with the possible formation of As–Fe–TA ternary complexes and electron transfer on Lep. These findings indicate that mineral interfacial electron transfer considerably influences the transport and transformation of oxyanions.

Low-Migration Compounds with Amine Functionality as Coinitiators of Radical Polymerization.

The utilization of two-component systems comprising camphorquinone (CQ) and aromatic amines has become prevalent in the photopolymerization. However, there are still concerns about the safety of this CQ/amine system, mainly because of the toxicity associated with the leaching of aromatic amines. In light of these concerns, this study aims to develop novel coinitiator combinations featuring CQ and amines which cannot be leached out of materials, enabling free radical polymerization of representative dentalmethacrylate resins under blue light irradiation. This approach involves the initial design and analysis of hydrogen donors with low C─H bond dissociation energy through molecular modeling. Subsequently, copolymerizable methacrylate functional groups are incorporated via chemical modification, allowing it to act as both coinitiator and copolymerization monomer to achieve low migrationand leachability properties. This work presents, for the first time, the synthesis of the innovative coinitiator and compares its performance with the benchmark CQ/ethyl-4-dimethylaminobenzoate (EDB)-based photoinitiation system (PIS). The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the newly proposed PIS. Finally, an in-depth investigation is conducted into the reaction mechanism associated with this PIS through molecular orbital calculations and electron spin resonance studies.

Quercetin derivatives as potential inhibitors of Nipah virus phosphoprotein through in silico drug design approaches

The Nipah virus (NiV) is a pathogenic infection presenting a substantial risk to both human and animal communities. Despite its virulence, there are currently no available drugs or vaccines for NiV. To fight against this challenge, we applied a multi-step in silico drug design strategy, including PASS prediction, molecular docking, absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADMET) analysis, molecular dynamics simulations, frontier molecular orbitals calculations, dynamic cross-correlation matrix (DCCM), and principal component analysis (PCA). To find out the potential drug candidate against NiV target protein, more than 100 derivatives were taken from the PubChem database. After that, the Pa (probability “to be active"), and Pi (probability “to be inactive") calculation was conducted. Based on the maximum probability “to be active score (Pa), the top nine compounds were studied against NiV. Our findings suggest that the quercetin derivatives exhibit promising binding affinities with the Nipah virus phosphoprotein, particularly compounds 03 (−7.8 kcal/mol), 22 (−6.9 kcal/mol), and 89 (−7.3 kcal/mol). The molecular dynamics simulations over the 100 had confirmed excellent stability and ADMET profiles has reported that all the mentioned ligands are free from Hepatotoxicity, and AMES toxicity, suggesting them as promising candidates for anti-NiV drugs. Based on the results of molecular dynamics simulations, it was observed that the reported drug candidates 03, 22, and 89 exhibited a high degree of stability in forming protein-ligand complexes. These complexes showed only minor fluctuations in RMSF over the 100 ns simulation period. The utilization of frontier molecular orbitals aided in the understanding of the electronic structure behavior, providing strong evidence for their suitability. The study indicates that certain quercetin derivatives, such as 03, 22, and 89, show promise as potentially effective antiviral drug candidates against NiV. Future research should focus on experimental testing of these compounds to develop new antiviral drugs against NiV.

2,4-dichloro-6-(1,4,5-triphenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl) phenol: synthesis, DFT analysis, Molecular docking, molecular dynamics, ADMET properties against COVID-19 main protease (Mpro: 6WCF/6Y84/6LU7)

ABSTRACT New derivatives of 2,4-dichloro-6-(1,4,5-triphenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl) phenol (DPIP) have been successfully synthesised and characterised using spectral methods such as FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR. Density functional theory (DFT) approach at B3LYP/6-311 G (d, p) level of theory is used to determine optimised bond parameters and single crystal XRD investigation of related derivatives confirms the structure of DPIP bond parameters. The single crystal XRD measurements and the optimised geometrical parameters produced by the DFT calculation agree well. The FT-IR bands seen in the experiment were attributed to distinct normal modes of the molecule. Frontier molecular orbital computations described the molecule stability, chemical reactivity and charge transfer. Atomic charges determined via Mulliken population analysis on the different DPIP atoms. MEP, which is mapped to the electron density surfaces, has discovered potential reactive sites of the molecule. The reported molecule is used as a potential NLO material since it has a high μβ0 value. Binding affinities were discovered using molecular docking against the COVID-19 major protease (Mpro: 6WCF/6Y84/6LU7). The behaviour of the complex structure formed by the Covid-19 protein under in silico physiological conditions was then confirmed by a 100 ns molecular dynamic simulation which looked at the structure stability over time and revealed a stable conformation and binding pattern in an environment of imidazole derivatives. Furthermore, favourable to moderate anti-viral activity was revealed by an in-silico analysis that anticipated the compound absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity profiles (ADMET).

Novel disposable screen-printed sensors based on copper oxide nanoparticles for sensitive voltammetric assay of antazoline

The fabrication and electroanalytical validation of a novel homemade screen-printed carbon electrode enriched with copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs/SPCEs) were demonstrated for sensitive and selective voltammetric determination antazoline (ANT) in eye drop solution and spiked serum samples. With a reported electrocatalytic activity, CuONPs catalyzed the oxidation of ANT at the electrode surface showing an irreversible anodic oxidation peak at 0.9 V under a diffusion-controlled electrode reaction. Based on the electroanalytical and molecular orbital calculation studies, oxidation of ANT molecule undergoes via oxidation of the aliphatic nitrogen atom within the ANT moiety. Linear calibration curves were illustrated covering the ANT concentration ranged from 0.01 to 3.819 µg mL−1 with and limit of detection 3 ng mL−1. The fabricated sensors enriched with CuONPs exhibited high fabrication and measurement reproducibility with a prolonged shelf lifetime (6 months). The electroanalytical approach presented adequate sensitivity and selectivity with a short analysis time, applying low-cost instrumentation and simple pretreatment protocol avoiding handling hazardous organic solvents. Trace ANT was monitored in the presence of different interfering species, degradation products, and xylometazoline hydrochloride (ZYL) in the co-formulated ophthalmic pharmaceutical samples. The CuONPs based voltammetric sensors were introduced as a reliable eco-friendly analytical tool for monitoring ANT in ophthalmic solutions and biological fluids with acceptable recovery values.
