OUTB: application for decision-support in the outcomes of Tuberculosis

Brazil is among the 30 countries with the highest tuberculosis prevalence, and many studies are trying to understand and fight the harmful outcomes of this disease. In that sense, the following project proposes the development of a mobile application prototype that centralizes diagnosis aid tools for tuberculosis, making the process more transparent for the patient, using the Single Patient Application (SPA) concept. The application was built based on JavaScript and the frameworks chosen were Vue Framework along with Framework7 due to its focus on interface components. Communication with the back-end was done through AJAX calls. As a result, a prototype was built with the five main screens that the user will interact with: authentication/login screen, home screen, list of available algorithms, outcomes algorithm home screen and patient history. The interface design is expected to facilitate the planning of other application areas and contribute to defining business rules. Once implemented on the server side, these rules can support an organized, patient-centered tuberculosis database.

388 Prototyping a mobile phone application for Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy patient monitoring and data collection post-discharge

OBJECTIVES/GOALS: Research objectives include prototyping a mobile phone application that allows physicians to monitor CD19-directed CAR T-cell therapy patients remotely after discharge. This app will also enable standardized data collection across different centers that provide CAR-T cell therapy and allow for the harmonization of follow-up protocols. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Literature review and semi-structured interviews with patients, clinical coordinators, and other experts in the field will be used to determine what parameters must be included in the mobile application prototype to effectively monitor the side effects of CD19-directed CAR T-cell therapy. The mobile phone application will be designed using process mapping to integrate data from self-reporting and wearable technologies, including the Garmin smart watch. Figma will then be used to develop new screens based on an existing patient monitoring app for Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant follow-up. Finally, a preliminary feasibility study will be conducted to collect feedback on the app prototype from CAR T-cell therapy patients, providers, and stakeholders. RESULTS/ANTICIPATED RESULTS: The anticipated results of this study include an app prototype that will include the functionalities required to monitor patients for adverse effects of CD19-directed CAR T-cell therapy. This will include the parameters that will be recorded or measured using a combination of self-reporting, a reliable body temperature sensor, and the Garmin watch which monitors basic vitals, activity, and sleep. Additional parameters may be added during the stakeholder co-design process. The app prototype will include a physician interface where doctors can monitor their patients and will be alerted if they require further physician assessment. It is expected that the app will provide standardized monitoring of patients when they are discharged from the hospital after receiving CAR T-cell therapy. DISCUSSION/SIGNIFICANCE: This app will allow physicians to monitor patients for general follow-up and adverse effects, including cytokine release syndrome and neurotoxicity. Future studies may utilize this app to develop best practices for harmonizing CAR-T follow-up protocols across Canada.

“The Spanish Cathedral”, a Prototype of Mobile Application for the Access to the Religious Cultural Heritage of Gothic Hispanic Cathedrals

After an in-depth examination of the communication strategies, digital offerings, and audio guides currently employed by various Spanish cathedrals constructed during the 12th and 15th centuries, it was detected that there was a need to gradually build and improve an integral and unified tool that serves as a reference for the learning of the artistic elements that characterize the mentioned constructions. This will contribute to both the promotion of the cathedral —understood as an ensemble— and its communication with the public. This article introduces the conceptualization and design of the mobile application “La Catedral Hispana”, a high-fidelity prototype that seeks to promote Spanish cathedrals with Gothic elements in their construction. This prototype encompasses two areas of study for its task: the research of Gothic architecture in cathedrals and the principles of user experience (interaction design, information architecture, and interface development), for the correct development of the sample, using the Figma software for its design and implementation. The objectives lay not only in providing a tool that facilitates access and shares academic information, but also in establishing relationships among the diverse Spanish cathedrals by means of their common features. The Spanish Cathedral is a proposal for promoting the democratization of cultural information, the learning of the value of heritage, and the development of a new solid and accessible communication channel that enables the target audience to both value and recognize one of the most important types of constructions as a part of Spanish identity.

Design of a Mobile Application to Improve the Therapy Process in Children with Autism

Autism is a spectrum disorder that affects communication and social interaction. It has increased in recent decades, especially among children, and has had a significant impact on their lives, necessitating attention and appropriate support. A prototype mobile application was developed using the Scrum methodology, which allows for flexibility, adaptability, incremental delivery, and quality, as well as continuous improvement. The result obtained was a prototype with a design and features that facilitate patient and specialist access to healthcare areas. The quality of the prototype was evaluated by experts, who assessed its efficiency, usability, design, and functionality and obtained an average score of 4.61. This indicates that, according to the established quality range, it is high. In conclusion, the prototype enhances the therapeutic process for children with autism. It is efficient, easy to use, and has good functionality and an attractive design. This provides a solution that facilitates patients’ access to health services for their well-being.

Development and Evaluation of a Prototype Mobile Application for Intravenous Drug Dose Calculation in Overweight and Obese Thai Children: Precision Dosing in Practice.

Background: Medication dosing in overweight and obese children often involves complex weight-based calculations, leading to higher dosing errors, particularly with intravenous drugs. Currently, tools to aid in dosage calculations are lacking for these patients, especially in Thai population. Objective: This study aimed to develop a mobile application with the intent of utilizing it as a tool to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of dosing calculations required for obese and overweight Thai children. Methods: The performance of the application was assessed in 3 key aspects using a sample of 30 healthcare professionals. These key aspects included: 1) the accuracy of dosage calculations, assessed through pre- and posttests comparing manual calculations to app-based calculations using a 10-item questionnaire, 2) the time taken for calculations before and after app usage, 3) user satisfaction, which was measured through a questionnaire. Results: The integration of applications into the calculation demonstrated a significant improvement when compared to the manual calculation in both accuracy (6.10 vs 9.33 out of 10, P < .001) and efficiency (10.40 vs 8.53 minutes per 10 questions, P = .008). Also, the application elicited high levels of satisfaction among users, as reflected by an overall mean satisfaction score of 4.57 on a 5-point scale. Conclusion: The integration of this application to assist in dosage calculations for overweight and obese pediatric Thai patients has yielded favorable outcomes concerning accuracy, efficiency, and user satisfaction. Further development should be pursued within a larger cohort, with an emphasis on real-world implementation in clinical settings.

MediLog: A Pilot Study of Online Management System for Medical Device Status and Loan

Malaysia's medical device industry is experiencing significant growth, with 309,829 devices procured at a cost of RM 7.78 billion and actively utilized in public hospitals nationwide. This surge highlights the need for an advanced medical device management system to efficiently handle the life cycle of these devices to ensure optimal utilization and streamline operations. Other proposed technological solutions like RFID, RTLS, and infrared tags aim to address these challenges, but their high installation costs pose barriers, especially for government hospitals. To overcome these obstacles, this pilot study advocates for a mobile application as a cost-effective alternative for comprehensive medical data management. The proposed application, developed using MIT Apps, capitalizes on portability, ease of management, and the multifunctionality of mobile platforms. A key feature of the application is the barcode scanner, widely employed across industries for enhanced data capture efficiency. The Real-time Database is integrated into the project, facilitating the swift and accurate storage of medical device information. In essence, the mobile application prototype provides a practical solution to the limitations of manual data management in the biomedical department. Leveraging MIT Apps and incorporating features like the barcode scanner and Real-time Database, the application streamlines the updating of machine details, ensuring users access precise and current information. This approach promotes efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness in medical device management within the healthcare system.

Digitize the eCommerce Bookkeeping – An Automation Bookkeeping Prototype Development

Abstract - This study explores the impact of digital transformation on e-commerce, specifically focusing on the automation of bookkeeping processes. Despite the widespread benefits of e-commerce growth, a significant management gap persists, particularly in smart transaction management for retailers. The absence of automated systems results in manual recording methods, posing risks of data corruption and unreliability. Current practices involve e-commerce retailers relying on conventional ledgers or manual bookkeeping systems. To address these challenges and leverage digital transformation, retailers are turning to smart ledgers and price prediction systems. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative insights from a Facebook poll with qualitative data extracted from discussions. The poll reveals prevalent manual bookkeeping practices among 49 e-commerce retailers, emphasizing the need for automation. Comparative analysis of existing applications identifies gaps, particularly the absence of automatic pricing suggestions crucial for-profit generation based on e-commerce programs. The research culminates in the development of a mobile application prototype, Manledger, utilizing the Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology. Manledger aims to streamline e-commerce bookkeeping by automating sales and inventory tracking, profit calculations, and pricing strategies based on seller programs. Results demonstrate the prototype's effectiveness in enhancing efficiency and accuracy, supported by positive user feedback. Acknowledging the need for further exploration, the study suggests future research directions. These include long-term impact assessments of automated systems, comparative studies across diverse platforms, integration of advanced technologies like AI and blockchain, cybersecurity considerations, and investigations into user experience and adoption challenges. Evaluation of the usability of the Quali+ mobile application for people with high blood pressure.

To evaluate the usability of the "Quali+" mobile application prototype for people with high blood pressure. Descriptive, cross-sectional study of heuristic evaluation of a mobile application prototype carried out between June and July 2021, in a university hospital. Participants were 22 people with arterial hypertension in the city of Campina Grande, PB, Brazil. To measure usability, the Smartphone Usability questionnaiRE instrument was applied. Levels (70 points have good usability. Descriptive statistics were used. The overall usability average was 105.8(7.44 points, with the lowest score being 83 and the highest being 113. Usability was at the highest level(80 points). The usability evaluation showed that, although it is a prototype, the application has good usability and can be considered for routine use in health self-management. Future research is needed to verify its effectiveness.

Visit planner: A personalized mobile trip design application based on a hybrid recommendation model

The paper presents Visit Planner (ViP), a mobile application prototype that provides a solution to the challenging tourist trip design problem. ViP follows a holistic approach offering personalized recommendations for Points of Interest (POIs) based on preferences either explicitly collected by the application, or in34 ferred by the users? ongoing interaction with the system. ViP proposes to the final user, a trajectory of POIs calculated using an ExpectationMaximization method that maximizes user satisfaction taking into consideration a variety of time and spatial constraints for both users and POIs. Additionally, POIs are divided into categories, so that a certain number of POIs from each category to be included in the final itinerary. The application is implemented as a user-interactive system that allows the flexibility for easy content adaptation and facilitates management of content and services by the user. The prototype has been implemented for Android-based smartphones, on an open application environment, using standard communication protocols and open database technology. Currently, it is applied to the city of Agios Nikolaos in Crete, and is available for download from Google play.

Application of User Interface and User Experience for Smart Greenhouse Mobile Application Design

Smart greenhouses enable remote control and monitoring of the planting environment through a mobile application. However, existing mobile applications designed for smart greenhouses often suffer from unattractive user interfaces and limited features, reducing their effectiveness in monitoring and controlling greenhouse conditions. This study’s primary objective is to design a prototype mobile application for smart greenhouses by incorporating user interface and user experience (UI/UX) principles. The performance of the designed system is evaluated through the System Usability Scale (SUS) assessment. The study follows the design thinking principles, including empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping, and testing, to identify user problems, generate innovative ideas, and create a design prototype that aligns with user needs. The design prototype is developed using the Figma application. Results from performance testing involving 10 prospective application users indicate an outstanding usability score of 82.75, categorizing it as excellent. This outcome demonstrates the successful development of a smart greenhouse application prototype that, through thoughtful UI/UX design, offers an attractive interface and features that effectively address user requirements.

Introduction: Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy pose global health challenges. Maternal mortality rates in Panama due to preeclampsia and eclampsia have increased. A mobile application is introduced to monitor and control these disorders. Problem: Hypertensive disorders in pregnancy pose a risk to maternal health. Panama’s healthcare initiatives have shown progress, but there are still gaps in maternal care. Novel technologies may help address these gaps. Objective: The goal is to evaluate a prototype mobile app for managing hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. Research focuses on usability, including navigation, design-task correlation, acceptability, and user perspectives. Methodology: The Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM) guides the study through problem identification, motivation, and software artifact development. The evaluation involves 32 participants engaging in tasks and standardized questionnaires, including the System Usability Scale (SUS) and User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ). Tasks assess the app’s usability, while questionnaires provide comprehensive insights into user experiences. Results: Users generally have positive interactions and favorable perceptions. However, there are challenges with task completion, particularly with interface intuitiveness. Conclusion: The app for monitoring hypertensive disorders has shown positive user experiences and usability. However, there are challenges and user feedback that need to be addressed for refinement and effectiveness in supporting maternal health during pregnancy. Limitations: The study focuses only on the prototype evaluation phase and may need further iterations to address challenges. The participant pool’s limitations may impact generalizability. Ongoing improvements are crucial to meet evolving user needs and technological advancements. Originality: This article contributes originality by presenting a novel mobile application prototype for managing hypertensive disorders in pregnancy. The use of DSRM for development and comprehensive usability assessments with standardized tools adds to the originality, providing valuable insights for future advancements in maternal healthcare technology.

An edge-device-compatible algorithm for valvular heart diseases screening using phonocardiogram signals with a lightweight convolutional neural network and self-supervised learning

Background and objectivesDetection and classification of heart murmur using mobile-phone-collected sound is an emerging approach to the scale-up screening of valvular heart disease at a population level. Nonetheless, the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) methods for this type of mobile health (mHealth) application requires highly accurate and lightweight AI models that can be deployed in consumer-grade mobile devices. This study presents a lightweight deep learning model and a self-supervised learning (SSL) method to utilise unlabelled data to improve the accuracy of valvular heart disease classification using phonocardiogram data. MethodsThis study proposes a lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) that consists of ten times fewer parameters than other deep learning models to classify phonocardiogram data. SSL is applied to harness a large collection of unlabelled data as pre-training to enhance the accuracy and robustness of the model and reduce the number of epochs required to converge. A mobile application prototype that encapsulates the model is developed to perform in-device inference and fine-turning. ResultsThe proposed lightweight model achieves an average accuracy of 98.65% in 10-fold cross-validation. When coupled with SSL using unlabelled data, the pre-trained model can reach an average accuracy higher than 99.4% in 10-fold cross-validation. Furthermore, SSL-trained models have a 4–20% improvement in classification accuracy over non-SSL-trained models when tested with perturbed or noisy data, suggesting that SSL improves robustness of the model. When deployed on common smartphones, in-device fine-tuning and inference of the model can be completed within 0.03–0.37 s, which is considerably faster than 0.22–5.7 s by a standard CNN model that have ten times the number of parameters. Our lightweight model also consumes only a third of the power compared to the larger standard model. ConclusionThis work presents a lightweight and accurate phonocardiogram classifier that supports near real-time performance on standard mobile devices.

Pembangunan Prototaip Aplikasi Mudah Alih untuk Kerja Pemeriksaan Bangunan

Building surveyors traditionally relied on descriptive longhand surveys to record an information by hand during on-site building inspections. However, the traditional approach such as checklist that usually practiced were unstructured and unstandardized among organization. In certain cases, it might have a missing document and issue on time-consuming for analysis. Therefore, this mobile application prototype purposely built to track the building defects where it can be used on site during building inspection. This is to record the information according to 11 evaluation criteria namely defect classification, type of building, type of location, type of element, sub-element, causes of defects, defects categories, defect groups, type of defects, building condition level and priority level of repairs. Besides that, the pictures or images can also be kept as supporting evidence. This mobile application prototype included three development phases which are design and utilization, system installation and maintenance and implementation. This mobile application has been projected to be used with mobile devices such as tablets or smartphones. It can also be accessed either through Play Store (for Android User) or the App Store (for Apple’s iOS user). This mobile application also provides a convenient and alternative method in recording the real time findings instead of using manual checklist. Finally, it has the potential to be developed and commercialized with the addition of more user-friendly features.

Application to prevent pressure injury in elderly caregivers

Objective To develop and validate the content of a mobile application prototype on Pressure Injury (PI) Prevention for elderly caregivers. Methods Methodological study of prototype-type technological production in mobile application. The application development was guided by the Contextualized Instructional Design (CID) model. The content validation stage was carried out by seven teaching nurses of a technical course for elderly caregivers in a federal educational institution with the application of the Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) instrument. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results The prototype, which was named LPPrev, contains information about the concept, staging, causes of LP, and main affecting sites, in addition to reminders to reposition the elderly in bed; registration of nutritional information, oral hydration, body and intimate hygiene, and guidance on preventive care is also possible. The content evaluation obtained 96.6% of agreement between professors, being considered a material of superior quality. Conclusion LPPrev is an application prototype properly structured according to the categories evaluated by the SAM, with relevant information for caregivers of bedridden and dependent elderly, contributing to theoretical knowledge and fundamental care in the prevention of injury by pressure, being prepared to move on to the other stages of the DIC model.

Challenges for implementing design thinking for social innovation: Case study during online learning

Students can play a meaningful role in solving developmental challenges. Through online learning, Third-year Information Systems students were taught Stanford’s five-phase design thinking (empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test). The process helps students develop solutions to assist with the South African electricity crisis. The case study identified the challenges of implementing design thinking to build mobile application prototypes to assist with Sustainable Development Goal 7: affordable and clean energy challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. The case study used mixed methods. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected from 28 Information Systems students using an online survey. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Qualitative data were analysed using content analysis. During the empathise phase, challenges were due to a lack of meaningful communication: 57% of students indicated that defining the problem was a challenge. During the ideate phase, 68% of the students stated that they struggled to create a solution. Students were required to use the Justinmind tool to develop their prototypes. However, 91% of students indicated that they struggled using Justinmind. During the final testing phase, 49% of students indicated that obtaining and incorporating user feedback was problematic. The research will provide insights and recommendations for improving the use of design thinking for social innovation during online learning.

Cognitive digital twins for freight parking management in last mile delivery under smart cities paradigm

This paper examines the Freight Parking Management Problem (FPMP) of last-mile delivery within the context of Smart Cities where objects are managed by Digital Twins. Specifically, we investigate how Cognitive Digital Twins - Digital Twins with augmented semantic capabilities - can enhance instantly updated knowledge of parking connectivity to optimize logistics operations planning and urban resource allocation. We present a four-layer architectural framework to integrate individual logistics objects and systems into Smart Cities at a semantic level, with underlying enabling technologies and standards including Property Graph, Web Ontology Language (OWL), and Web of Things. Next, we conduct a case study of parcel delivery in Paris using a real-life Digital Twins platform called Thing in the future (Thing’in) by Orange France, coupled with an agent-based simulation model on AnyLogic, to demonstrate a real-world application of our approach. The results suggest that semantics-enabled Digital Twins connectivity can increase the comprehensive understanding of the delivery environment and enhance cooperation between heterogeneous systems, ultimately resulting in improved logistics efficiency, reduced negative externalities, and better utilization of resources. Furthermore, this work showcases potential new business services for logistics service providers and provides managerial insights for city planners and municipal policymakers. An actual mobile application prototype is presented to showcase the applicability of the work.

Evaluation of a Prototype Mobile Application Based on an Expert System for the Diagnosis of Diseases Transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti Mosquito

The Aedes aegypti mosquito transmits the dengue, zika, and chikungunya viruses, endangering the health and lives of people in affected countries due to a lack of timely diagnosis. The objective of this study is to design and evaluate the feasibility of a mobile application based on an expert system for early diagnosis of diseases transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. The Buchanan methodology was used to develop the application. The results obtained show that the proposed mobile application has a diagnostic accuracy of 83%, a sensitivity of 91%, a specificity of 63%, and an error rate of 17%. The technical aspects of the application were also evaluated through a questionnaire administered to five computer experts. The results showed that the technical aspects of the application received an average rating of 3.91 out of a maximum of 5, with a standard deviation of 0.482. In addition, the usability of the application was evaluated using the standardized System Usability Scale (SUS), which was administered to a total of 15 users. The results of this evaluation showed that the application received an average score of 83 on the SUS scale, indicating a positive level of usability. In conclusion, the results support the effectiveness and potential of the application for the early diagnosis of diseases transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, providing a useful tool for the rapid detection of these diseases. Although it requires more attention to specificity and error rate to improve the accuracy of the diagnosis.

Aawn: An Interactive Mobile Application for Improving the Communication Skills of Arab Children with Autism

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that causes challenges in communication and social interaction. Since there is no single treatment for autism, autistic children need extra attention from their parents or caregivers to overcome their linguistic deficiency. Scientific studies have shown that technology-based educational methods are effective and can lead to a significant improvement, especially for autistic children. In recent years, an increasing number of mobile and multimedia applications have been developed to enhance autistic children's verbal communication, emotions, social behavior, and interaction skills. However, many of these systems are either in English or in local autistic children’s native languages. Others are designed to promote specific knowledge, i.e., emotions, or are limited in their features. This paper designs and implements a prototype for Arabic mobile application, called Aawn, to help and improve Arab autistic children's, in their own language, communication and emotions, as well as educational and organizational skills. Aawn is integrated with various supporting technologies based on the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and augmented with graphical features. The system is built and developed using Android Studio and various cloud-based tools. The system can be extended by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Developmental Study on "Smart Silver Care": A Mobile Application to Alleviate Loneliness in Older Adults within the Community.

Loneliness poses a significant threat to the quality of life of older adults. Therefore, it is essential to implement non-face-to-face services to solve the loneliness of older adults in the community. This study used the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model to develop mobile applications as a loneliness intervention for older adults living in the community. A mobile application was developed using the ADDIE model to alleviate loneliness in older adults living in the community. The development process included a systematic review, a face-to-face preference survey, and an experts' evaluation. From 11 to 15 June 2021, the following six databases were used to search for related articles: Ovid-Medline, Ovid-EMBASE, Cochrane Library, KISS, Korea Med, RISS. A preference analysis was conducted on 100 adults aged 65 or older living in the community from 15 July to 31 August 2021. A mobile application for community-dwelling older adults was developed. Its contents included emotional support, cognition, physical activity, health data, nutrition, and motivation. They were organized through a systematic review and preference survey in the analysis stage. They were also designed as main menus and sub-content at the design stage. They also designed the structure, functionality, and interface layout. The application was developed by integrating the designed content and determining the operating system, language, access method, privacy, and server history. Then, experts evaluated the validity of the application. The prototype mobile application incorporates emotional support, cognition, physical activity, health data, nutrition, and motivation. It is expected to help older adults achieve their goals by promoting participation. By incorporating expert validity into the content development process of early prototypes, we have improved the usability and acceptability of our products. Future pilot trials are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of this mobile application among older adults.

A Mobile Application Prototype Designed to Support Physical Therapy Assessment Learning Processes

The present work is the result of applied research, which describes how the physical therapy program at the Universidad Santiago de Cali approached the support of the learning processes from the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice issued by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) from a teaching perspective using information technologies with an emphasis on mobile devices (D-Learning). The implementation process was conducted using the PSP (Personal Software Process) methodology, condensing its six characteristic moments to address the problem in four stages: planning, design, development, and validation, corresponding to phases 2 and 3 of the interdisciplinary project developed by and between the Schools of Engineering and Health Sciences, thereby understanding that the remaining phases exceed the scope of this paper (these phases include a systematic review, an analysis, and feedback from the academic community). A preliminary assessment describes the knowledge gathering and idea conception processes, as well as the solution design process in Enterprise Architect. Subsequently, the prototype was implemented, the corresponding documentation was prepared, and its usability was validated by the academic community at the university. Therefore, a supporting tool was generated, focusing specifically on learning about the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice.
