Factors Influencing Brand Switching in Mobile Telecommunication Industry in Bangladesh

Today telecommunications industry is a key indicator of productivity across economies and societies. In recent times, developing nations have witnessed significant transformation within this sector due to the impact it has had on their economies. Higher the degree of competiveness among the brands available to the consumers, higher would be the intensity of brand switching. This research has been conducted in order to examine the factors influencing brand switching in mobile telecommunication industry in Bangladesh. Qualitative and quantitative methods have been developed a strong base of research. Primary data for research has been collected through an interview schedule from 80 mobile subscribers in Bangladesh. Data were coded and analyzed by using SPSS and Excel. The results of research suggest that service charge is the most influential factor on brand switching in telecommunication sector. Other factors that have been found influential factor on brand switching were poor customer care service of previous operator, occupation and economic circumstances, switching cost, better service availability, wide and strong network. So the mobile operator and other related agencies should provide better service to the customers for reducing brand switching of mobile telecommunication industry in Bangladesh.

The impact of over-the-top service providers on the Global Mobile Telecom Industry: A quantified analysis and recommendations for recovery

Telecom industry is significantly evolving all over the globe than ever. Mobile users’ number is increasing remarkably. Telecom operators are investing to get more users connected and to improve user experience, however, they are facing various challenges. Decrease of main revenue streams of voice calls, SMS (Short Message Service) and LDC (Long distance calls) with a significant increase in data traffic. In contrary, with free cost, OTT (Over the top) providers such as WhatsApp and Facebook communication services rendered over networks that built and owned by MNOs. Recently, OTT services gradually substituting the traditional MNOs` services and became ubiquitous with the help of the underlying data services provided by MNOs. The OTTs` services massive penetration into telecom industry is driving the MNOs to reconsider their strategies and revenue sources. Objective: The research objective is to critically evaluate the impact of OTT providers on MNOs. With the empirical evidences, the research explores a quantified impact of OTTs on MNOs main revenue streams, and breakdown this impact to highlight effect`s significance. Followed by a statistical trend analysis of global MNOs` revenue over the last decade. Additionally, the research aims to compile, evaluate, and analyze set of former proposed strategies for MNOs to overcome the OTTs` impact. Methods: Referring to available open source raw data collected from GSMA and official telecommunications regulatory authorities worldwide, the research develops a statistical model based on regression and extrapolation to analyze the global MNOs` revenue trend. Findings: This study reveals a hidden revenue loss for global telecommunications industry represented in all MNOs all over the world. The study corelates the hidden revenue loss to OTTs evolution. The study finds out that SMS is the most impacted traditional service of MNOs and predicted that it will vanish at quarter 4 of 2022. Recommendations: MNOs to apply 4 different strategies varying from competing to partnering with OTTs based on the services overlapping level and OTT size. MNOs need to target OPEX and CAPEX reductions and develop their own multi-functional customer-oriented OTT application.

Being Fair to Customers: A Strategy in Enhancing Customer Engagement and Loyalty in the Bangladeshi Mobile Telecommunication Industry

The mobile telecommunications sector in Bangladesh is extremely competitive, necessitating a sophisticated comprehension of the complex interplay among fairness, trust, engagement, and loyalty. This study examines the trends in this industry using a quantitative methodology and 150 participants. The study focuses on how consumer behaviour, loyalty, and the chance of switching service providers are affected by perceived fairness. It also explores representations of demographics, length of customer relationships, and differing opinions on cost, remuneration, and dispute resolution processes. The results underscore the tactical benefit of equitable treatment in shaping consumer behaviour, allegiance, and contentment. The study underscores the significance of suppliers customising their approaches to appeal to a wide range of demographic groups, addressing issues regarding equity, and enlisting happy customers as brand ambassadors. It also highlights the industry’s ongoing requirement for evaluation and flexible loyalty-building tactics in a market that is changing quickly. In the face of fierce competition, the study offers mobile service providers in Bangladesh useful information on how to cultivate long-lasting relationships with their customers. It is understood that there are restrictions on extrapolating results to other industries, that the sample procedure may induce biases, and that qualitative insights are necessary. Prospective investigations into certain fairness features, cross-industry comparisons, qualitative approaches, and longitudinal studies are some ideas for future research. When taken as a whole, these channels have the ability to further our comprehension of the dynamics of justice, trust, engagement, and loyalty while cultivating customised approaches for long-term client relationships in the mobile telecom industry.

Assessing the Key Drivers of Sustainable Economic Growth in Laos: Emphasis on Infrastructure Investment

This study delves into the factors driving sustainable economic growth in Laos, with a particular emphasis on infrastructure investments. Employing advanced analytical techniques, including GMM regressions and ARDL models, we analyze data spanning from 1995 to 2020, offering valuable insights and policy recommendations. Our consistent findings underscore the pivotal role of electricity infrastructure investments in spurring economic expansion. Highlights the positive impact of telecommunication infrastructure and a skilled workforce, emphasizing the importance of technological advancements and human capital development. An investigation from various angles reveals that variables like agriculture, air transport, industry, and services emerge as significant contributors to growth, emphasizing its multifaceted nature, and we introduce exchange rates as a variable, unveiling their potential for both positive and negative impacts on economic growth. In the long run, our study identifies a positive relationship between air transport, human capital, labor force, industry, services, exchange rates, and economic growth, highlighting their central role in policy efforts. In the short term, we observe that investments in the industry positively influence growth, while exchange rate fluctuations can have adverse effects. Our research underscores the critical importance of infrastructure investments, especially in electricity and air transport, for driving economic growth in Laos. Factors such as mobile telecommunication technology, human capital, agriculture, industry, and services also make substantial contributions to sustained growth. Notably, exchange rates can have both positive and negative effects, underscoring the need for meticulous management by policymakers to support Laos in its pursuit of rapid economic development.

Assessing the Impact of Communication on Customer Relationship Marketing: A Case Study of Mobile Telecom Companies

The long-term relationship between customers and companies is essential for desired business growth. Most cellular industries rely on different forms of communication and marketing to achieve desired levels of relationships with their customers. This study focused on establishing the general effect of communication on customer relationship marketing in different businesses or organizations. The mobile telecom industry of Greece was used as the case study. A cross-sectional survey design based on a quantitative methodology was used in the study. A well-designed questionnaire was utilized to collect quantitative data from 204 customers of different mobile telecom companies based in Kozani, Greece. Results showed that communication techniques improve the strength of relationships between customers and the business, improving business profitability. The results also showed that the approach of communication in a company plays a very important role in influencing the satisfaction levels of customers which in the long run enhances relationship marketing. The findings confirmed that customer relationships through communication and marketing are essential for the growth of the business through improved performance and profitability. Therefore, companies or companies need to employ the best communication techniques to achieve the desired relationship marketing and sustainable long-term relationships.

Assessing the Impact of Bank Liquidity on the Performance of Banks in Ghana

The ability of banks to perform their core role effectively depends largely on liquidity. In this study, the main objective is to examine the impact of bank liquidity on the performance of banks in Ghana. The study used both regression (pooled regression) and descriptive methods. The main findings indicate that liquidity has a positive impact on the performance of the bank. Further, interest income, efficiency of management staff as bank-specific factors promote liquidity of the banks. For macroeconomic variables, exchange rate volatility showed a significant inverse effect on the liquidity. As policy implication, management should adopt best liquidity management practices and a more efficient and advanced approaches to improve efficiency. This can be achieved by taking advantage of the revolution in Information Telecommunication (IT) and the mobile telecommunication industry. Also, the banks should reduce their concentration of loans and diversified to other less risky but attractive areas such as investment into government securities.

Drivers and risk of business process outsourcing in South African mobile telecommunication industry

Mobile telecommunications service providers outsource various activities like logistics, assembly operations, manufacturing and design. However, little research has been conducted in Southern Africa to establish the actual drivers triggering mobile telecommunication companies to implement business process outsourcing (BPO) and the risks associated with implementation. This research aims to redress the existing knowledge gap and the limited body of literature by conducting research to establish the drivers and risks of implementing BPO. A structured, closed-ended questionnaire collected raw data from 210 employees. Descriptive statistics were conducted to establish the drivers triggering mobile telecommunication companies to implement BPO. Overall, the results concluded that some of the key drivers of implementing BPO by the telecom operators are reduction in capital investment, thereby freeing up limited capital funds more available for core areas, and the company can have access to unique resources skills and talents. The results also indicated that the risks of BPO implementation include the potential loss of control over critical functions and the difficulty of ensuring service quality and consistency from the service provider. The results will help the corporate management to make decisions about outsourcing based on quantifiable results instead of managerial estimates. While the study confined itself to the mobile telecommunications companies, more research can be conducted in other South African industries, most notably banks and learning institutions that are also important BPO hubs worthy of further examination.

Determinants of Customer Switching Behaviour in Mobile Telecommunication Industry in South-South Nigeria

The study examined the determinants of customers’ switching behaviour in mobile telecommunications industry in South-South Nigeria. The main objective of the study was to explore the factors influencing customers’ switching behaviour in the mobile telecommunications industry and in specific terms, determine whether price, reputation, service quality, promotional package and switching cost did have a significant and positive influence on customers’ switching behaviour. The unit of analysis comprised 400 mobile telecommunication subscribers drawn from six cities in the South-South geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The study units were selected using a proportionate stratified sampling technique and the data obtained from the process were analysed with descriptive statistic using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 23 software. Conceptual hypothesized relationships involving the independent and dependent variables formulated from the research model were tested with multiple regression analysis technique. The findings of the study revealed that reputation, service quality, promotional package and switching cost had a strong and positive relationship with customers’ switching behaviour but price and involuntary switching seemed to have the least significant relationship. It showed that those factors were very important determinants of customers’ decision to switch from one mobile telecommunications provider to another except price and involuntary switching as earlier stated. The key recommendations from the study were that managers of mobile telecommunications companies should develop proper pricing strategies that were remarkably different in terms of moderate call rates and data charges to prevent customer switching. Secondly, plans could be put in place by management that would encourage the development of trust and confidence through the provision of timely quality services and ensure good network coverage. Finally, managers should ensure that promotional campaigns were aimed at building relationships. In conclusion, it is quite important that managers should have adequate knowledge of the determinants of customers’ switching behaviour established in the study so as to put in place preventive measures that will enhance customers’ retention of improved sales and profitability. The study made a significant contribution by identifying customers’ perceptions of marketing variables that could affect switching.

A Framework for Evaluating the Impact of Business Process Outsourcing on the Operational Performance of the Mobile Telecommunications Industry, South Africa

Mobile telecommunications service providers outsource a range of activities like logistics, assembly operations, manufacturing and design. However, little research has been conducted to empirically evaluate the impact of business process outsourcing (BPO) on the company's operational performance. This research tried to redress the existing knowledge gap and the limited body of literature by proposing a framework to evaluate the impact of BPO in the mobile telecommunications industry using cost and profitability as the underpinning quantitative performance measurements. A structured closed-ended questionnaire was used to collect raw data from 210 employees. Descriptive and chi-square tests were conducted to establish the statistically significant relationship between business process outsourcing and the operational performance of mobile telecommunications. The results reflected a statistically significant relationship between implementation of BPO and cost and profitability. The results will help the corporate management to make decisions of outsourcing based on quantifiable metrics instead of managerial estimates. While the study confined itself to the mobile telecommunications companies, more research can be conducted in other South African industries most notably banks, hospitals, car assembling and learning institutions that are also important BPO hubs worthy of further examination.

Complementary institutions of industrial policy: a quasi-market role of government inspired by the evolutionary China Model

China has achieved rapid economic growth over the past four decades, and industrial policy is widely considered an important driving force in the process. This paper traces the evolutionary process of China’s industrial policies in the transition of the economic system, and summarises the complementary institutions behind the successes and failures of using industrial policies. China’s industrial polices evolved through four stages, namely the initial stage, the building stage, the outreach stage and the upgrading stage. Typical sectors – light industry, the automobile industry, the mobile telecommunication industry and the platform industry – are examined. The study finds that although China’s industrial policies have been inefficient or even failed in micro-level interventions for choosing winners, they have achieved success at the macro level such as market shaping and structural adjustment. We conclude that in transition economies with imperfect market mechanisms, the government can act as a ‘quasi-market’ and provide autonomous, competitive and inclusive institutions, thereby giving play to the mechanism of trial and error, discovering knowledge and mutual learning.

Antecedents and consequences of brand hate: a study of Pakistan’s telecommunication industry

PurposeThis study aims to extend the body of knowledge on brand hate and further examine its significant antecedents and consequences to investigate how brand hate affects consumers’ behavioural responses.Design/methodology/approachThis study used a questionnaire to collect data from 403 consumers of Pakistan’s mobile telecommunication industry. Smart partial least square was then used to analyse the data.FindingsThis study provides insights into the conception of brand hate in the context of Pakistani consumers. This study’s findings indicate that “neuroticism”, as a consumer-related antecedent, “perceived price unfairness”, “poor product/service quality” and “post-purchase service failures” as company-controlled determinants have significant impacts on brand hate. This, in turn, leads to brand avoidance and brand retaliation. Managerial implications and avenues for future research are also discussed. This study provides insights into the conception of brand hate in the context of Pakistani consumers.Originality/valueThe original findings of this work can thus provide meaningful guidance for companies to mitigate the spread of brand hate among consumers.

Presenting a structural model of digitalised talent management in a new age: A case study on the mobile telecommunication industry in Iran

Orientation: Digital transformation has changed the process of talent management. Traditional models embraced activities and processes that guided the right employee towards the right positions or a broad view of talent management.Research purpose: This study aimed to investigate the mediating impact of digitalised process management on relationship between talent management (TM) and organisational performance.Motivation for the study: Digitalisation in enhanced industries such as mobile telecommunications emphasises agility required to attract talent in a dynamic environment in terms of marketing, competition, et cetera.Research approach, design and method: Research data were collected through a quantitative approach. The statistical population of participants in this research included 298 managers and specialists in the field of the mobile Iranian telecommunications industry. Data were collected using a standard questionnaire, the validity of which was assessed based on the validity of content and structure and its reliability through Cronbach’s alpha. Obtained model was analysed using SPSS version 26 and Smart PLS version 3.3.3 software.Practical or managerial implications: Impact of TM on organisational performance through the mediation of digitalised process management is identified. Results show that investments are required to correlate the digitalised process into TM processes to take organisational performance into the digitalisation era.Contribution or value-add: This study extends the knowledge about future of the TM process, which is enhanced by digitalisation aspects to support company and organisational performance for achieving and adopting in the digital era. The study also extends digitalisation process by using a structural model to investigate the future of process in mobile telecommunication industry in Iran.

Governance Related Challenges in the Operation of Mobile Telecommunication Industry in Bangladesh

The mobile telecommunication Industry in Bangladesh is conquered by only four players: Grameenphone, Banglalink, Robi Axiata and finally the state-owned company Teletalk. The oligopolistic nature of this industry in Bangladesh offers a fascinating prospect to study. Bangladesh positioned 5th in Asia Pacific Region and 8th globally in terms of market size for the inimitable mobile subscriber. The mobile telecommunication industry contributed GDP is 1.8% of the country through their voice call and internet. The mobile telecommunication industry is in gush for the increasing demand of smartphone as time progress. This industry is also contributing 30% job opportunities in the country. The aim of this paper is to highlight the main governance related challenges being faced by the companies operating in this industry. The data were mainly collected by captivating interviews with the company CEO, Company Secretary, Internal Audit Head, External Audit, Independent Directors and BTRC Chairman. Also, some secondary data were collected from company websites, annual reports, other related publicly available documents. The pragmatic evidence discovered area specific governance challenges such as lack of formal training for the board members, absence of cyber security introduction, no presence of institute directors of Bangladesh, lack of in-house program, absence of robust succession planning, lack of formal compliance and ethics programs in-house and industry level etc. Also, the various sub-committees (i.e. audit committee, nomination committee, remuneration committee etc.) were found ineffective to some extent. The study proposed some recommendations to overcome these lacking. The findings to the study are expected to have significant policy implication in reforming the corporate governance regulations in Bangladesh and Mobile Telecommunication industry in particular.

EFFECT OF HUMOR LEADERSHIP ON INVENTIVENESS OF EMPLOYEES AND ADMINISTRATIVE RELIABILITY. EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE'S MODERATING IMPACT

The purpose of this research is to examine how humor leadership styles affect innovation and productivity in Pakistan's mobile telecommunications industry in the south Punjab area. It examines how emotional intelligence may be used by leaders to boost organisational performance. This research demonstrates the impact that emotional intelligence has on innovation and productivity in the telecommunications industry in this area. This research uses information from a highly regarded mobile telecommunications industry in the South Punjab area of Pakistan. This article explores a variety of perspectives on leadership. In various settings, these theories argue, leaders act in certain ways. For them, the ultimate success of their businesses depends on continuing the current trend of development and productivity. This research also discusses the many leadership styles used by successful business owners and managers to foster an environment where innovation and productivity thrive. The information for this research was gathered by use of questionnaires. The study's statistical analysis and findings corroborate the link between hilarious leadership and employee innovation, which in turn boosts organisational effectiveness. Humorous leadership is seen to have a beneficial influence on employees' ability to think beyond the box. A leader should keep the office lighthearted to foster an environment conducive to innovation.

The Role of the Mobile Telecommunications Industry in Relation to the Former Afghan State and the Taliban

The study focuses on the mobile telecommunications industry in Afghanistan prior to the Taliban takeover in late 2021, and seeks to study how the mobile telecommunications corporations engage with the different area-specific governance systems in order to gain legitimacy to operate across Afghanistan. The study capitalises on mixed qualitative data to conduct an embedded case study of the Afghan mobile telecommunications industry as an extreme context for understanding business-society relations in South Asia. Theoretically, the article integrates insights from governance literature on areas of limited statehood to conceptualise business–society relations in Afghanistan beyond state-centric views and assumptions. The findings result in two modalities of business engagement that are conceptualised as a single vis-à-vis multiple governance system approach. Each of these modes of engagement implies a political nature and role for the businesses that are embedded in ethical dilemmas as discussed in the article. These findings contribute to the debate on the ‘political turn’ in the CSR literature and the governance literature on areas of limited statehood.

Corporate social responsibility, marketing capabilities and consumer behavioral responses

PurposeThe purpose of the study was to examine the effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and marketing capability on consumer behavioral responses in the mobile telecommunication industry in Ghana. Particularly, the study estimated the moderating effect of marketing capability on the relationship between CSR and consumer behavioral responses.Design/methodology/approachBoth customers and employees of three major mobile telecommunication companies were sampled for this work. A mixed linear regression technique was used to examine the relationship between corporate responsibility, marketing capability and customer behavioral responses.FindingsThe empirical results revealed that marketing capabilities moderate the relationship between CSR and consumer responses in the telecommunication industry.Research limitations/implicationsThe study proposes practical dimensions to the mobile telecommunication companies that the extensive development of strong marketing capabilities serves a conduit for CSR to achieve favorable consumer responses.Originality/valueThe results have opened up rather a limitation studies on the moderation role marketing capabilities in relationship between CSR and consumer behavioral responses in the telecommunication industry.

Market Competition, Infrastructure Sharing, and Network Investment in China’s Mobile Telecommunications Industry

The relationship between market competition and network investment in the mobile telecommunications industry has always been one of the focuses for scholars and regulatory agencies. The conclusions of previous studies on this topic remain ambiguous. Infrastructure sharing has become a noticeable trend in the global mobile telecommunications industry, but its impact on operators’ investment and innovation behaviors is controversial. This paper uses fixed effects and dynamic panel data models to empirically examine the relationship among the market competition, infrastructure sharing, and network investment in China’s mobile telecommunications industry. The results show that market competition has a significant positive impact on the total industry network investment, but the interaction of market competition and infrastructure sharing has undermined network investment, which indicates that the competitive strategy of rational operators will shift from facility-based competition to service-based competition when both deep infrastructure sharing and fierce market competition appear at the same time, and this is likely to cause insufficient incentives for investment in advanced technology. This paper suggests that China’s regulators should improve the market structure, enhance market competitiveness continuously, and support infrastructure sharing, but at the same time they should exercise caution when conducting in-depth infrastructure sharing. In addition, they should accelerate the development of 5G vertical industry applications to expand the market space for industry development.

Sustaining the Yellow Heart: responsible business by reducing inequalities at Digi Malaysia

Learning outcomes This study enables to critique the development of a sustainability strategy brand; integrated reports, sustainability reports, usage of safe internet and online learning skills to reduce inequalities and increase stakeholders’ values. Case overview/synopsis Digi Telecommunications (Digi) has been publishing annual sustainability reporting in line with Global Reporting Initiatives since 2009. Albern Murty, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Digi, the largest player in the mobile telecommunications industry in Malaysia by the number of subscribers, decided to establish a responsible business brand known as Yellow Heart in 2018 to better serve their stakeholders demand. There was a low stakeholder understanding of Digi’s sustainability efforts and societal impacts. Digi’s Sustainability department aspired to make Yellow Heart the best industry practice for continuous improvements by making Responsible Business commitment one of the main pillars of the company’s strategy and vision. Yellow Heart was linked to Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)10 on reducing inequalities by focusing on Digital Inclusion and Resilience to increase safe access opportunities, provide marginalized communities with opportunities to pursue interests in digital learning pathways and create a more sustainable digital future for all. The case study illustrates the sustainability management at Digi and the planned migration from sustainability reporting to integrated reporting to build trust in the business with all the stakeholders. The case dilemma involves the challenges that Philip Ling Oon Hun, the Head of the Sustainability, faced in deciding the SDGs to focus on and measuring and reporting their outcomes to contribute to the greater good, not only in pure business terms but also to society at large.
