Inter-Vendor Intra-Operation in Smart Home using Wi-Fi for Capacious Control and Remote Operation

Abstract: Smart homes have been gaining a lot of momentum lately and people are rushing towards it, because of the ease of control, monitor and security that they offer. Although smart home installation has also become quite easier nowadays, but still pertains to be difficult choice to many, due to the exclusivity of the vendors or the inability of some vendors to support the Zigbee connection. Though Zigbee allows users to assemble their own choice of devices and consumption of low power, as long as the devices support Zigbee interface, but Zigbee still remains sort of unsafe and less capacious (expandable). Inter-vendor Intraoperability using Wi-Fi can provide easier installation and control options to the users and also increase the scalability of the smart homes, allowing the users themselves to choose from the devices that they want to install in their home, and providing them a common platform of control in form of a mobile application, from anywhere wherever the Wi-Fi or mobile internet provided. Also, the data transfer would be more secure and encrypted over Wi-Fi, faster and more expandable, even across the countries. In the project, we explore the interconnection of smart home devices from various vendor together with a Zigbee Bluetooth interface with a mobile application for control, enabling the smart homes more accessible by cost cutting.

Mobile application for control and management of citizen security

<span lang="EN-US">Currently, Peru is one of the countries with the highest levels of citizen insecurity in Latin America, and its capital is considered the thirtieth most populated city in the world, thus being one of its territories with the highest percentage of citizen insecurity, providing a poor quality of life to its citizens as they feel unsafe when passing through different places and being victims of any criminal act. Therefore, this research work is developed to support this problem through the implementation of a mobile application that manages and controls citizen insecurity. Applying the research method based on design and scrum methodology, which together generate greater control over changes during project development. In addition, resources and the support of different tools were used for its study and execution, such as marvelApp for the design and prototyping of the mobile application and android studio. Obtaining highly viable results for the support of citizen security through a suitable and fully viable mobile application.</span>

Evaluating foam stability using tailored water chemistry for gas mobility control applications

Generating in-situ foam is regarded as one of the most promising techniques to overcome gas mobility issues and improve sweep efficiency in both miscible and immiscible gas injection enhanced oil recovery (EOR) processes. Gravity override, viscous fingering and channeling through permeable zones are the major limiting factors that can impair the efficiency of gas floods, mainly due to low density and viscosity of the gas relative to reservoir fluids. Generating strong and stable foam while injecting gas is one way to achieve in-depth conformance improvement in the reservoir.In this study, a tailored water chemistry (formulated low salinity water) has been evaluated in comparison to using typical high salinity injection water (i.e. seawater) and deionized water in surfactant solutions to determine its overall effect on the produced foam. Using bulk foam tests, foam rheology apparatus and microfluidics device, the foam stabilization factors were analyzed and quantified by measuring the foam-life over time of different surfactants in varying salinity water solutions. In addition, the foam rheological properties were measured under high pressure. The microfluidics device was also used to examine the generated foam strength in porous media.The results from laboratory experiments clearly demonstrated that the use of tailored water chemistry can improve the stability of produced foam when compared to both high salinity water and deionized water. Low salinity tailored water chemistry solutions resulted in a longer lasting foam, by almost 1.8–3.0 times depending on the surfactant type. The foam rheology results showed that the produced foams with the tailored low salinity water are of higher apparent viscosity when compared to those obtained with deionized water. Both longer foam-life and higher apparent viscosity are indicative of better, stronger and more stable foam. The higher resistance to gas flow was observed in porous media with foams generated using the low salinity tailored water chemistry solutions when compared to those foams obtained with deionized water and high salinity water.This experimental study, for the first time, demonstrated substantial improvements in the foam stability by using a tailored water chemistry aqueous solution. Such huge foam stabilization improvements obtained with tailored water chemistry has the promising potential to increase the apparent viscosity of injected gas and subsequently more effectively mitigate gas mobility issues encountered in EOR applications.

Gas/water foams stabilized with a newly developed anionic surfactant for gas mobility control applications

Carbon dioxide (CO2) flooding is one of the most globally used EOR processes to enhance oil recovery. However, the low gas viscosity and density result in gas channeling and gravity override which lead to poor sweep efficiency. Foam application for mobility control is a promising technology to increase the gas viscosity, lower the mobility and improve the sweep efficiency in the reservoir. Foam is generated in the reservoir by co-injection of surfactant solutions and gas. Although there are many surfactants that can be used for such purpose, their performance with supercritical CO2 (ScCO2) is weak causing poor or loss of mobility control. This experimental study evaluates a newly developed surfactant (CNF) that was introduced for ScCO2 mobility control in comparison with a common foaming agent, anionic alpha olefin sulfonate (AOS) surfactant. Experimental work was divided into three stages: foam static tests, interfacial tension measurements, and foam dynamic tests. Both surfactants were investigated at different conditions. In general, results show that both surfactants are good foaming agents to reduce the mobility of ScCO2 with better performance of CNF surfactant. Shaking tests in the presence of crude oil show that the foam life for CNF extends to more than 24 h but less than that for AOS. Moreover, CNF features lower critical micelle concentration (CMC), higher adsorption, and smaller area/molecule at the liquid–air interface. Furthermore, entering, spreading, and bridging coefficients indicate that CNF surfactant produces very stable foam with light crude oil in both deionized and saline water, whereas AOS was stable only in deionized water. At all conditions for mobility reduction evaluation, CNF exhibits stronger flow resistance, higher foam viscosity, and higher mobility reduction factor than that of AOS surfactant. In addition, CNF and ScCO2 simultaneous injection produced 8.83% higher oil recovery than that of the baseline experiment and 7.87% higher than that of AOS. Pressure drop profiles for foam flooding using CNF was slightly higher than that of AOS indicating that CNF is better in terms of foam–oil tolerance which resulted in higher oil recovery.

Los avances en las TICS han generado muchos campos de acción nuevos, como el caso de la Domótica y la Inmótica, que surgen como solución para la automatización de hogares, edificios y oficinas. Con los propósitos de control, confort, reducción de energía eléctrica, y por ende, colaborar con el medio ambiente; en este sentido, la elaboración de un prototipo de control inmótico en las oficinas de UNIANDES Quevedo, colabora con estos nuevos escenarios y desafíos tecnológicos, en búsqueda de nuevas soluciones sustentables y amigables con el medio ambiente. En la construcción de este prototipo se utilizaron dispositivos electrónicos con bajos costos y se elaboró una aplicación móvil para el control vía celular.

The Effect of Health Education and Mobile Control Application Program on Anemia among Pregnant Women

Background: anemia is one of the most widespread nutritional deficiency diseases. An intervention is needed to improve Hb among pregnant women in order to avoid maternal and perinatal complication and deaths. The use of mobile control application has improved the compliance of ferrum tablet consumption. This study aimed to assess the effect of health education and mobile application control on anemia among pregnant women.Methodology: The design of t he res earc h is quasy experimental. The study was conducted in Banten from September to December 2017. Multistage cluster sampling technique was used in this research. The samples were divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group consists of health education using a module and the mobile application program. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Wilcoxon sign rank test and independent t-test were used with alpha .05.Results: There was a significant difference of pregnant women’s knowledge (z= -7.187, p= .005), pregnant women’s perception (z= -7.054, p= .005), and pregnant women attitude before and after intervention (z= -6.35, p= .005). There was a significant difference of family knowledge (z= -6.53, p= .005), family attitude (z= -4.56, p= .005), and family support before and after intervention (z= -7.08, p= .005). There was a difference of Hb mean between experiment and control group after the intervention (t= 7.12, p= .005).Conclusions: health education and mobile control application program has a positive effect on anemia among pregnant women. An advocacy is required at governmental level after developing a frame of reference for understanding anemia in pregnancy.

FILTERAPP: An Android-Based Profanity Control Application Using WU-Manber Algorithm with Fault-Tolerant Searching Capability

This study utilized a multi-pattern string matching algorithm to develop an effective android-based mobile profanity control application for children. Initially, three (3) algorithms were subjected to an experiment using a simulation program to determine which algorithm has the highest accuracy rate particularly in providing a fault-tolerant search result. To analyze the performance of each algorithm, pre-defined datasets were used in the experiment for comparative analysis. Three measures were used: Precision, Recall and F-Measure. Based on the conducted experiment, Wu-Manber algorithm has the highest accuracy rate against Aho-Corasick and Set-Horspool algorithms.

Use of a novel pH-triggered polymer-gel system for optimal mobility-control applications

AbstractThere are two challenges in using polymers for conformance control applications in the petroleum industry. The first difficulty is to maintain a good injectivity to overcome the large pressure drop caused by the high viscosity of the polymers. Secondly, large polymer volumes required to be injected to compensate for polymer retention in a reservoir. The main objective of this work is to study the viability of using a pH-sensitive polyelectrolyte to alleviate the above two challenges. The results showed that the pH of the swelling medium has great effect on the swelling behavior of poly(acrylic acid) hydrogels. At low pH regime, the viscosity increases gradually as pH increases until certain pH value, ‘critical pH’ is reached. In the second regime and once critical pH value is exceeded, the viscosity increases sharply with the pH. This is followed by independency of the viscosity on pH, in the third regime. It was found that this sensitivity to the pH varies with the change in crosslink density and shear rates. At pH=4 (before the gellation), the sample (Carbopol 981) which has the lowest crosslink density exhibits the highest viscosity among the three samples. After the gellation (PH=8), the rheological behavior is reversed for the highest crosslinked density polymer (EZ-4) and the lowest crosslinked density polymer (981) which contradicts with the well known swelling ratio-crosslink density relation. It is concluded that the examined polymers are good candidates for mobility control applications. They can also be used for temporary zonal isolation since they can be easily broken down with mild acid wash and flowback

Technology Focus: EOR Performance and Modeling (January 2011)

Technology Focus SPE hosted two enhanced-oil-recovery (EOR) conferences in 2010: One was the 2010 SPE Improved Oil Recovery Symposium in Tulsa and the other was the 2010 SPE EOR Conference at Oil & Gas West Asia, Muscat, Oman. Many other SPE conferences had sessions on EOR technologies. Therefore, it is not surprising that more than 350 papers were presented on the topic in the past year. These papers covered past field-application experiences and accomplishments, current strides, and future directions. As in previous years, when I selected papers to highlight EOR this year, I classified the papers into the categories of gas injection, chemical methods, thermal methods, conformance control, microbial EOR, carbonate-reservoir EOR, reservoir-problem-identification technologies, and novel EOR methods such as low-salinity waterflooding and nanoparticles for EOR. However, it was still quite difficult to select only four to highlight from so many outstanding papers. In the past few EOR features, I highlighted chemical methods, CO2 EOR and sequestration, low-salinity waterflooding, particle gel for conformance control, wettability alteration, and methods to identify reservoir channels. Even though those topics are still quite important and many new ideas and information were presented this year, I decided to give preference to topics not highlighted before and to papers that comprehensively summarize field experiences. Overall, the leading-edge EOR technologies presented in SPE meetings this past year will be applied increasingly on a global scale and will increase the oil recovery of mature oil fields significantly as the technologies mature. Wireless Sensor/Actuator Network Design for Mobile Control Applications.

Wireless sensor/actuator networks (WSANs) are emerging as a new generationof sensor networks. Serving as the backbone of control applications, WSANs will enablean unprecedented degree of distributed and mobile control. However, the unreliability ofwireless communications and the real-time requirements of control applications raise greatchallenges for WSAN design. With emphasis on the reliability issue, this paper presents anapplication-level design methodology for WSANs in mobile control applications. Thesolution is generic in that it is independent of the underlying platforms, environment,control system models, and controller design. To capture the link quality characteristics interms of packet loss rate, experiments are conducted on a real WSAN system. From theexperimental observations, a simple yet efficient method is proposed to deal withunpredictable packet loss on actuator nodes. Trace-based simulations give promisingresults, which demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Filtration of Polymer Solutions

Introduction Biopolymers (polysaccharides) have attracted considerable interest in mobility-control applications because of their low adsorption and shear stability characteristics. However, to prevent plugging at the wellbore, the biopolymer solutions must be conditioned. Filtration is one method of conditioning. Plugging is thought to be caused by gels or clumps of incompletely solubilized polymer, or residual proteinaceous material from the polymer, or residual proteinaceous material from the fermentation process. DE Filter Evaluations Before beginning a proposed field test involving both polymer and caustic-polymer solutions, several types of polymer and caustic-polymer solutions, several types of filters were evaluated for their applicability. The goal of the test was to achieve a submicron filtration. A technique using "millipore" filters as an analog of reservoir rock was adopted as a convenient means of obtaining a qualitative indication of solution injectivity. The method involved measuring the cumulative volume of fluid passed through a millipore filter at a constant differential pressure (5 psig) and plotting this value as a function of time. The plugging tendency of the fluid is inversely related to the volume of fluid that flows through the filter in a given time. Fluid conditioning with diatomaceous earth (DE) filters resulted in the best injectivity improvement of the polymer solutions. The studies with DE filtration involved polymer solutions. The studies with DE filtration involved systems with filter areas ranging from millipore filter holders of 0.01 sq ft to a 50-sq ft vertical leaf filter. Most of the work was conducted with a 0.65-sq ft vertical leaf unit. Most solutions evaluated had a concentration of 500-ppm polymer. The brine concentration was 4,000 ppm total dissolved solids. Unless otherwise stated, the filter operating conditions werea precoat loading of 0.1 lb of DE/sq ft of filtering area,a body-feed rate of 200 ppm,a filtration flux rate of 0.25 gal/min/sq ft,filtration at ambient temperature, andthe same DE used for both the precoat and the body feed. The initial attempt at DE conditioning of a polymer solution used a 50-sq ft filter. The goal for this particular test was to obtain as fine a filtration as possible without any significant loss in fluid viscosity. A precoat with a water permeability of 0.1 darcy, capable of removing particle as small as 0.1u, was used, A "crystal clear" particle as small as 0.1u, was used, A "crystal clear" filtrate was obtained from the hazy, untreated, polymer solution. This test pointed out some problems that might be experienced in the field. The very fine 0.1-darcy DE filter would not adequately bridge upon most porous supports. Also, excessively short cycle times would be encountered. The short cycle time raised the question of whether it was necessary to obtain the crystal clear filtrate. A review of the proposed polymer injection program resulted in the establishment of less stringent filtration limitations. In particular, we noticed that samples of polymer feed passed through 0.8 millipore filters were polymer feed passed through 0.8 millipore filters were still hazy. That is, solutions that satisfied the criterion of a submicron filtration were not crystal clear.
