Challenges and opportunities in achieving secure hospital clinical mobility management: An illustrative use case

Objective: To qualitatively describe a use case at Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) illustrating the need for and effective deployment of innovative technologies to manage an enterprise-owned shared device (EOSD) management program. EOSD management provides clinicians with secure, rapid access to enterprise mobile devices and applications, maintains devices in functional, use ready condition for clinicians, and enables enterprise tracking and reduced loss of devices.Methods: Executive leaders in clinical information technology and informatics management at YNHHS were interviewed through written and telephonic communication. Qualitative data was gathered through communications between clinical and information technology executives and the implementation support team of a leading identity and access management (IAM) solutions and EOSD management solution provider. Use case information was gathered, integrated and shared with health system executives and health IT/informatics leaders to verify the description of unmet needs, solution objectives and impact/value delivered after implementation of the EOSD management solution.Results: Benefits realized from implementation of an enterprise-shared mobility management solution included establishment of a cohesive and comprehensive enterprise-owned, shared device management strategy. This included effective monitoring and dynamic management of the system’s mobile device fleet, and better IT resource management with reduced mobile device loss. The IT administrative burden was reduced. While not surveyed systematically, improved clinician experience and satisfaction were reported to IT leaders anecdotally. EOSD management solution deployment was rapid, as was the time to improved clinician mobile experience and clear demonstration of value.Conclusions: A leading US health system was able to rapidly deploy a shared mobile device management solution that enabled effective monitoring and dynamic management of the enterprise mobile device fleet, with easier and faster clinician device access and workflows, and reduced IT administrative demand and costs. While the complexities associated with increased clinical mobility in healthcare will likely continue to grow, issuing future device and mobile management challenges that require effective hospital system response, technologies have emerged that enable more effective, efficient and satisfactory organizational mobility performance.

New product design and implementation of aboleth: a mobile D&D character creator for enterprise mobile applications and metaverse

ABSTRACT This paper contributes to rapid prototyping for Aboleth, a mobile application designed as a virtual character sheet for Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition. We propose augmenting an API framework, including details of the general design process and crucial details regarding the specific implementation of the project. The prototype is developed using Computer-Assisted Designs and Xamarin. Software engineering is integrated into game design to improve Human-Computer Interaction and eventually enhance user experiences. Additionally, we discuss the relevance of using such a tool to achieve rapid prototyping for enterprise mobile applications and Metaverse and explore opportunities to improve the project design.

An observational study of a cross platform risk assessment mobile application in a forensic inpatient setting

Consumer-focused healthcare mobile applications have seen widespread adoption in recent years. Enterprise mobile applications in hospital settings have been slower to gain traction. In this study we examine the Dynamic Appraisal of Situational Aggression: Inpatient version (DASA), a short-term risk assessment tool which is well validated and widely used in the prediction of violent incidents, within an inpatient forensic setting. The application was piloted over a period of three months, collecting 847 total DASA scores on 21 different patients. Time stamping allowed for accurate correlation between risk assessment scoring and the violent risk incidents. The internal validity of the app was measured using Cronbach's alpha and was calculated at 0.798 indicating good internal validity. Using violent incidents as the dependent factor and the total DASA score as the independent factor, predictive validity of the app was calculated at 0.85, p = 0.007. The use of this application in a forensic setting was successful with good internal and predictive validity. A major benefit of this form of data collection was the electronic time stamping so that the correlation between risk estimation and events could be more closely correlated. Deployment of such an application in a general hospital setting would bring its own challenges but would be useful in other types of risk assessment and screening tools.

Applying Machine Learning for Automatic User Story Categorization in Mobile Enterprises Application Development

<p dir="ltr"><span>Mobile enterprise applications (apps) are developed in dynamic and complex environments. Hardware characteristics, operating systems and development tools are constantly changing. In larger institutions, comprehensive corporate guidelines and requirements have to be followed. In addition, larger enterprises often develop numerous apps and lack an overview of development projects. Because of the size of such companies, a comprehensive direct information exchange between developers is often not practicable. In this situation, IT support is necessary, for example to prevent unnecessary duplication of work in the development of software artifacts such as user stories, app screen designs or code features within the company. One approach to overcome these challenges is to support reusing results from previous projects by building systems to organize and analyse the knowledge base of enterprise app development projects. For such systems an automatic categorization of artifacts is required. In this work we propose using a machine learning approach to categorize user stories. The approach is evaluated on a set of user stories from real-world mobile enterprise application development projects. The results are promising and suggest that machine learning approaches can be beneficially applied to user story classification in large companies.</span></p>

Strategies for Developing and Deploying Enterprise-Level Mobile Applications on a Large Scale: A Comprehensive Analysis

The object of the exploration in this study is the approach and methods within the building of large-scale enterprise mobile applications. The primary aim is to design a pragmatic model that will be helpful for any organization engaging the services of applications to improve its operational excellence. This capture of scholarly insight, however, goes beyond the detailed description of the particular needs and intricate challenges, such as stringent security, additional scalability, prevalent device fragmentation, and the requirement of producing consistent interaction with the current enterprise environment. The development discourse is expanded further to layer upon the manifold methodologies and technological frameworks that coordinate the large-scale development of mobile applications, in particular the agile development paradigm, the DevOps principles, and the utilization of versatile cross-platform development strategy. This process involves strategies to promote advanced cloud infrastructures and the newer containerization technologies to scale up the deployment and management with great accuracy of the mobile applications, in addition to the development of methods to maximize the performance of such applications working on several devices and operating systems. These will cover the major aspects of creating a resilient app building pipeline such as solutions towards project management processes, introducing tools that will facilitate collaboration, implementing automated testing frameworks and applying CI/CD (continuous integration and continuous deployment) methodologies. Furthermore, these questions are related to the new methods in App development, for example, serverless computing, microservices architectures and AI usage for making the decision making process better along with predictive analytics in the App lifecycle. By way of this academic investigation, we propose to provide all relevant players, namely developers, marketers, as well as venture capitalists with a deep knowledge and a set of practical solutions for building enterprise mobile applications at scale.

Enterprise Applications Reimagined-Cloud abridges mystery of Mobile Offline Working

Abstract Software as a Service (SaaS) has the potential to transform the way information-technology departments relate to and even think about their role as providers of computing services to the rest of the enterprise. In this paper we present an empirical case study on how cloud computing eases the development of mobile applications that work efficiently even with intermittent network access. We refer to a situation as offline where there is limited or no internet connectivity. We draw comparisons between the rudimentary way of creating offline mobile applications (via On-premise mobile platforms) to the new cloud development model. With the help of measurable KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), we conclude the effectiveness of development on Cloud. Additionally, we have taken a case study instance of enterprise mobile application that is used for data capture at remote locations in Oil fields. Then we describe design implementation details as well as provide recommendations for seamless integration to backend On-premise (OP) systems.

Mobile enterprise application adoption: A South African insurance study

The factors impacting the adoption of mobile enterprise applications (MEAs) are important to understand if the value of using these applications is to materialize as improved business performance. By means of a review of the literature, the conceptual design of a model, a survey, and qualitative analysis, this mixed method study examined the factors which influence the adoption of three MEAs in the insurance industry. Interesting findings include the importance of willingness to fund devices on the adoption by users and the importance of job relevance and the location dependency of the MEAs on their usefulness. These findings are of relevance to researchers and organizations intending on deploying MEAs and practitioners should pay attention to the factors which can influence user acceptance of MEAs.

AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF THE FACTORS AFFECTING THE ADOPTION OF MOBILE ENTERPRISE APPLICATIONS

Mobile enterprise application (MEA) technology has been identified as a technology that could help organisations to improve productivity, reduce cost, and gain and sustain competitive advantages through enterprise-wide technology implementations. Despite its many potential benefits, the adoption of MEA has not been as extensive globally as anticipated. Research results indicate that perceived technology usefulness, ease of use, perceived competitive pressure, industry trends, information technology (IT) infrastructure, organisational policies processes and systems, employee knowledge and readiness, and organisational resources are important factors that shape the adoption intent of organisations towards MEA technology. Implications for practice and research are also discussed.

NetMob: A Mobile Application Development Framework with Enhanced Large Objects Access for Mobile Cloud Storage Service

Mobile enterprise applications are primarily devel-oped for existing backend enterprise systems and some usage scenarios require storing of large files on the mobile devices.These files range from large PDFs to media files in various formats (MPEG videos).These files needs to be used offline , sometimes updated and shared among users. Present work studied different Mobile Backend as a service (M)BaaS platforms to understand techniques use to handle large file and found that many are either missing the feature or does not handle performance issues for large files. In this paper, we are proposing, NetMob, a mobile synchronization platform that allows resource-limited mobile devices to access large objects from the cloud. This framework is mainly focused on large file handling and has support for both table and objects data models that can be tuned for three consistency semantics, resembling strong, causal and eventual consistency. Experimental results conducted using representative workloads showed that NetMob can handle large files access with the size ranging from 100MB upto 1GB and is able to reduce sync time with object chunking in our experiment settings.

Research on mobile application support system based on internal and external network

Since 13th Five-Year, great changes have taken place in the situation at home and abroad. Internal and external factors such as “Internet +” innovation and development, new technology driven and information security situation have had a wide and profound impact on the production and operation of enterprises. At the same time, new requirements for information and communication work have been put forward. Based on the existing internal and external network structure of the enterprise, we study a fast response, collaborative innovation, security and controllable mobile application support system, so as to speed up the construction of enterprise mobile applications, and help “Internet +” management innovation and business innovation.

User Behavior of Mobile Enterprise Applications

Organizations have been implementing mobile applications that actually connect to their backend enterprise applications (e.g. ERP, SCM, etc.) in order to increase the enterprise mobility. However, most of the organizations are still struggling to fully satisfy their mobile application users with the enterprise mobility. Even though it has been regarded as the right direction that the traditional enterprise system should move on, the studies on the success model for mobile enterprise applications in user’s acceptance perspective can hardly be found. Thus, this study focused not only to redefine the success of the mobile enterprise application in user’s acceptance persepective, but also to find the impacts of the factors on user’s usage behavior of the mobile enterprise applications. In order to achieve this, we adopted the Technology Acceptance Model 2 (TAM2) as a model to figure out the user’s behavior on mobile applications. Among various mobile enterprise applications, this study chose mobile ERP since it is the most representing enterprise applications that many organizations have implemented in their backend. This study found that not all the constructs defined by Davis in TAM2 have a significant influence on user’s behavior of the mobile-ERP applications. However, it is also found that most social influence processes of TAM2 influence user’s perception of the degree of interaction by mobile-ERP applications.

Research and Design of Mobile Payment Platform Based on Hybrid APP Technology

Mobile payment has been rapid developed, but existing mobile payment platforms are not perfect. This paper focuses on research and design of mobile payment platform. A mobile payment platform based on hybrid APP technology is proposed. Hybrid APP technology perfectly integrates web APP with native APP. It is current mainstream app technology and has been widely used in mobile enterprise application. The solution based on hybrid APP offers beneficial reference for the construction of future mobile payment platform.

Exploring digital creativity in the workspace: The role of enterprise mobile applications on perceived job performance and creativity

This study examines enterprise mobile applications (EMA) to explain how creative job performance is revealed from both the habitual use and task-technology fit for EMA, while also considering the moderating effect of organizational agility. Based on a large-scale survey from employees who use EMA in their workplace across industries, our results suggest that the impact of EMA on perceived job performance and creativity as creativity-supporting systems (in terms of both the habitual use and task-technology fit for EMA) is positive and significant. Our results indicate the positive moderating effect of organizational agility on the relationship between task-technology fit for EMA and perceived job performance. We also identify task-(mobility and feedback) and technology-(reliability, accessibility, and overall quality) characteristics that are found to be positively associated with task-technology fit for EMA. Further, we find that external factors, such as perceived critical mass and the reputation of EMA, can more efficiently explain the habitual use of EMA than internal factors, such as trust and self-efficacy for EMA. The present findings enable researchers and practitioners to understand the role of EMA, which facilitates organizational workers’ creative work processes, as well as it inspires the exploration of digital creativity in the workplace.

NoSQL and SQL Databases for Mobile Applications. Case Study: MongoDB versus PostgreSQL

Compared with web, multi-tier applications, mobile applications have common and specific requirements concerning data persistence and processing. In mobile apps, database features can be distinctly analyzed for the client (minimalistic, isolated, memory-only) and the server (data rich, centralized, distributed, synchronized and disk-based) layers. Currently, a few lite relational database products reign the persistence for client platforms of mobile applications. There are two main objectives of this paper. First is to investigate storage options for major mobile platforms. Second is to point out some major differences between SQL and NoSQL datastores in terms of deployment, data model, schema design, data definition and manipulation. As NoSQL movement lacks standardization, from NoSQL products family MongoDB was chosen as reference, due to its strengths and popularity among developers. Section 2 deals with some specific requirements of mobile software in terms of storage and databases. Section 3 deepens the discussion of data storage features for major mobile platforms. Challenges in the Development of Mobile P2P Applications and Services

The recent trends of decentralizing enterprise applications toward the new peer-to-peer (P2P) architecture and the fast growth of wireless communication lead to a new tendency of combining these technologies to inherit their great advantages of mobility, reliability, flexibility and scalability. However, this technological integration raises a large number of new challenges and issues to be addressed. This paper focuses on the challenges of the development of enterprise mobile applications and services based on P2P architecture. Using selected results from related projects, we present and analyze these important issues and also propose an exemplary solution to address some of these issues.

A comparative anatomy of mobile enterprise applications: Towards a framework of software reuse

While more and more enterprises are making use of mobile technology to enable field workers, in many cases a mobile solution is built from the ground up for use by a single company. This is costly, both in terms of development and support resources. By achieving higher reuse of software components these costs can come down. This paper develops a methodology for identifying re-usable components; and using this methodology several re-usable components are listed. As a by-product of this research we develop a taxonomy of mobile applications. We suggest the new term field office applications to describe applications used by mobile workers.
